Tickets are already sold out by the looks of it. Still, good on Tom Morello and his really cool comrades in sound for doing this.

Nirvana Members Reunited for Fire Aid
Among the many great live performances (i.e. Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Crowes, Green Day to name a few) at the Fire Aid benefit concerts last night, the big news was the surprise Nirvana reunion.
This is not the first time bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and rhythm guitarist Pat Smear reunited since singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain's passing in 1994. In 2012, the 3 performed with Sir Paul McCartney for the original song “Cut Me Some Slack” from Grohl’s documentary Sound City. In 2016, the three performed with Beck at a Grammy pre-party to cover David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World”, which Nirvana covered on their MTV Unplugged. In 2018, when Novoselic’s band Giants in the Trees opened Foo Fighters in Seattle, they covered Molly’s Lips”, a Vascelines song that Nirvana famously covered. Also in 2018, they performed 6 songs at the 2018 Cal Jam festival with Joan Jett and Deer Trick's John J. McCauley on vocal duties. In 2020 they performed at the Art of Elysium fundraiser with Dave's daughter Violet Grohl doing vocals along with on "Heart Shaped Box" and St. Vincent and Beck doing the other songs.
But prior to Cal Jam, the only Nirvana reunion in which they covered original Nirvana songs was at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, when they were inducted. At that ceremony, they performed with guest singers Lorde, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon and Joan Jett. Having a rotation of female singers seemed like the only possible way to honor Cobain. Later that night, they performed at a Brooklyn club with St. Vincent, Gordon, Jett as well as J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and John McCauley of Deer Tick. (Rumor has it, they filmed that show and if so I hope it gets released some day).
Which brings us to the Fire Aid performance. The band did "Breed" with St. Vincent, "School" with Kim Gordon, "Territorial Pissings" with Joan Jett, and "All Apologies" with Violet Grohl, which featured Novoselic on accordion and Gordon on bass. It was kind of touching in a way to see band members coming together to play the music of the late Cobain with Grohl drumming and his daughter singing.
The video above is the 15 minute video of their set.
