I am really admiring the design efficiency of the BOXABL...but I want a 20x30 version, not the 20x20 version.
That kitchen is TOO damn small. Even if I'm just cooking for myself, I NEED MORE SPACE TO COOK.
...Also, it's interesting that my state has a minimum habitation size, of 120 square feet, for someone to legally live inside a structure. (So basically a room that's 10'x12', or approximately 8'x15' if you want something road legal in width.)
I don’t think humans should be living in studio apartments or little one bedroom apartments you can barely turn around in. It’s like how the minimum tank size requirement for a betta fish is technically 2.5 gallons but you’re a monster if you put them in anything less than 5 gallons. I think people deserve at least one extra room in their house.

Bradley from Tiny Homes of Tucson explains why a stick-built ADU is a smarter, long-term investment compared to pre-manufactured options like Boxabl or Amazon tiny homes. Discover how stick-built units offer superior insulation, energy efficiency, custom design, and long-term value—especially important for Tucson’s extreme desert heat, monsoon storms, and strict building codes. Avoid delivery headaches, design limitations, and depreciation—build an ADU designed to last in the Sonoran Desert.

”…maybe. My emotions definitely feel a lot…bigger now. A lot less…boxable.”
*Vaga nods.*
And I'm not saying boxing them is the best idea either... but, maybe they'd be easier to manage if they were.
*He looks back at Yume.*
You mentioned earlier the adults seem to box up their feelings and never take them out... but that's... not really true.

Dev Pile 2025-19
Hey, check this out.
Man, this was a lot of work.
These are the bid cards for Moonshiners. This is the kind of Dev work post that doesn’t turn into a thousand words very easily. It’s been all day’s work, I’ve been trying to make sure I get it done, but what I have to show for it is nine cards that I’m already critiquing.
Let’s do that then.
First things first, these cards are black on black. First problem with that is printing them. This eats a ton of black ink, and even if it doesn’t it’s going to make printing them slow. There is an easy solution to that for prototyping, before these cards get turned into a game product for people to spend money on:
Just a simple inversion and now these cards are a lot easier to print on a device like a inkjet printer. Not that I intend to make a print-and-play version of this game like that, but it’s still an important part of the accessibility plan.
Second, the boundaries on these icons are a little off, and the silhouettes of the numbers aren’t quite how I want. Consider the 5 looks lopsided, with the grid angled to the side. Because the pip of the money is an arrowed shape pointed to the right, it means that grid of 5 needs to be repositioned specifically.
Similarly, the 9 and 6 are too similar, and might lead to people being confused by the similarity of the numbers and the similarity of the grid. These cards are going to get played into a pool and looked at from all angles. Also, there’s just not enough room between the numbers and the pips. Maybe the numbers can just be smaller?
I think I need an off-by-half grid of the pips as well; so 8 and 4 can be pulled inwards a little, to. The two outside pips in the second row on 8 could be closer to one another. The 4 should be arranged as a + not a X, too.
The cards are rotationally symmetrical, which means they’re not boxable. A boxed deck is when some of the cards are rotated around 180 degrees to the others, and that makes sorting them into the correct orientation is time consuming. This is also why a white border on one card face when the other is black has some value; it means when the cards are disorganised, it’s easy to grab a handful, tilt them a little, and tell how many of them are the ‘wrong’ way up. This aesthetic of solid black is cool, but it does make that a little difficult. Hopefully, the ‘missing corner’ on the card face art deco frame makes that easier, I’ll have to test that when I have physical copies to play with.
I’m not sure I want to keep the pips as wads of bills like this. I’ve tried using coins, but those don’t feel very American. On the other hand, maybe just abstracting them to $ symbols can look cool. Hang on, lemme see:
Hmm, that’s not a bad thing to use as a stand-in. I do think that the off-set, the angling down to the right of the whole card face, the angular swoop of the whole face does merit reattention, but a 3×3 and 2×3 half-offset grid of the same symbols seems like a good next step.
The issue here is that the $ symbol is just very tall; all characters like this are in this kind of art deco font, because art deco was typically, very much about orienting upwards and claiming height. It was the design of skyscrapers, it was the abstraction of upness. That means fonts for it tend to look very tall. It can create a feeling on the card of narrowness and that makes it easier to see this as a grid of numbers, and not a count of pips.
Anyway, there are two other card faces:
These are as simple as possible, to make them easy to show off. I immediately want to add text to them; I want them to convey clearly to the player what they’re meant to be used for, and that makes me wonder about how to put text on these cards.
In the bottom right, mirrored for the other forms of the card seems the first place to consider. Another option is to put it on a bar angled to match the angle of the frame – a line drawn from the upper-outer-leftmost point to the midpoint bottom of the golden frame. These icons also probably want to be closer to the center of the card, so that they’re harder to accidentally give away when you hold your hand a particular way.
The text on these cards is probably going to be something like:
CLAW: If you’re the only claw bid, you take the lot and the unprotected cash!
HAND: You’re out of the running and can protect your cash.
These also need an affiliation symbol, a spot for some gem that indicates that a particular player is using these ones, which means players can identify themselves through their cards after the chaos of a claw bid happens. These are not because players are guaranteed to forget, but because it is possible they forget, and the card symbols can be used to store information that players might not want to forget.
This is just the information on these cards. This is just trying to make sure these prototypes can do their jobs, and I’m not going to change these before playtesting with them. These cards do their job well enough, but when the time comes for the next round of revisions, I’ll be able to contrast my first impressions (my ethnographic engagement with the work) and the opinions and experiences of others as we play the game together.
The next thing to work on is a quick-and-dirty template for the places and some kind of simplified graphic for those. I think at this stage, if I’m not going to be acquiring a large amount of art, the important thing is to have simplified card faces that project a good style.
Check it out on PRESS.exe to see it with images and links!
