Sonic Bravo - Part Three

KYLE CROUSE: DDRMASTERM has a question. “Sonic Bravo returns for a third round, and this time he flirts with Tangle, Whisper, and Surge. How does it go?”

IAN FLYNN: Uh, Tangle— they actually go out on a date and have fun. KYLE: [chuckles] Yeah, of course. IAN: Like, despite themselves and their own ways, they— they just manage to have a good time. Like, it just becomes a platonic great day out. KYLE: Yup. IAN: Uh, what were the other two? KYLE: Whisper and Surge. IAN: Oh, Whisper… [chuckles, then as Johnny Bravo] “Hey there, pretty mama, put the weapon down! I— I’m backin’ away slowly! I’m backin’ away very quickly, now!” KYLE: [cackling laughter] Yup, yup! IAN: And then, from like thirty feet away— [as Johnny Bravo, from a distance] “Call me!” KYLE: Pfff ha ha! [as Whisper] “I don’t have your number.” IAN: [chuckles] And then, Surge… [as Johnny Bravo] “Hey there, sparky mama, you wanna go out some time?” And she just kinda gives him the up-and-down, and then this smile dawns on her face, and you know… KYLE: [laughs] Oh no! IAN: …that he’s in trouble. You know that this is going to end with a chalk outline somewhere. KYLE: [giggles] Hilarious. Oh boy. IAN: And eventually, if— this could go a couple of ways. You know, one is that she eventually, like, leads him off a cliff. Or she decides he’s just too stupid to dirty her own hands, but she still wants to get a laugh out of this, so she goes, “Hey Kit… this guy was mean to me on a date. You gonna let that stand?” KYLE: Oh boy. Oh no. IAN: [as Johnny Bravo] “What’s that strange ominous music? Why am I seein’ numbers count down over my head? Five, four, three, two, one—!” [drowning noises] KYLE: [laughing] No! Ah, that’s good. That’s good.

IAN FLYNN: [chuckling] Oh, Boom!Eggman is just a fawning, tripping-over-himself dad. KYLE: I was gonna say, yeah... IAN: He spoils her rotten and she just does not care. KYLE: [laughs] IAN: Like, Boom!Sage is there because she has to be, and like, deep down, she does have feelings for Boom!Dad, but... God, he's so cringey! She's optimized his daily plan three times over now, and he's thrown it out to throw her yet another surprise party. It's not even her birthday. She doesn't want a unicorn, she can't interact with a unicorn. "Can we destroy Sonic now please? Stop ending the fight midway through to show off your wallet photos! Who even carries wallets anymore?! Dad, stop it!" KYLE: [chuckles] Boom!Sage is just the goth kid, pretty much. IAN: [cackling, then in Eggman's voice] "I've had enough of your sass, go to your room!" [as Sage] "Fine!" She flies into the hard drive. KYLE: [laughs] That's cute! IAN: It starts pumping out angry emo music. KYLE: [as Eggman] "Go to your computer! Wait, no, you're grounded, get off your computer!" [both laugh]

KYLE CROUSE: We are back with a question from Scurvy Piratehog! “The world in Sonic has had many different names over the years, and now it's settled on Earth. But… just for fun’s sake, what if all the leaders of the world decided to rename the planet ‘Sonic's world’ as a way to show gratitude to all Sonic has done? How does the Sonic cast react to the fact their planet is now literally called ‘Sonic's world’?”

IAN FLYNN: Knuckles starts a club that refuses to acknowledge it. Shadow and Eggman are the first to join. KYLE: [cackles, then as Eggman] “The hedgehog conquered my planet?!” IAN: [chuckles] I mean, it’s not gonna sway Eggman. He’s just even more driven to conquer it and rename it. KYLE: Exactly! IAN: Shadow and Knuckles are a little more restrained. [as Knuckles] “We’re not calling it that.” Which, Sonic will absolutely needle them about. KYLE: [chuckles] Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. IAN: Everyone else, I think, would be kind of charmed and amused by it. Sonic especially. Just, like, [as Sonic] “Heh, okay. If that’s what you wanna commit to. I’m still gonna run around it.” KYLE: [as Sonic] “Bunch’a weirdos.” [laughs] I think that’s what Sonic would think. IAN: Surge is actively trying to blow up the core of the world. Just destroy all. [as Surge, with desperation] “Dark Gaia, wake up! You got work to do! Come on!” KYLE: [laughing] IAN: Starline rises from the grave. [as Starline] “Oh HELL no!” KYLE: [laughter escalates to wheezing hysterics] Why is that so funny?! IAN: Like, just straight up, one-handed lifts the rock up. [as Starline] “Mm-mm! No, no, no, no, no!” KYLE: [wheezing, barely coherent] Why? Why is that so funny?! IAN: [chuckles] KYLE: [through tears?] Why can I so easily envision it?! IAN: [laughs] KYLE: Oh no… [makes himself laugh again thinking about it] IAN: [as Starline] “Zavok, all is forgiven. What do you need?” KYLE: [laughing] Starline waking— IAN: [unintelligible, then as Zavok] “I didn’t know we were on speaking terms.” [as Starline] “They’ve called it— they’ve renamed the planet Sonic’s World.” [as Zavok] “Oh hell no!” KYLE: [more laughter] This is like the Undertaker waking up in the coffin! IAN: [laughs] KYLE: All the villains, “aw, hell, no!” Nobody’s happy! IAN: [laughs] KYLE: Oh, outstanding. [chuckles] Oh, wow. Jet would be pissed. IAN: [cackles] KYLE: Everyone’s mad, like— every villain is just- just absolutely losing their crap. [laughing] Oh, man. Thanks, Scurvy.

PROFESSOR RY: Alright, next question from— is from Miles the Prower, “Hypothetical time, Scourge babysits Cream. What shenanigans happen, how long does it take for him to teach her how to swear, and how many of his bones does Vanilla break?”

IAN FLYNN: [chuckles] Well, in this oddball scenario where Vanilla would even remotely trust Scourge alone with her child, I see him just kinda like, casing the joint, seeing if there’s anything to steal. Cream and Cheese are kind of watching and saying, “No, Mister Scourge, that’s Mama’s jewelry box. Put it back, please.” RY: He’s just borrowing it. IAN: Mhm. “No, Mister Scourge, please don’t drink directly out of the milk carton, that spreads germs. Please use a glass.” RY: That fiend! IAN: “No, Mister Scourge, please put it on the coaster.” She ends up babysitting Scourge more than anything. RY: Oh, jeez, that’s gonna leave a ring… IAN: And eventually Scourge is gonna get tired of this child telling him what to do, and he’s gonna get all up in her business, and that’s when, you know, you hear the battle cry of Cheese. “Get him!” And the house becomes a wreck because it’s a running battle between the two of them. RY: Cheese wins, of course. IAN: Well, yeah! And that’s when Vanilla comes home to find the house wrecked, and then she breaks all of Scourge’s bones. RY: She Banes him! IAN: Mhm, mhm! RY: Well, just, you know, toss him outside where he belongs.

How does his flirt attempts with Rouge, Blaze, Jewel, Tangle, Whisper, and Lanolin go?” [chuckles] Dude, that’s too many names, you should’ve narrowed it down.

IAN FLYNN: Yeah, for a live show, let’s just pick the top three here, real quick. KYLE: Yeah. [moment of silence because it’s a live show and you can’t edit those out in real time] KYLE: Uh, you go for it. IAN: I didn’t get the whole list, so you— KYLE: Oh, Rouge. IAN: — you pick three names. KYLE: Okay. Uh, Rouge. Alright. IAN: I… pff, Sonic Bravo has zero chance. He is not remotely in her league, and he realizes that real fast. He’d roll up on her, [Johnny Bravo voice] “Hey there, pretty mama! I, uh, hm. I— I got nothin’.” KYLE: [chuckling] IAN: And she’s like, “No, you don’t. But you can leave anytime.” KYLE: Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh. IAN: [as Johnny Bravo] “You’ll remember me! I’ll be back!” [as Rouge] “Oh, I’ll remember you, alright.” KYLE: [laughing] IAN: [continuing as Rouge] “And I’m sure you will be back… on your hands and knees.” [as Johnny Bravo] “Hey, if that’s what you want, pretty mama!” KYLE: [cackles] How about Jewel? IAN: [as Johnny Bravo] “Hey there, little mama, you’re all… sparkly and well put together, HOO-HA! How about you and me tour a museum?” [as Jewel] “That… that’s what I do. If you do what you love, you never work a day in your life!” KYLE: [chuckles] IAN: [as Jewel] “That’s surprisingly coherent, coming from you.” [as Johnny Bravo] “Thank you! Thank you very much!” KYLE: [laughs] And… let’s go Lanolin. IAN FLYNN: There's a lot of build up, there's a lot of expectation, everyone is in attendance. There's this kind of edginess around because what if Eggman decides to make things disastrous? 'Cause he kind of does that! There's, y'know, little bits of drama here and there as people clash over how this needs to be the perfect day for Tangle and Whisper. Both of them are already kind of not sure about this, 'cause neither is really big on ceremony or being out in the open. KYLE: Yeah. IAN: And so, finally, things come to a head and everyone's gathered, and music plays, and they turn to see the two brides and there is nobody there! They- they eloped. They went off on their own terms. KYLE: That's right! IAN: Y'know, they appreciate everyone having put so much effort into it. They hope they enjoyed the festivities for themselves, but they're just gonna go off and do things their way. They'll... they'll send you a post card from West Side Island. KYLE: [chuckling] They'll be back eventually. Maybe. If you're lucky. They just said "peace out," and fwoosh! Gone. Sounds about right.

IAN FLYNN: [laughing] Um... I think Blaze would be semi-distracted, y'know? She's delivering a State of the Union address or something to her people, and every now and again she's just kind of glancing over to the side. "What is th- what is that? What is that? What is on the ceiling?" KYLE: She just might be confused! I'm also easily distracted, to be fair. IAN: She'd be fine. She'd be able to keep her poise and otherwise remain focused on whatever was at hand. KYLE: Mhm. IAN: Um, Big? I imagine those tiny little pupils would dilate, so it's nothing but darkness as he zeroes in, and then he moves with a quickness that is both terrifying and mesmerizing to behold. Dashing back and forth with speeds that that much mass should not be able to obtain as he hunts down this single point of light zipping through the jungle. KYLE: [chuckles] Oh no... oh no. Does Big-- IAN: Trees are felled, rivers are re-coursed as Big chases down the laser pointer! KYLE: [chuckling] Does Big do the butt wiggle? IAN: Oh, absolutely. KYLE: Okay, good. [laughing] Nice. Nice, nice.

IAN FLYNN: Uh, it would definitely be shock initially. A degree of disbelief and probably distrust, because... he's probably of the mentality that he can't have nice things. So, how is she back? Is she a robot? Is she a clone? Is she a hallucination? Is she a phantom... thing? Is this a trick? Everybody else only kind of knows of her tangentially, so I think they'd be more accepting once they realize, y'know, what a big deal her return would be. And once Shadow got over himself and acknowledged that she's here and she's back -- assuming, y'know, assuming that she's just here and she's back now -- I think too much time has passed. He can't go back to who he was when they first met up on he ARK, but he might loosen up a little bit. Oh, now Maria has a kind of twenty-four-seven guardian angel just on the fringe. KYLE: [chuckles] Nice.

IAN FLYNN: Uh... I think she would have a desire to be fond of them in that she considers herself family now, and you care about family. So, she wants to care about them. Uh, y'know, Gerald in particular was held in high esteem by her father, so she wants to understand that; she wants to share that esteem. There's a bit of a bitterness towards Maria, so she wants to understand that bitterness and be bitter as well because if Dad is bitter, she must be bitter. KYLE: [chuckles] IAN: And, y'know, Shadow is this frustrating, rebellious side to the family sorta-kinda. I don't think Eggman sees him as family, but I think she's kind of enamored with the idea, so she might try to bridge that gap. KYLE: Yeah. IAN: And again, understand and quantify and-- she's still kind of figuring out what 'family' means, and part of that process is learning that you as an individual perceive those people differently. You don't view them the same as the other folks in your family, necessarily, which would be a fascinating thing to explore. Man, I hope we get that opportunity. KYLE: Mhm.

IAN FLYNN: Hmm... knee-jerk reaction, I'm gonna say Surge is not a fan because the power has to come from somewhere else. They have to transform, and they have to conform to these uniforms or whatever look- their attire, to get the gimmick of their power. And that already strikes a little close to home given that she had powers foisted upon her, but they're hers. She has them twenty-four-seven. She uses them as she sees fit, she doesn't need to do any incantation or canned animation to become powerful -- she already is. "Look at these frilly little whatevers, dancin' around with their wands and what not. Nah!" She'd take 'em all on, with or without their transformations! She's better than all of 'em! Kit thinks they're pretty. KYLE: [laughs] IAN: He likes the sparkles. He's not gonna admit it out loud, but, y'know... KYLE: No, of course not. IAN: It's kinda fun to imagine that just with a little razzle-dazzle, you turn into something more glamorous and fun and adventurous and powerful and -- no, he's not watching this, Surge! Uh, uh, uh, the TV just happened to come onto that channel! Click click click click click! KYLE: Of course! Of course. [chuckles] Oh no, oh... I don't know, maybe they might both like Steven Universe, though. Technically a magical girl show, but... a little different. IAN: Oh, Surge would be all about Amethyst. KYLE: [laughs, then reading chat] I'm receiving the suggestion that she would like Jasper. IAN: Mhm! Mhm, mhm. KYLE: Nice, nice. But she would hate the musical bits, of course. IAN FLYNN: [chuckles] Uh, there would be chaos because Sonic now has a new mode of transportation. He has a new- a whole new kit of maneuverability, and he is going to explore it to his heart's content. And he is going to be-- KYLE: It's also slower, though. IAN: He is slower, but he can slingshot himself, and that's fun. KYLE: That's true, okay. IAN: So he's going to be slightly more prone to running into things than Tangle already is. KYLE: [chuckles] IAN: Tangle, meanwhile, is gaga. She gets to be Sonic fast! Oh boy! KYLE: Oh, no. IAN: And so she proceeds to, y'know, take it out for a spin! [laughing] She's not very good at it! KYLE CROUSE: Alright, here's a question from StephCube! "I hope Whisper expands her circle of friends. I think Cream and Sonic could also be good friends with her. How do you imagine those dynamics? Would she have tea with Cream and her mother? Would she and Sonic be coordinated in battle and maybe eat some chili dogs on the way home?"

IAN FLYNN: She's friends with Sonic! It's just, Sonic understands that she doesn't like to pal around as much as his other friends. Like, everyone else, y'know, "let's go on an adventure! Let's hang out! Let's have loud, happy, boisterous times!" And Whisper, not so much. She likes her private time, she likes time away. And he respects that, and he gives her space. KYLE: That's one thing I like about this Sonic, is like... he's, like, very empathetic. He's surprisingly understanding about, y'know, letting people be who they need to be without, y'know, forcing them to do anything that they don't wanna do. IAN: Well, that's the thing, is like... Sonic is supposed to be cool. KYLE: Right. IAN: That's, like, one of his key defining traits. And what 'cool' is has changed a lot from the nineties. KYLE: Yes. IAN: So, in this day and age, 'cool' is someone who is, y'know, witty and powerful and strong, but also compassionate and caring without necessarily being all sobby about it. KYLE: Right. IAN: Y'know, he doesn't have to be- he's not gonna be gentle about things, but he will be respectful and aware of it. Um... and I- I kinda assume that Whisper knows that within that circle of friends, she's in a safe place. So she wouldn't necessarily seek out the companionship, but if Cream ran over with a crumpet and asked her for tea, she would have a hard time saying "no." KYLE: Mhm, mhm. IAN: She wouldn't necessarily be comfortable sitting out in the garden with no cover and so many obvious sniper points, and distraction by the absolutely delicious biscuits that-- "Vanilla, how do you make these? I'm getting distracted!" KYLE: [chuckling] Yeah, I like it. She's letting her guard down once in awhile, and it freaks her out! IAN: Mhm, mhm! KYLE: But, you know... maybe she eventually learns to adjust. Maybe. [sigh] Whisper's so good.
