Miss Fisher Snippets (217)
When Dot decided to work for Miss Phryne, she was worried what her priest would think of her gun and knives and…dancing, but she took the job anyway. It’s true that she had little choice as she needed employment; however, she also sensed that life would be full of adventures and excitement with the Lady Detective. Sure enough, assignment number one was not to help with the unpacking at the new house as any normal companions were expected to do. Instead, she was invited to get on the Ballarat Train – boarding first-class, no less – and “have some fun”. How thrilling was that?
********************
p.s. This evening (November 2), a number of Mid-Atlantic Adventuresses and Adventurers would do just that – have some fun on the New Hope Railroad Speakeasy Train. They will “embark on an exciting adventure through the rolling foothills of Bucks County [Pennsylvania], plunging into the clandestine world of 1920s nightlife…Savor a carefully selected trio of demi-cocktails, perfectly complemented by a variety of delectable canapes, all while soaking up the unique atmosphere reminiscent of the prohibited era”. I am regrettably unable to join the journey but hope you all enjoy a roaringly good time!

TDBM 5.6 Thinkie Thoughts
Happy Blake Day!
Which means I have recap little details from last week's episode to sort things in my mind before new data is added.
It's apparently been several weeks since Lucien's stabbing. He's in full sulky baby mode. Maudlin playing of piano, griping at Lawson, mixing alcohol and pain pills. No wonder Jean lets him go back to work.
I do like Casual Clothing Lucien, be the vision so brief.
I wince when he draws all over his anatomy chart. Imagine being his next patient and seeing the human body marked up like an autopsy report.
"I'm not your mother, Lucien." Yes you are, Jean, not that there's anything wrong with that. How many times does she sound like his mother in the episode? "Go back to bed, Lucien!"
Poor Alice is still learning her social cues. She reads Jean's horror at the photos as awe and gloats that she used the dark room at the Courier.
"I'm coming with you!" and Jean tags along to the morgue. But it's not like helping him look under a car. Yes, Jean's found half the murder victims, but it's one thing to find a dead body. An autopsy is another thing; this is horrifying. And who else does she know who were tortured? "Someone made her suffer over and over before she was..." There's also the matter of her recent reminder of her lost daughter, and here's a young woman, dead before her chance to escape her horrors.
Another Mum moment when Jean decides Lucien should have eggs for breakfast; build up his strength.
More Mum when she chastises Lucien not to burn himself with the iron.
SOMEONE promised me a graphic of Lucien ironing his wrinkled old man balls.
And there are the gray/lavender trousers! They look gray here....
Why are there so many awful educators in Ballarat?? Child molesters, child beaters, educators condoning bullying, teachers having inappropriate relations with students who're barely legal. Perhaps Thomas sent Lucien away for completely different reasons than we thought. Get him away from these schools!
Matthew saying about teenage daughters' ways: "Afraid I wouldn't know." The mystery of his family deepens.
I like Jean's line, "Why don't you wear something more comfortable?" So he sees his suits as his work uniform, which I guess makes sense for a career military man. I just wonder if he'll ever get a style upgrade. Jean has this season. When's his turn? Although I'm imagining One of Those Conversations when they're married, and Jean tries to get him into new suits. "These suits have plenty of wear left! Why would I want new?"
I shouldn't laugh since it's a serious topic, but LOL at the abortion clinic clients rushing from the place as the police show up! How nice that the two customers have their boyfriends with them.
I was surprised that Rose suddenly gained a friend but then it was just a plot point.
I also know that Rose kissed Lucien goodbye as a plot point, but it felt odd.
If AM doesn't learn how to hold and use a SLR camera before the end of the series, I'm going to fly over there and kick her ass!
Charlie still trying to get his vibe in his new role. "I was pretty hard on him." My wild speculation is that Charlie is actually going to be the source of the end of series angst as he tries too hard to fit into his role.
Did Lucien give flowers from a killer and abortionist to Jean?
I wanted to transcript some of Lucien's dialogue because I think there's a lot of information about his current mindset. To Dad of Dead Girl:
"So you're not going to care about anything else ever again is that it? Losing your family, Robert, it's enough to make any man shut himself off from the world. But it makes for a very...very lonely life, believe me."
On the bridge, where once again, Lucien has to talk a suicidal person down:
Robert: "I was supposed to protect her. I failed."
"I opted for a slightly different approach when I thought I'd' lost my wife and daughter. It was wartime. I volunteered for every dangerous assignment going. I survived so I tried drinking myself to death. Turns out I was a hell of a drinker. Didn't kill me but by God, I gave it my best shot.
It took a long, long time to be glad I didn't do what I wanted to do back then. But I am glad, Robert. I'm so very glad. It is possible to find a life again. I know. But you have to want it."
There's great irony in Lucien speaking of his drinking being in the past tense, when it's not going to be under a glaring spotlight.
Jean and Lucien, at the end of the episode in the kitchen:
Lucien: "I know only too well the dark place he's gone to."
And I think here he was getting ready to confess: "Jean, I've made things ever so difficult for you. But I want you to know I'm trying to make things better." Here's where he has the flashback to posting the affidavit. But before he can be specific, she says super nice thing, then says 'we' are going to make our decision together, and he chickens out. He's grown a lot emotionally from the man who couldn't even properly ask her to stay in S3 "You'll always have a job here, Jean." but he's so afraid of losing what little happiness he's gained.

Internship Entry 2: Finding my feet and initial internship tasks
In this entry I will be talking about finding my feet and the initial tasks I had to undertake during my first 40 hours or so at Cycling Australia.
As I mentioned in my previous entry, finding my feet for the official internship was quite easy for me as I had already completed close to a year of work with Cycling Australia and the media team. This included attending the Cycling Australia Road National Championships in Ballarat as well as the Track National Championships in Brisbane and numerous hours in the office including a few weeks full time over the summer break.
All of this made it extremely easy to find my feet and hit the ground running when it came to my official internship. I think if I had to highlight a challenge when it came to finding my feet for the official internship with the Cycling Australia team it would probably be the expectation to do an even better job and perhaps start putting my own ideas for content forward more often, this is something I did by coming up with an idea for a video series to boost engagement and promotion around local cycling clubs, this project is yet to get off the ground but it is something I am excited to do in the future and something Amy was quite happy with.
In terms of my initial 40 hours, the majority of this time was taken up by regular tasks that I had already been completing which included media releases, articles, creating a database of information on the Australian Cycling team amongst other jobs, however, my main task during the first 40 hours of my internship was designing and developing content plans for the four major Cycling events that were coming up, the Masters Road Nationals, the Track World Cup, the Road Nationals and the Track Nationals.
This involved creating four separate multi-page spreadsheets which laid out the type of content, the demographic it was for, its purpose, its due date and release date as well as what platforms the content needed to be released on as well as who was responsible for it. This job was quite ironic for me as during the sponsorship class in second year Daniel, Jamie and I absolutely hated the assignment that required us to create spreadsheets and questioned when we would ever actually need those skills in the industry.
Below is an example of what I created, it is only a partial screenshot of one of the content plans but it gives an idea of the work that went into them, I surprised myself with the pride I actually took from creating these and the fact that the Cycling Australia media team are now using the content plans I created is pretty awesome.
It showed me that no matter how pointless we may have thought certain assignments or learning opportunities were during the last three years, everything in the course had a purpose and has helped to prepare us for this industry.

2008 denver broncos
The Knights are led by senior captains Emily Lawrence and Jocelyn Kellinger two players who should help their younger teammates learn Tanis' defensive approach. Kellinger, who Tanis calls "the anchor of our defense," plays the libero position, and is the team's primary digger and passer. Lawrence, a middle, serves two primary roles: blocking and transitioning from defense to attack. I don recall how long this last part was, but it felt super long and super short all at once. Decisions were being thrust upon us quickly and Coach Outlet Onlinethey were in a hurry. Now that I was on my back, the contractions had slowed in intensity for the first time in the entire labor. McAdoo came under fire last season for his offense and he is the assistant Head Coach and if he is hired, then the Riders only need to find one defensive coordinator. The Riders Coach Outlet Sale went from leading the CFL in touchdown passes in 2017 to not leading in 2018 as the Riders went with a rookie receiving corps with an experienced quarterback. Do not leave out there's so a lot to do in Tokyo, from the average to the up to date, from the unfamiliar to the wholesome. are attempting a samurai sword-fighting class at HiSUi, go on a checklist keep clamber in Shibuya, or assume a night bout of Shinjuku with city adventures. See en.hisui-tokyomvisitors; urbanadventuresm FLIGHT CENTRE ny: this is a city where singledom isn't any barrier to getting out and enjoying your self. big apple activity IT by myself here's a city that wears abounding hats – artistic centre, glorious-eating capital, hipster anchorage, accumulation-tourism hot section, fashion chief – and it balances them effectively. BUENOS AIRES going IT by myself The Argentine capital is the best of so many worlds, a spot that mixes the class and affect of Western Europe with the ardour and alternation of South the usa; that is recognisable enough to be abating, and yet overseas satisfactory to be an experience. it's anxious, little question, and infrequently gritty – pickpockets assignment awash vacationer zones, and the cab drivers will every now and then attempt to fleece you – however that is whatever thing to take care of in opposition t, in preference to flip you away. The rewards in Buenos Aires are basically infinite, and the metropolis's countless passions are so convenient to tap into, even for those traveling by myself. where TO eat Portenos love their meat, so prepare your self for an aggression of protein in Buenos Aires. Don Julio Guatemala 4691 is among the metropolis's optimal parrilladas, or steakhouses, a comfortable neighbourhood chapter that uses splendid produce and cooks it fantastically. ESFAHAN, IRAN activity IT on my own Esfahan may additionally appear a wierd inclusion in a abandoned visitors' e-book. however, there cannot be a friendlier region on the earth and there's no other metropolis where you usually tend to accommodated native people and accomplish native chums. Esfahan is protected, welcoming and toothsome. simply visit Naqsh-e Jahan, the metropolis's big leading rectangular, and you'll recognize here is authentic. wander past an historical mosque or madrasah, and you will understand it's genuine. expend a night within the Armenian division, or walk across one of the most metropolis's 11 bridges, or shop within the old lined bazaar, and you may be aware of, no doubt, that here is actual. the place TO consume meals in Esfahan is often fairly low-priced and eating places are welcoming to solo diners. Abbasi Teahouse & Restaurant Amadegah street, Charharbagh-e-Abbasi avenue is decided inside an expensive resort in a 300-12 months-ancient caravanserai. The specialty is ash reshte, a affable noodle soup with beans and vegetables. where TO alcohol Iran has a national ban on booze, though that does not imply Iranians do not socialise over a drink. it's simply that it's tea. Azadegan Teahouse Chah Haj Mirza alley, Emam square is hidden down the end of a alleyway lined with antique stores, its tables packed with locals sipping and gesticulating. don't omit half of the area's most appealing buildings exist in Esfahan, or so the locals say. it be difficult to argue when you begin strolling this superb metropolis and soak up the mosques that surround Naqsh-e Jahan. best of Esfahan's 17th-aeon religious structures are launch to the general public and free to enter.
BERLIN going IT on my own most likely it's a reaction to the city's former way of life of suspicion and worry, but Berlin nowadays is incredibly advanced and commence-minded, the kind of place where the rest goes. you're chargeless to be as irregular and experimental as you love in this metropolis. abandoned travelers will feel acceptable right through, in the identical approach each person does. you'll discover many locals drinking espresso on my own, ingesting food on my own, even going out to confined on my own. And there are at all times friendly travelers around to discover this normal destination with. the place TO eat Berlin has a pleasingly multicultural dining scene, thanks in colossal half to a lot of immigrant communities. The city would not have a lot of common old German eateries, but Rogacki Wilmersdorfer Strasse 145 is one of them, a smokehouse and delicatessen that has been working for almost a hundred years. the place TO drink You might fill this total book with experiences of remarkable areas to go ingesting in Berlin. or not it's all so warm and attainable, so lacking in affectation and assailment. are trying Klunkerkranich Karl-Marx-Strasse 66, an inaugurate-air bar perched on the exact of a parking storage in valuable Neukolln, or cafe am Neuen See Lichtensteinallee 2 for the classic beer backyard adventure. don't pass over there is a whole lot for abandoned travellers in Berlin: the museums on museum Island; the numerous Jewish memorials and Nazi-era sites; the fortress at Charlottenburg; the running tours run by using alternative Berlin; and the chance to sing karaoke in accessible at the Mauerpark.
Lisbon is conspicuously most economical with cheap food, alcohol, carriage, attractions and alike shopping. LISBON activity IT on my own you're going to haven't any difficulty meeting individuals in Lisbon: English is largely spoken, and there is a herbal allure to best Portuguese, an amenable manner that makes it fundamental for visitors to slip into the Iberian lifestyle. Lisbon also has one of the crucial world's finest hostels, accolade-successful houses with sharp architecture, contemporary amenities and a affable ambiance. The city is conspicuously competitively priced with low-priced food, drink, transport, points of interest and alike searching. the place TO eat meals throughout Lisbon is excessive excellent, nonetheless it's hardly ever expensive. For one of the city's superior seafood, served in casual surrounds, are attempting Cervejaria Ramiro Av. Almirante Reis 1. For a selection of Lisbon's most reliable delicacies, talk over with the outing market Av. 24 de Julho in Cais do Sodre. where TO drink To consider the assault heart of Lisbon, go to a fado bar and take heed to this average local folk tune. Fado is not a celebration amateur: or not it's usually testimonies of lost love and affliction alloyed through finger-picked guitar. it is, however, actual popular. Tasca do Chico Rua dos Remedios eighty three is without doubt one of the metropolis's most suitable venues. don't omit there may be so plenty price in quite simply wandering Lisbon's streets to peer whatever you see. The avenues themselves are attractions, commonly historical cobbled paths lined with beautiful structures clad in common tiles, their floor flooring taken up via antique retail outlets or cafes or bars or boutiques. CONTIKI Amsterdam is very easy to cross. AMSTERDAM going IT on my own individuals think they be aware of Amsterdam: the sex-store home windows and the smoky espresso retail outlets; the bucks birthday celebration groups and boozy tour cartage. And Amsterdam does have those things. but there is so plenty more. this is a city of green house, of large parks and different reserves. it's also a city of paintings, from old masters to the younger and reducing-area, and a city of heritage, which you can not omit in the aerial properties and cobbled lanes. You might not believe alone as a solo traveller in Amsterdam. there's such a large tourism business here that you just're certainly not wanting americans to allotment your adventure with. And however you do not desire company, Amsterdam is a safe satisfactory to navigate and luxuriate in in your own. where TO eat notwithstanding Amsterdam's more suitable restaurants include high price tags, there are numerous options to entry first rate food on the low-priced. try Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx Voetboogstraat 33, an forever busy friteshuis, or chip apartment, in the city centre. where TO drink craft brewery Brouwerij't IJ Funenkade 7 has been in company a bit over 30 years, although you will consider it's older because of the charming building it's housed in under Amsterdam's tallest windmill. WHAT TO DO Amsterdam is awfully handy to navigate when you've employed a bike, and baby enough to cover the highlights in a number of days. solo travelers should still check out the metropolis's markets: one of the vital most beneficial encompass the Waterlooplein for antique clothing and antiques, the Bloemenmarkt for plants, the Noordermarkt for farm-sparkling food and the Nieuwmarkt for cheese.
SYDNEY activity IT alone Sydney is brilliant for solo guests: it be multicultural and different, providing everything from laidback beachy good instances to hipster-intimate cool. it's also a city where be sure you indulge the cliches, as a result of they are simply so first rate: Bondi seaside, the Harbour arch and the Opera residence, the Bondi to Bronte stroll, the manly bear, the arctic seashores. These are value seeing in their personal correct, but they additionally act as gateways to equivalent adventures additional afield. where TO consume Bondi beach is filled with trendy eateries that advantage from actor-dollar fit-outs and on-fashion airheaded featuring chia seeds and goji berries. north Bondi RSL 118 Ramsgate access has none of these issues. this is a no-frills institution with strong meals and affordable booze that additionally commands some of the top-rated angle in town. the place TO alcohol Opera Bar Macquarie street just isn't first rate. With the Opera condominium on one side and the Harbour arch on the other, or not it's tourist central, and it will be a cheat. it would be cheesy. And yet the alcohol costs are most economical, the crowd is gracious, and there is no improved region to be at sundown. do not pass over respectable news, solo visitors: most of the best famous attractions in Sydney are free. Go to a beach or catch a hike on the huge network of strolling trails within spectacular ambit of the city. explore the internal West: edgy, entertaining suburbs where there may be less Lycra and greater mendacity-in.

Laburnum Case Study 1 Laburnum Group Background: Laburnum Group
flickr photo shared by sunsurfr under a Creative Commons ( BY-NC-SA ) license From its origins in 1920 as a Victorian farmers’ cooperative, Laburnum Group has grown into one of Australia’s largest listed companies with headquarters in Victoria, Australia. Laburnum Group’s diverse business areas cover home improvement, office supplies, chemicals, energy, industrial and safety products, and clothing. A key objective of Laburnum Group is to provide a satisfactory return to its shareholders while addressing various requirements of their wider stakeholders (in terms of social, ethical and environmental responsibility). Given the scale and scope of their operations, Laburnum Group constantly monitors performance across its diverse portfolio of businesses which is essential to their corporate strategy decisions. In particular, the energy and the clothing portfolios are of strategic interest to Laburnum Group as together they constitute the biggest share of their overall business. These portfolios are currently facing inefficiencies and challenges which have motivated their top management to re-examine the current systems, processes and strategies across different product categories. An internal report that contains information about the recent assessment of energy and clothing businesses of Laburnum Group shows that the majority of the inefficiencies and challenges across these sectors can be attributed to procurement and supply chain management decisions. As a result, a number of procurement and supply chain-related issues across the energy and the clothing areas were further analysed by a cross-functional team (where you are working as a procurement and supply chain consultant) to identify areas where improvements might be attainable. The following sections detail specific inefficiency/challenge areas within the aforementioned business portfolios of Laburnum Group (energy: Sapphire Energy; clothing: AusCotton). As a procurement and supply chain consultant, you are required to use your learning obtained from this subject as well as academic resources to provide a quantitative and qualitative analysis of these inefficiencies/challenges and address the specific questions raised by the top management in form of a professional report. Read the issues facing these two businesses on the next two pages, and address the inefficiencies/challenges outlined at the bottom of each page.
2 Sapphire Energy Energy Portfolio: Sapphire Energy
flickr photo shared by zokete under a Creative Commons ( BY-NC-SA ) license Sapphire Energy is responsible for providing reliable electric service to customers in and around the areas of Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Melton, Sunbury, Shepparton, Traralgon, Wangaratta and Wodonga. One material used extensively to provide this service is the 1/0 AWG aluminium triplex cable (see image below), which delivers the electricity from the distribution pole to the meter loop on the house. The Eastern Power storeroom procures the cable as part of its contract with Sapphire Energy. For the coming year, Eastern Power will need 155,000 metres of this service cable. Since this cable is only used on routine service work, practically all of it is installed during the five normal work days. The current carrying cost (H) of this cable is $1.35 per metre. Under the present arrangement with its own supplier, the Eastern Power storeroom must take one-twelfth of its annual need every month. This agreement was reached in order to reduce lead time by assuring their customer (i.e. Sapphire Energy) a regular spot in the supplier’s production schedule. Without this agreement, the lead time would be about twelve weeks. No quantity discounts are offered on this cable; however, the Eastern Power supplier requires that a minimum of 4500 metres be on an order. Associated with each cable shipment are ordering costs (S) of $50, which include all the costs from making the purchase requisition to issuing a check for payment. In addition, inventory carrying costs (including taxes) on all items in stores are considered to be 10% of the purchase price per unit per year (in other words, the purchase price is $13.5). Being a government-regulated, investor-owned utility, both the Victoria’s Essential Services Commission and the Laburnum Group shareholders watch closely how effectively the business, including inventory, is managed.
Challenges: As a procurement and supply chain consultant, you are asked to investigate and analyse the following challenges faced by Sapphire Energy: Quantitatively (and qualitatively) evaluate the effectiveness of the current ordering system. Discuss if (and how) the current inventory system be improved? Your investigation of the above challenges will help you towards developing your report for Assessment 2. 3 AusCotton lothing Portfolio: AusCotton
flickr photo shared by Mini D under a Creative Commons ( BY-SA ) license AusCotton is a global manufacturer of winter and summer outdoor sports apparel. Its winter line predominantly includes outerwear such as ski jackets, fleece, windbreakers, and footwear. Its summer line is somewhat different and includes running attire (shorts and shirts), windbreakers, backpacks, hydration systems, and footwear. The company is headquartered in Geelong but does business principally through retailers in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America. In addition, AusCotton has established itself as a well-known Internet retailer of its full product line. Overall, AusCotton is viewed as a trendsetter and is one of the most profitable firms in the Australian clothing industry. At the present time, AusCotton uses contract manufacturers in China, Taiwan, Vietnam and India to make most of the items in its product line. Typical manufacturing lead times are anywhere from 4 to 12 months, depending on the type of product being manufactured and the complexity and range of materials needed to manufacture individual items. Both air and ocean are used for shipments to the destination countries, with the transport mode selection being largely a function of the urgency of the shipment. AusCotton maintains eight company-owned distribution centres located across the globe to ensure they are able deliver to, and within, different countries every day. As a practical matter, the alternating seasonal product lines manufactured by AusCotton help to ensure year-round utilisation of its contract manufacturing capacity and its company-owned distribution centres. Over the past few years, AusCotton has experienced a number of areas of concern, including the following: Intensifying competition from other manufacturers of similar winter and summer outdoor sportswear. Given the attractive profit margins on many of its products, a number of new competitors have emerged in recent years. Inaccuracy of demand forecasts across both the winter and summer lines of products and the geographies served. Coupled with unexpected variations in the length, consistency, and cost of transportation services, this has resulted from time to time in stockouts of needed items at retail stores. The need for a meaningful, strategic sourcing process that can help to better guide the approaches taken by AusCotton with regard to the supply side of its business. Evidence that the contract manufacturers employed by AusCotton are also manufacturing illegal, counterfeit merchandise that is being sold through gray market channels. Challenges: As a procurement and supply chain consultant, you have taken time so far to visit the company’s global facilities and to become aware of the situation, problems, and concerns that are faced by the company. You are asked to investigate and analyse the following challenges: Considering the global business environment and the positioning of AusCotton with regard to its markets and supply sources, investigate major global issues that will be relevant to the area of strategic sourcing at AusCotton? Justify. Investigate the impacts of less-than-perfect demand forecasts for AusCotton products, and of volatility in the length and cost of transport services used to move its products from contract manufacturers to distribution centres? What can be done by AusCotton to mitigate these problem areas? Assess and justify. What elements of the strategic sourcing methodology are the top candidates for improvement at AusCotton? Assess and justify. How AusCotton should respond to the assertion that some of their contract manufacturers are involved in producing illegal merchandise that ends up competing with the branded merchandise of AusCotton? Justify. Your investigation of the above challenges will help you towards developing your report for Assessment 2
