I managed to write a little bit of dialogue, hopefully I'll have time later on to work on it some more.
@imagine-darksiders @apocalypsesurvivors
The hulking Maker outstretched his hand and assisted Simone down the steps towards the forge. Ever since she returned from her absence, he noticed that the witch had become much more alert and, dare he say, tired?
Of course, it was a bit improper to call a lady tired to her face, especially so soon after having a new baby.
"How are you fairing, dear?" Ulthane asked once he was sure she didn't need a hand anymore.
"We're both doing well, just a little tired is all."
Simone sat herself at a bench nearby and cradled her infant daughter, whom she affectionately named Monika; she was wrapped in a blanket and held close to her mother's chest.
It made the Makers there both worried and filled with joy to have such a wonderful, healthy child being brought up, on spite of the current situation. It was quite fascinating how life persisted; how humanity persisted, even during the end of days. Ulthane felt extremely lucky to have them both alive and well. He was lucky enough to have as many humans surviving as he did.
"Ya know," Ulthane started, trudging back to the forge and heaving his enormous hammer onto his shoulder. "You gave us all quiet a fright when you decided to wander off on your own. Many o' the wee ones assumed you were dead, or worse-"
Simone laughed at him. "My dearest friend, what could be worse than death in this situation?"
"Oh, I dunno. Perhaps the thought of you abandoning your fellow man. I was sure you had just run off for some other reason, something witchy, I'm sure."
The witch's face softened. Dark circles hung under her eyes. Monika started to coo. "Ulthane, I know I was a bit out of line just up and running away that night, and I did apologize, but I just really needed to be alone. I wish I could explain it to you in a way you'll understand, but I don't really understand it myself. I knew it was going to be hard, but I had to go. I just had to."
Ulthane understood that sentiment enough. Humans have to follow their instincts, after all. Besides, he didn't really know anything about childbearing and whatnot, but still worried when the humans he looked after took to the wind.
"Welk, we're all glad to finally have you back, love. You and the little one."
"Thank you, Ulthane. I'm glad to be back. I just wish I could get some more rest-"
A commotion outside of the tree caught the attention of both Maker and mother, and they both about ran to the tree's entrance, peering out towards the source of the sounds.
About a half a kilometer away stood Weasel, Hex, and Umaru, along with three other figures and what could only be a wicked slouching before them. The sight sent shockwaves of regret and horror throughout the witch's entity. She recognized the dress that particular wicked was wearing.
"Ellie? Oh no..."

Survivors Blog
I HAVE TAKEN ON A TASK.
We need somewhere to collect all the Apocalypse Survivors (if only so new folks can learn everyone’s names n_n’) so I started up a side blog that’s just going to reblog everything about them that I can find. Asks and submissions are open for anyone who wants to add to the collection!
Since it seems like there’s a lot out there, I’m not going to post anything directly. It’s all going into the queue, which is currently set to 10 posts/day so it doesn’t get too annoying.
I’m trying to tag everyone who appears in a post, but that’s really hard when I don’t know who is who! So. There’s a #{name}? when I think I know who that is but I’m not sure, and anything where I’ve failed to ID someone is also tagged #help. As you might guess, I’d like a hand getting those figured out. I’m also planning on having #characterInfo or something like that for introductory get-to-know-the-crew character sheet type posts.
The organization is probably going to be refined as this thing grows, but that’s about all for now. Go hit up @apocalypsesurvivors!

Lore Update
Looks like lots of us are giving updates on our survivors, so why not.
25 now.
Still broken up about losing first camp (blames self for it, since the demon was after them in particular). Also upset about Ellie’s death/undeath. Trying to hold together in front of everybody because allowing themselves to break down could lead to carelessness which could lead to more death.
Still afraid of unknown glowy things and dogs.
Learning to use their plants for medicine as well as food.
Unfortunately, narcolepsy meds don’t come from plants.
Totally knows something’s up with Jones. Not sure what’s going on (they’ve only been able to ‘feel’ things since the demon cave so they don’t really know how to interpret those feelings) but they’ll probably figure it out if they meet another Nephilim and get to compare. But as long as he continues to act friendly to humanity they’ll accept him. They won’t talk to the others about it except for Weasel though.
Doesn’t go out scavenging much anymore. They’ll go out to protect their friends or if they need something specific (or even to escape loud noises), but for the most part they feel like they’re more useful providing fresh produce for everybody. Never goes out alone and tries not to let others go out alone.
Still besties with Hex.
Was kind of scared of Weasel at first but now considers them a younger sibling. Very worried about them.
Friends with Simone. Tea parties.
(And uh… sorry but I don’t really know the rest of you... I’m just going to assume they get along well with most of camp.)
Helps Hex give fighting lessons.
Doesn’t teeechnically qualify as stimming, but they like being squeezed. If they really need a hug but nobody’s around/huggy they wrap themselves in vines.
Lives in a little treehouse on the garden branch in Haven. Gets there by lift courtesy of Ulthane. Visitors welcome but they spend a lot of time downstairs with the others, too.
Will use magic to make small bedrooms in the tree walls if asked. You’ll have to find/make your own door though.

Lore’s First Excursion
@heavymetalhexcode
Warning: Mild violence, not really explicitly described, no friendly deaths
Lore sat against a tree they had accidentally revived in the camp, fingers buried in the dirt. Hex had just short of ordered them to stay in the camp, to not leave under any but the worst circumstances, until they had recovered sufficiently from their ordeal in the demon’s cave. Although they agreed with his assessment… cabin fever sucked. They were itching to explore, even just a little. Besides, they should pull their weight in this camp where the residents had rescued, adopted, and cared for them.
But you are, a tiny voice reminded them from the depths of their mind. You’ve practically become some kind of forest spirit. You’re learning to grow food right here in camp!
Yeah, well. They still wanted to explore. They felt a lot better now, anyway. They had recovered a fair amount of their muscle mass, and the constant tiredness felt no worse than the effects of their typical narcolepsy. They’d dealt with the narcolepsy all this time; they would be fine now. Lore hoped they’d be able to convince him to go out on a run with them soon. Perhaps next time they spoke?
But for now, they buried their fingers in the dirt.
They searched, deeper and deeper, for the slightest sign of something edible, any root or seed they might be able to revive and spare some of their precious seeds. There: a dandelion.
A smile stretched across Lore’s face as they pulled on the roots, coaxing it to grow towards the sun. Once these cheerful yellow flowers had been largely hated, an invasive weed. But now that was a good thing. An edible--and medicinal!-- plant, potentially capable of spreading everywhere with little help? If only there were pollinators… what Lore wouldn’t give for a beekeeper and their hives right now…
Some time later Hex found them still sitting there, a big stupid grin on their face as they played with the weed.
“Hey,” he greeted. “Nice dandelion.”
“They’re edible, and they might come in handy. I didn’t even need to bring my own seeds,” Lore told him in a dreamy voice.
“Yeah, I know they are. Speaking of food… Have you eaten in the last couple hours?”
They gave him a sheepish grin. “Maybe… not.”
He rolled his eyes with a derisive snort. “Thought not. Better eat this before Simone gets wind of it.” He tossed a packaged beef jerky in their direction before kneeling to examine the flower.
“Thanks, Hex.” Lore wrinkled their nose for a moment, missing their dad’s home cooked beef jerky… a superior jerky by far. Now, though, nobody could afford to be too picky. Quickly tearing the package open, they snarfed it down.
“Seriously though… you learn to survive in this world, but you still don’t learn to feed yourself?” their friend berated.
Lore sighed. “I mean there is that… but also… asking to use your bed is one thing. You get it back in a few hours, none the worse for wear… at least as long as I don’t panic. Sorry about that. But food? Water? They’re precious commodities, Hex. I just… I feel wrong asking for them!”
Hex dropped the attitude and took a serious tone. “Lore. You need to eat, and you need water even more. Besides, you never did eat enough. If you, of all people, feel hungry? Say something. Seriously. Nobody is going to be mad at you for it. Simone will get mad if you don’t. And for that matter? So will I. Got that?”
Lore bowed their head in submission. “Yeah. Got it. Sorry.”
He rolled his eyes again and made to get up, but Lore stopped him.
“Hex, I was wondering… could we maybe go out for a bit? Explore, maybe scavenge some stuff?”
The former programmer stopped, casting an appraising eye up and down his friend. “How are you feeling?” he finally asked. “Are you sure you’re strong enough? If you go out there prematurely… you’re not just a danger to yourself. You’re a danger to anyone around you. And don’t think for a second I won’t tie you to your tree if you even think of going out there by yourself!”
They gave a weak laugh. “Oh, I believe you. Don’t worry -- I’m a strong believer in the buddy system! I was both a girl scout and a boy scout, remember? Really though… I feel a lot stronger, and the narcolepsy isn’t going away no matter what. I feel it less when I’m out and about anyway. Please?”
After a long and searching look, Hex finally nodded. “Yeah. Okay, sure. I have some time. Go get ready. Meet me back here in ten.”
Smiling broadly and suppressing a whoop of elation, Lore shot to their feet and ran to get their mask.
Hex took Lore to one of the safest locations he knew of outside the camp. Gleefully, they raided abandoned stores in what used to be a mall, replacing what they could of Lore’s lost belongings and shoving their spoils into a backpack they had found. Just as they thought to return, though, an unmistakable noise met their ears:
Something carnivorous had found a meal.
Deciding to check it out and make sure it was alone and see which of their escape routes were safe to use, the pair crept over to the short wall around the hole in the second floor to peer down to the first floor.
They saw a minor demon, spine hunched and walking on all fours, devouring a long dead shopper in the hall below. It had wicked claws, but no wings or tail, and its horns were curved back and around so that they made a lousy weapon.
Lore knew this kind. They were territorial loners. Those horns were like sheep’s: mostly used for displays of dominance in territory disputes. And… if cooked correctly, they made good eating. Quietly, they began creeping towards a broken down escalator. It would allow them to get to the demon’s level without being spotted.
A hand on their arm drew them up short. What the h*** are you doing? Hex mouthed, an expression of alarm on his face.
Lore grinned and leaned in close so they could breathe a whisper into his ear, lisping so that the harsher ‘s’ sounds wouldn’t carry. “Those taste good. Now teamwork: do you want to distract it, or kill it?”
“Neither!!!”
Lore just shrugged. “Okay. Wait here until I’m done, then. Watch for my signal.” With that, they drew back and returned to creeping.
Hex stared after them in stunned disbelief. How could this be the same person as his ridiculous, timid, squeamish friend from uni? It almost seemed as if they had cut off many of their defining weaknesses -- and maybe even some strengths -- with their long hair. Regardless... there was no way he’d let them face a demon on their own, and it seemed like they weren’t about to be talked out of it. He reached out and grabbed their ankle to stop them, then crawled up to whisper again.
“Fine. I’ll kill it.” If they were doing this, he was going to do the fighting and the sneaking. He was not exactly sure of what Lore was capable of yet, so he didn’t want to leave them that job. He dearly hoped he wasn’t going to regret this…
Their mouth widened in a predatory grin. “What’s the plan?”
Unhappily, Hex helped them plan to do one of the stupidest things he thought he had ever done.
“Hey! Ugly!”
The demon looked up as a masked figure in a red coat yelled as it brandished a sword and shield at it. The creature growled, turning to protect its meal… and possibly enlarge it.
Lore could see, from the corner of their eye, as Hex ducked behind what remained of a large planter. They did not look at him, though, not wanting to give his position away. Baiting the monstrosity, the fighter nicked at it with their saber as they turned, luring it towards Hex.
It worked. As Lore annoyed and harried it with their blade, dodging and using their shield to block attacks, the demon followed them past the planter. They kept their focus on the monster before them, not looking as Hex silently crept up to it and swiftly sent his katana through the connection between its skull and its spine.
The humans backed away as it thrashed, waiting for it to be truly dead. Just in case, Lore beheaded it with a fire emergency hatchet they had found, then grinned through the mesh of their mask up at Hex. “The hindquarters have particularly good meat, and if you baste it in the juices from its guts it neutralizes the toxins in the rest of it,” they informed him gleefully. “Now let’s drag it back!”
Now that they could both speak freely, Hex finally let out something he had been wanting to say this whole time.
“Sh**, Lore, what the H***?!”

Lore Origin Story
So I can’t afford the games right now or a decent computer to play them on, so forgive me for not really knowing much about the Darksiders universe. But with encouragement from @heavymetalhexcode, @ohmygillygoshoppler, and @conflictedrider, I made a survivor anyway. (Been wanting to do it for months tbh.) I’ll put up a picture... eventually.
Anyway here goes!
I probably shouldn’t have survived the apocalypse at all. It was just dumb luck that it happened during training. And that nothing too big came after us.
I was with the regiment. We went to various historical festivals guarding the royal actors and giving fighting lessons to anyone who would pay a small fee for them. Though our main function was for show… we weren’t.
It happens sometimes. People go to the festival and think they’re in a video game they can touch. They’ll do stupid things, like try to assassinate the king and queen. It was our job to stop them, and we did.
And our weapons were real.
Thanks to that, when the apocalypse happened, we already had weapons in hand: swords, maces, pikes, bucklers… the lesser demons that appeared didn’t stand a chance.
Being one of the newer recruits, the captain shoved me and a few others to the middle. We suffered casualties that day. And once the fighting was over, we mourned them. But we survived. And we kept going.
My phone was crushed in the fight. I had no way of knowing if any of my family and friends were out there still… but I wouldn’t count on it. I threw myself into my new family, and we trained harder than ever before. Though I still favored the saber, I grew proficient in our other weapons: buckler and kite shields, shortbow, rondels, maces, greatswords… Physically I was in better shape than I ever had been. All of us were. We had to be to survive.
We raided a few abandoned stores. We grabbed bags and supplies, food, everything we could think of. I filled a small pouch with as many seed packets as I could fit: a few flowers that I’d heard were edible or medicinal, but mostly vegetables and fruits. When we ate fruits, I tried to save the seeds instead of throwing them out. I didn’t know if they’d ever come in useful, but on the off chance we ever found a safe place to settle down… I wanted us to have food.
I don’t know how long we roved. I stopped wearing my typical fashion disaster mish mosh of clothing in favor of sturdy pants, utility belts, and a gambeson, along with what armor I received when we divvied up our supplies. I cut my hair short, too; as much as I’d loved my dark strawberry blonde curls, they were in the way now.
Then one day, as the color sergeant, humoring my strange habit of collecting seeds, handed me a seed left over from a pear, I fumbled and dropped it. To our surprise, within moments, there was a tiny sprout where it fell.
We quickly surmised that somehow, in the craziness that had upended our lives, I had developed a spark of magic. It was fairly limited; all I could do was grow plants and get an idea of whether they were edible or not. But limited didn’t mean it wasn’t useful. Things were finally looking up: if we could just find a place to hunker down, as long as it had water and soil, we could make things work. We could survive.
But then disaster struck.
I’m not sure how the demon knew what I could do. I’m not even sure how many -- if any -- of my regiment survived the encounter. I’d like to think that most of them did, but I know that’s just wishful thinking. “Who are you? What do you want with me?” I shouted as it hauled me back to its lair.
“Who am I?” It chuckled. “That’s beyond your tiny mortal understanding. What do I want with you, however…” I shuddered as a claw stroked my cheek. “I want your soul. Souls with magic are the tastiest, you know. But you… you’re still weak. I will strengthen you. And when your magic strains at the very seams of your being… then, I will feast.”
I fell silent, horrified. What could I even say to that?
The abomination dragged me to a remote cave in the ashen remains of a dead forest. Light streaming from a smallish hole in the roof showed me it had obviously lived here for some time now. Crates and piles full of supplies were scattered around, and… corpses. Only a few, mercifully. But I guessed I was about to meet their fate myself.
The demon shoved me down against the wall, next to the only corpse not in the pile. Pinned down by its foot, I could only watch, sickened, as it unlocked the chains from the dead body and locked them around my own wrists and ankles. I would be able to move, but it looked like I would never go more than six feet away from this wall again.
Finally the terrible weight on my chest lifted. I gasped air in relief, gagging slightly at the smell of decay, as the demon tossed the corpse beside me across the cave into the pile. It then took my weapons and armor, stowing them into crates of similar items. Then it returned with an object inside of a lantern. It glowed bluish white, so bright I could not begin to distinguish its shape.
“Don’t worry,” the monster assured me, laughing darkly at my discomfort. “I won’t taint your soul;  I stole this from an angel. My tastes run more… innocent than some of my family. Now gaze into it. Let its power encourage yours to grow…”
I wanted to look away, but I found I could not. That light was comforting, somehow. I guessed that kind of made sense if it belonged to an angel. After a few minutes the demon closed the lantern’s shutters, and I dimly heard myself let out a despairing cry as the comforting light gave way to darkness.
“Not to worry, little one,” the demon said, laying water and dismal rations at my feet. “Mortals like you can’t look into that for too long, but I’ll let you see it every day... until you’re ready for harvesting.” With that, it left, and I was alone in the semidarkness with a bunch of corpses.
I spent days in that cave. The demon made sure I had food and water, at least enough to stay alive. The shackles that bound my hands and feet left sore, chafed bands around my wrists and ankles. I tried everything I could think of to get free, but disarmed as I was, I could do nothing. I both yearned for and dreaded the light from the lantern. It was the only comfort I could find in this horrid situation, and yet… I knew that every day that I looked into its glow, I drew a day closer to having my soul eaten.
I did the only thing that was left to me: I prayed.
