[ anya taylor-joy, cis-female, she/her] — whoa! avery evans just stole my cab! not cool, but maybe they needed it more. they have lived in the city for three years, working as a interior designer / architect. that can’t be easy, especially at only thirty years old. some people say they can be a little bit stoic and self-indulgent, but i know them to be ambitious and candid. whatever. i guess i’ll catch the next cab. hope they like the ride back to manhattan.
a e s t h e t i c s .
gold fixtures against porcelain, warm lighting at night, sleeping with the tv on, wine glass rings on the countertop, glitter on little black dresses, writing to do lists and checking them off, waking up from an afternoon nap, the sound of high heels on pavement, taking a bath in just candlelight, working until midnight, singing loudly on an empty street at night, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the sun on your face, cigarettes on a balcony
b a s i c s .
name: avery charlotte evans
nickname(s): aves
dob: april 8th
birthplace: manhattan
zodiac: aries
sexuality: homosexual
strengths: efficient, energetic, strategic
weaknesses: stubborn, intolerant, unforgiving
personality type: entj-a - commander
parents: katherine eleanor and noah evans ( divorced )
siblings: an older brother & younger half-sister ( open )
pets: two kitties named salt & pepper
n o t e s .
tw: cheating, divorce, addiction,
a v e r y was a lively and charismatic child. always at her father's hip. to this day, he is her biggest hero. not only is he the reason she became an architect and designer, but without him, she may not have even made it to eighteen.
w h e n avery was eight years old, however, her mother had an affair resulting in pregnancy. this caused her parents to divorce and she was forced to move to long island with her mother and brother. they lived with their grandparents for the many long years that followed.
a v e r y didn't accept her mother's choices and entered a period of rebellion. as she entered her teenage years, she began to actively put herself in as many dangerous situations as she could. not limited to; stealing and selling prescription drugs, stealing valuables from friends, strangers, and businesses, running away for long periods of time, drinking, and doing drugs - all of which acquired many run in's with local law enforcement. her mother eventually stopped answering the phone calls, leaving avery to fend for herself.
a f t e r alienating all of her friends, avery was successful in pushing away her brother as well. it was him that made the call to their father and tell him to come get her. but only after they'd gotten into a physical altercation, in the front lawn of their grandparents family home. and just like everyone else, her brother had enough.
a l t h o u g h , her father did run to save the day. he did pick her up and dust her off. he's the one that got her the help that she needed, was patient with her when she fell, and was always there to catch her. she moved back to manhattan with him for a time, and when she was ready - she left the city to attend university. that's where she got her bachelors in architecture.
u n i v e r s i t y was when she truly shined. although, she did have some hiccups along the way. for the most part, she was happy to meet people who didn't already know her name. even law enforcement smiled at her when she passed by. she spent her free time discovering herself; she learned that she loves yoga and meditation, that she can handle parties in moderation, that she absolutely loves women. university is a time that she reflects on very fondly. even if she was stressed out of her mind, studying for exams.
t o d a y , she is a successful architect and interior designer. she works for her dads company and is preparing to take over when he retires. she is a true force, one that you either love or absolutely cannot stand to be around. she puts a lot of effort into her appearance, her lifestyle, and her success. those are the things that drive her the most in life.
c o n n e c t i o n s
her brother / half-sister - she has an estranged relationship with both. previously, she did grow up very close with her brother. it would be interesting to see the dynamic between the siblings now that they've grown.
friends she met in university - who would have been her ride or die's as they pushed through school together. the first friends she made after her recovery. she would hold these friends near and dear to her heart
friends she got into trouble with back in the day - who may be interested in leading her astray again. alternatively, her troublestome friends that also turned their lives around and now support one another.
enemies - possibly someone avery hurt or tormented in her youth. someone she burned a bridge with at some point who hasn't forgiven her
enemies to lovers - either no strings attached or they secretly have feelings for each other
childhood friends - going allll the way back to childhood here in manhattan, before avery's parents divorced
exes - exes on bad terms, good terms, and all the in between. there's much history to be written
anything else under the sun! i love plotting connections

okay question: so you're in school to be an architect. do you have to take like woodshop?/craftmanship? classes? like where you make physical things out of wood or metal or whatever material? is that part of it? i am asking because i did a year of art school and the industrial design majors did that, and they made all the 1st years take one of those classes too. but idk if architects do that.... actually sending this ask has made me realize that i never quite figured out what those majors were actually learning....
sorry i literally keep writing this and then scrolling to look at his forearms like an insane person. Anyway!!!
I finished university i’m not in school! i got my bachelor degree (architecture and urban planning) and i am did my masters (focused on urban planning) this year. And not really to be honest i only had one which was just model making. My university is actually more focused on architectural engineering so i’m a STEM girlie, more than an art girlie for sure. Most of my classes were focused on civil engineering and architectural planning (design and construction). So for example- we would have 6 classes per semester (sometimes more). 3 of them are studio focused so we would have projects (revitalization or starting from 0 with just site and you build ur building based on a concept or interior design project or urban planning project etc etc), one was art history and 2 were civil engineering classes (that were also split in two so basically. at least four per semester). I hope i made it semi-understandable tbh.
I was big fan of classical mechanics and all of its branches! But urban planning was my no1 love. Never liked interior design even though i got 10s. So yeah that’s how it was at my university! But every place is different and they focused of different things. I am just interested in the “boring” part of architecture like NO ONE likes urban planning i will tell you that.

Virgil Abloh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Virgil Abloh was born in Rockford, Illinois in 1980. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Madison, and further got his Masters in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). All around, Virgil surrounded himself with interests in Art, Music, Fashion, and Architecture which ultimately pushed his brand, Off-White.
Virgil launched Off-White in 2013, defining it as the “grey area between black and white as a color”. Inspired by contemporary art and youth culture, the brand has consistently pushed the boundaries of streetwear, making it extremely conceptual yet accessible at the same time.
Off-White served as an experimentation space for Virgil, with mediums pushing beyond fashion. In 2019, Virgil announced a collaboration with the Iconic IKEA brand, revealing his passion for interior design and architecture. Items included his famous text quotes, receipt rugs, and other touches of classic Virgil that we all know and appreciate.
Often named the “Karl Lagerfeld” of our generation, Virgil was a multi-tasking, creative genius that was constantly pushing the boundaries of streetwear and luxury fashion. In 2018, he was named the creative director of Louis Vuitton Menswear. Not only did this revolutionize the brand identity of LV, but more importantly changed the way that creative directors work in the luxury fashion scene. Up until his death in 2021, Abloh always remained his classic Off-White aesthetic, while simultaneously speaking to youth culture, current events, music, and diversity.
In 2019, he debuted his first menswear collection for LV, showcasing a concept around his own American dream. Paying homage to influential music artists, Virgil had Steve Lacy (shown in photo, Dev Hynes, Kid Kudi, and Playboi Carti walk in the show. This was a monumental stepping stone in Abloh’s career, foreshadowing his impact on the world of streetwear and luxury fashion.
On November 28th, 2021 Virgil passed away from a private battle with cancer. His loss was a tragedy to everyone who knew and worked with him, and continues to remind us of his impact on the world. Not only did Virgil revolutionize modern fashion, but he also reminded us of how every art form is connected. His legacy will continue to inspire young designers and creatives, all over the world.

Week 10 - Completing the Loop
Throughout the 10 weeks of doing the sketch modelling course, it has introduced me to the basis of the modelling process in the industrial design course and how significant each process is for leading towards the result for production. As the first course I have for industrial design, this course has definitely led me through each important step, from using tools and viewpoints to produce orthogonal and perspectives drawings, and from sketch drawings and models to a modified 3D model prepared for scanning. Each step has gradually introduced me to how processes are important for design production.
Within all these processes, the part that I enjoyed the most was doing sketches for the model. In my third year in Interior Architecture, I have not done many sketch drawings since the first year. The processes of drawing technical drawings by hand and also sketching models out have reminded me of my past passion for drawings and how it has led me to choose design as the major for my bachelor's or even my future career. And with the pandemic, physical modelling was not required for my previous online lessons. The foam modelling has turned out to be the hardest part for me as I don’t have much experience handling this material. But after listening to advice from my classmate and tutors, I have figured out ways such as using tools like the hot wire cutter to finalise the model. Although the final result of the physical model was not very satisfying, with the help of the modifiers on 3Ds Max, it has elevated my final work on the computer and can finally demonstrate my vision in 3D.
Even though I didn’t find making physical models very entertaining, I understand the importance of having a model that could be touched and held by hand could be one of the significant design processes. The model definitely shows how the product could be manufactured and one day become a product in real-life situations. It is a way better form to present to customers and shows what it will be like in the future.
I think this course change my view on the importance of making physical models as I thought making physical models nowadays was just a waste of time and money with the advanced 3D software we have. It has led me to the insight that we should sometimes work back to the origin and not forget the final product from design should be in the real life and designed for humans and users. The 3D software may just be tools for conceptualizing, and the physical and real world could be far more significant.
Overall, the course is well structured and is fun to work with. I am looking forward to more industrial design courses!

Interior Design Career
The technique and skill of upgrading a building's interior to provide a healthier and more visually pleasant atmosphere for those using the area is known as interior design. A person who designs, investigates, coordinates, and supervises such improvement projects is known as an interior designer.
In addition to conceptual creation, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, interacting with project stakeholders, construction management, and design execution, interior design is a diverse career.
How to Begin Your Interior Design Career
A strong portfolio is essential for many careers related to interior design because it will open doors and advance your career. Degree programmes offer a nurturing atmosphere for developing and sharpening your visual creativity, which can then assist you in building a strong portfolio that leads to your first position.
At the associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, you can study interior design, but your capacity to conceptualise and put into practise client-centred solutions still matters more than your academic credentials. However, it is generally believed that obtaining a bachelor's or master's degree will enhance your creative development. Many of the design elements you will employ throughout your career are introduced in these programmes.
Career Options in Interior Design
Work is done by interior designers in many different professions and industries. Schools therefore provide specialisations and concentrations to aid degree-seekers in narrowing their career goals to a particular field of design. In order to pick a curriculum that aligns with their interests, students should do some research on the specialisations available at various colleges. Although they give a general overview of a few popular possibilities, they do not cover the entire range.
Specialties in interior design
The term "interior design" does not always refer to the planning and designing of home interiors and other living areas. The field of interior design offers a variety of professional options, including those in the fields of furniture design, exhibition design, lighting design, kitchen design, architecture, architectural technology, product design, textile design, styling, and production design.
Interior Designer's Salary
Average annual income for entry-level interior designers is roughly 4 lakh, while experienced interior designers can make up to 30 lakh. The amount of money you make relies on a variety of things, including your degree, where you work, your experience, and the size of the business. The ability to impress the potential employer with the exposure and experience you value most is more significant than anything else.
What qualifications are necessary to work as an interior designer?
Talent for appropriate design
It goes without saying that one needs a talent for colour, space planning, architecture, and textiles to become an interior designer. A designer also collaborates with builders, architects, government organisations, and business owners, so a wide range of skills are required.
Communication abilities
Education and general well-being are prerequisites for being a great interior designer. A strong balance between interpersonal and communication skills must be developed in addition to technical skills like space design, furniture design, technical drawing, material knowledge, and familiarity with interior design tools in order to maintain a strong network with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
 Staying current Trend
The interior design industry has grown to be quite competitive. In order to succeed, one needs to draw people's attention to the design. Future trends in population expansion, senior design, modern architecture, and green design can provide you an advantage in the job market.
It's important to stay current with design trends through reading design magazines and websites, interacting with other designers, and taking advice from a mentor.

How to Become an Interior Designer: Career Paths and Opportunities
Tumblr media
Interior design is a creative and dynamic field that combines art, architecture, and business. It involves transforming spaces into functional, aesthetically pleasing environments that meet the needs and tastes of clients. If you have a passion for design and a keen eye for detail, a career in interior design might be perfect for you. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to become an interior designer, including the career paths and opportunities available in this exciting profession.
Understanding Interior Design
There is more to interior design than just room décor. To design useful areas within a structure, one must have a solid understanding of human behavior science. Interior designers must consider factors such as lighting, acoustics, temperature, and ergonomics while also selecting furniture, fabrics, colors, and materials that complement the overall design.
Educational Pathways
1. Pursue Relevant Education
The first step to becoming an interior designer is to obtain the necessary education. In interior design or a similar sector, the majority of employers demand a bachelor's degree. A thorough curriculum covering a range of interior design topics is provided by accredited programs, including:
Design principles
Computer-aided design (CAD)
Color theory
Space planning
Furniture design
Some institutions also offer associate degrees or certificates in interior design, which can be a quicker route but may limit career advancement opportunities.
2. Gain Practical Experience
While education provides the foundational knowledge, hands-on experience is crucial for honing your skills. Many programs include internships or cooperative education opportunities where students work under the supervision of experienced designers. These experiences are invaluable for building a portfolio, which is essential for showcasing your work to potential clients and employers.
3. Join Institutes or Training Centers
Joining an institute or training center dedicated to interior design can be highly beneficial. These institutions offer specialized courses, workshops, and seminars led by industry experts. They provide networking opportunities, mentorship, and access to the latest trends and technologies in interior design. Strong industry ties that training facilities frequently possess could be helpful in obtaining internships and job placements.
Certification and Licensing
4. Obtain Certification
Certification enhances your credibility and demonstrates your commitment to the profession. In many regions, certification is required to practice as an interior designer. In North America, one of the most prestigious qualifications is obtained through the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) test. To be eligible, candidates must meet education and work experience requirements.
5. State Licensing
Some states require interior designers to be licensed. Licensing requirements vary but typically include passing the NCIDQ exam. It’s important to research the specific requirements in your state or country to ensure compliance.
Building a Portfolio
6. Develop a Strong Portfolio
A well-curated portfolio is one of the most critical tools for an interior designer. It showcases your design style, skills, and versatility. Include a variety of projects that demonstrate your ability to work with different spaces, styles, and budgets. High-quality photographs, detailed sketches, and CAD drawings can all be part of your portfolio.
Career Paths and Opportunities
7. Work in Design Firms
Many interior designers work for design businesses as their first employers. Working in a firm allows you to gain experience, collaborate with other designers, and learn about the business aspects of the profession. Design firms can range from small boutiques to large corporations, offering various opportunities for specialization and advancement.
8. Specialize in a Niche
There are several specializations available in interior design, so you can concentrate on the things that most interest you. Some popular niches include:
Residential Design: Creating functional and aesthetic living spaces.
Commercial Design: Designing spaces for businesses such as offices, restaurants, and retail stores.
Hospitality Design: Focusing on hotels, resorts, and other hospitality venues.
Healthcare Design: Designing medical facilities that promote healing and efficiency.
Sustainable Design: Using eco-friendly materials and practices to create environmentally responsible spaces.
9. Freelance or Start Your Own Business
For those who prefer flexibility and independence, freelancing or starting your own interior design business can be an attractive option. This path allows you to choose your projects, set your rates, and build your brand. However, it also requires strong business acumen, marketing skills, and the ability to manage all aspects of a design project.
10. Work in Related Fields
Interior designers can also find opportunities in related fields such as:
Real Estate: Staging homes for sale to appeal to potential buyers.
Furniture Design: Creating custom furniture pieces.
Set Design: Designing sets for movies, TV shows, and theater productions.
Consulting: Offering expert advice on design projects.
Conclusion
A career in interior design is both rewarding and challenging, offering numerous paths and opportunities for creative expression and professional growth. By pursuing the right education, gaining practical experience, joining institutes or training centers, obtaining necessary certifications, and continuously building your portfolio, you can establish yourself as a successful interior designer. Whether you choose to work in a design firm, specialize in a niche, or start your own business, the possibilities in this vibrant field are endless. Embrace your creativity, stay updated with industry trends, and let your passion for design guide you to a fulfilling career.
