friends, i am begging you. look deep into my eyes. you can create things for fun. you can do things for fun. please remember how to have fun and stop looking at everything from the grindset mindset and learn to look at things from the perspective of "i can do things just to do them and i don't even have to finish or be good at them i can just do them because i think it'd be neat." i think social media has ruined something fundamental about being a person...

Question for the BJD Community
⚠️This gotten unnecessarily long so I will put the question and information under the cut to not take up a lot of the TL for people!⚠️
I had this question for a while because I’ve recently been getting into BJD’s… This might be hyper specific, for that I am sorry.
But, I recently been looking into doll’s because I’d love to make some of my favorite characters, like Squares and Marle (both Puyo Puyo characters btw), but I don’t like the semi-realistic style most dolls have.
So, I was looking into anime-style ones and haven’t had much luck on that front either…
But, also some of the characters I’d like to make a doll for are children, like Squares, and they have no official merchandise so this is one of my only few options to have something for them.
I haven’t located any child dolls that I could customize to be Squares…
I know the hobby is expensive, which is why I have only been lurking in the community and doing research — I don’t have the money to make any purchases yet, but one day I will.
But, I need help on finding the right dolls to use for the characters I wanna make. But I can provide some help.
I need a child-like doll that can easily be held in the palm of someone’s hand, I don’t know the “size” the doll would be.
I’d need two taller dolls that are not children (with a flat chest, it needs to be feminine not masculine), that can hold the child doll easily. But other dolls can be larger than them.
Cutesy eyes that come in a pink-red (maroon?), gold, and indigo-blue.
Options for wigs, I don’t know what to do there. I need light yellow-green and dark blue in specific.
And finally, two last things I need help with.
I need help/tips on how to make outfits or source good, high quality clothing for the dolls I buy.
And tips on doing face-up’s for my dolls, like what you guys recommend and all of that. I can do the face-ups myself since I can draw really well, so information about tools/equipment that’s recommended for face-ups can help as well.

BEHOLD! Garbage photos. We actually had a pretty successful run! I am very pleased with the results of the Liquitex Matte Medium alone. As suggested I used a cheap cosmetic sponge to dab the texture on. I did three layers before I was fairly satisfied, then I tried my luck on Little Enya and it was awesome! It was over an already completed paint job, though the test over raw pastel did well and it barely pulled up any color. (Using PanPastels)
This will be a regular technique from now on. I’m very, VERY curious how a whole body blush/texture would look. I scraped my nail over the tester parts pretty roughly and was impressed with how they held up.

CW: Body types mentions
You are not "pushing for inclusivity" by sharing someone's art to insult it and tear it down. Sharing art of a skinny doll and making it about how there needs to be more fat dolls is not promoting inclusivity, it is not kind, it is not polite, it is not pro-artist. It's mean and rude.
If you want to promote and push for fat dolls that's great, of course we need more body type rep. But you don't have to target other artists. You don't get to dictate what they should make, you don't get to define if their fat dolls are fat enough, or if the human behind the art is fat enough to consider themselves fat.
If you think otherwise, you really need to reflect on yourself because concealing bullying behavior behind the guise of body positivity is pathetic.

Clover being cute ft both the Clover and Henbit faceplates! (Left is clover, right is Henbit) Both are named after plants. There’s a third faceplate named Thistle, though I’m not as happy with it as of right now.
Tumblr media
Here’s a comparison of the two faces. I’m not happy with clovers faceup. It makes her face look rlly small. Though these are just quick 5 min faceups just to get a rough idea. I’m really happy w the way these two sculpts look and I’m hoping to get Clover printed in resin in the near future!

I finished my first bjd sculpt! It’s a little rough around the edges because I used way too hard of clay + has awful tension because it’s so hard to string, but I’m proud! Now to throw myself into the over-complicated second doll I’ve been thinking of all month
(id:
Image one. a hand holds a small black ball jointed doll up to the camera. It has a simple body, with only one point of articulation in each limb. It’s stomach is pear shaped and round, with chunky rectangular arms that taper out as they transition into three chunky fingers. It’s face is rectangular, with a simple eyes and smile. It has two curling antannae, and seems distinctly alien. One hand is raised in greeting
Image two. The same doll lying down in a hand, angled from above
Image three. The doll’s faceplate is removed, showing items held on by four magnets. There’s fuzzy green wires inside the head.
/end id)
