I am delighted by all the people I see who want to cut the Spotify and music streaming cord by using mp3s again so you're in control with no algorithm or ads and you own the music no take backsies, but I just want to let you all know you don't have to splurge on a DAP if you don't have the money or don't want to carry multiple devices with you. The free VLC app will let you store and play mp3 (and i believe other formats too) on your smart phone, and they vehemently oppose ads. That's what I was using before I found a used Clip Jam for cheap and then later bought a used Phinistec z6 for ten dollars more.

TIL, you can make a plain text file with one direct http/s link to a video file per line, set the file extension of the playlist file to .m3u8, and VLC will load and play the playlist just fine. We're using it for archive.org and it's working great, you can even shuffle the playlist in VLC

Charles Martinet's Website!

I discovered that Charles Martinet has his own website! It has a charmingly simple 90s web site feel, which is always refreshing to see with what a big corporate clusterfuck so much of the internet has become.

My favorite section of the website is the voice over page. Lots of cute little character images, and a gallery of compilations of voice work Mr. Martinet has done that you can listen to. Sadly, some parts are a bit broken - the promos button brings a page with no audio buttons, though if you download the page with firefox you'll get the mp3s of the page which you can then listen to. I noticed at-least one of the voice work mixes had some audio corruption too, sadly.

Here's some of the other pages from the web site. Sadly, as you can see, the video player on all the pages doesn't seem to work anymore either. The good news is that if you download these pages via firefox, you can still find the video in their files and run it using the VLC media player!

Lastly, if you click "MORE MOVIE CLIPS - CLICK HERE" on the actor page, you get this strange and ominous page that just says "NINE MONTHS - ARNIE". You can visit the site yourself at the link below!

idk if anyone else has run into this issue, but with some older shows/movies or anything i screen record (using VLC) directly from a DVD, when i import > video frames to layers in photoshop (regardless of version or computer), the dimensions are always off. it happens with most seasons of scrubs and is happening with homicide: life on the street.

and sure, i can ctrl+t to adjust it but i'd rather just have it work correctly. i either have to always have a screenshot OR have to jot down/memorize the correct height to bring it to.

anyone have any thoughts or feelings? i don't think it's a VLC issue based on troubleshooting and i've only seen one forum where someone had the same issue in 2020, but it was never resolved.
