One is the things I love when a habitat is built is when that depth is created from graphics or murals. It makes the whole habitats feel immersive and expanded. Happy Monday everyone!! Since we dropped the ball a bit last week we are going to finish our 5 day/5 post commitment on habitats for amphibians and reptiles! Today's is a Bull frog habitat we built for @sciencenorth. Scoured my videos to see if I had a good one but frankly I'm horrible at getting in action filming! Let's call that a new goal lol. Either way the next step to sculpting with panel is to brush in your edges. The brush is a fantastic tool and truthfully gets used from this point on. After the mud is on, rolled, we brush the edges, but we also brush carved lines to soften when needed, we go over everything so that no spot is missed and then we switch with each other when possible to quality control. This is one of the most important roles and easiest to mess up. New artists sole job is to roll and brush until they get that perfect, then stamping is next! Happy Wednesday everyone! Here's a few of the absolute musts we have for any day of finish work, right tool for the right job. Typically we have a couple different sized brushes, stamps of course, carving knife, various trowels these killer crack rollers from @formandbuildsupply and a paint roller with a bit of build up is always best! We have dozens of various levels of build up to try and match the rock. What we tell every new guy/ ourselves at the beginning of the carve. Throw your ego out! This is an art, and our job is to match mother nature (the panels) not to "improve" never put extra texture where it's not needed, never carve a line that doesn't have a purpose and if we do our job perfectly no one will be able to tell when one panel ends and the other begins. We take our time and we don't rush. Everyone also gets a say. Does anything look out of place? Does anything look unnatural? Sometimes the artist has their nose glued to the concrete so long they miss the bigger picture and we force each other to stand back as often as we can.
