Sun Church Ruins, Sweden (No. 1)

According to tradition, Sunne Church and Kastal must have been built on 1178 at the behest of the Norwegian king, Sverre Sigurdsson, who in the Battle of Andersön in the spring winter defeated the Jämtland peasant army on the ice of Storsjön.

In the Nordic countries, castlers, guard and defense buildings of stone began to be erected in the 12th century. Kastaler is rare in northern Sweden, which highlights the special importance of the place. The two castes in Sunne and Brunflo clarify the showdown that took place between the Norwegian royal family and the Swedish archbishop's seat in Uppsala. Sunne kastal was injured in a lightning strike in 1731. The defensive tower was repaired, but over time had to decay and collapse. When Sunne Church was built in the 1830s, large parts of the medieval church were demolished to be reused in new construction.

Sun Church Ruins, Sweden (No. 4)

A very nice church ruin with many nooks to explore, surrounded by meadows, the big lake and fields.

According to tradition, Sunne Church and Kastal must have been built in 1178 at the behest of the Norwegian king, Sverre Sigurdsson, who in the Battle of Andersön in the spring winter defeated the Jämtland peasant army on the ice of Storsjön. Sunne kastal was injured in a lightning strike in 1731. The chestnut was a defensive tower. There have been two of them in Jämtland. The second is completely preserved and is located at Brunflo Church.

The old church was built of limestone and granite. The doorway has been located in the south long wall and the windows have been round-arched. Inside, the walls have been covered with lime paintings. Among other things, there was a scene depicting Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.
