Chapter 1: Shrouded in Darkness

Preview: “I think someone might be following me?” The words come out like a question, but as he takes a right, followed by another right, weaving his way messily towards his dad’s, he amends, “Yep, definitely being followed.”

There is rustling in the background and the sound of the call changes so TK thinks Carlos must have put him on speaker. “What do you mean you’re being followed?” Carlos’ voice is calm, steady, but the undercurrent of alarm is clear. TK recognizes Carlos’ professional cop voice instantly.

“I mean I’m being followed.” TK supplies unhelpfully and a little hysterically as he once again makes several weird turns. He takes a deep breath then and answers more helpfully, “I’m driving to Dad’s, for dinner. There was a truck parked out front of the loft and it’s been following me since then.”

Chapter 2: Shadowed in Mystery Read on AO3 Here

Preview: Turns out there isn’t really anything to face. The investigation stalls when there aren’t any cameras around to capture who left the note on Nancy’s car. TK is disappointed, but he also wouldn’t want any more resources to be wasted on him when other people truly need the help. 

So he moves forward. He enjoys the game night that Nancy plans and is thoroughly distracted by the effort it takes to beat the nearly unstoppable force of Mateo and Nancy. He goes to work and continues helping people, making a difference the best way he can. Most of all he and Carlos continue to live their happily ever after uninterrupted. In fact, TK swears it’s been weeks now since he has even thought about the incidents. 

Tuesday morning rush hour after a holiday weekend definitely isn’t the time to start. They’re responding to their third accident scene in less than two hours and as TK parks the ambulance on the side of the road he scans the scene, taking note that this one looks more serious than the other two they’ve dealt with. He also takes note of every dark colored truck that he sees. Mentally cataloging the information away in the part of his mind he won’t admit exists.

Chapter 3: Shuttered in danger   Read on AO3 Here

Preview: Three days have passed since the incident and they still haven’t spoken more than a few awkward sentences to one another. Despite the serious urge to run, to get away, to leave now, TK refuses to give in to those old instincts. He calls Cooper more often than he had been, attends an extra meeting, but he still goes home to Carlos every night.

“He’s just upset.” Nancy’s words interrupt his rambling thoughts as they restock the back of the bus mid-shift. 

“I know,” TK moans, “and he has every right to be, but being upset doesn’t give him the right–” He pauses. They don’t fight often, but the few times they have, and even during their break-up, TK has always been careful about what he says to their friends. He knows at some point Carlos has felt that they were TK’s friends first and by some weird standard that makes Carlos second in the dynamic. So he has always been careful to make sure that he doesn’t say or do anything that could make that feel more like a truth, because it isn’t. He knows the 126 loves Carlos just as much as they love TK. 

“TK?” 

“Nevermind,” he replies. “It doesn’t matter. I just wish I could fix this but I know I can’t.”

“Your stalker. Turns out ... (this is from the last chapter of my BTHB:Stalking fic that will be posted later today 😉)

“Okay, can you make it to the car or do I need to call 911.” Carlos’ voice is still steady, but even in his state TK hears the fear

The loud-mouth gestures roughly to the mannequin still squawking out a warning about insufficient compression depth. “This stupid thing isn’t working.”

He took off without so much as a word to TK after they found out about the 126 being permanently shuttered and TK is angry.

TK has started picking apart the pieces of this mind that keep him from thinking he is worthy of the love that he had with Carlos
