Television actor Kavi Kumar Azad, better known for his role of Dr. Hansraj Hathi in popular sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital, reportedly.

According to Spotboye.com, the actor has been unwell for past three days and was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital at Mira Road, Mumbai. He slipped into the coma on Sunday night and this morning breathed his last.

TV Actor Kavi Kumar Azad AKA Dr Hathi Passed Away

New Delhi: TV actor Kavi Kumar Azad passed way today afternoon. The actor was best known for his role of Dr Hansraj Hathi in the popular comedy serial Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma died today after suffering a cardiac arrest.

According to the reports, Azad was unwell and was admitted at Wokhardt Hospital at Mira Road. Azad played the role of Dr Hathi for almost eight years after replacing the actor Nirmal Soni who played the role for an year when the show begined in 2009.

Azad was reportedly suffering from many ailments, including cardiac problem, hypertension and high blood sugar, but he never allowed his health problems to get in the way of his acting.The shows producer, Asit Kumar Modi told," He was an amazing actor and a very positive person. He truly loved the show and always came for the shoots, even if he was not feeling well."

He further added," He called today morning that he is not well and will not be able to come for shoot. And later we got the news that he passed away. We are all too numb to say anything."

Azad also had a small career in Bollywood during which, he acted in Bollywood movies, Mela (2000) and Fun2shh... Dudes in the 10th Century.

Kavi played the role of Dr Haathi on Taarak Mehta for nine years, having replaced actor Nirmal Soni, who played the role for a year since the show’s inception, in 2009. Apart from working on the small screen, he also featured in a few films including Aamir Khan’s Mela, Jodha Akbar and Funtoosh. “We are very sad to inform loss of our senior actor Kavi Kumar Azaad. He was playing the character of Dr Hathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma. We lost him to a massive cardiac arrest. He was an amazing actor and a very positive person. He truly Loved the show and always came for the shoot even if he was not feeling well. He called morning that he is not well and will not be able to come for shoot. The show is inspired from the famous humorous column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma' written by the eminent Gujarati writer Mr. Tarak Mehta. This story revolves around daily happenings in "Gokuldham Co-operative Society" and covers topical issues which are socially relevant. The show predominantly - revolves around 'Jethalal' (Dilip Joshi) who is an uneducated Gujarati businessman. Your 'Taarak Mehta' (Shailesh Lodha), is his neighbor. 'Jethalal' finds a friend and philosopher in 'Taarak Mehta' and often goes to him for advice whenever he is in trouble. Jethalaal's family includes his simpleton wife 'Daya Ben' (Disha Wakani) and a mischievous son 'Tapu' (Bhavya Gandhi / Raj Anadkat). Tapu is a menace and a constant source of trouble to all the members of Gokuldham. They have often warned 'Jethalal' to reform 'Tapu' or else be prepared to leave the premises. Lost hopes of being heard by his son push Jethalaal' to call his father 'Champaklal' (Amit Bhatt) from the village. This was his great idea of leashing some control over the mischievous Tapu. The opposite happens and the grandfather joins hands with the grandson to make life a roller coaster troublesome ride for Jethalal.
