PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH TERROR OF DEMONS
Tumblr media
Saint Joseph Terror of Demons, cast your solemn gaze upon the devil and all his minions, and protect us with your mighty staff. You fled through the night to avoid the devil’s wicked designs; now with the power of God smite the demons as they flee from you! Grant special protection, we pray, for children, fathers, families, and the dying. By God’s grace, no demon dares approach while you are near, so we beg you, always be near to us! Amen. (Consecration to St. Joseph, The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald H. Calloway)
“The fatherhood of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The humility of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The charity of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The poverty of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The purity of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The obedience of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The silence of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The suffering of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The prayer of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The name of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil. The sleep of St. Joseph terrorizes the devil.” ~ Blessed Bartolo Longo (Consecration to St. Joseph, The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald H. Calloway)
“It is a great blessing for souls to be under the protection of the saint whose name makes demons tremble and flee.” ~ Blessed Bartolo Longo (Consecration to St. Joseph, The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald H. Calloway)

________
Novena
The word Novena derives it name from the Latin word “novem” meaning “nine.” A novena can be either a private or public devotion in the Catholic Church to obtain special graces.
Novena to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii
Among the numerous texts and prayers written by Blessed Bartolo Longo, there is the “Novena of Petition”, composed in July of 1879. Having been struck down with typhoid fever, Bartolo Longo wrote it in order to ask for graces in the most desperate cases. Every day he went before the Picture of the Virgin of the Rosary to be inspired and to do some corrections. But one day, owing to a serious worsening of his illness, he taught that the only remedy was to take the Picture of the Virgin from the Chapel and place it in his bedroom. Turning to Saint Catherine of Siena so that she would intercede in his favour with Our Lady, he suddenly recovered. Since then, the Heavenly Mother has been granting graces to anyone who prays to Her with the Novena written by Her most profound devotee. In 1894, at Arpino (Italy), Saint Catherine of Siena, represented at the feet of the Virgin in the Pompeiian Icon, appeared to a dying young girl and invited her to recite the Novena and to pray it together with her. At the end of the prayer the young girl was perfectly cured. The Novena, was approved by Pope Leo XIII on November 29th, 1887.
Among the many persons prodigiously cured by Our Lady of Pompeii, there is also the Commendatore Agrelli’s daughter of Naples, to whom Our Lady appeared personally in 1884 and told her: “Whenever you wish to obtain graces from me, make three Novenas of Petition and at the same time recite the fifteen decades of my Rosary and then three Novenas of Thanks”. The young Fortunatina Agrelli made according to the Virgin’s indications and was miraculously cured.
The Novena consists of 15 decades of the Rosary each day for twenty-seven days in petition; then immediately 15 decades each day for twenty-seven days in thanksgiving, whether or not the request has been granted. This is a 54 days novena.
________
Text of the Novena of Petition to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii
O Saint Catherine of Siena, my Protectress and Teacher, who from heaven assist your devotees as they recite Mary's Rosary, come to my aid in this moment and deign to recite along with me the Novena to the Queen of the Rosary who has established the throne of her graces in the Valley of Pompeii, that through your intercession I may obtain the grace I desire. Amen.
V. O God, come to my aid.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, etc. [Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.]
I. O Immaculate Virgin and Queen of the Holy Rosary, in these times of dead faith and triumphant impiety you have desired to establish your throne of Queen and Mother in the ancient land of Pompeii, the resting place of deceased pagans. From this place in which idols and demons were worshipped, you today, as the Mother of divine grace, shower the treasures of heavenly mercy far and wide. O Mary, from this throne upon which you graciously reign, turn upon me as well your benign eyes, and have mercy on me who am so greatly in need of your help. Show yourself to me, just as you have shown yourself to so many others, as the true Mother of mercy: while I with all my heart greet you, and invoke you as my Sovereign and Queen of the Holy Rosary.
Hail, Holy Queen... [Hail, holy queen, mother of mercy! Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.]
II. Prostrated before your throne, O great and glorious Lady, my soul venerates you amidst the groans and sighs which afflict it beyond measure. In this state of anguish and affliction in which I find myself, I confidently lift up my eyes to you, who have deigned to choose the land of poor and abandoned peasants as your dwelling-place. And there, before the city and amphitheater where there reign silence and ruin, you, the Queen of Victories, have raised your powerful voice to call from every part of Italy and the Catholic world your devoted sons and daughters, to build a Temple to you. May you now be moved to pity for this soul of mine that lies here humiliated in the mud. Have mercy on me, O my Lady, have mercy on me who am overwhelmingly covered in misery and humiliation. You, who are the extermination of demons, defend me from these enemies besieging me. You, who are the Help of Christians, deliver me from these tribulations which wretchedly oppress me. You, who are our Life, triumph over death which threatens my soul in these dangers to which it is exposed; grant to me peace, serenity, love and health. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen...
III. The knowledge that so many have been helped by you, solely because they turned to you with faith, gives me new strength and courage to call upon you in my needs. You once promised St. Dominic that those wishing graces shall receive them through your Rosary. Now I, your Rosary in my hands, dare to remind you, O Mother, of your holy promises. Indeed, you yourself work endless miracles in our times in order to call your children to honor you in the Temple of Pompeii. You therefore long to wipe away our tears, you yearn to relieve our pain! Then I, with my heart bared and with burning faith, call upon you and invoke you: My Mother!... Dear Mother!... Beautiful Mother!... Most Sweet Mother, come to my aid! Mother and Queen of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii, delay no longer in stretching your powerful hand out to me, to save me: for you see, delay would be my ruin.
Hail, Holy Queen...
IV. And to whom else might I go, if not to you who are the Solace of the wretched, the Comforter of the forsaken, the Consolation of the afflicted? I confess to you, my soul is miserable: weighed down by enormous faults, it deserves to burn in hell, unworthy of receiving graces! But are you not the Hope of those who despair, the Mother of Jesus the only mediator between God and humanity, our powerful Advocate by the throne of the Almighty, the Refuge of sinners? Then, only say a word on my behalf to your Son, and He shall hear you. Ask of him, O Mother, this grace which I am so greatly in need of. (Here express the grace you desire.) You alone can obtain it for me: you who are my only hope, my consolation, my sweetness, my whole life. So I hope. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen...
V. O Virgin and Queen of the Holy Rosary, you who are the Daughter of our Heavenly Father, the Mother of the divine Son, the Bride of the Holy Spirit; you who can obtain everything from the Blessed Trinity: I beseech you, seek this grace so necessary for me, provided that it be not an obstacle to my eternal salvation. (Here repeat the grace you desire.) I ask this of you through your Immaculate Conception, your divine Maternity, your joys, your sorrows, your triumphs. I ask it of you through the Heart of your loving Jesus, through those nine months you bore him in your womb, through the hardships of his life, his bitter passion, his death on the cross, his most holy Name and his most precious Blood. Finally, I ask it of you through your sweetest Heart: in your glorious Name, O Mary, who are the Star of the sea, Our Powerful Lady, the Sea of sorrow, the Gate of Heaven and the Mother of every grace. In you I place my trust and my every hope; save me, I pray. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen...
V. Queen of the Holy Rosary, pray for us
R. That we may become worthy of Christ's promises.
Prayer - O God, by his life, death and resurrection your Only Begotten Son obtained for us the fruits of eternal salvation: grant, we beseech you, that by venerating these mysteries of the Virgin Mary's Holy Rosary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
PRAYERS TO ST. DOMINIC AND TO ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA TO OBTAIN
GRACES FROM THE BLESSED VIRGIN OF POMPEII
O holy priest of God and glorious Patriarch, Saint Dominic, who were the friend, the beloved son and the confidant of our heavenly Queen, and who worked many miracles through the power of the Holy Rosary; and you, Saint Catherine of Siena, the leading daughter of this Order of the Rosary and a powerful mediator by the throne of Mary and the Heart of Jesus, with whom you exchanged hearts: O my dear holy Saints, consider my needs and pity the state I find myself in. On earth you possessed a heart open to all the miseries of others, and a hand powerful enough to take care of them. And now, in Heaven, neither your charity nor you power has been lessened.
On my behalf then, pray to our Mother of the Rosary and to her Divine Son, for I have great faith that through you I shall obtain the grace I ardently desire. Amen.
Three Glory be to the Father...
Text of the Novena of Thanks to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii
V. O God, come to my aid.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
I.
Here am I at your feet, O Immaculate Mother of Jesus, who delight in being invoked as Queen of the Rosary of the Valley of Pompeii. Rejoicing in my heart, my soul overwhelmed by the most ardent gratitude, I return to you, my generous Benefactress, my sweet Lady, the Queen of my heart, to you who have truly shown yourself as my Mother who so dearly loves me. In my laments you heard me, in my afflictions you comforted me, in my anguish you gave me peace. Sorrows and the pains of death were besieging my heart, and you, O Mother, from your throne in Pompeii, by your compassionate gaze, offered me relief. Who has ever turned to you with confidence and has not been heard? If all the world only knew how good you are, how compassionate with those who suffer, all creatures would turn to you. May you for ever be blessed, O Sovereign Virgin of Pompeii, by me and by everyone, by humanity and by the Angels, by Heaven and by earth. Amen
Glory be to the Father...
Hail, Holy Queen..
II.
I offer thanks to God and to you, O divine Mother, for the new favors that have been granted to me through your compassion and mercy. What would have become of me, had you turned your back on my groans and my tears? May the Angels of paradise and the choirs of Apostles, Martyrs, Virgins and Confessors thank you for me. May all the souls of sinners saved by you, who now enjoy the vision of your immortal beauty in heaven, thank you for me. I wish all creatures to join me in loving you, and that all the world repeat the echo of my thanks. What have I to offer you, O Queen, rich in mercy and magnificence? What remains of my life I dedicate to you, and to the propagating of your cult everywhere, O Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii, through whose invocation the grace of the Lord has visited me. I shall promote the devotion of your Rosary; I shall tell everyone of the mercy you have obtained for me; I shall always proclaim your goodness towards me, so that others as well, unworthy as I and sinners, may turn to you with confidence.
Glory be to the Father...
Hail, Holy Queen...
III.
By what names shall I call you, O snow white dove of peace? By what titles shall I invoke you, whom the holy Doctors called Our Lady of creation, Gate of life, Temple of God, Royal Palace of light, Glory of the heavens, Holy among the Holy, Miracle of miracles, Paradise of the Most High? You are the Treasurer of graces, the Almighty of supplication, indeed, the very Mercy of God which descends upon the unfortunate. Yet I know that your heart takes pleasure also in being invoked as the Queen of the Rosary of the Valley of Pompeii. And when invoking you in this manner, I hear the sweetness of your mystical Name, O Rose of Paradise, transplanted in the Valley of tears to relieve the sorrows of us banished children of Eve; red Rose of charity, more fragrant than all the perfumes of Lebanon, drawing the hearts of sinners to the Heart of God in your Valley by the fragrance of your heavenly sweetness. You are the Rose of everlasting freshness who, nourished by the streams of heavenly waters, planted your roots in soil scorched by a shower of fire; a Rose of unblemished beauty, who planted the Garden of the Lord's delights in a land of desolation. May God be exalted, who made your name so wondrous. Bless, O nations, the Name of the Virgin of Pompeii, for all the earth is full of her mercy.
Glory be to the Father...
Hail, Holy Queen...
IV.
In the midst of the storms raging about me I lifted my eyes to you, new Star of hope that appeared in our times over the Valley of ruins. From the depths of sorrow I raised my voice to you, O Queen of the Rosary of Pompeii, and I experienced the power of this title so dear to you. Hail, I shall always cry, Hail O Mother of mercy, immense sea of grace, ocean of kindness and compassion! Who shall worthily sing the glories of your Rosary, the victories of your Crown? The world has freed itself of Jesus' arms to become abandoned in those of Satan, yet you make ready to restore it to health in that Valley where Satan devours souls. Triumphant you rode over the ruins of the pagan temples, and upon the decay of idolatry placed the footstool of your rule. You transformed a region of death into a Valley of resurrection and life, and upon the land ruled over by your enemy you established a City of refuge, where you welcome the nations unto their salvation. Behold your children, spread throughout the world, who raised a throne to you in this place, as a testimonial of your miracles, as a trophy of your mercies. From this throne you have called me also, among your chosen children: upon me a sinner your merciful gaze has rested. May your works be everlastingly blessed, my Lady: and blessed be all the miracles worked by You in this valley of desolation and ruin.
Glory be to the Father...
Hail, Holy Queen...
V.
May every tongue resound with your glory, O Mary; may the evening hand on to the following day be the harmony of our blessings. Let every generation proclaim you blessed, and let all the regions of the earth and the heavenly choirs repeat, blessed are you. I too shall call you three times blessed with the Angels, the Archangels and the Principalities; three times blessed with the angelic Powers, the Virtues of the heavens and the celestial Dominations. I shall proclaim you most Blessed with the Thrones, the Cherubim and the Seraphim. O my Sovereign Rescuer, may you never turn your merciful gaze away from this family, this nation, the entire Church. Especially, do not deny me the greatest of graces: that I never become separated from you through my weakness. Let me persevere until my last breath in the faith and love with which my soul in this moment burns. And grant that all of us who contribute to the maintenance of your Shrine in Pompeii, and to the building-up of its charitable works, be included in the number of the chosen. O Holy Rosary of my Mother, I press you tightly to my bosom and kiss you with veneration.
(Here kiss your rosary.)
You are the way leading to every virtue, the treasure of merits for paradise, the pledge of my predestination, the strong chains binding the enemy, the source of peace for those who honor you throughout life, the promise of victory for those kissing you at the point of death. In that last hour I await you, O Mother. Your appearing will be the sign of my salvation; your Rosary shall open before me the gates of Heaven. Amen
Glory be to the Father...
Hail, Holy Queen...
V. Queen of the Holy Rosary, pray for us.
R. That we may become worthy of the promises of Christ
Prayer - O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who taught us to turn to you with confidence and call you: Our Father, who art in heaven; O gracious Lord, ever merciful and forgiving: through the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, hear us who take delight in being called children of the Rosary. Accept our humble thanks for the gifts we have received; and daily render the throne you have established in the Shrine of Pompeii more glorious and lasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen

Thought for the Day – 5 October – The Memorial of Blessed Bartholomew Longo – Apostle of the Holy Rosary
Before entering the Shrine to recite the Holy Rosary with you, I paused briefly before the tomb of Bl Bartolo Longo and, praying, I asked myself:  “Where did this great apostle of Mary find the energy and perseverance he needed to bring such an impressive work, now known across the world, to completion? Was it not in the Rosary, which he accepted as a true gift from Our Lady’s Heart?”   Yes, that truly was how it happened!   The experience of the Saints bears witness to it:  this popular Marian prayer is a precious spiritual means to grow in intimacy with Jesus and to learn at the school of the Blessed Virgin always to fulfil the divine will.   It is contemplation of the mysteries of Christ in spiritual union with Mary as the Servant of God Paul VI stressed in his Apostolic Exhortation Marialis cultus (n. 46) and as my venerable Predecessor John Paul II abundantly illustrated in his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae that today I once again present in spirit to the Community of Pompeii and to each one of you.   You who live and work here in Pompeii, especially you, dear priests, men and women religious and lay people involved in this unique portion of the Church, are all called to make Bl. Bartolo Longo’s charism your own and to become, to the extent and in the way that God grants to each one, authentic apostles of the Rosary.
To be apostles of the Rosary, however, it is necessary to experience personally the beauty and depth of this prayer which is simple and accessible to everyone.   It is first of all necessary to let the Blessed Virgin take one by the hand to contemplate the Face of Christ:  a joyful, luminous, sorrowful and glorious Face.   Those who, like Mary and with her, cherish and ponder the mysteries of Jesus assiduously, increasingly assimilate his sentiments and are conformed to him.   In this regard, I would like to quote a beautiful thought of Bl Bartolo Longo:  “Just as two friends, frequently in each other’s company, tend to develop similar habits”, he wrote, “so too, by holding familiar converse with Jesus and the Blessed Virgin, by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary and by living the same life in Holy Communion, we can become, to the extent of our lowliness, similar to them and can learn from these supreme models a life of humility, poverty, hiddenness, patience and perfection” (I Quindici Sabati del Santissimo Rosario, 27th edition, Pompeii, 1916, p. 27: cited in Rosarium Virginis Mariae, n. 15).   POPE BENEDICT XVI – 19 October 2008

5 October Optional Memorial of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, Priest How many Christians weep over temporal misfortunes, and yet are insensible to the loss of their immortal souls! They avoid going near a corpse, and yet delight daily in the company of sinners. - Saint Anthony of Padua Every time you hear the clock strike, remember that you are not master of the coming hour, and think at the same time of all that our Saviour endured in order that you might possess eternal life. - Saint Joseph Labre Blessed Bartholomew Longo Also known as • Bartolo Longo • Bartolomea Longo • Bartolomeo Longo di Latiano • Brother Rosary • Fratel Rosario • Herald of the Blessed Virgin Mary's Rosary • Man of Mary Profile Son of a physician, Longo was born financially well off, and received a good education, both secular and Christian, and attended a Piarist school until age sixteen. Raised in a pious family; they prayed the Rosary together each night. An excellent student, Barolo was skilled in literature, oratory, fencing, dancing, music, and other arts, could play flute and piano, directed a school band; was also known to be restless, and had difficulty sitting through classes. Studied law at the University of Naples where received his degree in 1864, but where he fell into a dissolute and worldly life. Following a philosophy class taught by a fallen-away priest, Longo moved from indifference to the Church to ridicule, to open hostility. He participated in street demonstrations against the Pope, then dabbled in occult nonsense like magnetism and spiritism, tipping tables and contacting the spirit world through mediums. Burning his bridges, he finally became a Satanist, and with some further study, a Satanist priest. Bartholomew's family and friends refused to give up on the young man, praying for his return to the faith, and pecking away at his interest in Satan. Vincente Pepe, a respected professor from his home town, convinced him to turn from the occult, and a Dominican friar named Father Albert guided him through his return to the Church in a process we would today call deprogramming. Longo finally recovered his senses and his faith, and became a Dominican tertiary on 25 March 1871, taking the name Fratel Rosario (Brother Rosary). Bartholomew wanted to do something to make amends for his apostasy, and began preaching against the occult in the places where college students frequented. Father Albert helped him join a group of local lay people working for the poor. Seeing the terrible, grinding poverty that was the lot of most, he wanted to do something to help, and had a sudden inspiration that the Rosary would become the key. He established a shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary in the valley of Pompei and used a discarded painting of Mary under that title as its visual. Pilgrims came, miracles occurred, the crowds grew, and the local bishop asked Bartholomew to construct a new church. Work on the church began in 1876, it was dedicated in 1887, given to the papacy on 19 February 1894, was designated a basilica in 1901 by Pope Leo XIII, and today receives about 10,000 pilgrims a day. Bartholomew and Mariana, the widowed Countess di Fusco, constructed other charitable institutions nearby forming what became known as the City of Charity or City of Mary. To staff the orphanage in the City, Longo founded the Daughters of the Rosary of Pompeii. He established a trade school for the Sons of the Imprisoned, boys whose fathers were in jail, and placed it under the direction of the Brothers of Christian Schools. The success of the school disproved the contemporary assumption that children of criminals were doomed to be criminals themselves, and in 1922 he established a sister school for the daughters of prisoners. Because Bartholomew and Mariana worked together so much, gossip developed that they were romantically involved. To prevent their good work from being tainted by this talk, the two married in April 1885, but lived together chastely in keeping with private vows. It was not enough for some, however, and in the first years of this century he was accused of adultery, profiteering, dishonesty, even insanity. In 1906, Pope Saint Pius IX asked Longo to retire as administrator for the good of the City, and he did, handing it over to the papacy, and taking a job in the City as a regular employee. Made a Knight of the Guard Cross of the Holy Sepulcher in 1925. Born 11 February 1841 at Latiana, southern Italy Died • 5 October 1926 of pneumonia • buried in the crypt of the Rosary Basilica alongside his wife Mariana Beatified 26 October 1980 by Pope John Paul II Video YouTube PlayList Prayers All-powerful and merciful God, in Blessed Bartolo, a promoter of the rosary of the Blessed Virgin, you showed a wonderful example of holiness and of charity for needy children and orphans. Through his prayers may we learn to see Christ your Son in our neighbors and to love him through them. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. - General Calendar of the Order of Preachers Readings You, what have you done by taking Christ out of the schools? You have produced enemies of social order, subversives. On the contrary, what have we gained by putting Christ into the schools of the children of criminals? We have transformed these misfortunate ones into honest and virtuous young people that you wanted to abandon to their sad fate or toss into insane asylums! - Blessed Bartholomew, writing to a group of criminologists about his schools My only desire is to see Mary who saved me and who will save me from the clutches of Satan. - Blessed Bartholomew's last words I wish to die a true Dominican tertiary in the arms of the Queen of the Rosary with the assistance of my holy Father Saint Dominic and of my mother Saint Catherine of Siena. - from Blessed Bartholomew's last will and testament Rosary in hand, Blessed Bartolo Longo says to each of us: "Awaken your confidence in the Most Blessed Virgin of the Rosary. Venerable Holy Mother, in You I rest all my troubles, all my trust and all my hope!" - Pope John Paul II in his homily during the beatification ceremony for Blessed Bartholomew Francis Xavier Seelos Also known as • Father Seelos • Francesco Saverio Seelos • Franz Xaver Seelos Profile One of twelve children born to Mang and Frances Schwarzenbach Seelos; he was named for Saint Francis Xavier. His father was a textile merchant who became parish sacristan. Francis was Confirmed on 3 September 1828, and made his first Communion on 2 April 1830. The boy wanted to be a priest from an early age, and often claimed he would be another Francis Xavier. He completed his basic studies in Füssen, Germany, and graduated from the Institute of Saint Stephen in Augsburg, Germany in 1839. Received a degree in philosophy and theology from the University of Munich, and entered the Saint Jerome seminary in Dillingen an der Donau, Germany on 19 September 1842. Francis became familiar with the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, and their mission to work with the poorest, the abandoned, and immigrants. He joined on 22 November 1842. Feeling a call to minister to German immigrants to America, he left the seminary on 9 December 1842, sailed for the America on 17 March 1843, and arrived in New York on 20 April. Ordained in the Redemptorist Church of Saint James in Baltimore, Maryland on 22 December 1844. Worked nine years at Saint Philomena parish in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, six of those years as assistant pastor to, and spiritual student of Saint John Neumann, and the other three as superior and novice master of his Redemptorist community. Faithful to the Redemptorist teachings, he led a simple life, preached a simple message, and was always available to those in need. His sermons drew crowds from neighboring towns, there were lines outside his confessional, and he never tired of working with children. He heard Confessions in English, German, and French, from black and whites and anyone else with a burden. Transferred to parish ministries in Baltimore in 1854, Cumberland, Maryland in 1857, and Annapolis, Maryland in 1862. Proposed as bishop of Pittsburgh in 1860, but he begged to be excused "from this act of God", and his desire was granted by Pope Pius IX. In 1863, during the American Civil War, all men were obliged to be available for active military duty. Seelos, as Superior of the Redemptorist Seminary, met with President Abraham Lincoln, and obtained an agreement not to send seminarians to the front. Seelos soon after lost his position as Prefect of Students for being "too lenient". From 1863 to 1866 he lived as an itinerant mission preacher in both English and German in Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. Hearing of an influx of German immigrants to New Orleans, Louisiana, he pastored a Redemptorist church there beginning in 1866. He worked with yellow fever victims until he was taken by the illness the next year. Born • 11 January 1819 at Füssen, Bavaria, Germany • baptized on the same day Died • 4 October 1867 in New Orleans, Louisiana of yellow fever • buried in a crypt beneath the floor of Saint Mary's Assumption Church, New Orleans Beatified • 9 April 2000 by Pope John Paul II at Rome, Italy • responsible for the miraculous healing from inoperable liver cancer of Angela Boudreaux in 1966 Patronage against cancer Storefront rosary, holy cards, statues Video YouTube PlayList Readings O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight. I offer praise to You for the grace You have bestowed on Your humble missionary, Father Francis Xavier Seelos. May I have the same joyful vigor that Father Seelos possessed during his earthly life to love You deeply and live faithfully Your gospel. Amen. - Byron Miller, C.Ss.R. Faithful to the spirit and charism of the Redemptorist Congregation to which he belonged, Father Francis Xavier Seelos often meditated upon these words of the Psalmist. Sustained by God's grace and an intense life of prayer, Father Seelos left his native Bavaria and committed himself generously and joyfully to the missionary apostolate among immigrant communities in the United States. In the various places where he worked, Father Francis Xavier brought his enthusiasm, spirit of sacrifice and apostolic zeal. To the abandoned and the lost he preached the message of Jesus Christ, "the source of eternal salvation" (Hebrews 5:9), and in the hours spent in the confessional he convinced many to return to God. Today, Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos invites the members of the Church to deepen their union with Christ in the sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist. Through his intercession, may all who work in the vineyard for the salvation of God's people be encouraged and strengthened in their task. - Pope John Paul II at the beatification recognition for Blessed Francis http://catholicsaints.info/blessed-francis-xavier-seelos/ Saint Faustina Kowalska Also known as • Elena Kowalska • Faustina Kowalska • Helena Kowalska • Maria Faustina Kowalska • Sister Faustina • Sister Maria Faustina of the Most Blessed Sacrament Profile Third of ten children, she attended only three years of school. As a teenager, she worked as a domestic servant for other families. After being rejected by several religious orders, she became a nun in the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Warsaw, Poland on 1 August 1925; the Congregation is devoted to care and education of troubled young women. She changed her name to Sister Maria Faustina of the Most Blessed Sacrament. During her 13 years in various houses, she was a cook, gardener, and porter. She had a special devotion to Mary Immaculate, to the Sacrament, and to Reconciliation, which led to a deep mystical interior life. She began to have visions, receive revelations, and experience hidden stigmata. She began recording these mystical experiences in a diary; being nearly illiterate, it was written phonetically, without quotation marks or punctuation, and runs to nearly 700 pages. A bad translation reached Rome in 1958, and was labelled heretical. However, when Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II) became Archbishop of Krakow, he was besieged by requests for a reconsideration. He ordered a better translation made, and Vatican authorities realized that instead of heresy, the work proclaimed God's love. It was published as Divine Mercy in my Soul. In the 1930's, Sister Faustina received a message of mercy from Jesus that she was told to spread throughout the world, a message of God's mercy to each person individually, and for humanity as a whole. Jesus asked that a picture be painted of him with the inscription: "Jesus, I Trust in You." She was asked to be a model of mercy to others, to live her entire life, in imitation of Christ's, as a sacrifice. She commissioned this painting in 1935, showing a red and a white light shining from Christ's Sacred Heart. Apostles of Divine Mercy is a movement of priests, religious, and lay people inspired by Faustina's experiences; they spread knowledge of the mystery of Divine Mercy, and invoke God's mercy on sinners. Approved in 1996 by the Archdiocese of Krakow, it has spread to 29 countries. He entered the diocesan seminary. Coming to know the charism of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, joined it and was sent to North America. He was ordained a priest in 1844.   He began his pastoral ministry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as assistant pastor of his confrère St John Neumann, serving also as Master of Novices and dedicating himself to preaching. He became a full-time itinerant missionary preacher, preaching in both English and German in a number of different states. He died in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 4 October 1867. Liturgical colour: green The theological virtue of hope is symbolized by the colour green, just as the burning fire of love is symbolized by red. Green is the colour of growing things, and hope, like them, is always new and always fresh. Liturgically, green is the colour of Ordinary Time, the season in which we are being neither especially penitent (in purple) nor overwhelmingly joyful (in white).   ©Evangelizo.org 2001-2017 Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos Priest (1819-1867) He was born in Füssen, Bavaria, Germany on January 11, 1819, was one of 12 children born to Mang and Frances Schwarzenbach Seelos, and was baptized the same day in the parish church. Having expressed a desire for the priesthood since childhood he studied philosophy and theology in Munich. Seelos was touched by the letters published in the Catholic newspaper Sion, from the Redemptorist missionaries describing the lack of spiritual care for the thousands of German speaking immigrants. After visiting the Redemptorists in Altötting, he decided to enter the Congregation, asking to be allowed to work as a missionary in the United States.  On December 22, 1844, Seelos was ordained a priest in Baltimore, Maryland., he was assigned for six years to St. Philomena’s Parish in Pittsburgh as an assistant to St. John Neumann. Regarding their relationship, Seelos said: "He has introduced me to the active life" and, "he has guided me as a spiritual director and confessor." Several years in parish ministry in Maryland followed, along with responsibility for training Redemptorist students. His availability and innate kindness in understanding and responding to the needs of the faithful quickly made him well known as an expert confessor and spiritual director, so much so that people came to him even from neighboring towns. His confessional was open to all: "I hear confessions in German, English, French, of Whites and of Blacks". He practiced a simple lifestyle and a simple manner of expressing himself. The themes of his preaching, rich in Biblical content, were always understood even by the simplest people. Father Seelos is described a man with a constant smile and a generous heart, especially towards the needy and the marginalized. For several years he preached in English and in German throughout the Midwest and in the Middle Atlantic states. Assigned to St. Mary of the Assumption Church community in New Orleans, he served his Redemptorist confreres and parishioners with great zeal. In 1867 he died of yellow fever, having contracted that disease while visiting the sick.

There are so many of us who have been affected by today’s culture especially music, shows, movies, and how we make interactions with each other from the entertainment we consumed. We must pray for each other my brothers and sisters. Too many times, the culture can lure us away or we find ourselves on the threshold of the door to the occult. We need to return to God.
Blessed Bartolo Longo, pray for us!

Please pray for me. I don't know how to describe it. I don't love God enough, as much as He deserves and as much as I should. And I know He loves me infinitely but I can't understand or comprehend it. I feel a bit lost and aimless. I want to serve Him but I feel like I fall away every time it becomes difficult

Prayer to Blessed Bartolo Longo
O Blessed Bartolo Longo, you who loved Mary with the tenderness of a son and who spread devotion by the reciting of the Holy Rosary and through her intercession received superabundant grace to love and serve Christ through service to abandoned children, obtain for us the grace to live in the spirit of prayer united to God, to love him, as you did, through our brothers. You, who at the end of your earthly journey declared never having tired of praying for every pain, for every hardship, for every calamity, trusting in the omnipotence of God and in the intercession of His Divine Mother, continue to intercede for those who are called to continue your work of faith and love at Pompeii and for all the Rosarians of the world. Pray for us that we, after the earthly contemplation of the joyful and sorrowful Mysteries, can with you share the joy of the glorious Mysteries in heaven with Mary, Queen of the angels and of the Saints. Amen

How do I pray the rosary? 💜
How to Pray the Rosary:
1. While holding the crucifix in your hand, make the Sign of the Cross, followed by reciting The Apostles’ Creed.
2. On the first bead next to the crucifix, recite the Our Father (that’s the prayer Jesus taught us to pray.)
3. On the three small beads, recite the Hail Mary for an increase of faith, hope, and charity.
4. Next on the big bead, recite the Glory Be.
5. Stay on the big bead. You must now decide which set of Mysteries you will pray on. There are four different Mysteries for the Rosary which I will color differently:
Joyful Mysteries (usually said on Monday and Saturday):
The Annunciation
The Visitation
The Nativity
The Presentation
The Finding of Jesus in the Temple
Luminous Mysteries (this is usually prayed on Thursday):
Jesus’ Baptism in the Jordan
The Wedding of Cana
The Proclamation of the Kingdom
The Transfiguration of Jesus
The Institution of the Eucharist
Sorrowful Mysteries (this is usually prayed on Tuesday and Wednesday):
The Agony of the Garden
The Scourging at the Pillar
The Crowning of Thorns
The Carrying of the Cross
The Crucifixion
Glorious Mysteries (this is usually prayed on Sunday and Wednesday):
The Resurrection
The Ascension of Jesus
The Decent of the Holy Spirit
The Assumption of Mary
The Crowning of Mary
6. After you pick which Mystery you want, using the big bead you are paused on recite the first mystery. Reflect on it briefly.
7. Staying on the big bead, recite the Our Father.
8. Move upwards to choose a side you want to start on. Each set is called a decade. Keeping in the mind the first mystery. On each small bead of a decade, pray recite the Hail Mary meanwhile, meditate on the first mystery. (For example, if I wanted to pray the Glorious Mysteries rosary, I could meditate on The Resurrection for the first decade, while reciting the Hail Mary for each bead.)
9. When you are finished the tenth Hail Mary, notice there is a bead that separates the start of the second mystery. Recite the Glory Be (I like to make the sign of the cross with the crucifix when I do this) and then recite the Fatima Prayer.
10. Now you start the second mystery. Recall the second mystery, meditate on it briefly, recite the Our Father. Move onto the new set of decades and repeat the steps above until you are finished making your way around.
11. Go to the big bead. Recite Hail Holy Queen and concluding prayer. I’ve seen people do different ones but I like the Rosary Prayer {Verse) Let us pray, (Response) O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation. Grant, we beseech Thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through Christ our Lord. Amen.}.
12. To finish, use the crucifix to make the sign of the cross.
13. I personally like to kiss the crucifix afterwards as to say thank You to Jesus, but that’s not really required lol.

The Power of Praying the Rosary
Those are just some of many videos that describe it. I love to follow along with Mother Angelica and her nuns. The videos made on EWTN show pictures as they pray on each mystery and really helps my visual mind stay focused. Here’s a link to one of the four:

When you say your Rosary, don’t rush through it like you’re reading a newspaper. There is no race. It’s no contest. This is your time to develop your spirituality and holiness. Some people have trouble finishing the rosary due to its repetition, especially when tired. One of them is me if I say it before bed. It is better to meditate one or two decades than to pray nicely on one and rush the rest. Try to make each mystery like a movie in your head. Also, don’t wear the Rosary around your neck like souvenir. It must be treated with respect, as the devil sees it as a sword.
Here’s some quotes about the Rosary:
“The rosary is a means given by the Virgin for contemplating Jesus and, meditating on his life, for loving and following him always more faithfully.” - Pope Benedict XVI
“The Rosary is my favorite prayer.” - St. Pope John Paul II
“You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary." - Mary to Blessed Alan de la Roche
“The Rosary is the best therapy for these distraught, unhappy, fearful, and frustrated souls, precisely because it involves the simultaneous use of three powers: the physical, the vocal, and the spiritual…” - Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
““Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil as sorcerers do who practice black magic, and even if you are a heretic as obstinate as a devil, sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and will save your soul, if—and mark well what I say—if you say the Holy Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for your sins.” - St. Louis de Montfort
“When you say your Rosary, the angels rejoice, the Blessed Trinity delights in it, my Son finds joy in it too, and I myself am happier than you can possibly guess. After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there is nothing in the Church that I love as much as the Rosary.” - Our Lady to Blessed Alan de la Roche

There are a lot of amazing stories of the Rosary. I think my absolute favorite story of the Rosary is how it effected a man called Blessed Bartolo Longo!
Edit: I also highly recommend do not pray the Rosary while you are driving. I don’t want to hear about you dying. Keep your eyes alert at all times. (Don’t use your phone in your hands either. Texting can wait. If you have the ability to use it hands free for a phone call, then of course that is ok if you really need it.) Anyway, follow your laws and stay safe! God bless!

In regards to people stealing the eucharist to abuse it, obviously I agree that is incredibly disrespectful and sacrilegious, but also I think of that story in the Old Testament when the pagans stole the Ark of the Covenant and took it to their cities and the Ark brought plagues on them until they were so scared they begged the Israelites to take it back. If Christ is truly in the eucharist, those who are abusing should be more concerned for their own well-being than we should be for the well-being of the eucharist right? Or is that the wrong way to think of it?
If they don’t repent of their sins with true sincere heart, surely we can say that they will be judged for their sins and pay the price by fire… whether it be hell that they send themself to, or to purgatory, before entering Heaven to be purified of all sin. There is no sin on this Earth that can be hidden from God, not even in the darkest of night. The darkness of night is like day to Him and He knows us better than ourselves. He is omnipresent and knows our thoughts before we think them. It is however, important that we pray for these people and give them blessings because we have a chance here to act upon a work of mercy! They are in so much pain to steal our Lord away and abuse Him, that they don’t even known they need our prayers. This can be a great step in holiness if we offer prayer and fasting no matter how small. They have potential to have a change of heart, just like St. Paul and Blessed Bartolo Longo! Amen, I say to you, Jesus Christ IS truly present body, blood, soul, and divinity within the consecrated Eucharist done by a Catholic priest.

I'm the overwhelmed anon from before. I'm so thankful for saying a rosary for me and for everyone else that has kept me in their prayers! I would also like to raise this question: What is the Rosary Confraternity (and is this where this 1 week challenge of praying comes from? Link: https://medium.com/@catholicrose/1-week-rosary-challenge-9338780ffcc3). I've been struggling with multiple habitual sins and would like to really overcome them but it's no use so far. I've heard that doing praying the entire Rosary, at least for a whole week, makes a massive difference in one's spiritual growth? Could you please enlighten me on this? I'm a terrible person when it comes to commitment but I'm willing to try out the challenge in hopes of improving for the better. :))
Hello there anon! You’re welcome, any time. My ask box and messages are always open.
The Rosary Confraternity is a group that pledges to pray 15 decades of a Rosary each week. It is absolutely free and there are no dues to be paid as well as no meetings. If you can’t make the 15 decades during one week, it won’t be held against you. I find this is easier than four decades every day and it gives you more incentive to make the decades prayed with deeper meaning. Here is a link I used:
Tumblr media
I think praying just one Rosary even if it’s just one a week, can have a massive change inside us. When we pray the Rosary, we take our human weaknesses of indulging in a habitual sin away in order to stop and meditate on Jesus and our Blessed Mother. We meditate on their life according to different mystery decades and by doing so we can offer the Rosary up for someone else living or dead, or even ourself. When we focus on Jesus, we don’t focus on sin. Our anxiety goes away. Even if you only have the strength to pray one decade, give it the most attention you can with all your heart. Your mind will try to distract you and that’s ok. Let the thoughts come and go like the wind but pull yourself back to prayer. It happens to all of us.
I love telling people about Blessed Bartolo Longo. Despite his upbringing, Bartolo wandered off into the occult. He literally sold his soul to the devil, becoming a high priest in the Satanic rite. It ate away at his mind, anxieties which you and I can’t imagine. The only way he escaped his anxiety was when he took up praying the Rosary. He converted to Catholicism by the Rosary alone and was able to overcome all his difficulties. May he be a source of inspiration for you.

Mirjana greets Our Lady at the Blue Cross October 7, 2019 Our Lady of the Rosary! Consecration Day! Dear Family of Mary! Consecration day!!   Our Lady has spoken to us as we have prayed this consecration to her. Her September 25, 2019 message give us so much wisdom and encouragement as we profess our commitment to praying the Rosary: "Dear children! Today I am calling you to pray for my intentions so that I may help you. Little children, pray the Rosary and meditate the mysteries of the Rosary because, in your life, you are also passing through joys and sorrows. In this way, you are transforming the mysteries into your life, because life is a mystery until you place it into God's hands. In this way, you will have the experience of faith like Peter who met Jesus and the Holy Spirit filled his heart. Little children, you are also called to witness by living the love with which, day by day, God wraps you with my presence. Therefore, little children, be open and pray with the heart in faith. Thank you for having responded to my call." (September 25, 2019) We say "yes" to you, dearest Mother and will pray our Rosary "as an obligation [we] will fulfill with joy!" We pray our consecration prayer one more time!! "O Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain which unites us to God, bond of love which unites us to the angels, tower of salvation against the assaults of Hell, safe port in our universal shipwreck, we will never abandon you. You will be our comfort in the hour of death: yours our final kiss as life ebbs away. And the last word from our lips will be your sweet name, O Queen of the Rosary of Pompei, O dearest Mother, O Refuge of Sinners, O Sovereign Consoler of the Afflicted. May you be everywhere blessed, today and always, on earth and in heaven". (Blessed Bartolo Longo) We commit ourselves to praying the Rosary for your intentions, dearest Mary, our Mother, as You enter this final battle with Satan, for the sake of souls. We will take up the Rosary as an obligation that we will fulfill with great joy! Together we will pray for Your Triumph over Satan, and for the coming of a New Time of Peace which has been given to us through You, Oh Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary!! Amen Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit! As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen In Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Cathy Nolan ©Mary TV 2019

Transforming the Mysteries into you life!    October 1, 2019 St. Teresa of the Child Jesus 33 Day Consecration - Day 28 Dear Family of Mary! 33 Day Prayer of Consecration to Our Lady of the Rosary - Day 28 In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit! Receive our Consecration Prayer, O dearest Mother Mary! Let's continue to use Our Lady's September 25, 2019 message as our instruction on the power and purpose of the Rosary. "...Little children, pray the Rosary and meditate the mysteries of the Rosary because, in your life, you are also passing through joys and sorrows. In this way, you are transforming the mysteries into your life, because life is a mystery until you place it into God's hands..." (September 25, 2019) "Meditate the mysteries of the Rosary!" Fr. Shamon encouraged us to just look at the mysteries and not to analyze them intellectually.   Here is one example of his experience of meditating the mysteries in this way: One day I was saying the Glorious Mysteries. I was thinking of the second one; the Ascension. The thought just surfaced of how (at the Ascension) the apostles were being left all alone- but with Mary! I wondered how those eleven ordinary men could change the world. Then out of the blue I began thinking of Our Lady's apparitions to young children at Lourdes, Fatima, and Medjugorje. I thought they were just a few kids and yet they affected so many millions. At Medjugorje I thought of the 15 million who have already been touched. [This is the figure as of 1990, millions more today!] Then it became quite clear to me of how much greater impact the apostles must have had, for they not only had seen Christ, they had been with Him for years. Then, too, the Mother of God was their companion for over 15 years after His Ascension. Wow! Before I could go on, I was on the Third Mystery." (Fr. Albert Shamon. "The Power of the Rosary". P. 13) Fr. Shamon shows us exactly how to transform the mysteries into our own lives. And actually in doing so, our lives become much less a mystery to us, because we have placed them firmly in God's hands!! More tomorrow! Supplication to the Queen of the Holy Rosary: "O Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain which unites us to God, bond of love which unites us to the angels, tower of salvation against the assaults of Hell, safe port in our universal shipwreck, we will never abandon you. Amen Now we pray our Rosary for today! Sorrowful Mysteries!! In Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Cathy Nolan ©Mary TV 2019
