The Vampire

Michelle Marcone: 1904-1929, Beloved Child, you will be missed. That's what the tombstone reads, and every few decades, she comes back to see her grave, just out of sentimental value. But she doesn't go back to North Carolina much. Not if she can help it.

But what was her life, when she had it? Born to Romeo and Anna Marcone, most of her early life was spent without her father, who'd been drafted to serve in the Great War, she'd grown up with her mother teaching her how to sing. After he'd returned from it, she got a few wonderful years helping him as he started up working as a private detective, being his girl Friday. And maybe she'd have had an interesting and simple life, probably ending up as some rich man's pampered wife sooner or later. But when her parents died in a bridge collapse, Michelle was forced to do her best to make do to pay the bills.

It's probably best not to ask about what things she had to do in order to be the lounge singer for a speakeasy, especially in such a dry state. She certainly won't tell you. Best not to think about what a nineteen year old girl does to keep the family house. But knowing that this was probably going to be her lot for the near future, she took to the attentions men showered on her like a duck to water. There wasn't going to be a happily ever after for her now, but if she was going to be stuck in sin, she might as well learn to enjoy it.

The only truly good luck she'd really had was in getting a young woman who was willing to pay to be a lodger. That was when she met Rachel Mae, the woman who'd be her companion for the rest of her existence.

And honestly, one can't explain Michelle without talking about Rachel. Shy, bookish, uncomfortable around others, she was the kind of odd beauty who prefered to hide her body to avoid the attentions her landlady dealt with so casually. One would think that the pair most certainly wouldn't get along that well all things considered. And at first, they didn't. But, well.. Things slid from awkward interactions to friendly companionship, and then eventually to the pair sharing a bed even before Michelle was turned.

And honestly, we haven't even gotten THAT far, have we? Not to the vampire who turned her, or how they killed him. Nor their trip to New York and why that ended so badly, or even how and why the two girls ended up living in Vegas together, or at least living just outside of the county. But honestly, it's best if we leave the two SOME mystery, don't you think?

Just so you arrive, I be careful about reblogging work from someone named "DevilHS", due to the fact that draw weird stuff like incest.

I've only reblogged one thing from them, and that's a cute drawing of Scarecrow eating candy. I honestly didn't know about the incest, but I hate not reblogging the innocent art. :( that said, I'll be more careful and think hard on whether or not I want to keep reblogging that piece. I don't want to give that kind of stuff a place to fester and grow.

FAN ART FRIDAY: "Yes, That Should Work.”

“Yes...that should work.”

Isn’t that the most satisfying phrase to see after clearing a level? But while the video replay shows a calculating assassin who knew exactly what he was doing, we all know the truth: it was panicked, improvised, and exceedingly messy. This week’s Katana ZERO Fan Art Friday focuses on Zero’s violent exploits across New Mecca and beyond. Not for the faint of heart. Let’s begin!

The game wasn’t out yet--she didn’t know the samurai’s name. She didn’t even know which side the guy wore his robe on. But she knew two things: he gets down to music and gets covered in lots of blood. 

As one of the game’s most prolific fan artists, spiderbird (@spiderbirdo) captures the eerie mixture of relief and regret felt as you finally slaughter a roomful of SWAT cops, cut the music, and watch the dust settle. It wasn’t well-planned, and it certainly wasn’t clean. But at least it’ll wash out.

No, not Strong Terry! Comic creator jimmydartist (@JimmyDArtist) renders the bloody aftermath of Zero’s mansion battle in a monochrome manga style, making excellent use of halftones and ink splatters to mimic the cheap newsprint of Japanese tankōbon. The high angle and deep shadows show someone who’s clearly not proud of what he’s done, but knows there will be more blood to shed before the night’s over. 

Rest in peace, Terry and Ricky--you’re lifting and chugging with Baby Jesus now.

While a lot of fan art depicts Zero as a stoic master of the blade, devilhs (@mrdevilhs) shows how a lifetime of close calls and near-death experiences weigh on a man. 

Zero’s sunken eyes and pale skin remind me less of Samurai Jack and more of Oldboy, pushing himself through pain and exhaustion through sheer will. I can almost hear Zero’s heavy breathing as our hero struggles to his feet, grimacing as he yanks the sword from his latest victim and trudges towards the door, trying to forget the past dozen attempts that ended in his demise. 

"You enjoy it, don’t you? Killing.”

Japanese artist Ｋ太 (@masquikeita) imbues that age-old gaming question with new meaning as Zero basks in pastel-pink blood. Being someone born into conflict, does Zero even know what killing means? Why it’s sometimes wrong, and other times not? Or is every murder just another adrenaline rush of slow motion and neon colors to him, as seen here? 

Speaking of neon colors, it seems someone unlocked a certain post-game weapon--specifically, ちば (@palchiba), who demonstrates the secret “Seven-Color Way of the Master Blade Works” parrying technique of the Shinkage-Ryu School. It is said that those who have deflected bullets without using slow-mo never care for anything else thereafter.

favorite thing about them

I love how he’s very dad-like with everyone in or not in the party. He gives off this step-dad “I’m trying to do my best but I keep fucking up sometimes” vibe to how he looks after everything and I love that.

least favorite thing about them

I had to think about this one, but maybe how “take charge” he feels he had to be. This can tie into what I love about him, but there are times where Diath would throw himself into leadership role a little too hard and that had fucked him up time and time again. I think it’s bc in the beginning the party REALLY needed a leader and Diath was the only levelheaded one. But now they’ve grown to where they don’t need Daith to be the leader all the time (sometimes tho) and yet he’ll put himself into that role just a little too hard.

I can’t think of a line, so instead, I’m just gonna say that conversation with Evelyn in the forest……. Yee.
