Top 10 isekai?
okay since nobody ever sets the parameters for what sort of top 10 theyre looking for, im going to do it for you. in this list, we will be looking at emily's personal favorites, not any sort of objective criteria or anything else. this is just things i personally liked and thought were good. additionally, we will not be looking at any pseudo-isekai OR any legally-isekai (i.e., no shows that are by genre an isekai but no other world plot is involved (like danmachi), or shows that involve an other world plot but are not within the isekai genre (like the wizard of oz)). We will only be looking at True Isekais, shows which fit the isekai formula and also heavily involve characters from another world. This DOES include voluntary game isekais like bofuri and most of sword art online. and now, without further ado, i present to you emily's definitive top 10 isekai list, subject to change as more isekai come out!
10. GATE: Yes, i know this one is just JSDF propaganda and an excuse to beat off over modern military equipment, but i just really love to see rory mercury kill people and lick blood. its very easy to rewatch and in the isekai genre, theres much worse shit you could consume.
9. Overlord: overlord is the longest running show on this list by far, so quality is not always consistent. but i do enjoy that the plot is "japanese salaryman gets peer pressured into world domination by his friends' OCs". the show really shines when it steers away from him, though, because the characters in the world who aren't wildly overpowered are generally pretty good and interesting! even if shit gets pretty dark for them.
8. Fabiniku (Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated as a Total Fantasy Knockout): fabiniku is good. it's fun to watch that girl realise shes a girl, and its fun to watch that guy realise hes actually into her. i want a second season. the most valid het romance in anime.
7. Hamefura (My Next Life as a Villainess): catarina claes is the dumbest bisexual on earth. shes so fun. i wish the show let her kiss the girls instead of the boy and the egg. but its fine, i know in my heart the true endgame is the heroine.
6. Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear: This one is just really casual and really cute. a girl dressed as a bear fucks around in another world. theres not really anything more to say about it. shes a good girl and the show kind of refuses to sexualise her, which is nice.
5. Arifureta (From Commonplace to World's Strongest): this one is very much a guilty pleasure. its cringe as hell and edgy as hell and very unnecessarily horny but god do i love it. it doesnt try to lampshade the cringy aspects or tone them down, it just kinda owns them and thats very good for me. i love edgy cringy chuuni bullshit.
4. Reincarnated as a Sword: this is a show about the world's cutest baby catgirl who has violence and killing in her heart. the fight scenes are surprisingly well animated for isekai, my sweet daughter is a joy to watch, and its like. just a good show.
3. Virgin Road (Executioner and her Way of Life): this show has like. some of my absolute favorite dynamics on earth. menou's absolute dedication to her cause juxtaposed with her growing love of akari. momo's writhing hatred of the whole world and everyone in it held at bay by her love of menou. akari's desperation to die at the hands of her love despite her inability to do so. the warrior princess who just wants to fight. oh my god. genuinely one of the best casts ive ever seen. i love them all so much. Very yuri
2. Eminence in Shadow: okay so hear me out. this is one of the most wild shows ever released. absolutely DEDICATED to the bit. takes itself extremely seriously, to hilarious effect. forgot for about 8 episodes that it could sexualise the female characters and then remembered halfway through and overcompensated. the main character has NO interest in anything except for pretending to be Extremely Normie in public, and leading a double life as the most overpowered chuuni character ever created. they changed the name of a character in the last 30 seconds of the entire show and then the credits show her new name. its like. an absolutely wild ride and DEFINITELY not for everybody. but god what a show. weeb ass shit rating of 10/10/10. i loved it. cant wait for s2.
1. No Game No Life: frankly, another 10/10/10. no game no life is, in my opinion, the most perfectly executed version of the overpowered protagonist trope. the main characters say at almost every opportunity that they will not and cannot lose. but by god they are the most sad wet dog type characters on earth. you know in your heart that they'll win, sure, but the stakes and the tension and the characters' inability to be fucking normal keeps you wondering if they might actually lose after all. possibly my favorite thing, as ive talked about before on this blog, is the fact that like, the main character is super jaded and doesnt trust others, but he's possessed of an indomitable belief in humanity that i wish to god i could have. and thats like, such a pervasive theme of the show, is the potential of humanity. i really appreciate that. anyway, this was fuckin, 2013 or something, so be warned that there's some uncomfortable sexualisation of a young girl. but if that doesnt bother you, its definitely a good show!

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest is a Funimation licensed Fantasy anime series. The anime, which started to be published in 2020, is an anime adaptation of the manga written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayuki. Directed by Kinji Yoshimoto, the anime series originally began airing on AT-X, Tokyo MX, SUN, BS11 local Japanese channels on July 8, 2019. The same studio team as Goblin Slayer, the anime by White Fox, licensed by Funimation, was also on Hulu TV. Except for the OVA episodes of the series, we watched the 13th episode titled “The Best at Being the Worst” on October 7, 2019. Fans are now wondering, has the series been renewed for a second season and when will it air?1 What was the plotline of Arifureta?2 When is the release date of season 2 of Arifureta?3 What will happen in season 2?3.1 Who are the characters of the anime?3.1.1 Hajime Nagumo3.1.2 Yue3.1.3 Shea HauliaWhat was the plotline of Arifureta?Hajime Nagumo, 17, is an average otaku. His ordinary life, where he studied at night and slept at school, is reversed when he is called into a fantasy world with the rest of his class. In the world they go, they are treated like heroes with their friends and task with preventing the human race’s extinction. However, this event, which will be the dream of an otaku, becomes Hajime’s nightmare. Although all of his friends are blessed with divine powers, Hajime only has the ability to transform. His friends bully him because he is weak. A dungeon quest separates him from his group. Will Hajime survive in this dangerous world full of monsters? The fans of the manga are divided into two for the anime. Some are admired; others are worried about the quality of the adaptation. Some people did not like CGI; they think it was uneven battle scenes, skipped scenes, and more. But studios managed to improve the quality a little more towards the last episodes. But it was not enough for some fans of the series. That’s why many opposed the season 2 release so as not to ruin the anime even more. When is the release date of season 2 of Arifureta? There is good news for the fans of the series. The creators of the series renewed the series for a second season! White Fox and Asread will be collaborating for the second season. The ongoing successful light novel series of series also gives hope for a third season. There is enough source material available, but the quality of the next season of the anime will determine the continuity of the series. According to the news from the official website and Twitter account, the anime will be released on January 13, 2022.What will happen in season 2?Now is the time to find a way to the world. The last time we watched the anime: Arifureta, Hajime managed to defeat the devil and save his friends. The crew is in Myu’s hometown of Erisen. Crossing the Gruen Desert, Hajime and his friends save a young Phoenix man from a sandworm attack. The person saved is Bize. Bize sought a cure for an illness that caused great suffering for his people. The problem is that the mineral that Bize is looking for is found in Grand Gruen Volcano, a very dangerous labyrinth. Hajime and his friends agree to help Bize, and a new maze adventure begins. Great battles await us in the second season, but as time passes, it will turn into a harem adventure. Now, Hajime only desires Yue, and he is committed to keeping a monogamous relationship with the vampire princess. The second season of the series will be much more exciting as we can see from the rising momentum in the first season.Who are the characters of the anime? We will see new characters in the second season of the series, but there will be no change in the main cast of the first season. Popular characters can be watched in the second season.Hajime NagumoVoiced by: Fukamachi ToshinariNagumo Hajime is a 17-year-old otaku who was bullied by both male and female classmates. Manga the Week of 3/10/21
SEAN: Has anyone else run out of time to read things? You’d think I’d be reading MORE in a pandemic, but…
MICHELLE: I have run out of brain to read things.
ANNA: My non-work reading and writing have suffered.
ASH: It’s strange but true.
MELINDA: What is time?
SEAN: Airship has the print debut of Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything With Low-Level Spells. Also in print is the second ROLL OVER AND DIE: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword!, and digital-first gives us the 2nd Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs.
Dark Horse has a 7th Deluxe Hardcover edition of Berserk.
ASH: It’s probably no surprise that I’ll be picking that up.
SEAN: Drawn & Quarterly has a biggie: the late Shigeru Mizuki’s adaptation of Tono Monogatari, a famous collection of folklore. It ran in Shogakukan’s Big Comic.
ASH: My recent brief doesn’t truly do it justice, but I love this book.
MELINDA: Ash is persuasive!
SEAN: No debuts for J-Novel Club, but a lot of new volumes of beloved series. We see Ascendance of a Bookworm 11, Bibliophile Princess 5, the 2nd manga volume of The Engagement of Marielle Clarac, Girls Kingdom 2, Infinite Dendrogram 14, the 5th manga volume of The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar, and Slayers 6.
ASH: Yay, Bookworm!
SEAN: Kaiten Books has a debut with Welcome to the Outcast’s Restaurant, a manga version of the light novel we’ve seen released here by Tentai Books. A strong adventurer, banished by his party, starts a restaurant, and has to deal with his customers’ varied issues.
ASH: There seems to be a surprising number of these types of restaurants.
SEAN: Kodansha has some print. There’s Grand Blue Dreaming 12, Rent-a-Girlfriend 5, Saint Young Men 5 (in hardcover omnibus), and the 14th and final Waiting for Spring.
MICHELLE: I’ve been waiting for Waiting for Spring‘s finale for ages!
ANNA: I have the first volume and I still haven’t read it!
ASH: I’ve liked what I’ve read of Waiting for Spring so far, but Saint Young Men has most of my attention from this batch.
MELINDA: Same here!
SEAN: For digital, the debut is Shaman King: Marcos, which runs in Shonen Magazine Edge, and is MORE SHAMAN KING.
Also digital: A Couple of Cuckoos 3, Ace of the Diamond 31, Peach Boy Riverside 5, Saint Young Men 10, Seven Shakespeares 15, and We Must Never Fall in Love 7.
MICHELLE: A baseball binge is in store for me!
SEAN: Seven Seas has two debuts. The first had an anime recently, and it’s called Super HxEros (Dokyuu Hentai HxEros). Despite the Japanese title, this isn’t quite porn, but it does run on fanservice. Aliens are sapping the world’s lust, and only superheroes who can use their own lust to power up can stop them. This runs in Jump Square, home of Blue Exorcist, believe it or not, and is 11+ volumes in Japan.
The other debut is Wonder Cat Kyuu-chan (Fushigi Neko no Kyuu-chan), a 4-koma about an office worker who finds an abandoned cat that proves to be… a wonder cat! This looks very cute.
ANNA: That does sound cute.
ASH: It does.
SEAN: Also from Seven Seas: Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor 11, Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest 6 (manga), Arpeggio of Blue Steel 17, Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time 4, The Ideal Sponger Life 8 (manga), The Saint’s Magic Power Is Omnipotent 2 (manga), and We Swore to Meet in the Next Life and That’s When Things Got Weird! 2.
SuBLime gives us Caste Heaven 5 and the 2nd and final volume of Toritan – Birds of a Feather.
MICHELLE: I need to check out Toritan. Caste Heaven was not for me.
ASH: I haven’t tried Caste Heaven yet, but I really liked the first volume of Toritan. I didn’t realize it was only two volumes long.
SEAN: Tokyopop has Katakoi Lamp, a BL title from Rutile. A young man working at a coffee shop falls for a customer, but can he work up the courage to confess?
They also have the 2nd volume of Ossan Idol!.
Vertical has a 9th volume of Flying Witch and a 3rd With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun.
Viz has Tokyo Fashion: A Comic Book, an illustrated guide to building your wardrobe and looking good.
ASH: Oh, that could be interesting!
SEAN: We also have Fly Me to the Moon 4, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 8, RIN-NE 38, and Splatoon: Squid Kids Comedy Show 3.
Yen On has a debut, with The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shoujo no Ikirumichi), about a woman whose job it is to STOP isekai protagonists – they keep bringing chaos whenever they arrive! Unfortunately, the girl she meets may be more than she can handle. Nice seeing more yuri light novels.
ASH: That is kind of a delightful and cathartic twist to the isekai deluge. And it’s yuri, too? I may have to check it out!
SEAN: Yen On also has Combatants Will Be Dispatched! 5.
Three debuts from Yen Press. I Cannot Reach You (Kimi ni wa Todokanai) is a BL series from Media Factory’s Gene Pixiv, and is a childhood friend romance sort of story. It looks sweet.
MICHELLE: I’m really looking forward to this one!
ASH: Me, too!
MELINDA: Okay, yes, THIS.
SEAN: SEAN: Play It Cool, Guys (Cool Doji Danshi) runs in Square Enix’s Gangan Pixiv, and features a bunch of cool guys who are secretly… awkward dorks! This seems more on the funny side.
ASH: Could be fun!
SEAN: Penguin Gentlemen (Penguin Shinshi) is a done-in-one hardcover about a group of penguins who run a bar. Sometimes they’re drawn as penguins… and sometimes they’re drawn as buff hot guys. This ran in Kadokawa’s Pixiv Essay.
ANNA: This sounds hilarious.
ASH: It really does, in the best sort of way.
MELINDA: This sounds amazing.
SEAN: Lastly, Yen has Happy Sugar Life 8, I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years 5 (manga), Kakegurui Twin 9, and Restaurant to Another World 4.
What series are you falling more and more behind on?
MICHELLE: ALL OF THEM.
ANNA: SO MANY SERIES!
MELINDA: I REPEAT, WHAT IS TIME?

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (Japanese: ありふれた職業で世界最強 Hepburn: Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō) is a Japanese light novel series written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki.
The series follows Hajime Nagumo, who is transported to another world with the rest of his class but receives only the most average of magical abilities, forcing him to fight to improve himself.

Manga vs Anime adaptation
Arifureta  anime adaptation released this July 2019, due to being likable by the masses. Now the question is if the anime will be satisfying the same as the manga. In this review i would like to share my personal opinion in the anime adaptation. First of all the graphics was 8/10 i would like to give it a perfect score but the manga has more refined texture than the anime adaptation. The story, well the story also goes as the manga does they will be some twitching or removing in order to shortened the episodes but overall the story is refined and understandable. The voices of the characters will not disappoint the viewers it is well blended to the attitude of the characters. The animation will also be getting a positive response due to its wonderful and smooth movements. Overall the anime adaptation so far is a success well there’s still more to expect and to explore because it is only 3 episodes as of now.
The anime adaptation will be an anime worth watching for the anime viewers and the manga readers.

Seventeen year old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They're treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku's wet dream quickly turns into Hajime's nightmare. While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime's job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith's level of strength?
The first season of Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest aired from July 8, 2019, to October 7, 2019, with two OVA's released in December 2019 and February 2020. Funimation streamed the series. The second season is scheduled to premiere on January 13 on AT-X at 11:30 PM.
