The Phoenix of Jerusalem
Chapters 3 and 4
Tumblr media
Chapter Three: The Garden Before The Fall
Baldwin IV, and the ache of almost remembering.
The silence after court was its own kind of music.
Baldwin sat in his private chamber, veil removed, hands newly cleaned and dressed. The latest treatment left a faint tingle on his skin—Amira's salve, unfamiliar but gentle. Not the harsh vinegar stings of the Frankish physicians, nor the choking pitch of smoke-blown poultices. Hers was different. Thoughtful.
He rolled his shoulder, grimacing at the pull of old scars, and looked toward the window. The fig tree just outside was beginning to bud again.
He hated how it caught him off guard.
He didn't dream often anymore—fever took that from him. But lately, memories had crept in during the day, unwelcome and unspoken.
A girl's voice. Not Amira's, but similar. Lighter. Younger. Braver.
"You're holding it too tightly."
He'd heard that line yesterday—out of Amira's mouth. And it had shaken him. Not because it was unusual advice, but because it had lodged into some splintered part of him, perfectly.
He couldn't stop hearing it.
As a boy, Baldwin had spent more time in the palace gardens than in the chapel. His instructors believed him studious, but he only obeyed them because he had learned how to listen with half an ear.
He used the other half to listen for footsteps not meant to be there.
She had always arrived just before the bell for afternoon prayers, bare-footed and smirking, a smudge of ink on her sleeve from her father's study. Not a court girl. Not a servant.
She climbed fig trees like they were ladders to heaven.
What had her name been?
He could not remember it now—only that she called him "sly" and made fun of the way he pronounced Latin when he was tired. That she made him laugh once so hard he snorted and she fell out of the tree.
And that she didn't treat him like a prince.
He remembered watching her run across the stones of the courtyard, hair unbound, a book clutched to her chest.
Now he watched Amira—not that girl, he told himself—move through his chamber with the same easy grace.
This morning, she had returned to examine his hand again. She spoke little. Measured precisely. Didn't linger.
But once, while pressing the side of his thumb, she had paused. Just for a heartbeat too long.
And he'd looked at her then. Really looked.
The curve of her brow. The scar at the edge of her wrist—so faint he almost missed it.
Something about her... haunted him.
Not beauty. He had seen beautiful women. This was different.
It was familiarity. The way she tilted her head while concentrating. The way she corrected herself mid-sentence as if translating thoughts from another tongue.
He had nearly asked her—Have we met before? But kings didn't ask foolish questions. Not aloud.
Later, alone in the chapel, Baldwin stared at the stone floor where light filtered through stained glass. The warmth from the window touched only his robe.
The fig tree's shadow stretched long beside him.
He heard her voice again—not Amira's voice, but that girl's—drifting from some lost place in his memory.
"You shouldn't be down there."
He pressed his hand to his chest, fingers aching beneath the bandage.
He had forgotten the girl's name. But not the feeling of being seen. Not the sense of wholeness that had nothing to do with health or power or prayer.
She had been the last thing he'd lost before his body began to betray him.
He wondered if Amira ever climbed trees.
Chapter Four: The Weight of Flesh and Trust
When hands work side by side, the heart listens.
The boy's scream echoed through the stony corridor like a struck bell.
Baldwin froze mid-sentence, looking up from his desk. The guard at his chamber door turned, startled, before rushing out. A heartbeat later, another voice—a knight's—shouted for a physician.
"Get the woman from Damascus! The king's healer!"
Amira.
Baldwin rose slowly, body protesting, hand throbbing in time with the alarm. He moved without waiting for his attendants, stepping into the hall with an expression that brokered no delay.
By the time he reached the lower courtyard, a crowd had already gathered.
A squire lay sprawled on the stone, his leg mangled grotesquely beneath him. A horse—spooked, now restrained—stood nearby, lathered in sweat. The boy, no older than fourteen, sobbed uncontrollably, his screams fractured into hiccuping gasps. Blood pooled fast.
Amira was already there.
She knelt beside the boy, sleeves rolled high, hands moving quickly but without panic. Her satchel lay open beside her, supplies spilling like a battlefield's spoils—linen, hooks, a small iron saw. The boy thrashed.
"Hold him," she ordered. "Firmly. And do not let him see the leg."
Baldwin stepped forward before the guards could protest. "Has anyone summoned the master surgeon?"
"He'll bleed out before that man finishes praying," Amira replied coolly. "This boy has minutes, not rites."
Her tone was not defiant. Just... certain.
Baldwin knelt beside her, careful not to let his right hand brush anything. "Tell me what you need."
She didn't look surprised. "Boiled water. And strong hands."
He gestured to two knights. "You heard her."
Amira was already cutting away the boot, now soaked through. The smell was thick—iron, torn leather, and something darker, closer to rot. She murmured to the boy, voice low and rhythmic, not words so much as a pattern. A spell of steadiness.
Baldwin watched her. Not the leg, not the blood. Her.
Every movement was measured. Efficient. Kind.
He saw it then—what others might miss. The way she shielded the boy's view with her body, the way she kept her blade hidden until the last second, the way she checked her hand placement twice before making a cut. She had done this before.
Not once. Not as theory. But in war. In fear.
He knew that knowledge. It was not taught. It was earned.
The bone was cleanly broken. She worked fast, commanding the space like a general in a losing battle—focused, relentless, quiet in her power.
Baldwin fetched linen when she asked. He held the jar of wine she used for sterilization. He ignored the stares of the knights. He forgot, for one hour, that he was a king.
When it was done—when the boy's leg was bound and the bleeding slowed—Amira sat back on her heels, face pale, hands shaking just enough for him to notice.
"You've done this before," Baldwin said softly.
She didn't look at him. "I've done worse."
There was silence between them. Not awkward, but full. Honest.
He studied her profile—the curve of her jaw, the slight line between her brows. "You never asked what rank he held."
"He was in pain," she replied. "That was rank enough."
He nodded once, slowly. "Do you know how rare that is?"
Finally, she met his eyes. "Yes. That's why I do it."
That night, Baldwin wrote nothing in his journal. No reflections. No state affairs.
Instead, he sat at the window with the fig tree just visible in the moonlight, and he thought about hands.
Hands that cut. That stitched. That saved.
And how hers had steadied his.
He had trusted few in his short life. But tonight, he found himself thinking: If I must die in this city... let it be with her beside me.
Not because she was beautiful. Not because she was kind.
But because, for the first time in years, he didn't feel pitied.
He felt seen.

//gammalt utkast//
You were born into a society which spelled out with brutal clarity, and in as many ways as possible, that you were a worthless human being. You were not expected to aspire to excellence: you were expected to make peace with mediocracy (2017, p. 16).
I no longer had any illusions about what an education could do for me; I had already encountered too many college-graduated handymen” (p. 25). Längre fram:
Crime became real, for example - for the first time - not as a possibility but as the possibility (p. 27).
The really terrible thing, old buddy, is that you must accept them. And I mean that very seriously. You must accept them and accept them with love. For these innocent people have no other hope (2017, p. 16).
Det påminner mig om bell hooks The Will to Change.
I was icily determined - more determined, really, than I then knew - never to make my peace with the ghetto but to die and go to Hell before I would let any white man spit on me, before I would accept my ‘place’ in this republic. I did not intend to allow the with people of this country to tell me who I was, and limit me that way, and polish me off that way (p. 29).
You know, and I know, that the country is celebrating one hundred years of freedom one hundred years too soon. We cannot be free until they are free (2017, p. 18)
'God gave Noah the rainbow sign, No more ware, the fire next time!’

Is it even possible to coach an NFL team worse than the Cardinals’ staff?
Tumblr media
Steve Wilks and Mike McCoy are giving the Cardinals no chance to win.
Seven games into the 2018 season, the Arizona Cardinals offense still hasn’t had a single good game.
The only time the Cardinals put more than 17 points on the scoreboard was in a 28-18 win against the 49ers that saw San Francisco turn the ball over five times — including a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Apparently, that’s the level of self-destruction Arizona needs from an opponent to have a chance at scoring even an average amount of points for an NFL offense.
With 223 yards of total offense in a 45-10 blowout loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football, the Cardinals became the first team in 13 years to get seven games into a season without topping 270 yards. The last was the 2005 Houston Texans, a team that finished 2-14 and allowed David Carr to be sacked 68 times on the year. That’s the level of incompetence the Cardinals are on par with.
More amazing is that the Cardinals are doing it in 2018 — a year when NFL defenses can no longer keep up with offenses. The average team is racking up 366 yards per game — well over the 334.1-yard average of 2017 — while the Cardinals are barely cracking 200.
If the Chiefs and Rams offenses are playing chess, the rest of the NFL is playing checkers, and the Cardinals are in the corner chewing on the game pieces.
There’s a lot of reasons why the Cardinals are arguably the NFL’s worst dumpster fire in 2018, but it all starts with a coaching staff, led by Steve Wilks, that isn’t doing anything right.
David Johnson has been relegated into a useless plodder
Two years ago, Johnson had 1,239 rushing yards, 879 receiving yards, and 20 total touchdowns during a season that earned him All-Pro accolades. To put that in perspective, Rams running back Todd Gurley earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors last year with 19 touchdowns and 2,093 yards from scrimmage — numbers that led the league but were shy of Johnson’s in 2016.
Somehow, Cardinals offensive coordinator Mike McCoy has managed to take a premier talent and get absolutely nothing out of him. Johnson has gone from one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive weapons into a running back who bashes his head against a wall 15 to 20 times per game with little to show for it.
Johnson is averaging 3.17 yards per carry and it’s because the only way the Cardinals can think to get him involved is to run straight up the middle over and over and over.
the arizona cardinals are 28th in total rush attempts yet rank first in rush att right up the middle pic.twitter.com/rLj6t5Ch2Z
— Danny Kelly (@DannyBKelly) October 15, 2018
I blended all of David Johnson's #NextGenStats run charts together. The VAST majority of his runs are between the tackles. Absolutely baffling play calling for a RB with speed. For comparison, I added Melvin Gordon's carry chart from WK6 #Cardinals pic.twitter.com/SwYtw4dZnc
— James Koh (@JamesDKoh) October 18, 2018
This is a crime against football and probably a death sentence for many fantasy teams.
Johnson began his NFL career returning kicks in addition to a few offensive snaps because his blend of size, speed, and explosiveness make him a nightmare to bring down in the open field. The Cardinals have managed to make sure he never sees space at all.
When it’s time for Johnson to run absolutely everyone in the stadium knows it’s coming:

— Ben Baldwin (@benbbaldwin) October 19, 2018
Running into a NINE MAN BOX down 21-3 this is incredible pic.twitter.com/NIYyDQ3tM5
— Ben Baldwin (@benbbaldwin) October 19, 2018
The staggering lack of creativity includes never lining up Johnson at receiver, because — again — the Cardinals coaches seem to determined not to give their star playmaker space to work with.
David Johnson's usage as a receiver has somehow gotten worse. Per @NextGenStats, Arizona has split DJ out as a receiver (or in the slot) on just 3.5% of his routes this season. Pitiful. Was 20% in 2016.
— Graham Barfield (@GrahamBarfield) October 15, 2018
Against the Broncos, Johnson had 14 carries for 39 yards and three receptions for 31 yards. Unfortunately, that’s now a normal game for a player who used to average 132.4 yards per game.
The defense is a coaching disaster too
Earlier this year, our own Alex Rubenstein pointed out that the Cardinals never break out of nickel defense. Never ever.
In a 34-0 loss to the Rams in Week 2, the Cardinals had five defensive backs — Patrick Peterson, Jamar Taylor, Budda Baker, Antoine Bethea, and Tre Boston — on the field for all 72 defensive snaps. Not even on a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line did the Cardinals think ‘Hmm ... an extra defensive lineman instead of another 200-pound DB would probably be a good idea here.’
While it hasn’t quite been five defensive backs playing 100 percent of the snaps in every game since that Week 2 blowout, the problem hasn’t gone away. The Cardinals still stubbornly refuse to have any more than six defensive lineman and linebackers on the field.
The only way around it is if you consider Budda Baker — a safety who spends most of his time close to the line of scrimmage — more linebacker than safety. The Cardinals have been believers in the “moneybacker” position, but there’s an obvious drawback that comes with having a 5’11, 195-pound linebacker.
It shouldn’t be surprising then that no team has allowed more rushing yards or rushing touchdowns than the Cardinals. While no other team in the NFL has given up 10 touchdowns on the ground, Arizona is now up to 12 after the Broncos’ Philip Lindsay and Royce Freeman each got in the end zone Thursday.
Nickel defense is the new norm in the NFL, but the Cardinals continue to stubbornly show on a weekly basis why it can’t be a team’s only defense.
Are the Cardinals trying to ruin Josh Rosen?
Rosen’s NFL career began with less than five minutes to go in a game against the Bears with the Cardinals trailing 16-14. Despite having Rosen watch the first 55 minutes of the game from the sideline, Steve Wilks decided it was up to the rookie to save the day.
On Rosen’s eight dropbacks that night, he completed four passes for 37 yards, he was intercepted to kill one drive, and he was sacked to end the game. With Khalil Mack on the opposing defense, Wilks thought that was the perfect time to give his rookie his first action.
Rosen’s most recent NFL play ended with him limping off the field after he was sacked for a sixth time by the Broncos. That happened when the Cardinals had the rookie drop back to pass on a fourth-and-16 play with less than two minutes left in a 45-10 game. WHY?!
Behind an offensive line that struggled all night, the Cardinals saw fit to get Rosen hit just one more time for no good reason before calling it a night.
“Hindsight, when we sit and look back at it, should he have been out? Probably so, but you say that now when a situation happens,” Wilks said after the game.
No, coach, that’s the problem. The possibility of the situation happening is why he should’ve been out. Punt the ball. Run the ball. Send in Mike Glennon. Do anything other than drop back Rosen into pressure yet again.
Luckily for the Cardinals, Rosen said it was just a minor toe problem that isn’t going to be an issue.
But a few games into his NFL career, Rosen is playing behind an offensive line that’s doing him no favors, and throwing passes to receivers who aren’t helping much either. It was a bad night for Rosen who put the ball in the hands of the defense way too often, but the biggest problem for Cardinals is a coaching staff that’s giving the team no chance to win.

Alec Baldwin Compares Dylan Farrow to Fictional False Rape Accuser
Tumblr media
In a tweet that has since faced online backlash, Alec Baldwin attacked Woody Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow on Sunday, who alleges the director repeatedly sexually assaulted her as a child. And in a particularly tone-deaf decision, Baldwin compared Farrow to Mayella Ewell from To Kill a Mockingbird, one of western literature’s most notorious false rape accusers.
In To Kill a Mockingbird, Mayella attempts to initiate an affair with a Black man named Tom Robinson, and when he refuses her advances, Mayella and her father lie in court and claim Robinson attempted to rape her. Baldwin, disregarding the racial connotations that flow throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, decided to use Mayella as a convenient comparison to Farrow, who he said portrays an “arsenal” of “persistence of emotion” in publicly condemning Allen.
“Like Mayella in , her tears/exhortations r meant 2 shame u in2 belief in her story,” Baldwin tweeted. “But I need more than that before I destroy some1, regardless of their fame. I need a lot more.”
1 of the most effective things Dylan Farrow has in her arsenal is the “persistence of emotion.” Like Mayella in TKAM, her tears/exhortations r meant 2 shame u in2 belief in her story. But I need more than that before I destroy some1, regardless of their fame. I need a lot more.
— ABFoundation (@ABFalecbaldwin) January 28, 2018
To say that @RealDylanFarrow is telling the truth is to say that @MosesFarrow is lying. Which of Mia’s kids got the honesty gene and which did not?https://t.co/vpPhe5VFcG
— ABFoundation (@ABFalecbaldwin) January 28, 2018
Dylan Farrow proceeded to respond to Baldwin with a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, arguing that Baldwin’s comments disregard the book’s larger social context and prove the actor “is just not a stickler for details.”
“It’s interesting that Mr. Baldwin chooses to dismiss the judgments of Justice Wilk and Prosecutor Frank Maco, who reviewed ALL of the evidence instead of just selected bits and pieces,” Farrow said to the Reporter, referencing a lengthy court battle that ended with Judge Wilk calling Allen’s behavior “grossly inappropriate.” “However, considering that Mr. Baldwin confidently invoked Mayella Ewell to make his point while forgetting that it’s been hotly debated that she was, in fact, raped by her father, demonstrates that perhaps Baldwin is just not a stickler for details.”
Baldwin’s statements have since gone viral on Twitter, with many women criticizing the actor for attacking Farrow.
Like what exactly? It’s not like there is a video. You are just choosing to believe one person with no proof of innocence over one person with no proof of guilt.

That’s very problematic Alec. Is the absence of tears and emotions more believable then? Because women get shamed for that too. I believe Dylan because why would she lie? For so long? With nothing to gain?

You don’t see a pattern? He married the 21 yr old daughter of his girlfriend, Who was raised in his home with her siblings, after having an affair w her. He was messing around w/ his children’s sister. You don’t see how this is akin 2 what he’s being accused of by his daughter?
— Carole Turner (@CaroleTurner) January 28, 2018
After facing such a negative backlash, Baldwin has since responded.
If my defense of Woody Allen offends you, it’s real simple. Unfollow. Condemn. Move on.

2 assume that I or any1 wants 2 prolong or diminish the suffering of another by denying their truth is a mistake. But that cuts both ways. I hope that every perpetrator of sexual assault is caught and punished. No exceptions. And that innocent ppl are left alone. Having said that

In the wake of #MeToo, Allen’s alleged sexual abuse has reached the public spotlight in full force, with renewed attention brought to his treatment of women. Despite years of soft coverage from the entertainment industry on Allen and his career, the internet has found itself disgusted with A Rainy Day in New York’s look at statutory rape, and star Timothée Chalamet has vowed to donate his salary from the film to Time’s Up. Speculation has since emerged that the film may never be released, either, in light of renewed interest in the allegations.

Vinsten i tisdags gav 50.000 kronor. I finalen i Oslo får vinnaren 100.000 norska kronor.
V75-1: 7 Disco Volante. Res: 4-9.
V75-2: 6 Breidabliks Cognac. Res: 4-7.
V75-3: 2, 4, 6. Res: 8-10.
V75-4: 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10. Res: 1-15.
V75-5: 1, 2, 4, 7. Res: 12-8.
V75-6: 3, 5, 6, 10, 11. Res: 1-2.
V75-7: 2, 3, 5, 11, 12, 13. Res: 9-10.

Southern View Media Owners, Brad and Michelle Murrill
Tumblr media
We feel like posing a fun challenge for the owners of Southern View Media, Michelle and Brad Murrill. We want to get to know them, Twitter-style. As owners of a multimedia marketing and design agency in Daphne, Alabama - they know all about communication. Now let’s see how well they can communicate in 140 characters or less!
Tell us about your personal/professional background.
Michelle: Started a website in Charleston, SC called MomsofCharleston.com and got bought out, Worked for ATT/YP Marketing Solutions, then Started SVM
Brad: Ran a glass business, then ran a commercial AC company in Charleston, then broke a bone in my back, spent 5 years learning all things Google
How did Southern View Media come about?
Michelle: To offer solid marketing solutions to businesses. There is too much red tape in large companies. We knew we could offer a better option.
Brad: We knew we wanted to help local businesses in Mobile and Baldwin County in the digital field as soon as we moved back from Charleston.
What is your role in Southern View Media?
Michelle: SEO guru, Business Development, Social Media Marketer, Shoulder to Cry on, Manager, Blog Writer, Fish Feeder
Brad: Videographer, Video Editor, AdWords Certified, Google Expert, Bookkeeper, Janitor, Plant Waterer, IT, Actual Fish Feeder
What are you passionate about?
Michelle: Green Sauce from Moe’s Southwest Grill, traveling with my family, gymnastics, and seeing other businesses succeed.
Brad: White BBQ sauce from Moe’s BBQ, electronics, technology, Google Stuff, baseball, college Football (Roll Tide), and traveling with my family.
Coolest project you’re working on at the moment?
Michelle: I am most excited about the non-profit project we are developing, called “Non-profits of Mobile.” It is still in process.
Brad: I can’t pick a favorite. I love all the client projects I have. That is like asking me to pick my favorite kid. It can’t be done.
What are some of your pet peeves (personal or professional)?
Michelle: I cannot stand the sound of someone chewing. I also don’t like excuses. Just accept responsibility and move on.
Brad: I cannot stand a mess. Ask Michelle when the last time she did dishes or laundry was? I think she’s proud of her record.
Michelle: It's true, I don’t do chores often. I am the organizer, not the picker-upper. It’s been like 6 years since I have done laundry.
Brad: I love when she tells people that. I have declined 7 marriage proposals due to this statement.
Any secret talents or skills?
Michelle: Secret, probably not: But I can still do a backflip and I know how to do silks (Those things people climb in the circus)
Brad: I can recite almost any rap song lyric. I have an excellent memory. I can build almost anything.
Michelle: Brad would be an amazing standup comedian as well. Not to mention he can rewrite the words to any song to make it funnier.
Brad: Since we are calling each other out, Michelle can hold a handstand for over a minute, even after having a few drinks.
Where did your logo come from?
Michelle: Seahorses are monogamous and the father carries the babies. Brad is the main caretaker of kids, so the seahorse was the perfect fit for us.
Brad: We even have a salt water fish tank in the office.
Job well done, Brad and Michelle! We hope to hear more about Southern View Media in hilarious tweet-style interviews soon. Until then, we’re done and out! #peace ✌️

28 arrested in Los Angeles for entering freeway, students walk out in San Francisco, About 40 fires burned during protests in Oakland, California (CNN)For many Americans across the country, Donald Trump's victory is an outcome they simply refuse to accept. "Not my president," protesters chanted in rallies coast to coast. Tens of thousands filled the streets in at least 25 US cities overnight -- with demonstrations outside Trump's properties. Rosie Perez:"Donald Trump is a New Yorker and yet he has spread a message across this country". Robert De Niro: reading a tweet he thinks Trump will write "DeNiro should give back his Oscars, 'voting was rigged', there is only one Raging Bull and that's Vladimir Putin". Mayor Wilhelm-DeBlasio: " Tomorrow Donald Trump will have power; but tomorrow, you will have power as well","Donald Trump may control the agenda in Washington, but we control our destiny". Michael Moore: Pleading for Americans to join his '100 days of Receiving Movement,"I like to think positively that it will only take 100 days". Alex Baldwin:"Donald Trump and Steve Bannon and Mike Pence, they think that you are going to lay down, they don't realize New Yorkers never lay down". Bill Peek: I hope this lets the world know people are horrified, this isn't a movement just for the left, any mainstream person with common sense should be opposed to what is coming". ATT-TACTICAL: "This is all Leftist Bull Shit. They want burning tires at street corners, they want Water Cannons, they want CN/CS grenades thrown, they want Bats & Hats to march on their protests, they want Marshal Law imposed. The more extreme the damage, the injuries, the deaths, the destruction, the faster our Gen-Pop will turn on the Trump Administration. These miscreants want the conflict, they want to be hurt, they want the Legacy Leftist Press to showcase to what ends they are willing to go to convince Americans that Socialism is the only path. America be fearful fore they will attack you, blind-side you, injure you, murder you to achieve this goal. We are witnessing European style Social Democrat's willing to kill you to acheiving their goals". (at Att Tactical)
