I love the variety of outfits on this leg of the tour!

Temperatures are fluctuating quite a bit from north to south!

I love the small details, like the crochet/ lace trim on the Wales Bonner jacket (and the bespoke fabric design), the CP company shoes, the stripe down the back (and wings) on the tank top in Asunción and the Burberry tank. I love love love the blue of the Buenos Aires jacket to go with the stadium colors.

I love the pants that don’t hug his body but allow fluid expression. I love the care for details that Helen always provides.

Love vs. Hate - Part 18 // Joe Liebgott x OC

Summary: Technical Sergeant Olivia Stark knows the military. Raised in a military family, a graduate of military school and OCS herself, she is transferring from the 82nd Airborne Division to the 101st. Between new friends and what appear to be foes, she becomes a part of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR.

October 20, 1944 - Nijmegen, Holland

I follow Harry out of the shed and to the Batt CP. "Harry," I try to say something, but he ignores me. "Harry!" I say again, and he finally stops. He turns to me. "What?" "Can we talk about this?" I ask, and he grinds his jaw. "I don't see what there is to talk about." I look at my angry friend, not knowing what to say. "Come on, Harry, I..." For a moment, we look at each other. "You know, I don't currently know what makes me angrier. That you didn't tell me about it, and I had to find out that way, or that you're so foolish and negligent that they're kicking you out of the Army. Any one of the officers could have walked in there. You were lucky it was me." I bite my lips. "What was I supposed to tell you, huh? That Joe and I were overthinking our relationship? I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to put you in that situation." "Yeah, and now you have," Harry growls. "Now come on, the others are waiting."

Harry turns on his heel and trudges toward the CP. I have some making up to do. As we enter, Harry immediately stands by Moose and crosses his arms. I notice Moose glance back and forth between us briefly, then raise an eyebrow. In addition to, Moose, Nixon, Peacock, Dobie, Daniel, Shames, and Lip are present.

"Okay, listen up. There's been a change of plan. The Dutch resistance has just informed us that the Germans have asked the people living in the villages around Arnhem to leave their homes by the 22nd," Nixon says and then hands the floor to Dobie. "That's right. We will take advantage of the confusion and push the operation forward for a few days. We'll tell our people to assemble at Renkum. Then we'll take them back to this side of the Rhine in boats."

Dobie looks us in the eye one by one, and then I pick up Daniel's gaze as he eyes me and then almost imperceptibly points his head at my body. I frown and look down. I quickly realize what he means. When I got dressed, I must not have taken so much trouble, and now I realize that my jacket zipper is still open and my undershirt is not tucked into my pants. Embarrassed, I pull the jacket around me, cross my arms, and avert my eyes from Daniel. Then I rub my forehead with one hand.

"Liv?" then Moose asks, and I look up. "Yeah?" "You and Harry lead the second platoon through the middle. Get the boats across the river and back. Probably one trip won't be enough. Thomas, you go with the first one over the left side and Edward with the third over the right. Then we'll set up a cordon until Dobie and Walker return with their people." I nod and look briefly at Harry, who is still ignoring me. "Good, get your men ready for that. The action starts on the night of the 23rd. I want all the men to know exactly what to do," Moose demands, and we nod.

October 22, 1944 - Nijmegen, Holland

No sooner said than done. Over the next two days, we briefed our men on the exact plan of the operation. On the morning of the 22nd, I finally manage to catch Harry alone. He immediately wants to disappear when he sees me, but I stand in his way. He rolls his eyes and then leans against the barn wall behind him before crossing his arms.

Annoyed, I look at him. "How long are you going to stay mad at me?" I ask, and he shrugs. "Come on, Harry, I thought we were friends," I say then, and now he looks me in the eye. "I thought so too, but it seems we're not." "Just because I didn't tell you? I didn't even know myself for a long time what it was that Joe and I were doing." "Is that what you think this is about for me?" Now Harry takes a step toward me. "I'm not concerned with what you two are doing; I'm concerned with how stupid you two are acting when you do it! I don't want to have to go through this shit without you because you've been dishonorably discharged!"

"You won't," I say, and he looks at me. "How do you know?" "I... I don't know, but I will try not to be so stupid anymore." "You better!"

Then I take out the flask Harry gave me after Carentan. "Peace?" I ask, holding it out to him. He looks at me for a moment before taking the flask from my hand. "For now," he grumbles.

Daniel joins me again that evening as we're on our way to the river. I look at him, but he says nothing at first. "He's a lucky man," he says after a while, and I look at him, confused. "Huh?" "The soldier you're enjoying yourself with?" "Come again?" I ask then, looking at him now rather shocked. "I'm sorry, I just thought... When we had the briefing. It was kind of obvious." I'm silent for a moment, processing his words. What the hell!!! Then I turn back to the front and stubbornly keep walking. I really don't have to put up with this.

"I'm sorry, Liv. I didn't mean to offend you." "Well, you have. I don't know exactly who the hell you think you are, insinuating that I'm sleeping with one of my soldiers." The grip on my rifle tightens. "That's fair, and I want to apologize sincerely. But still, I meant well. The man who gets to be by your side can consider himself really lucky." Now I look at Daniel again. "Well, then, this lucky man will have to be patient," I say sarcastically. "Since fraternizing is forbidden among soldiers. And I'm a soldier, even if I'm a woman, and I don't intend to get kicked out of the army for something like that." "Is what you say, yeah. But I don't believe you." "Why would I care what you believe and what you don't?" "Well, as far as I'm concerned... I find you interesting, Liv, in a good way...And I really want to know what I'm dealing with." "What you're dealing with?" "My competition." I look at him in shock.

Daniel grabs my arm and pulls me closer to him. "I will find out who you are seeing, Liv. And when I do, I will take him down." I pull my arm back and glare at him. "Good luck with that."

I don't talk to him any further as we get closer and closer to the river. "Liv!" I then hear Moose call quietly after me, and he waves me forward. I catch up to him. "Yes, sir?" I whisper back, looking at the river glistening slightly in the moonlight. "We'll cross the river and secure the line as discussed." I nod and signal the boys before we get into the boats.

Hoping the Krauts don't spot us, we quietly make our way across the river. When we arrive, I turn to the others. "Secure the line," I relay to Bill, who tells the others. I continue to crawl forward with Moose, Col. Dobie, and Daniel before we kneel. In front of us is a line of bushes where I can't see anything. Suddenly, Joe comes up to us. "Line secure, sir," he whispers, and Moose nods. "Fall back into position," he returns, and Joe looks at me briefly before returning to the men.

"You too, Liv," Moose says, looking at me. I nod and then kneel next to Joe. Nervously, I look around. Somehow it's just too quiet. Suddenly I feel Joe unobtrusively reach for my hand and squeeze it. I look at him in surprise. "Take care of yourself, will you?" he whispers almost tonelessly, and I nod. Then something moves in front of us, and I raise my rifle. Then Moose turns to us and gives us hand signals. "That's the Brits," I whisper, and Harry kneels beside me. "The first Squad is bringing the first convoy across the river. 2nd and 3rd Squad hold the line," he says, and I nod before walking between the men. "Frist Squad, bring as many as you can across the river. Second and third, secure the line!"

The British soldiers approach us, and we begin to fill the boats. "Come on, come on," I hiss to no one in particular, glancing nervously over my shoulder. When the boats finally take to the water, I breathe a quick sigh of relief, but when they're about halfway in, I hear a familiar sound.

"Fuck!" I curse and look up. Probably a few hundred meters away, a mortar rises into the air and lands in the water. Relieved, I look up as the mortar explodes in the water. I exchange a look with Lip, who has come over and kneels next to me. "They know we're here," I say, and Lip nods. "I think so too," he replies, and we exchange a look.

A little later, as the second wagon is on its way, we hear gunshots in the distance. I try to make something out in the darkness, but the gunfire is too far away. "That should be the patrol," Lip whispers, and I nod. "Let's hope nothing happened." As the boats come back again, Moose rejoins us. "Liv, that's the last of them. Get your platoon back over and then let's get out of here," he whispers, and I nod. "Done."

A big party is going on in the barn. Colonel Dobie has organized champagne and beer for everyone. Laughing, I stand next to Don, Skip, and Muck, and we toast. "Would have thought it would be harder, to be honest," Skip says, and I look at him. "I'm sure the Krauts knew we were there," I say to my friends. "You think?" asks Don, looking at me. "Mmm... But they were scared." "Yeah, because we're so scary, sweetheart," Penk laughs, and I nudge him.

Suddenly, Dobie rises in front, and we turn our attention to him. He raises the bottle he's holding and looks at all of us. "Moose and the American 101st have done the Red Devils a great service. Making it possible for us to return and fight the enemy another day," he shouts. Don puts an arm around my shoulders and happily pulls me to him. Suddenly I notice Daniel's gaze on me. I hold his gaze for a moment. But then I turn my gaze back to Dobie. "To Easy Company, victory, and Currahee!" he calls. "Currahee!" we return in chorus.

Don keeps his arm around my shoulders as Skip brings us each something new to drink. "What's the limey staring at?" I hear Joe ask, who has joined us, and I look briefly at him and then again at Daniel. The latter is still looking at me. "Just ignore him." "Hey, Alton," Don calls, taking his arms off my shoulder and walking over to More, whom he has just spotted.

Joe takes another step toward me. "What's going on, Liv?" he whispers in my ear, and I look him in the eye. I look around briefly to ensure all the officers are busy and then at Daniel, who is now talking to Dobie before I pull Joe behind me by the sleeve.

Outside, I look at him. "Walker... The captain under Dobie? He thinks I have a thing with one of the men," I explain to Joe. The latter raises his eyebrows. "Which isn't wrong," he says, and I slap his chest, "That's not the point! I think there's something wrong with him." Joe lights two cigarettes and holds one out to me. I take it and take a big drag. "What do you mean?" asks Joe then. "Well, he was nice enough at first, but he's creepy. He said he'd take down the man I'm seeing. Somehow he's delusional that he has a chance with me."

Joe pulls closer to me and puts a hand on my hip. "And does he?" Amused, I look at him before shrugging my shoulders. "I guess you're lucky I don't go for limeys or lunatics," I laugh. Joe leans in and starts kissing my neck. "Joe," I say admonishingly. "Shall we get out of here?" he murmurs into my neck, and I close my eyes for a moment. But then I tear them open again and take a step away from him.

"I promised Harry we wouldn't act stupid or negligent, Joe. And if Daniel's snooping around here, it's probably not the best idea..." Joe takes a step back and scratches the back of his head. "You're probably right." "Hey," I say, putting a hand on his chest. "It's not like the Brits will be with us forever," I whisper. He nods. I listen very briefly and then give him a quick kiss, making him grin. "You really are a sly one, Liv." He looks at me for another moment before hearing noises from the door. Joe winks at me and then disappears into the shadows of darkness.

Stumbling out of the door comes none other than Daniel. Phu, that was close. I take a drag on my smoke, cross my arms, and then look at him with a raised eyebrow. " Can I help you with something?" I ask, annoyed, and he looks around but can't spot anyone. "What are you doing out here?" he asks, looking at me. "Having a smoke. Enjoying the peace." "All alone?" I nod before pushing past him.

October 30, 1944 - Nijmegen, Holland

"You wanted to see me, Captain?" I ask, directed at Dick as I enter his office. When I see who is all standing inside, I am visibly confused. There's Dick, Nixon, Moose, Daniel, and Col. Sink. "Sir," I say immediately and salute him, to which he replies. "At ease, sergeant," he then says. At first, no one says anything, and I'm still looking at their faces in confusion. Suddenly, there is a knock on the door, and Don comes in, confusing me even more. I look briefly at Daniel, who has a smug smile on his face.

Don also looks at me, confused, and salutes the officers. "Dick," Sink then prompts him. "I suppose you two are wondering why you are here?" Dick then begins, and Don and I nod. "Well, we have reason to believe that you two have disobeyed an important rule that is essential in the military," he continues. Somehow I get the feeling that he is not comfortable even saying this.

Again, my gaze wanders to Daniel, and I suspect evil. "Permission to speak, sir," Don says beside me, and Dick nods. "And what exactly was this rule supposed to be that we disobeyed?" Dick takes a deep breath. "The charge was fraternizing among soldiers." Don and I exchange a shocked look before we can't help but laugh. "You can't be serious, right, sir?" I ask, earning me a nasty look from Sink. "Sir, so you think that Liv and I...? That we...?" begins Don, barely able to stifle a laugh. The corner of Dick's mouth automatically moves up a little, confirming that he thinks it's just as ridiculous as we do.

"Captain, you've known Sergeant Malarkey and me since our first day at Camp Toccoa, and Lieutenant Heyliger has known us for a long time, too. I think you know by now what kind of relationship the two of us have, sir," I say, and Dick nods. Now Sink interjects. "Captain Walker? Anything you'd like to add?" "I'm sorry, Colonel. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here. I've been watching Sergeant Stark and Sergeant Malarkey, and I have serious reason to believe there's more going on." I bite my lips. "With all due respect, sir," I turn to Sink. "Sergeant Malarkey and I are friends. We have been from the beginning. He's like a brother to me."

"Colonel Sink?" now Nixon interjects. "I'd like to add something. Sergeant Stark is absolutely right. The two of them have been friends from the beginning and have given neither us, Captain Sobel, or Lieutenant Meehan any reason to believe otherwise," he says, and I nod my thanks. "I have no reason to believe otherwise either, sir," Moose adds.

Sink considers for a moment. Then he shakes his head. "Very well. Since we have no hard evidence, we'll let this subject rest. You may go, sergeants," he says to us. We salute and then leave the office.

"What an idiot! What the hell does he think he's doing?" I exclaim when Don and I are outside. "What the fuck was that about?" asks Don, also confused. "Oh, come on, you saw for yourself that that didn't come from Winters or Moose. The only one blamed is that damn Walker!" "And what does he get out of it?" asks Don. "He thinks that's how he gets to me. He probably doesn't think that ar, that if he takes down the soldier, I seem to be seeing, he'll take me right down, too."

"He's nuts," Don says, and I nod in agreement. "I'll be glad when we finally get rid of them; I can tell you that!"

"Liv! Don!" We hear someone call out and see Dick coming toward us. "Sir?" we both say. "I wanted to apologize about the whole thing." "Yeah? What the hell was that?" I ask. "Well, Captain Walker felt that you two were involved with each other and went to Sink with it. Ignoring such an accusation from a captain would not be wise, which is why we had to do this. Of course, we're all aware of your relationship with each other." "Thank you, sir," Don says, nodding to Winters.

"I trust both of you, and so does Moose! You're important to the company, don't forget that. Losing someone over an accusation like that would be extremely foolish," Dick then says, looking at me in particular. I bite my lips. "Understood, sir," I then say, nodding at him. He does the same and then walks back to his office.
