Since they use very similar water purification processes (the G3 just has a couple more treatment stages), the filters should both be capable of reducing the majority of drinking water impurities. 🚦 Performance Comparison Waterdrop D6 The Waterdrop D6 has some unique performance, benefits, and a few setbacks, when compared to the G3. The biggest performance benefit of the D6 is that it has a faster flow rate than the G3, so you can fill a glass of filtered water around 4 seconds faster. Another performance benefit of the D6 is that its pure-to-wastewater ratio is better than the G3's, so you'll waste less water in the process of producing pure water. The system has a 2:1 efficiency ratio, meaning that only 1 gallon of water is wasted for every 2 gallons of water purified - much better than the 1:4 efficiency ratio of traditional reverse osmosis systems. The D6 combines six thorough stages of reverse osmosis within a single filter cartridge, and you can rely on the unit to deliver quality pure water that's free from virtually all TDS thanks to the system's 0.0001-micron membrane pore size. Handily, you can get an instant insight into the D6's performance at any time because it comes with a smart faucet that shows a TDS reading of your filtered water. If the TDS level starts creeping up, it's a sign that the filters or RO membrane may need replacing. Plus, the system maintains its performance by occasionally flushing the filters, removing trapped contaminants and extending the filter lifespans. Onto the negatives: As far as we can tell, the D6 doesn't have an NSF certification, so there's no third-party proof to support the company's performance claims. Waterdrop G3 The Waterdrop G3 has its own unique performance benefits and setbacks. The G3's biggest benefit is that filtration is split into three cartridges. While this means that you'll need to spend more money on maintenance, it also means that each filter layer has more space - and a larger surface area - to trap contaminants, helping to remove as many impurities as possible from your water. The G3 has an efficiency ratio of 1:1, meaning that 1 gallon of water is wasted for every 1 gallon of purified water produced. This is great compared to the traditional RO system's 1:4 pure-to-waste water ratio, but it's not quite as efficient as the D6's 1:1 ratio. As for flow rate, the G3 offers a respectable 400 gallons per day. Again, this is plenty fast enough for most people (you can fill a cup in about 12 seconds), but it still doesn't quite match up to the D6's 600 GPD flow rate. Like the D6, the G3 has a smart designer faucet that shows you how much TDS is in your purified water, so you get visual proof of the system's performance and don't have to guess when filter changes are needed. Handily, there's only one filter in the unit that needs to be replaced, so you can spend less money per year on a single replacement filter. You'll only need to replace the filter when the faucet screen tells you to. The cost of a replacement filter (at the time of writing) is just over $100, meaning you'll spend roughly $100 per year on maintenance for this system - not bad at all. Waterdrop G3 The Waterdrop G3 has three filter cartridges, each with their own lifespans: - The CF filter has a 6-month lifespan - The CB filter lasts up to 1 year - The RO membrane has a filter life of 2 years The cost of replacement filters for the G3 is higher because there are more filters to replace. Everybody has contributed equally to pollution to flourish from littering garbage to polluting rivers. Therefore In return everybody should contribute in normalising the air pollution scam.
And, also, In lieu of the prevailing circumstances The government has to back its Strategies for ranging pollution level which is casting the life of its citizen. What could be more shameful for a country for 9 out of ten Indian states are in the list of worlds most polluted cities .
The current situation made me wonder – how about adding ‘the clean air’ quotient in psychological need of the maslow need hierarchy theory? He would have if he was alive , I guess.

Is the Transaction Over at the Cashier?

When I knew the topic of this assignment was a two-week consumption journal, I got a mixed feeling. For me it could be a very easy task, because there would be fewer records in my journal and most of consumption is almost completely life necessity. But seen from another side, it is also a difficult task since there is so little for me to say due to the less and simplified consumption. So in case my readers might be bored by my repeated routines of life, I would not make this journal day by day. Instead, I will use two charts to illustrate my consumption patterns.

Let’s look at the pie chart below.
As reflected in the graph, there are mainly four types of consumption, among which food occupied the largest proportion, more than a half. As for the other three categories of goods, I spent similar amount of money.
Then move to another line chart.
Here we can find some other features about my consumption. First, what I bought most frequently is beverage, or more precisely, coffee or coke. But what cost me most was food, which constituted the two peaks of spending over the 14-day span. Apparently, food is the most important consumption for nearly anyone regardless of place or time.

Actually, I had not cooked before coming to Canada. Anyway, now I manage to feed myself. By the way, my favorite food in Sherbrooke is the MAIZE ! (weird taste.Yep, I know.)

Then let’s go back to my reflection.
what do we consumers take into account when choosing what food to buy or not? For me, I will consider factors including convenience to prepare, price, health, flavor, and eco-friendliness as well. Based on these criteria of selection, look at what I bought in Super C on October 31. The receipt consisted of three frozen pizzas, a package of coke, bread and only a few of fresh vegetables and fruit.
Now I would like to describe the little angel-devil conversation when I thought about whether I should buy the coke. The angel told me “don't buy it. It will make you gain weight due to too much sugar. Also, it is harmful to the environment since we’ve already known it is not an ethical practice to buy beverage packaged in plastic bottle.” Yes, that really made sense. But another voice came to me “You need the caffeine in coke! Think about the deadline of assignments.” Finally, another fact made me surrender: the coke was on a big sale, much cheaper than it used to be. Well, I made a purchase decision both less beneficial to myself and to the ecology just for several dollars! (Sigh here)

However, many consumers will make the similar choice as I did. When we compare two products or brands, price must be a crucial factor that we always take into account. But unfortunately, we often ignore a fact that the amount of money written on the price tag is far from the full price of the products. Take the coke I bought as an example. On the price tag, it cost me only $2.77 for six bottles of 700 ml, which is really a big bargain. But when I googled it, I found there are much more “externalized price” that I have to pay in the long term, whether in cash or not (Nestle, 2011).
Initially, during the production process of coke, substantial water is used. I even read an article that accused Coca Cola of causing the lack of water in one area (Anonymous, 2007). Another fact I didn't know before is that “Coke is produced by heating coal at high temperature. The coke is then shipped to other manufacturers for use as fuel and as an additive in the steel-making industry. Harmful byproduct emissions from coke production include benzene, toluene, xylene, ammonia, naphthalene and tar vapors” (Anonymous,2013).

All of these chemicals degrade the air we breathe and also contribute to the global warming. Besides jeopardizing the atmosphere, these toxic chemicals are likely to contaminate the water source and soil. Another problem people complain about coke or other bottled drink is their ways of package. Generally, a coke will be packaged in a plastic bottle. This material is undeniably harmful to our entire ecology including the soil, the air, and the water source. As mentioned in an article, “The Coca-Cola Company produced more than 100bn plastic bottles in 2016, … Separately it has been estimated that, on current trends, by 2050 the plastic in our oceans may weigh more than all the fish.”(Elmore, 2017)

Having seen the complete picture, I realize that to buy the six-bottled coke, I not only pay $2.77 over the counter. Also, I have to pay for all the externalized prices. But how and where does the hidden payment take place?
First, I pay by tax. As we all know, the government has to do something to cope with the environmental problems related to the production and consumption of coke or any other goods. Taking actions needs money and part of it comes from the taxpayers. Secondly, I pay by breathing the air with degraded quality, by drinking the water that may have the risk of being polluted, by absorbing some chemicals that are caused by the byproducts of coke production. This cost is far beyond my affordability.
Still, I made a less wise choice by prioritizing the short-term benefits over the long-term ones. I think I am not alone. Many consumers will make this option. Then what should be done? Am I supposed to be criticized for not being ethical consumer and for being part of the culprits of the pollution of environment?
Many other better options are available.
The first one is to educate consumers and let them know what is actually consumed when they make their consumption. So if permitted, they will try to make a better choice.

As for me, I will try to reduce the frequency of buying coke or other bottled water, although I cannot, at least for now, quit them completely. But I would still call it a progress because I do believe the improvement in consumers’ awareness is a gradual and dynamic process.
The next step seems more crucial to me, which is to endeavor to internalize the “externalized price”. Based on the articles I read , I assume this kind of internalization is to make the prices, whether in or out of the transaction, of goods explicit to consumers.
Then comes another question: who will pay for the extra hidden cost?
From my perspective, it is the responsibility of manufacturers who are related with the pollution and exhaustion. Laws and regulations can be made to require them to pay for money spent on recovering the ecology.
Additionally, consumers can also take their own liability. For example, as can be seen from my receipt, I paid 0.30 for the disposal and recycling of the plastic bottles of the coke, which even made me feel a little less guilty. It seems that I gave a hand for dealing with the mess I participated in producing.

The Brita Elite Filter is much better in this category, with a 150-gallon or 6-month lifespan. However, we do have to question how such a small filter cartridge can last this long. What happens when contaminants accumulate on the filter cartridge? We don't know how Brita has been able to address the issue of diminishing water flow in its Elite filters while still providing thorough contaminant removal. Waterdrop One of Waterdrop's main selling points is that it has a faster flow rate than other water filter pitchers - around 0.5 GPM. Apparently, it takes just 1 minute to filter an entire pitcher full of water, which is pretty impressive. Of course, speed isn't everything, since if water is traveling through the filter at a faster rate, it has less contact time with the media, and fewer opportunities for contaminant removal. Waterdrop is vague about its filter's performance testing on its website, simply stating that the pitcher filter is NSF certified. We did some digging and found an eBay listing for replacement Waterdrop pitcher filters that says they're NSF 42 certified to reduce chlorine, taste and odor, as well as being NSF 372 certified for lead-free material. So, a good sign. As for filter capacity, the Waterdrop filter excels again, with a 200-gallon capacity that Waterdrop estimates to equate to around 3 months. You can see that these gallon-to-month estimates for each brand don't add up - Brita's Elite only has a 150-gallon capacity but supposedly lasts up to 6 months. The reason is that different manufacturers base their filter lifespan estimates on tests with different water sources/qualities and different expected daily use volumes. 💲Water Filter Pitcher Models & Upfront Cost Brita Models Brita sells a range of water filter pitcher models, with 10 designs to choose from. You can buy pitchers in different shapes and sizes, with various lid colors to choose from. Most pitchers have a 6-cup capacity or a 10-cup capacity, apart from the Cascade Stream Water Pitcher, which has a 12-cup capacity. Some pitchers come with the Standard Brita Filter, while others come with the Elite. Most pitchers are compatible with the Standard and Elite filters for convenience. So if you can see yourself using your Brita pitcher as a water filter solution for at least a year, and you can afford to spend more money upfront, buy a multipack of filters. Not as popular as Brita While Brita is known for its water filter pitchers, Waterdrop is better known for its under-sink RO water filtration systems. We think that's where the manufacturer really excels, while its pitcher filters could be improved. Not as many options You only get one filter in the Waterdrop pitcher, and there are currently only three models to choose from. If you love choice, you might feel that Waterdrop doesn't offer you enough. ❔ Should I Buy Brita or Waterdrop? Although Brita and Waterdrop both sell perfectly good water filter pitchers, we wouldn't necessarily recommend buying any of them. Why? Because there are other brands that sell pitcher filters that remove many, many more contaminants than either of these pitchers can remove. Based on our research, the best water filter pitcher is the Clearly Filtered Water Filter Pitcher, which has been tested to remove more than 360 contaminants (including PFAs, fluoride, volatile organic compounds, and more), and has test data to prove it. Why buy a pitcher that reduces only a handful of contaminants when you could buy one that protects you from hundreds more? Don't rule Waterdrop out entirely as a brand.
