What made you ship it?

Tldr finding melruth fic and then rewatching the show through that lens. Excuse to wear your furs caught me by the throat and then the See You Around scene captured my soul and I've been unwell for them ever since.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I am in love with them both. Lesbians sapphics. So much angst potential. Flirting hours. PINING. Being toxic for each other and yet still being each others best options because canon boyfriends don't do it for Ruthie.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

It's real *glares at @gohoubi*

Ruth/Boki

What made you ship it?

@cinnamontea put the idea in my head and it stuck around like a bad smell. We both fic'd it. Now I can't get over it because they're both broken little babies ❤️

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Size difference, scars inside vs out, enemies to friends to lovers potential. Boki calling her Rushenka. Ruth has two hands potential 👀

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

infinitely more palatable than Ruth/Roche. Also, Boki needs to die because Curse.

Mel/Wilford

Why don’t you ship it?

It makes me feel a bit queasy. I absolutely see potential there but it's not a comfortable ship and I get a bit squicked out both about the idea of them being married and/or there still being romance there.

What would have made you like it?

If they'd been business partners and not businessman and his teenage ingenue. If Wilford wasn't Sean Bean.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

The fics about it absolutely slap once I get past the icky feeling.

Mel/Layton

Why don’t you ship it?

I prefer to forget Layton exists. Also idk the time frame seems sketchy to me but that applies to their friendship / mutual respect too.

What would have made you like it?

If it had been overtly canon (in the way melben is) then I coulda maybe got behind it because JC and DD could be hot not gonna lie.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

The fics slap, especially the anon ones 👀. I do like the whole hatefucking vibe. Also @onetrainsnowpiercer's screencaps do make it more plausible so I can maybe be convinced.

The thing about Boki that doesn’t make sense isn’t that he’s part of Wilford’s cult-it’s how did he not know what was going on? Because in 1.02 he knew something was up since Melanie was from hospitality, and in 1.06 she did things hospitality couldn’t have done, and said in front of him that she designed/built the train. Very clearly an engineer. So how the hell he didn’t realize beforehand gets me more than him being part of Wilford’s cult. Also pretty sure somewhere Aleks implied he would be, so. That’s not surprising. Just expected it to be more like oh he’s picking a side than oh he’s in mourning and now he’s not anymore. If that makes sense.

Well, Boki always looked like a pretty... straightforward guy to me. The one who's not much into intrigues by default. In 1x02 Ben told him that it was Wilford who sent Melanie to check the damage personally, and Bojan clearly had zero problems with that version. Even his "seven years she work Hospitality for Mr. Wilford, and now she comes downtrain to be Engineer" sounded like "what could this Hospitality woman know" to me, there was no assumption of Melanie being more than Wilford's errand girl, and Wilford's name was enough to calm him down. So before 1x02, for almost seven years, Boki knew absolutely nothing about Melanie replacing Wilford, and probably never suspected anything. (And technically almost no one else suspected anything, but that's another problem.)

Sure, in 1x06 he learned that Melanie designed Snowpiercer, but it wasn't enough to decide that Wilford wasn't there. Yes, suddenly she's one of the head engineers - but she still could be Wilford's right hand. Wilford is allowed to move in mysterious ways :D After 1x06, Boki might have started thinking why were so few people aware that Melanie is an engineer, but the revelation about Melanie murdering (...haha) Wilford came rather quickly, in a couple of days. And then it was "revolution" VS the First & the Jackboots, and Breachmen's loyalty did not exactly lie with the First. With Wilford dead, Breachmen could decide that it didn't matter much which side would win (considering that line from 1x02, they don't have much praise for Hospitality, so Wilford's order without the master himself hardly appeals to them as it does to Ruth&Co). Or they could believe that this revolt would drown itself anyway ("we sat it out" and all), no need to risk any Breachman life in action.

And now Wilford's alive, they're ready to do whatever he asks, but since he hasn't exactly asked anything of them yet - they could really be just sitting and waiting for him to fully reestablish control, because the great Mr. Wilford cannot possibly fail. (...or doing something sinister, we'll see about that!)

I love Snowpiercer logic because yeah Wilford's original team was a 17 year old weirdo from PA and a 14 year old Serbian boy so they've known each other 30 years but also they have no emotional attachment to each other and don't know anything about each other

-establish that Melanie is, in fact, older than Boki

-and establish that for a year, Wilford's inner circle was a Serbian 14 year old and a 17 year old child prodigy

Boki gently pats the head of the bat that had flown into his pocket; he wasn't totally sure which it was, but the immediate drooping eyelids made him think it was Melanie. He leans down to kiss her head, and she nestles closer into his pocket.

"Get some sleep, little one. I'll bring you to your home."
