How to download a hard copy of vimeo on demand purchase
Need: VLC
Recommended: ffmpeg (I'm just using this because I already have it)
ffmpeg installation: https://windowsloop.com/install-ffmpeg-windows-10/
Tried: yt-dlp, jdownloader, various extensions on chrome and firefox, inspecting source and searching for "vod" "progressive" "akamaized", etc. Results: FAILURE
This tutorial is working at the time it was made, which is currently: 1:20am, August 26, 2023.
Install Chrome Extension: Vimego Simple Video Downloader
Go to the video you've purchased on vimeo
On the video screen on the right hand side a list will appear with the options available to download. Click on the highest resolution to download, audio is not included, download audio separately.
Tumblr media
For the sake of making things with ffmpeg work smoothly, rename the files to something simple such as video.mp4 and audio.mp4 (the audio is downloaded as an mp4 but we'll convert this in the next step using ffmpeg!)
In the folder that the audio was downloaded to, right click, open command window, enter this code to run ffmpeg to convert the audio from mp4 to mp3: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -map 0:a -vn -b:a 256k output.mp3
If you don't have ffmpeg then I suggest finding an online mp4 to mp3 converter.
To download subtitles, follow the guide outlined here: https://gist.github.com/pjmartorell/384aa1d019f919af6b84894038bf29aa?permalink_comment_id=2814547
Simplified instructions from link above: In the video player on vimeo, click on the CC button and select your preferred language. Right click, select Inspect, go to the tab that says Network, in the Filter search bar, type in VTT, select this and right click to open in new tab.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right click on the tab that you just opened which, select save as. You can rename the file to whatever, such as subtitle.txt or sub.txt, etc. You don't have to save it as a VTT, just adding .txt to the end of the name will save it as a txt file.
Go to https://maestra.ai/tools/subtitle-converter/txt-to-srt and drag and drop your txt file to convert it.
After converting the srt file should look like this when you open it:
Tumblr media
You now have the mp4, mp3, and srt file.
All that's left is to combine the video and audio using either of two methods: ffmpeg, or VLC. Ffmpeg takes a couple seconds, VLC will take a while, when I tried it took a few minutes.
Using ffmpeg, enter this code into the command prompt making sure to replace "video.mp4" etc. with what you named the files: ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -i audio.mp3 -c:v copy -c:a copy output.mp4
Done, if you don't have ffmpeg, but do have VLC, use the method below ->
Follow these steps from: https://moviemaker.minitool.com/moviemaker/add-audio-to-video-in-vlc.html
Step 1. Run VLC media player. Step 2. Go to Media > Open Multiple Files… Step 3. Load the video file by clicking the Add button. Step 4. Check the boxes Show more options and Play another media synchronously… Step 5. Click Browse, a new window will pop up, add the audio file and click Select. Now the window should look something like this:
Tumblr media
Step 6. Click the down arrow icon next to Play and select Convert. Step 7. In the Settings section, next to Profile, click the wrench icon. Then switch to the Audio Codec tab, check the options Audio and Keep original audio track. Click Save. Step 8. Click the Browse button to select a folder to save the converted video. Name the file as you like, then click Start.
Now you can open the new mp4 file in VLC and it will have audio. If VLC doesn't automatically add the subtitle file then go to the tab that says Subtitle > Add subtitle file > Select your srt file. Make sure the srt file is in the same folder as your mp4. VLC should automatically add it when you select your video, so if you follow these steps and it still doesn't work then your file may be corrupted.
If you want to overlay the subtitle to the mp4 so that way you can watch it on a device that doesn't have VLC... Here is a guide I just found using ffmpeg to convert, it works fine for me: https://www.bannerbear.com/blog/how-to-add-subtitles-to-a-video-file-using-ffmpeg/ The link above uses this code: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf subtitles=subtitle.srt output_srt.mp4 (only replace bolded parts with your file names.) There may be other guides on how to add it without using ffmpeg but I haven't tried any of them. Good luck, and happy watching!

Digital Image Overview
Image design is all about establishing an engaging atmosphere that advances the plot in films and television. A movie's professionally created visual design elements add to the immersion and bind everything together for the audience. But , a lot of us still might have no idea about   what makes an image, commonly used image/video formats, wrappers, and codec. So, today i’ll be talking about all those things on my blog including a lot of other information which you should know if you are a Film Student.
Let's  start with the basics.
What is Image and Video? What are they made up of?
When hearing the term Image everyone comes  with the common sentence : a visual representation of something. And to say it in a simple way that’s what it is.
A person's public perception can also be considered while defining an image. For example, a rock star trying to improve his image would dress like a professor and pick up chess. But that’s not the ‘Image' I am talking about right now.
In simple sentences, Image  is a still visual representation of either subject or object while Video is an electronic representation of  moving visual image in the form of encoded digital data.
Now what are they actually made up of in the context of the digital world? Are they just the pictures?
Pixels is the right response. A picture is made up of pixels. The smallest addressable unit on a screen is a pixel, and the number of pixels an image uses determines its quality.
Understanding Image/Video Format, Codec and Container/Wrapper
There are a lot of Image/Video Formats, Codecs and Wrappers that are being used nowadays but today i’ll be talking about most commonly used image & web video formats, wrapper and codecs.
The Codec word itself is a blend of the words coder and decoder, as well as compression and decompression. It refers to what encodes and compressees, then decodes and decompresses the data that makes up your image/video.Data is compressed for storing and sharing via codecs. The data is then decoded and uncompressed for viewing and modification. H.264 or AVC is the most widely used codec for video compression. Audio file formats or file extensions are the container or wrapper for those codecs i.e. these codecs are housed or wrapped in audio file formats or file extensions.(https://www.adobe.com/au/creativecloud/video/discover/best-video-format.html#:~:text=Video%20file%20format%20and%20codec%20basics.&text=Codecs%20encode%20data%20to%20compress,or%20wrappers%20for%20these%20codecs. )
The varieties of video file formats are numerous. To assist you better understand when to utilize each, we've compiled information on some of the most popular.
1. MP4
The most typical and widely used video format is MP4. It can store audio, video, subtitles, text, and still images and is the most widely compatible. For use on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter, it is the ideal choice.
2. MOV
The MOV file format was created expressly by Apple for use with Quicktime Player and is relatively similar to the MP4 format. The greatest video format for Apple devices is this one.
3. AVI
Microsoft's response to the MOV video file format was the AVI format. It is one of the earliest video file formats still in use, having been created in 1995. Because of the big file size, it is less suitable for streaming and sharing but is perfect for short videos and television.
4. WMV
WMV files, which are AVI's replacement, may be played on both Windows and Apple devices as long as Windows Media Player is installed. One of the few video file types that can compress data more efficiently than MP4 is WMW.
5. WEBM
Google created WEBM, another open source video file format, for HTML5.  There is no need for Flash Player or any other plugins because it plays right in the browser.
Image file format that are mostly used in web are listed below:
APNG
Animated Portable Network Graphics(.apng)
Good choice for lossless animation sequences (GIF is less performant). AVIF and WebP have better performance but less broad browser support.
Supported: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari.
AVIF
 AV1 Image File Format (.avif)
Good choice for both images and animated images due to high performance and royalty free image format. It offers much better compression than PNG or JPEG with support for higher color depths, animated frames, transparency, etc. Note that when using AVIF, you should include fallbacks to formats with better browser support (i.e. using the <picture> element). Supported: Chrome, Firefox (still images only: animated images not implemented), Opera, Safari.
GIF
Graphics Interchange Format(.gif)
Good choice for simple images and animations. Prefer PNG for lossless and indexed still images, and consider WebP, AVIF or APNG for animation sequences.
Supported: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
JPEG
Joint Photographic Expert Group image(.jpg, .jpeg, .jfif, .pjpeg, .pjp)
Good choice for lossy compression of still images (currently the most popular). Prefer PNG when more precise reproduction of the image is required, or WebP/AVIF if both better reproduction and higher compression are required. Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
PNG
Portable Network Graphics (.png)
PNG is preferred over JPEG for more precise reproduction of source images, or when transparency is needed. WebP/AVIF provide even better compression and reproduction, but browser support is more limited. Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
SVG
Scalable Vector Graphics(.svg)
Vector image format; ideal for user interface elements, icons, diagrams, etc., that must be drawn accurately at different sizes.
Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
WebP
Web Picture format(.webp)
Excellent choice for both images and animated images. WebP offers much better compression than PNG or JPEG with support for higher color depths, animated frames, transparency etc. AVIF offers slightly better compression, but is not quite as well-supported in browsers and does not support progressive rendering.
Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari

Export setting used for popular platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitch e.t.c.
While many video formats can be used effectively with these platforms, it’s important to consider details like time required to upload, process and play the video – this is tightly tied to the file size associated with the video. To maximize effectiveness, and for optimal results:
Youtube:
It itself recommends the MP4 video file format with AAC-LC audio Codec and H.264 video Codec. The optimal resolution is 1080p (1920x1080), or for better quality, 4K (3840x2160). These options strike a compromise between device compatibility and quality.
Facebook:
MP4 and MOV are the most highly recommended, with MP4 coming out on top once again due to its smaller file size and fewer losses during compression. The target audience and device capabilities should be considered while choosing the resolution.
Twitch video format:
MP4, MOV, AVI, and FLV files. AAC audio. Depending on the viewer's internet bandwidth and desired level of quality, a resolution of 720p (1280x720) or 1080p is advised.
Commonly used image manipulation tools and techniques:
Tools for image modification are necessary for altering and improving images. Here are some often employed methods and instruments along with what they are utilized for:
Adobe Photoshop - Photoshop is a flexible image editing programme that is useful for operations like retouching, color correction, and compositing.
Lightroom - With capabilities like exposure correction, color grading, and batch processing, Adobe Lightroom is ideal for organizing and enhancing photos.

Canva-An easy-to-use internet application for designing graphics and social media material. For non-designers, it makes design jobs simpler.
Image Copyright Essential and Important Legal Information that artists need to know regarding intellectual property:
Copyright is intellectual property law. Copyright and moral rights, and are legal tools that practitioners can use to protect their work from unauthorized use, to protect their reputation or brand, and generate income.
Copyright regulations must be understood by artists and content producers in order to safeguard their creative property. Important copyright requirements include:
Ownership: When a work is created, its creators immediately acquire the copyright to it. However, registration offers further legal protection.
Fair Use: Fair use permits the limited, unrestricted use of copyrighted content for functions including criticism, commentary, news reporting, and teaching without seeking prior authorisation.
Creative Commons licenses, for example, allow creators to grant certain conditions under which their work may be used while still upholding their rights.
Attribution: When using copyrighted material, proper attribution is often required to credit the creator.
Public Domain: Public domain works are free to use and are not covered by copyright.
DMCA Takedowns: Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), content that violates copyrights can be removed from online platforms upon request.
For content makers, whether amateur or professional, understanding digital image and video formats, codecs, export settings, image modification tools, and copyright essentials is crucial. Creators may make sure their work is of a high standard, gets seen by the correct audience, and is shielded from unauthorized usage by following legal requirements and best practices. Whether you're an aspiring photographer, YouTuber, or graphic designer, the information provided in this blog article might be a useful tool for navigating the world of digital material.

Programs and tools I use to make videos
Hi, today I will share the list of programs and tools I use to make high quality videos. I will also explain what they are, and the settings I personally use (for the programs that need it). This guide is aimed towards Windows users. All programs are free, unless otherwise stated.
Definition of words that will be used in this list:
Codec: Codecs are compression technologies and have two components, an encoder to compress the files, and a decoder to decompress. There are two kinds of codecs; lossless, and lossy.  GUI: Short for “Graphical User Interface.” Converting/converter: Video converters are computer programs that can change the storage format of digital video. Append: Combine two or more videos into one.
Program 1: Media Player Classic with K-Lite codec pack
You can download MPC-HC with the K-Lite codec pack from here. About MPC-HC: It is a better and faster alternative to Windows Media Player. MPC-HC can play all sorts of different video formats with the added K-Lite codec pack. Both MPC-HC and K-Lite codec pack are completely free.
Program 2: AMVtool
You can download AMVtool from here. About AMVtool: AMVtool is a video converter mainly aimed towards AMV creators. It is a GUI for FFmpeg. This program is completely free. The Settings I use for AMVtool The difference between slower (placebo) and faster (ultra fast) presets is the slower ones tend to have better quality, while faster presets convert the video faster, but at the cost of reducing quality.
Program 3: MKVToolNix
You can download MKVToolNix from here. About MKVToolNIX: Is a small collection of tools that allow you to manipulate MKV video files. This program is completely free. What I mainly use it for: I find this program very useful for appending many video files into one. Here is a visual guide on how to do that. You need to have at least one video added on the list before you can append videos. To get the option, right click on the video you have added. The neat thing about this software is that it allows you to select multiple videos to append at one time, rather than one video at a time. Be aware that all video files need to be in the same file format and codec in order to be appended properly without any visual errors. The program will save your final video as MKV. You will need to convert it if you want it in a different format.
Program 4: Avidemux
You can download Avidemux from here. About Avidemux: A free and open-source program for non-linear video editing and transcoding multimedia files. What I mainly use it for: Trimming/splitting videos should they need it. This method is so much faster than re-rendering the entire video in a video editing software like Vegas Pro or After Effects. Here is a visual guide on how to trim videos. Be sure to change the video, audio, and output settings before saving (if you need to). Splitting a video is similar. Just only set one marker instead of both.
Program 5: Media Downloader
You can download Media Downloader from here. This program also has extensions which you can get from here. About Media Downloader: A program that can losslessly download videos from YouTube and other places (depending on what extensions you have installed). It is also a GUI for yt-dlp. yt-dlp is considered the best way to download videos. Extensions I use: gallery-dl, wget, and you-get. Both the program and extensions are completely free.
Program 6: FFmpeg/FFmpeg Batch AV Converter
FFmpeg can be downloaded from here. Go here if you require a guide to install FFmpeg. FFmpeg Batch AV Converter can be downloaded from here. About FFmpeg: A tool consisting of a suite of libraries and programs for handling video, audio, and other multimedia files and streams. It is a powerful tool with many options, but has a bit of a learning curve. FFmpeg is mostly for advanced users. About FFmpeg Batch AV Converter: A GUI for FFmpeg and the easiest way to use FFmpeg. Both programs are completely free.
Codec 1: Lagarith Lossless Video Codec
This codec is not included in the K-Lite pack. I highly recommend downloading it. You can download it from here. If any other codecs are mentioned from here on out, they are not included in the K-Lite pack and need to be downloaded separately.
Tool 1: Voukoder
Voukoder can be downloaded from here. (Instructions are included). About Voukoder: Voukoder is a system-wide video and audio encoding service for Windows. This tool can be used on various editing software. It improves the render quality. Here are the settings I use. Warning: File sizes for the videos can drastically increase with this tool + these settings. Render times may also increase.
Notable mentions:
DaVinci Resolve. The program can be downloaded from here. About DaVinci Resolve: It is one of the best free video editors. There is a paid version, but that is optional.
This guide was created on the 29th of August 2023 and will be updated if necessary.
My Other guides
Go here if you would like to know why video bitrate is important and what bitrate to use for your videos. Go here if you would like to view other guides I have written.

PSA: FUCK WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
We all have fond memories of this windows staple I'm sure; the funky patterns that'll appear on screen while playing music, the videos the teacher would put on (then never hide the stinking control bar), and sometimes you'd use it to organise music and rip CD ROMS.
Now if you've not gathered by this point, I'm a bit of an audiophile; I love my music and recently I've started to warm up to lossless music, and now that I have my modded iPod classic I've started to collect CDs again. Ripping CDs is a really simple process, pop a disc into your PCs disc tray, open WMP and click "Rip CD", however WMP let's you specify what format you want that music to be saved in.
iTunes is weird as shit. Apple (for whatever reason) doesn't like FLACs and so has it's own lossless audio format: ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) which WMP "Supports". So great, just tell WMP to rip the CDs in ALAC, save them to my laptop, then import them into my iTunes library. Then I just need to sync my iPod to this library and job's done.
NOPE! WMP had other plans; WMP completely sharted the music in almost every regard. The first issue reared it's ugly head on the iPod itself; random tracks (often those longer than 7 minutes) would just skip when played in an album or playlist. The fix for this was to use iTunes to convert the files to ALAC (even though they were ALREADY IN ALAC), which it can do (to some songs but not others for NO REASON) but it does not fix the next problem, which is that WMP cannot properly encode ALAC files at all, leading to a deafening static sound playing for a split second at random points in a song. There's no fix for this other than ripping the entire CD again and PRAYING!
So I give up on WMP, it's useless for any type of CD ripping, it often doesn't get track info properly, it's corrupted my audio files *countless* times and is generally a very clunky and horrible piece of software, I only hope iTunes it better at ripping IT'S OWN BLOODY AUDIO FORMAT! I'll test this tomorrow when a new CD (New Order's Substance) and a new CD player (I'm giving this bastard every chance), I would test it now but of course I'm in the middle of moving and packed my bastard CDs! Grrrr I'm so mad rn >:(
TLDR; WMP will corrupt your audio files and Apple sucks for not adopting FLAC as an audio format for lossless audio

it maybe worked???
it didn't lol
So, here's my tip for Windows users: switch to Linux if you can. If you can't, get VLC and be OK with some MKV files not playing that well (if you have the storage space and time, use video editing software to convert all the offending files to mp4) or wait until the DVD release of whatever movie/show you want to watch. Only pay the evil corporation as a last resort (as in "those codecs are being paywalled and I suspect it's a response to Microsoft ending up on the BDS list or just capitalism, but hey, streaming in some cases also counts").
If you can't see, Windows Media Player Legacy will still work. It just plays the audio and only the audio.
