Endlich bin ich nach Hause.

Late arrival (2230) at BAH last night meant a late night for me.
Flights went well, aside from a scare the morning of departure that my connect to Germany had been canceled. Lufthansa re-booked me for another flight same day so no worries, except I had to be downgraded to economy (I'd booked Premium Economy roundtrip). It won't bad...a steady supply of Beck's in-flight made up for it (and the baby that apparently was being murdered further up the plane). Oh and there was a Hot Flight Attendant™ who was serving some excellent eye candy and his German made me feel things. United Airlines' app made the experience super fuckin' easy and I gotta say, for my first time flying international (MAC doesn't count 'cause it operates differently), it was a lot less intimidating than I thought and an unusually enjoyable experience.
Leave was good aside from some of the fam being sick (I am not). Glad I was able to catch a Norfolk Admirals game, despite them being shutout, and that there was decent enough weather for me to some pew pew therapy. But I'm really glad I was able to visit/harass/reconnect with my German teacher (an Actual German™) from high school, who I've kept in touch with ever since, as my schedule often doesn't allow that. She's retired now so maybe I can work that out more easily. Anyway she told me my German was still very good, which gave me rainbows in my soul, 'cause I was worried it had gone to shit since I don't have any way of practicing my speaking. And yes I 100% put "Dicke Titten" on her stereo and sang along after probably my 4th glass of real German riesling. Our texts are a random mixture of English and German, sometimes in the same sentence, and I love that.
Bae has been an old man and slept a lot today while I did some errands and paid the rent. Typical officer. My leave ends this weekend, but my watch team isn't scheduled to work, so I got some extra time to regulate to Bahrain time and the night shift schedule.

Hi. I wanted to know how you travel to grand prixs. Like how do you book tickets and flights and hotels, financial planning, travel planning etc. Do you save up for them or are you aware of cheaper ticket deals.
under the cut :)
grand prix tickets
Book through the official website as much as possible. I know some people who buy last minute cause prices drop, but this will depend if the grand prix is in-demand.
Try to avoid resale unless you are desperate.
(I bought my Singapore GP tickets the minute it came out with 10 mins to spare before I boarded my plane out of LA 😭)
flights
Skyscanner.com is my best friend! I use it to check fluctuations in ticket prices and get notifications about changes, and then I book through the airlines' website. Try to book the same airline as much as you can or with the same alliance (ie Star Alliance - United, Air Canada, Air New Zealand etc.) so you can accumulate mileage points and use them for future travels.
Some credit cards accumulate mileage points as well so check into that.
hotels
booking.com or airbnb.
It's not for everyone but I usually stay in hostels and I always have so much fun. During grand prix week, most of the people at the hostel will be going to the race as well so you will all have a common interest!
financial planning
Go to races closest to you. It will save you so much money. Unless you live in Europe I guess 😭 (but usually they are cheaper)
North America - COTA, Miami, Vegas, Canada, Mexico and Brazil
Asia/Oceania - Australia, Singapore, China and Japan. Also Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Jeddah, Bahrain. Maybe Azerbaijan too.
Figure out what races you wanna go to for the next year and make sure you save up! I was only planning on going to 3 races this year but because of the mental illness here we are, unfortunately.
Set aside money for food and transportation during the trip and budget wisely. (From Nagoya to Suzuka, I think I spent at least $50/day for transportation x 4 days = $200) (Getting to and from Kansai Airport (to and from Nagoya) cost me about nearly $250). If you can bring food to the circuit, try to bring some. Food at the circuit will cost above normal prices.
My general workflow for buying tickets is
grand prix tickets (motivates me to work 😭) -> accommodation (to avoid price surging. if you book through booking.com they give you an option to cancel even up until 3 days before your stay) -> flights as the last one (but don't buy last minute!)

Ok let me explain
How truly crazy I am.
I had a flight to Kansas City to see my lovely friend, in order to maintain our long distance friendship. I bought a plane ticket for $200, even though it is only a 5 hour drive away from where I live, even though my stay was only two nights. I am aware that choosing the illogic inefficient route reveals me as a weakie.
We were all seated on the plane and I was about to fall asleep because it was 4am. I was dreaming about having brunch with my friend upon arrival. But after a while I realized we had not moved, and they announced the flight was delayed.
People clomped with irritation back into the airport. Some people sat in the waiting area, and some people formed a line at the front desk. But I didn’t want to wait because I’m tech savvy and know how to expedite things using the internet, and not a weakie. I called American Airlines to change my flight to a different airline leaving from my airport. The person on the phone and I were both calm and softspoken, in a way that acknowledged that her job was probably not ever chill.
She began to switch me to a United flight, but then the call dropped. I called again. My new collaborator declared switching me was not possible. I don’t like to correct people so I concurred, said goodbye, and hung up. I called again, still calm. New voice put me on hold to ask her supervisor. I observed that some people had moved through the front desk. They did not tell others their results, whether waiting in line was worthy or not. It wasn’t a secret, but to find out you would have to have to inquire, and likely that would have to be a whole conversation, since they are not faceless bots that answer when you push a button, and these types of struggles are individual anyways, any advice would require listening to unnecessary context. Dunno, they would say, my situation is different from yours. I joined in line for the front desk, curious what secret remedy it provided but not willing to ask.
There are always a million solutions for every problem, and I wanted to test them all at once. While in line, the voice on the phone said I could get a flight arriving by 5pm. I told her I might be able to get an earlier flight via the front desk. I told her I would call her back. All around me people began lamenting that their phones told them the flight was delayed to 6pm!!!! This they were willing to share.
The line was not moving. Solution numero 5. Walk up to another desk for the next flight to Kansas City. I asked the woman at the desk if there was room, and she told me the flight had just filled up, a flight had been cancelled, had I heard. Apparently not quickly enough.
I got an email that said my flight was changed to 5pm. But now I am thinking, I do not want another cancelled flight, and if I start driving now I will get there at 12pm in time for brunch. Because I was fueled by anger, I thought I had the courage to drive. I went out to the departure desk to cancel and refund my ticket!!!!!!! And they did thank god bless them!!!!!! Best solution achieved!!!!
Then it started SNOWING.
I went back in line and asked them if it was possible to undo my cancellation.
People working at the desks were very annoyed. Justifiably. I was directed to another person, who put an end to my shenanigans. He said, we can do it but it will take a while to sort out. He said, that’s what happens with your messing around with the system.
He clicked around and asked me if I had a boyfriend. I said, why? He said, take me with you, because I’m cleaning up all your problems and know how to and that’s what a good boyfriend does. I said, oh trust me my boyfriend KNOWS I’m MESSy
as if that was a winning retort.
He printed my new tickets and said it arrives in Kansas City at 11pm. I winced and he said please understand these are the only spots left. I said, yes yes thank you I for sure understand thank you it’s GREAT. You’ve been so kind and informative and I know the people here have been impatient and each one endlessly frustrating in their own ways, everyone knew how to help themselves but no one knew how to help each other, so thank you. He said, “I assigned you first class as well.”
In conclusion I am not better than anyone. In fact I am worse.
My seat, 1A. Packaged green olives, white cheddar chips, chocolate covered pretzels, small slices of cheese, a healthy dose of quiet reflection time wherein I thought about whether or not I had made a single good decision today. I accepted them all.

fuck southwest airlines, by the way
there is no weather happening at the current origin or destination, which means my flight today was cancelled because you can't get enough planes from other destinations
i think as a barely-international airline, you should know MORE than an hour before a flight departs that you aren't going to be able to get a plane here. in fact, I think you should probably know the schedule and predicted weather at least 3-4 hours in advance of the flight taking off so that schmucks like me can be saved from having to make their second trip to the airport in two days, check their bag, and even get past security and sit down at the gate before being told (JUST BECAUSE I HAPPENED TO CHECK THE APP) that my flight was cancelled.
this would give you the added bonus of saving yourself the embarrassment when other airlines actually do have planes and are taking off from the same airport to similar destinations and have your employees not have to explain to grumpy passengers who say "well UNITED is flying right now, blah blah blah is flying right now, why aren't YOU flying right now"
I am tired and frustrated and I am fucking never flying out of eugene around christmas ever again, christ

Chicago
4 April
Helen dropped us at the airport. Thanks Helen!
Our original plan was to fly Auckland to Chicago on Air NZ, which would have been delightful. Almost non-stop! Sadly, Air NZ cancelled its Chicago route four weeks before our flight dates, and we had to fly Auckland to Houston and Houston to Chicago. The flight to Houston (~13 hours) was relatively tolerable, but the slog through TSA (Transportation Safety Authority) took a lot out of us. On our United Airlines flight (~2.4 hours) to Chicago, first the captain was late, then we arrived late, which meant we were banished to what seemed to be the furthest most arrival gate at the airport.
After quarter of an hour trying to buy a train pass (only for the nice ticket man to take pity on us and wave us through), we were about an hour on the train from O'Hare airport to the centre of Chicago, which felt like an aeon. With the jetlag, we were befuddled by a residual sense of NZ time (it should have been mid afternoon) vs our exhaustion, vs local Chicago time (getting on for 10PM). It was also approximately 0 degrees (in mid Spring? What is this place, Siberia?), which was a bit hard to take.
But you know, that's travel. Our hotel, is called Stay Pineapple (an Iconic (TM) hotel, apparently), is an old-fashioned Chicago building, right in the middle of the downtime city. Now it's time to sleep.
5 April
The beds at the Pineapple were magnificent. So soft… my only complaint is that sleep comes so quickly it's impossible to properly enjoy them.
Our first item of business was to visit the Wildberry waffle house not far from the shore of Lake Michigan. On the way there we saw the world-famous Bean, a giant mirror-coated sculpture that enables tourists to photograph themselves on its surface. It was closed for renovation, which Sally chose to take personally.
At the Wildberry we went ape. I ordered the French Toast, Sally the strawberry chocolate Belgian waffles, and Angus the Oreo pancakes. Angus' pancakes were garnished with so much Oreo and white chocolate chip shrapnel that it turned out to be the most formidable meal. The food was tasty but the quantity of it made the consumption a bit heavy going.
After breakfast we caught a bus up to Lincoln Zoo. The zoo looked quite small from the oustide, but had plenty of inmates. Angus' highlight was probably the squirrels outside the zoo, but he did like the Madagascar hissing cockroaches inside it too. Sally was definitely not a fan of the cockroaches, instead preferring the polar bears. Other animals of note: zebras, lowland gorillas, a Bactrian camel, a rattlesnake or two, and a kookaburra. Animals that didn't come outside: two species of rhino, a pygmy hippo, and half an anteater. Also MIA was the sloth Angus had been very much looking forward to seeing.
Lunch was another novelty: all you can eat sushi. It went reasonably well with small pieces of tuna and salmon but when we ordered the "Godzilla" sushi (tempura outside and cream cheesy center) I hit a bit of a wall, esp after the waffle house.
We caught the bus back into town. Jetlag had caught up with us, so we had a bit of a nap. At 5 we ventured out. In the chill of the morning the sky had been overcast, but it was now a bright blue, and the setting sun on the skyscrapers was very attractive indeed. We walked along the river path and took quie a few photos, all of which we were very happy to be posing for.
After sugar for breakfast and protein for lunch, dinner was sandwiches out of a Walgreens, along with a bag of mandarins and Magnolia bakery's banana pudding.
6 April
Today we set out late morning to Wilmette, in the north of Chicago. To get there we needed to travel to the end of the Red Line, and then the extent of the Purple Line of Chicago's "L" (elevated) train service.
Along the way we passed Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Generally the cityscape was dominated by midrise brick apartment blocks, with the odd mall sprinkled in. On the purple line, however, the housing grew more suburban, and the houses increasingly grand.
We'd come to visit the Ba'hai faith Temple, an imposing piece of 20th century architecture. I was a bit leery of Ba'hai as one of our neighbours once fell in to it and ran away from her husband (so my mother told me in hushed tones). So as we approached the visitors' centre I was a bit suspicious. But to be honest the tone of the place was pretty benign; the main message being all religions are one, and all humans are equal. In any event I found their bathroom very relaxing, so I'll say I'm a fan, if not a convert.
The Ba'hai temple was built over 50 years in the first part of the 20th century. It's an imposing building of white concrete studded with quartz chips to make it glitter. Although the building was festooned with the symbols of all the world's great religions, it was most reminiscent of a mosque. I guess the most similar building I've been to would be the Haghia Sophia in Constantinople. The inside of the temple was austere like a Prostestant church, but the dome was again exquisitely carved with patterns like concentric waves.
After visiting the temple we pottered around on the beach of Lake Michigan, enjoying the novelty of looking out over what looks like the sea, but is actually a freshwater lake.
We trundled back to Chicago the way we came. We got out at Chinatown, where we collected a series of snacks from a Cantonese bakery called Chiu Quon. We then caught a water taxi up the Chicago river. It was Golden Hour and we took numerous photos of numerous skyscrapers, before coming home for the night.
7 April
Today was rainy, so it was museum day. The first thing we did was catch a bus to Lou Mitchell's, a hundred year old diner. Gus had pancakes, Sally had a salmon bagel, and I had toast, Sally's bagel, and Gus' pancakes. Gus also got a chocolate shake so thick that it was practically concrete, but much tastier, and half the price of a Starbucks frappe.
From there we caught the 146 bus on to the Field museum, one of the world's greats. The Field's most famous specimen is Sue the T-Rex, the largest of all the Tyrannosaurus skellingtons. It's a sprawling museum, with its Natural History exhibits being the best, though it also has collections of Egyptian, Chinese, and Native American arts.
After several hours at the museum we caught a bus back to town. It was raining heavily and we got quite drenched. Our next stop was a Lou Malnati's Pizzeria (another Lou!) to consume Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. Given the quantities of food we'd been served already I was a bit perturbed we were going to be given portions we couldn't possibly consume, but they turned out to be plausible. As for deep dish pizzas, well I'd liken them to quiches where the egg is replaced with cheese. We had ordered four adult portions, and I managed to eat one portion, but Sally and Gus were well off the pace, and we took home only slightly less than we consumed.
(On the subject of meals, we found that two meals a day in Chicago were sufficient to keep us going.)
The rain had eased, so we decided to wander back to our hotel room. I found downtown Chicago's streets on a rainy Sunday afternoon to be quite peaceful. We came back to our hotel and got to packing and blogging.
8 April
Today was eclipse day! The shadow of the moon was set to wander across the United States. Appropriately, our first port of call in the morning was the Adler Planetarium, a magnificent Art Deco, polished granite construction. Outside it is a heroic statue of Nicolas Copernicus.
We got inside, bought our eclipse glasses, and got Gus an eclipse souvenir t-shirt, before taking a look around at the planetarium proper. The most interesting exhibit for me was centred around astronaut Jim Lovell, who went to the moon twice, but didn't land there because his Apollo 13 mission got into a bit of bother. The exhibit included his earlier two-man Gemini 12 capsule, which was very, very small. He flew for three days with moon-walker Buzz Aldrin, which seems an awfully long time to be stuck in a tin can with another man!
We then went to a planetarium session. Over the years I've been to a few at the Carter Observatory, and I can say Adler's one is a lot more slick (sorry Space Place!). The auditorium was pretty large too.
After that it was time for the eclipse itself. A large collection of people and TV trucks had gathered along the Michigan lakefront adjacent to the Adler. We found a seat by a small beach and peered up through our eclipse glasses. It was my first time seeing the sun through these, and I was impressed by how strongly defined the sun was against the (relative) darkness around it. Eventually Gus spotted a small dimple in the right lower limb of the sun, which marked the moon's presence. The eclipse proceeded to its maximum extent over about two hours, allowing us to do other things while occasionally peering skywards to check the moon's progress. One thing we were able to do was buy several Chicago-style hotdogs. Distinct from their New York cousins, these sandwiches include pickle and peppers. I thought they were pretty good, and I joked to Sally that there was more vegetable matter in these hotdogs that in anything else we'd eaten in Chicago. No offence!
Just after 2pm the eclipse reached its maximum. In Chicago that was 94% of the sun's surface only. On paper that feels like "good enough", and there was only a tiny fingernail clipping still visiable, but suprisingly 6% of the sun's brightness makes a big difference. The sky was still blue, for example. and although the sky was much dimmmer a casual observer might not have noticed the eclipse was happening.
Once we reached maximum, the rest was just what we'd already been through except in reverse, and we had a plane to catch. So we skipped the rest of the cosmic marvel and hurried back to our hotel to collect our bags. On the way we caught a section of the L train that is actually elevated above the streets rather than trundling beneath them. Bags collected, we caught the blue line back to O'Hare airport for an early evening flight to Iceland.

Flights cancelled as regulator grounds Boeing 737 Max 9s over blowout

BBC News
Thousands of passengers face flight cancellations as major airlines grounded dozens of Boeing jets after a mid-flight blowout over Oregon.
The US aviation regulator said 171 Boeing 737 Max 9s must be grounded for checks after part of an Alaska Airlines plane’s fuselage fell off on Friday.
Alaska said about 23,000 passengers had flights cancelled on Saturday, with further disruption expected.
United Airlines has grounded all 79 of its Max 9 planes.
Many other airlines which also fly the planes have temporarily taken them out of service.
It follows regulator Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordering “immediate inspections” of 737 Max 9s worldwide.
Required inspections would take around four to eight hours per aircraft, it said.
Boeing said it welcomed the FAA’s decision, adding its teams were in close contact with the regulator.
During Friday’s incident, Alaska Airlines flight 1282 from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, reached 16,000ft (4,876m) when it began an emergency descent, according to flight tracking data.
Passengers on board said a large section of the plane’s outer shell fell to the ground shortly after take-off.
Images sent to news outlets show the night sky and lights of Portland visible through the gap in the fuselage, with insulation material and other debris also seen.
One passenger said the gap was “as wide as a refrigerator” while another said a child’s shirt was ripped off in the wind as the plane made its emergency landing.

The plane, carrying 177 passengers and crew, landed safely back in Portland. Alaska said several passengers were injured, but not seriously.
“My heart goes out to those who were on this flight – I am so sorry for what you experienced,” Alaska’s CEO Ben Minicucci said after the firm volunteered to ground 65 of its 737 Max 9 planes.
“I am so grateful for the response of our pilots and flight attendants,” he added.
Alaska later said that, as of Saturday afternoon, it had cancelled 160 flights.
The airline said on Saturday that 18 of its Max 9 planes – about a quarter – had received “in-depth inspections as part of heavy maintenance checks” and were returned to service, but following the FAA’s orders these have since been “pulled from service”.
“We are in touch with the FAA to determine what, if any, further work is required before these aircraft are returned to service,” Alaska said in a statement.
It added: “The aircraft involved in flight 1282 was delivered to us on 31 October. The part of the aircraft involved in this event is called a plug door – a specific panel of the fuselage near the rear of the aircraft.”
United Airlines says it has carried out the inspections required by the FAA on some of its 737 Max 9 planes.
Removing some of its aircraft from service was expected to cause about 60 cancellations on Saturday, the airline said in a statement.
Turkish Airlines has grounded five of its 737 Max 9s.
Reuters
Flydubai said its three 737 Max 9s were not affected as they had a “different configuration with mid-aft cabin exits” compared to the Alaska Airline planes and have completed recent safety checks.
British regulator Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said there are no registered Boeing 737 Max 9 planes in the UK and therefore the impact would be “minimal”.
“We have written to all non-UK and foreign permit carriers to ask for confirmation that inspections have been undertaken prior to any operation into UK airspace,” a CAA spokesman said.
In the US, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken charge of the Alaska investigation and its chair confirmed no passenger had been sat next to the affected section.
“We are very, very fortunate here that this didn’t end up in something more tragic,” Jennifer Homendy said.
Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for the plug door, which they believe fell to the ground in the community of Cedar Hills, about 11 km (seven miles) west of central Portland.
Boeing’s 737 Max has been described as “the most scrutinised transport aircraft in history” after a series of safety issues.
The Max was grounded in March 2019 for a year-and-a-half after two of the type crashed in similar circumstances to each other killing those on board.
Aviation expert John Strickland said the Alaska Airlines incident was very different to those crashes, adding that since the 737 Max came back into service it had “an enormous safety record”.
“While we know little evidence of why this section of the fuselage has come out – this has nothing to do with the aircraft being grounded for 18 months,” he told BBC News.
“But, it is natural Alaska Airlines is taking a cautious approach grounding its fleet”
More recently, Boeing said it would increase the pace of 737 Max deliveries after resolving a supply error that required it to conduct lengthy inspections of new planes and its inventory.
About 1,300 737 Max aircraft have been delivered to customers, Boeing data shows.
Last month, the FAA urged airlines to inspect Max models for a possible loose bolt in rudder control systems.

A U.S. security researcher is warning of a chilling effect after he was detained on arrival at a U.S. airport, his phone was searched, and was ordered to testify to a grand jury, only to have prosecutors reverse course and drop the investigation later. On Wednesday, Sam Curry, a security engineer at blockchain technology company Yuga Labs, said in a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, that he was taken into secondary inspection by U.S. federal agents on September 15 after returning from a trip to Japan. Curry said agents with the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) unit and the Department of Homeland Security questioned him at Dulles International Airport in Washington DC about a “high profile phishing campaign,” searched his unlocked phone, and served him with a grand jury subpoena to testify in New York the week after. According to a photo of the subpoena that Curry posted, the grand jury was investigating wire fraud and money laundering. But Curry said he later received confirmation that the copy of his device data was deleted and the grand jury subpoena was canceled once prosecutors realized that Curry was investigating the theft of crypto, and not involved in it. In a post, Curry said that in December 2022 he discovered that scammers had inadvertently exposed their Ethereum private key in the source code of a phishing website that had stolen millions of dollars worth of crypto. Curry said he imported the key to his own crypto wallet to see if there was anything left in the alleged scammers’ wallet, but that he found the key “five minutes too late and the stolen assets were gone.” Curry said he was “on my home IP address and obviously not attempting to conceal my identity as I was simply investigating this.” “We normally take this approach where it’s seeing if there’s anything we can do to help. And then if we can’t, obviously we can’t. It’s tricky, because there are so many of these phishing campaigns,” Curry told TechCrunch in a phone call. Curry said that the feds had requested the authorization logs from crypto marketplace OpenSea, which Curry used to check the contents of the scammers’ wallet. Those logs included Curry’s home IP address. Curry accused the feds of using his arrival to the U.S. “as an excuse to ask for my device and summon me to a grand jury, rather than just email me or something.” “I’m sharing this because I think it’s something people should be aware of if they’re doing similar work. It was widely shared that the private key was leaked and my background as a security researcher wasn’t enough to dissuade using immigrations and a grand jury to intimidate me,” Curry said in his post. Curry is a widely known security researcher, whose work has helped to discover flaws in airline rewards programs, connected vehicles, and helped to uncover security weaknesses at Apple, and Starbucks. Curry said was flying into Washington DC to attend an election security research forum set up by U.S. cybersecurity agency CISA to audit U.S. voting machines. After he was released from the airport, he spoke to his attorney, who told the federal investigators that Curry was investigating the incident as part of routine work as a security researcher. Upon my return to the United States from a trip to Japan, I was directed to a secondary inspection room where I was presented with a Grand Jury subpoena by officers from the IRS-CI and DHS. The subpoena required me to appear in New York to provide testimony for wire fraud. 🧵 pic.twitter.com/VrxiKZpfgS — Sam Curry (@samwcyo) September 27, 2023 In a call, Curry told TechCrunch he understood why the feds were investigating the incident, but criticized their approach. “The thing I will give credit for is if in any other circumstance somebody has the private key, someone who’s obviously done a multimillion dollar phishing scam, and use that private key to sign in to OpenSea, yeah, I think it is a little suspicious and that’s like definitely something to investigate,” said Curry.
“They had a manila folder with my photo and my Twitter and all my social media, and I would have assumed that they would have looked into it a little bit,” said Curry. “Even just a brief read — just who I am and what I do — I feel it would have cleared things up a lot.” While he believes the legal demand is resolved, Curry said that he “felt dirty” when the feds handed back his phone after searching its contents. U.S. authorities can search a person’s phone at the border without a warrant, including Americans, though the law is less clear on whether a person must comply. Only U.S. citizens cannot be denied entry for not complying, but they can have their devices seized indefinitely. Nicholas Biase, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where the grand jury subpoena was filed, declined to comment when reached Wednesday. Terry Lemons, a spokesperson for the IRS-CI, the criminal investigative arm of the U.S. tax authority known for probing crypto thefts, did not return a request for comment. It’s not unheard of for U.S. authorities to target security researchers or journalists with threats of prosecution or other kinds of legal process to compel testimony, like grand juries, which convene in secret to determine if formal criminal charges should be brought against a person. The relationship between U.S. authorities and the security community has largely improved in recent years as both attitudes towards good-faith hackers and the legal landscape for security researchers have changed for the better. But instances like this threaten to weaken the trust built in recent years by disincentivizing researchers from engaging in security defense and remediation if they think their actions could be prosecuted. In the last few years, security researchers have taken matters into their own hands during thefts and hacking campaigns that target and steal cryptocurrencies. In the crypto world, this is called “white hatting,” a term that refers to the traditional distinction between black hats, cybercriminals or hackers who hack with malicious or illegal intent, and white hats, researchers and hackers who operate with no criminal or ill intent. But accessing a victim’s wallet — even a scammer’s wallet — in an attempt to recover funds falls in “a real gray area” of the law, former prosecutor Elizabeth Roper told Motherboard last year. “If it ends up saving everyone, every user on the platform and a bunch of money and the person who did it kind of immediately discloses it,” Roper said, “maybe we wouldn’t use our resources to prosecute that person, but again it depends on the specific case.” Source

Flights from Houston to Atlanta
Tumblr media
Atlanta is the capital city of Georgia. It was a key player in the Civil War as well as the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Atlanta History Centre documents the city's history, while the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site focuses on the life and times of the African-American leader. The Georgia Aquarium is located in the heart of downtown.

 Places to visit in Atlanta
Atlanta botanical gardens
Tumblr media
Many varieties of plants and well-kept gardens. I enjoyed all the spots to sit and enjoy nature, especially the pond that had cool origami vessels in it. Cool was seeing all the other metal origami throughout the gardens.
Although I enjoyed the overlook walkway, my friend who is afraid to scale heights had trouble with it. It was extremely hot. There weren't many cool indoor areas. However, there were shady spots to be found. I enjoyed the live music.
Zoo Atlanta
Tumblr media
Atlanta Zoo is working hard at modernizing exhibits and utilizing the land they acquired. They have some great exhibits such as the Giant Pandas and the area for the baboons. Even though we didn't see an elephant there, the new elephant Centre was spectacular.
This was the first week of March. The giraffes, elephants, and other animals were not out. No orangutans out. No rhinos. However, the giant pandas, lions and tigers, as well as the baboons, giant pandas and red pandas were all visible.
You can see more than what I described at the Zoo. Reptile house, monkeys and play areas are just a few examples.
Fox theatre
Visitor and native alike will love the Fox Theater. All ages will enjoy historical information presented in a fun manner. It's fascinating to see the "back" of the house and its inner workings.
Martin Luther king Jr.
Tumblr media
In the visitor center, you will find a video and a museum. The final resting spot of MLK, Mrs. King and an eternal flame is located just across the street. Just across the street is MLK's birth home, the gift shop, as well as the famous fire station. They're all easily accessible.
For a tour of the birth home, tickets must be reserved at the visitor Centre. You can book tours at the visitor center every 30 minutes, or an hour depending on your day. Tours are available from 9am-4pm.
It took between 35 and 40 minutes to complete the tour, which was extremely informative. King's 95-year-old sister owns the home and it is still in perfect condition. The buildings were worth the time and we spent 2 hours there.
