lmao America's credit officially downgraded everywhere! Are we winning, MAGA? Financially fucked forever, and the Republicans are about to make the deficit even worse just to avoid taxing billionaires.
As a reminder, during what these people hold up as America's "Golden Age" --the 1950s--the rich were taxed faaaaar more than they are taxed now. (And America used the money to build infrastructure and create powerful institutions, thus further enriching the country.) And you know what? The rich still stayed rich. Didn't hurt them a bit.
But now? Mass layoffs for federal workers, broke farmers, cuts (sorry, "reforms") to Medicaid and an unusable Social Security system, high tariffs (consumer tax) on nearly everything, small businesses destroyed from that and the financial insecurity, ports slow which means shipping slow (which means more layoffs), costs of items going up means people spending less, hostile borders and the President insulting all of our allies means less tourism dollars, and oh, DHS is spending wildly with no oversight or real budget and Trump wants a big parade so he can play soldiers and a secondhand airplane that the Qatari dumped on his gullible ass and taxpayers are supposed to foot the billion dollar retrofit bill.
OH, and I forgot to mention the cuts to research programs which created jobs, especially in red states like Alabama. Too bad for Alabama I guess. Oh and no FEMA with hurricane season approaching.
And now, NOW, America as a nation no longer has reliable credit with the rest of the world.
Some are going to argue, but the stock market is up! --and forget the bond market is wobbling. And that rich people do not save the economy with their billions. They hang onto their billions. There is no trickle down.
Others will argue that the tariffs will make long-term gains! --and forget that no one is planning on bringing those industries here. In fact, some companies, like John Deere, are just moving away from the US altogether. No one has even started building factories here and even if they did, it would take years to be operational.
And if you look closely at the magic math on that Republican reconciliation bill, you will notice that in the long term, if you don't make waaaay more money per year than you think, you get no tax benefits at all. In fact, you might end up paying more long term.
B..B...But his prescription drug costs EO means those costs will go down!! --And no, they won't with it as it stands for several reasons. (EOs aren't law and the companies will challenge it. Each state and country has its own laws etc etc) But none of that matters because, if you don't have access to medical care because Republicans cut Medicaid and Medicare and your state cannot afford to continue the marketplace (*cough* red states*cough), you can't afford to see a doctor to get a prescription anyway.
But don't worry, our head of HHS just swam in sewage and believes in vitamins over medication, so I am sure things will be fine with your health.
ARE WE GREAT YET?
And look, I get on some level that a lot of aggrieved people wanted a chance to get "revenge" on their perceived enemies. But the immigrant, here legally or not, wasn't the one making your health care expensive or raising your rent. The less than ten trans college athletes weren't the ones taking your jobs overseas (to a more exploitable labor market). And doctors can suck! We all know that well! But the doctor wanting your child to be vaccinated isn't your "Big Pharma" enemy--that would actually be the pharmaceutical companies who make the prices so high in the first place.
Anyway, America is financially fucked now. But the billionaires are fine, which is all that matters, I guess.

What is the Tarnma penpals au? I've seen you mention it a couple times and am super curious about it!
Hiiii
So the Pen Pals AU is an idea that I got a couple of weeks ago. Kind of self-explanatory by the name, but the idea is it's a post-war scenario with a diplomatic ending b/t the Autobots and Decepticons. One of the many efforts to normalize relations is a pen pals program that's set up to pair Autobots with Decepticons under randomized pseudonyms. The goal is to try and create positive relationships based only on these letters and not any preconceived notions based on faction or identity. (Also it's pre-Earth which means it's pre-Delphi for Pharma, so his normal non-traumatized personality features.)
Pharma and Tarn naturally get paired up under this program, and the first part of the AU/fic (yes I'm going to write it eventually) is them basically having their pen pals relationship turn from friendship to heavily implied mutual romantic attachment. Their individual daily lives are also shown bc each of them is dealing with their own identity-related crisis: Tarn struggling with depression and addiction in the aftermath of all the things he did for the DJD and confusion over why Megatron just had them change so suddenly. Pharma with the realization that his whole life has just been defined by his accomplishments and he's lived his life in a way where he's oft-respected and admired, but never loved for who he is as a person rather than what he does.
The whole AU was originally meant to be fluffy and slice-of-life-esque (there was even an arranged marriage component in the very first conception of the idea), but as I fleshed out the setting more, I realized I wanted to actually delve deep into the implications of a post-war setting. So the Pen Pals AU has taken a darker turn recently; not darker as in fluffy romance to dead dove, but it's more like, the fluffy romance develops and then the past/war comes back to haunt Tarn and Pharma's relationship in a way that's very (re)traumatizing, both for them individually and their chances of being able to stay together as a couple.
So the fact that Tarn was in the DJD/oversaw Grindcore and did countless atrocities is very much an element of the story that's explored rather than shied away from. At first he deals with it on his own, and for a while he lives in blissful ignorance knowing that his pen pal is the one relationship he has with a "normal person" (he knows that his pen pal is a doctor, aka not a hardened soldier and criminal). Unfortunately things get complicated when his pen pal asks to meet IRL because he wants them to be more than friends, and Tarn realizes that he can't move forward with this new, blooming relationship without being honest about who he is. On Pharma's end, he has to grapple with the idea of choosing love over reputation, following his heart rather than his fear of social rejection/ostracization. Especially when the consequences of continuing to date Tarn could go from just "people judging him" to.... well, that's what me eventually writing the fic is meant to reveal. :)
TLDR: Tarn and Pharma meet as anonymous pen pals, end up having a lot of shared issues re: loneliness and isolated public personas, help each other solve their personal problems, share a mutual love of music, and fall in love, then realize who the other is. Complications ensue.

an accidental a lot of words on seroquel
just wanted to give you a words, in case you didn't already know, because so many people i know, weren't ever told. Seroquel has some like, insanely, astonishingly short, and long term dangerously degenerative effects on the body. and i want you to know im not just like, tryna scare you out of taking them. cuz A. i have narcolepsy *and* insomnia. what i wouldnt give for consistent REM sleep, so i really deeply sympathize with enjoying sleep where you can get it. and B. i just wanna make sure somebody gives you a warning.cuz it's like lifelong shit. basically, an inherent quality of Seroquel, but especially if you *ever* have to go off, or on it (a common story, is that those with prescriptions, aren't able to get their prescription refilled on time because of psychs and gatekeeping.) the withdrawal effects, (though even a slow dose decrease runs the risk), does a thing to your brain, that, *later* if you take it again, it begins to impair your motor and speech functions. like, not like you say and do things wrong, like your brain stops working in ways that facilitate speech functionality, and motor functionality. (ex: a friend will sometimes just drop objects, or be unable to stand suddenly. and they get exceedingly frustrated when they say words wrong now. like, they will just use the wrong words for sentences, where, they went years refusing to take seroquel, and once they did again, all of these things suddenly demonstrably worsened, and again this is like, frighteningly common to hear about. they were put on an insane macrodose as a minor, so not saying that's what you're on, but it's actually very much the treatment standard with seroquel) a less extreme thing is just that it makes you dissociate like an absolute motherfucker, but like, i also know a lot people take the L on that if it means they can tolerate living. anyway, i just wanted to give a heads up. i personally feel as though Seroquel is a completely unethical to prescribe, lobbyist nightmare drug, that's pushed onto doctors and medical students as a treatment standard, and mythologized as a real treatment, when in reality, it doesn't function in a human body the way it's espoused to. it's not built for treating seizures either, but demonstrably, like statistically, Seroquel is prescribed to teenagers, and the elderly, and demonstrably, in inpatient programs, to keep them drugged out of their faculties. it's like, a grim pharma nightmare drug. but again, that is my opinion, and i don't judge people who choose to take it, i just also have known so many folks who just Never Get Told, just how bad it is. and the further you, well i was gonna say *dig* into it, but it's more like Glance, into it, it's all just so very dreadful, how it harms people for life. hope you're having a tolerable, or even good if possible time of living at the moment.

Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Ten U.S. drug manufacturers have agreed to participate in the initial round of the first-ever pricing negotiations between Medicare and the nation's pharmaceutical giants, the Biden administration announced Tuesday.
The highly anticipated Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program was set to enter its next phase after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services invited the drugmakers to voluntarily join the program in August.
The move comes as President Joe Biden seeks to fulfill a campaign promise to make prescription medicines more affordable for millions of aging Americans.
The drugs on the list are among the most commonly used to treat everything from heart failure, blood clots, diabetes, arthritis, and Crohn's disease, however, average Americans often cannot afford to buy the drugs, Biden said in August when the drug cost reform effort kicked off.
Previously, the White House said the drugs are among the top 50 prescription medications that seniors fill the most at retail pharmacies under Medicare Part D.
The companies electing to participate include Bristol Myers Squibb, Boehringer Ingelheim, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Merck Sharp Dohme, AstraZeneca, Novartis, Immunex, Pharmacyclics LLC, Jannsen Biotech and Novo Nordisk.
Collectively, the companies' drugs brought in $50.5 billion from prescriptions covered under Part D between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023, with consumers paying $3.4 billion in out-of-pocket costs, according to a statement from the Department of Health and Human Services.
"Drug companies that manufacture these drugs have indicated that they will participate in negotiations with Medicare during the remainder of 2023 and in 2024, and any agreed-upon negotiated prices will become effective beginning in 2026," the statement said.
The pricing program is being funded through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which expanded Medicare's authority to negotiate out-of-pocket drug costs, including a $2 monthly cap on certain generic drugs used to treat chronic conditions, as well as a $35 price cap on insulin.
The pandemic-era legislation contains a broad range of actions to mitigate high drug prices, including a plan that adds commercial health insurers to a requirement that forces drug companies to pay rebates to Medicare whenever medicine prices rise faster than inflation.
Merck and Johnson & Johnson have filed multiple lawsuits in an effort to declare Biden's plan unconstitutional.
Biden has vowed to continue to pursue lower drug costs, arguing his pricing plan was working to help struggling Americans while the pharmaceutical industry raked in billions in record profits.
"There is no reason why Americans should be forced to pay more than any developed nation for life-saving prescriptions just to pad Big Pharma's pockets," Biden said at the time.
When the pricing negotiations conclude, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will announce the prices of the selected drugs on or before September 2024, however, the new drug prices won't go into effect until 2026.
From there, the government will select up to 15 more drugs covered under Part D for 2027, and up to 15 more drugs for 2028, including drugs covered under Part B and Part D.
The program will add up to 20 more drugs each year after that, as required by the Inflation Reduction Act.

Launch Your Career: What to Expect in Clinical SAS Training and Why It Matters
Entering the world of clinical research can feel intimidating, especially when it comes to understanding the complex data behind drug trials. But with clinical SAS training, you're not just learning software—you’re entering a field where your analytical skills can directly influence healthcare outcomes. Let’s walk through what makes this training so valuable and how it can transform your career.
1. Where Clinical SAS Fits in Clinical Research
Clinical trials are the backbone of medical innovation. Every pharmaceutical product—from pills to biologics—relies on solid data to prove safety and effectiveness. That data lives in large datasets filled with patient information, trial results, and adverse event records. SAS clinical training teaches you how to clean, analyze, and validate this data efficiently.
Unlike general analytics roles, programming in clinical research demands precision and compliance with standards like CDISC, SDTM, and ADaM. Errors or inconsistencies don’t just lead to bad results—they can delay drug approvals or jeopardize patient safety. This is why clinical SAS training emphasizes not only coding but also a deep understanding of regulatory guidelines.
2. Who Should Enroll in Clinical SAS Training
If you have a background in pharmacy, life sciences, biology, statistics, or even IT, this training can be a strategic career move. Here’s who stands to gain the most:
Life science graduates: Bring domain knowledge and add programming skills.
Statisticians: Learn tools for clinical applications.
Data analysts: Transition into a regulated industry.
Career changers: SAS clinical training provides structure and direction.
Working professionals: Upskill for roles in healthcare analytics or drug development.
Even if coding feels unfamiliar, many programs start with basics before advancing to trial-specific applications, making clinical SAS training accessible to anyone with dedication.
3. Core Modules You’ll Learn
A proper clinical SAS training program includes:
a) SAS Fundamentals
Understanding data steps, PROC steps, formats, and libraries forms the foundation.
b) Clinical Trial Essentials
Learn about drug safety, efficacy, trial phases, and case report forms (CRFs).
c) Clinical Data Standards (CDISC)
SDTM helps structure raw data; ADaM prepares analysis-ready data.
d) Reporting and Validation
Generate Tables, Listings, Figures (TLFs) and perform double-programming checks.
e) Statistical Analysis
Use procedures for summary statistics, cross-tabulation, survival analysis, etc.
f) Real-World Projects
Work on mock or anonymized datasets to simulate daily tasks—code reviews, debugging, report generation.
g) Certification Prep
Most courses prepare you for exams like Base SAS or Clinical Trials Programmer certification.
This blend ensures you’re not just trained—you’re job-ready.
4. Real-World Benefits of Clinical SAS Training
a) Growing Job Demand
Pharma companies, CROs, medical-device firms, and research institutes seek SAS-trained individuals. Your skills are particularly valuable in roles like Clinical Programmer or Statistical Analyst.
b) Competitive Salaries
SAS clinical programmers are paid well because of their niche expertise. With experience, you could move into senior roles or data leadership.
c) Career Growth
Starting from an entry-level programmer, your path could lead to Lead Programmer, Project Lead, or roles in data strategy and regulatory affairs.
d) Meaningful Impact
Your work contributes to drug approvals, patient safety analysis, and insights that can improve treatment outcomes.
5. Tips to Choose the Right Training
To maximize your investment:
Check the curriculum—ensure it covers all CDISC standards, real-world data, and report generation.
Instructor experience—trainers with real clinical SAS backgrounds add practical insights.
Hands-on projects—look for live datasets and real-world assignments.
Certification support—training aligned with official SAS exams offers an advantage.
Placement assistance—mock interviews, resume feedback, and job support can help transition into the industry.
6. Beyond Training: What Comes Next?
Once certified, focus on:
Building a strong resume with technical keywords.
Sharing project experience to demonstrate competence.
Contributing to open-source CDISC tools or trial analytics communities.
Networking via forums or meetups to stay connected.
Clinical SAS training isn’t just a certification—it’s the start of a career that blends data expertise with real-world impact.
