“No matter how bad things got, no matter the danger to themselves, we knew - we knew - the Sunspears would always be there to protect us.”

There was a twinkle to the Kournan elder’s eye, though the crackling evening fire may have something to do it with as well. The warmth had already put two of his grandchildren to sleep, curled up beneath their blankets. The third, however, remained enraptured by his words, eyes wide open as scenes of Kormir and her band of adventurers danced through her head. 

“Grandfather?”

“Yes, Awilde?”

“Do you think I could grow up to be a Sunspear?”

“PLEASE! NO!”

The figures approaching had been human, once. Wasn’t that one the smiling merchant that had sold her last night’s dinner? Behind her were mere children, ones she had seen laughing and splashing in the stream out behind the tents just the night before. Between the two stood but one very frightened girl who was a long long way from Kryta. 

Awilde raised her sword defensively, apprehensively. This wasn’t Lake Doric or the Amnoon she had arrived at, once the storms had passed and it was mere mop up duty. The storm broke right over her head, a storm not born from the madness of men but from a primal dragon itself. People she had been living aside for weeks were now torn between panicked innocents and transformed monstrosities. Lightning and cursed crystals everywhere. The very threat that she herself may be next. Timber wasn’t here. The Priory team, Ausare, Sawyer... were they one of them now?  Would she have to...

A child’s sob made the decision rather easy.

“Grandfather,” her whisper cracked as her gazed fixed on the nearest of the monsters. No more tears. Focus like her training had taught her. Concentrate. Never let herself forget that she was the greatest of all magicians, she was a mesmer.  A swing of her traveling tome and there were suddenly two Awildes standing. Another swing and there was a third. A swoop of her blade, and a fourth led the way for the others in racing towards the Branded. “Follow me,” she ordered the children, “I’ll get you out of here! I’ll- I’ll get everyone out of here!”

Any further words vanished as the dance of battle began.

@latvian-spider (Sorry for taking so long to reply, I had trouble thinking of the exact way to phrase this) Special Zones are a great way of incorporating the emeralds and their gameplay aspect into a story, and I definitely think it's a brilliant idea for someone to use. But I think I'm dead set at this point on not using the chaos emeralds as, like I said in my reply to the last question, I don't want to take away the focus of what makes Underground unique and special. I feel like awild goose chase for the emeralds would distract from the story of the resistance and the issues of the characters. Additionally, I know (roughly, admittedly) how I want the Council of Four to defeat Robotnik and I wouldn't want the power/specialness of this solution to be undermined by earlier use of the emeralds. It would all become a bit Dragon Ball/Sailor Moon then as you keep trying to one-up the special powers. But I thank you for your suggestions anyway. It really makes me happy to know that people are interested in Remixed and I always appreciate it when I get asks.
