Capture of Demons in Lanka
With the help of his army of monkeys, Rama's invasion of Lanka is successful. Rama and his brother Lakshmana are depicted seated under a tree at left, as monkeys bring captured demons to them. The palace of the demon-king Ravana stands on the hill at top right in this illustration from the "Ramayana."

3, 10 and 17 for the book ask!
eyyy!
3: Top five books I read this year (excluding answers to the other questions because I ate well this year)
A Very Stable Genius by Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig (I'm currently waist deep in the follow up "I Alone Can Fix This") which is some of the most detailed investigative journalism applied to biography I've ever read, this thing is a doorstopper and covers the Trump presidency in great detail while still being extremely engaging. I Alone Can Fix This somehow manages to be even better at splitting the focus of its narrative but I haven't finished it yet, these were easily my best impule pick ups from the library this year.
Vagabonds by Hao Jingfang I read for bookclub and it was one of my favourites! The most lasting impression I got from the narrative was one of "Oh this is what it is like to exist while Chinese on the broader internet", it's a sci fi that takes a leaf out of the Dispossessed following the narrative of an 18 year old girl returning home to Mars after spending her teen years on Earth in capitalist society and the effects of everything around that. Very cool and an extremely good author.
Hell House by Richard Matheson is not the most recent release but I only got round to it this year and Jesus H Christ. Prototypical haunted house novel, you can see the fingerprints this thing left over the horror genre in its entirety, I loved every minute of it. Haunted houses, 20s occultism taken too far, seventies paranormal scientists trying to be taken seriously, washed up child psychics, New Age sensibilities put to the test, this thing has everything *pats the roof of this sucker*
The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka I finished while camping in August and is one that's going to stay with me for a while. I loved this book, I loved its presentation of the afterlife, I loved the main character, and it's definitely the 'further reading' book of the year for me given how little I know about Sri Lanka's history, especially in this context of late 80s/early 90s conflicts. This one's my hard recommend of the list.
Leech by Hiron Ennes was deeply fascinating and threw me for the most loops. I love a hivemind and reading from the perspective of one was so cool, especially at the points of [redacted] and [redacted]. I was also totally taken in by the historicality of the setting so when I realised that what I was reading was actually [redacted] it hooked me even more. The interplay with the demographic elements as experienced by a parasitic hivemind was also deeply fascinating, this was my fastest read on this list because once I started I couldn't stop.
Honorary mentions to: The Darkest Web by Eileen Ormsby, Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll, The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones, Mister Magic by Kiersten White, Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero (minus the last like, 500 words rip), and Troll Hunting by Ginger Gorman.
10: My favourite new release of 2023
I'm not great at keeping up with new releases but this one goes to my only preorder of the year,
A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher, which I absolutely devoured. There's something about the mid century occultists that I find both hilarious and fascinating, and Kingfisher/Vernon managed to hit exactly on what I love about reading about them, while also capturing the horror of being stuck in your racist grandma's house. I'm a huge fan of her protagonists as well, and 'furloughed archaeoentomologist' is overflowing with great character bits and I love her. I want to reread this book now because I opened it up to the first chapter to make sure I was remembering her job accurately and got totally sucked into the vulture commentary in the first few pages. Goddamnit.
In close runner up is Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle because holy fuck man, I read that like 2 days ago and I'm a little bit obsessed. I've known Rose Darlings. I've met all of those characters (except maybe the demons). Incredible work by the Tingler Master.
17: A book that suprised me with how good it was
Fairy Tale by Stephen King. One of my friends gave this to me right at the beginning of the year because she'd bought a copy and then had two friends buy it for her as well, and holy fuck mom. I'm really on and off with King, I love some of his stuff, but when I don't like it I hate it, and Fairy Tale I genuinely loved. There were definitely bits that made me go 'mmm', but King also had the forethought to cover for it in later narration which I appreciated ahahaha. I've never gelled with his fantasies before, so I wasn't expecting to enjoy this one, but this is the closest to a spiritual successor to the Oz novels as I've ever read, and I loved his take on it. Still kind of amazed at how much I loved it.

Living in a land, a nation, and among the people of America is different in every measure. We are the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, inventor of Fast foods, junk foods, heavy metal, fourth of July hot dog cook outs and much more. We live free, or so we believe; even though burden by heavy debt from the government to the family unit that lives by paycheck to paycheck. We have freedom, in fact we have had more freedom than any nation on earth; I believe anyway. Many would disagree around the world and in this nation as well that other nations, especially in Europe, are free. But are they really. The biggest issue to freedom is the fact many Americans as well as citizens of other nations enjoy the freedom to live as they want and be what they want.
“A Journey for those who investigate the Whirlwind of these Last Days! Bearing the Cross in the War of Ages where Faith is the Victory that overcomes the World.” "By Gods grace, we endure from faith to faith; day to day and pass by from trouble to endurance to an overcomer!" "Heralding the Truth of God's' Word!" "Life Expression in its simplest form is simply life in words" -- The Watchman Dana G Smith
Throne of Deceptive Godlessness
For America, however, we have been proud of our heritage, and it was the pioneers who drove herds of cattle, horses, and led mile long wagon trains into the ole’ west. The six gun, the famous marshals like Wyatt Earp, the fight at the OK corral and much more made America and its legends. Today, however, we have lost much of that with the myriads of youths from the halls of liberal America. In fact, one that just plain speaking and thinking can bring more understanding than going to some of these brain-washed liberal colleges and universities with their liberal teachers and professors.
In addition, America today is more divided than ever, with some conservatives and liberals also believing Civil War is in itself an event that will occur. We are divided as a nation; it is not so simple; yet the conclusion is simple. We cannot get along, cannot find a congress that will get together and get needed legislation passed. There is hatred, vividly so with wild tantrums. On the streets black teens blame the white Race with not a single moment to think about it. Meanwhile, black on black crime is horrendous. Stealing, thieving, murdering, hateful, lustful and much more describes a nation that growing up in the fifties and sixties never saw. It reminds me of Jeremiah who was commissioned by the Lord to warn Judah of their sins. Now the prophet understood that he was to warn them and also knew they would not listen. Judgment would come and Babylon would be the nation to bring Judah into seventy years of captivity.
Judah and those who walked the streets of Jerusalem said by their actions and motives that “we will walk after our own devices”-Jeremiah 18:12. When I see America and how we flaunt our sins and are proud of our iniquities, this country is worse than Judah ever was. Bluntly speaking America has the freedom to be evil and enjoy the fruits of wickedness, even if in rebellion with the Lord. There is no doubt to this writer that this is what America, and many other nations are today. But as Americans, many of us reside in this land and must warn this nation and its people to repent, even if they think this is foolish.
Jer 18:11-12 As Jeremiah warned Judah, so we must also warn America.
(11) Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now everyone from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good. (12) And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart. Jer 18:11-12
The point comes at this juncture asking a serious question. At what time will a nation of people awaken to the truth? When will people gain wisdom? For Israel of old, wisdom came after seventy years in captivity. I ask you, when will America heed wisdom? When will these people living in America wake up?
We are surely a big nation, bigger in our own eyes, perhaps, than in reality. We do walk after our own devices, after all, who’s to stop us? If we want homosexuality to be made lawful, who’s to stop us? If we want to abort babies, who’s to stop us? If we want to declare sex outside of marriage is perfectly ok, who’s to stop us? If our ministers, pastors, deacons, bishops, and others want to ordain wickedness, who’s to stop them? So far, so good, appears to be the current adage. God’s mercy has been leveled at this nation and others, in spite of such wickedness. The problem is, His mercy will come to an end someday, then what?
Throne of Deceptive Godlessness
As a nation that has been blessed of God, we sure follow the ways of stubborn Israel. In spite of Gods warnings by His prophets, the nation headed straight into captivity. This is a nation full of churches, fine golden crosses, plush pews, the best educated seminaries, and the richest of all people on the earth, yet it is headed for disaster. This disaster comes when people think they answer to no one, believing their wicked ways will not be punished. This nation has been warned for years by many godly men. Even today, there are voices that cry for this nation to repent amidst godlessness.
Justice and Mercy of God | Throne of Deceptive Godlessness
(7) But the LORD shall endure forever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. (8) And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. (9) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. (10) And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. Psa 9:7-10
In Israel’s day, David knew to put into words the Justice of God. In Psalms 9 verses 7-10, David says that “the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness; he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” Those who know the Lord have put their trust in Him. The Lord will not forsake those who seek him.
The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:12 that we (who now know the Lord) were at one time “without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.” Having no Hope, without God in the World, this describes many to worldwide including in America today. The fact is, there is abundant Hope for the Christian who has received the Lord and to those without the Hope of Christ. John chapter three says “You must be Born Again of the Spirit”, John chapter one says of Jesus, Yeshua the Christ that “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. However, in the next verse John writes “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” See the context below.
Power to become the Sons of God! | Throne of Deceptive Godlessness
(10) He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. (11) He came unto his own, and his own received him not. (12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (13) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Now there are many scriptures which the Apostles left us regarding our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, many assuring us, guiding us, leaving us with the fact that the Apostles of Jesus Christ believed, saw, handled, and living among the Word of Life, Jesus Christ; Yeshua HaMassiach! We have Hope, through our God and Father who gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to provide the atonement for the sins of mankind. But you must come to the Lord. Many people today live their lives having no hope in the True and Living Messiah Yeshua, who today is “the Almighty” in Revelation chapter one. Yet there is Hope, and Salvation through Christ Jesus.
Moreover, when we in this nation, forget God as we have been doing, this “having no hope” boils to the surface. Instead of glitz and glamour, young people become disillusioned with society. Instead of religiosity of the churches today, the young people opt for the dark side of the occult and mysticism. Instead of feeding on this nation’s secularism and hype, the young people find it shallow offering nothing of sustenance. They find that the offerings of money, fame, wealth, food, religiosity, and everyday life to be of no value. It is pure vanity, uselessness. They see adults fighting to obtain, yet having not enough, politicians fighting in Washington offering no solutions, and in school they find humanism offering the empty wisdom of man.
The issue is that as David writes in the Ninth Psalm, verses sixteen to twenty that the LORD will Judge all people and the nations of men.
(16) The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah. (17) The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. (18) For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. (19) Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail let the heathen be judged in thy sight. (20) Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah. Psa 9:16-20 | Throne of Deceptive Godlessness
In our strivings in this nation, people need wisdom. Not mans, but Gods wisdom. The beginning of such wisdom is fear of the Lord. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, see Psalm 111:10. Furthermore, this nation and its people need to know, the way they are headed will bring a snare upon them. Just like nations before who thought they were Gods in their own eyes, they were brought low. This nation will end up just like the wicked before them, who were caught in the justice of the Lord and were cut down. Will America find herself in this situation? The answer is, America is already there. Today, before I wrote this, I got a call for prayer. This prayer was for the families of two young men. These families were unrelated, yet they faced the same dilemma. Both young men had committed suicide. One succeeded, the other failed and is facing horrible consequences for his action. In both these young men’s lives, we can see the reflection of America.
And, as they say it goes on and on in America and you know of the murders, suicides, rapes, drugs and so on. The ignorance never ceases, with wisdom of wicked men who fail to see the Justice of God that will come upon all nations who forget God. The trip to hell is paved with good intentions and is one step at a time. The problem for America is that we are taking the scenic trip and everyone, including many churches, is blinded to this.

Floating stones of Ram Setu: Miracle or myth
With the satellite images captured of the Ram Setu, it looks like a broken bridge in the ocean, but when we think back about the epic Ramayan, the Ram Setu was the binding factor between India and Lanka, the land of Ram and the land of demon King Ravan. #Floating #stones #Ram #Setu #Miracle #myth

Official Concept for the Hitchcockian Animation
20/02/2025
Alright everyone! Finally....the moment we've all been waiting for. The official story for this animation. I will have the story divided into several parts.
1. The Gini Yaka's backstory -

The Gini Yaka was born to an indigenous Sri Lankan clan called the 'Yaksha Gothra'/ 'Spirit clan'/ 'Titan clan'. They are people who were born with a titan physique and powers.
They lived in the forests, far away from the common folk under the Lankan king's ruling. They had their own unique traditions and culture of which they couldn't stray away from due to their connection with the spirits in the forest. One such tradition would be performance rituals to chase away demonic entities.
Many of the common folk believed their existence was only a myth. However, many generations of Lankan royals have always known of their existence and have idealized them as descendants of the Gods; that their lives should be at peace, or the Gods would inflict punishment.
In 1798 a new king was appointed to rule Lanka. He was known as King Rajasinghe. During the beginning of his kingship, he was a great and influential king; loved by his chief officers, soldiers and his loyal subjects. However, the pressures of maintaining power and the gruesome battles against foreign invaders completely altered this king's mentality and personality. He turned into a dictator; a cruel, cunning, and self-centered king who would be willing to sacrifice his soldiers in pointless battles for his materialistic gains. Anyone who would dare to defy him would suffer merciless punishments.
After sending off many soldiers to battle, he realized that his men weren't strong and powerful enough. He needed stronger men in the frontline. With this desire, he remembered the teachings on the hidden 'Titan clan'. Many kings and queens were educated about the livelihood of the titans in the forest. There were few books on historic records of the titans. Out of his immense curiosity and desire, the king ordered his officers to search for the books and gather knowledge.
Once the king learned about the whereabouts of these titans, and their weakness for 'copper', the king strategically plans and kills the adult titans, completely disregarding the sacred lifestyle of the titans for his personal gain. The king sent his army with copper armor and weaponry and successfully weakened and captured the titan offspring.
(Like how Superman is weakened by Kryptonite, the titan clan in this story were weakened by the copper metal. The reason why I've chosen copper as their weakness is because it is historically proven that copper had been used to create Sri Lankan weaponry.)
The Gini Yaka was at the age of 10 when the King's army captured him and his family and forced them to train for the king's army.
With the increase in the strength and soldiers in his army, the king felt the luxury of having separate forces;
The army - They were soldiers who were sent to battle against foreign invaders. These included both human and Titan soldiers.
The hunters - The hunters were soldiers who were sent to hunt down the king's traitors. Based on the king's orders, they would either imprison the traitors or publicly execute them. This force consisted of Titan soldiers due to their incredible physical strength and hunting skills.
At the age of 18, the Gini Yaka was assigned to the 'Hunters' force as he accelerated in physical, mental strength and hunting skills beyond most of his clan members.
In 1802, the king learned that some of his officers had formed a secretly alliance, plotting against him. In order to satisfy his revenge, he sends his hunters to track down the members of the secret alliance. However, since the members had predicted the king's discovery, they went into hiding, far away from the kingdom. Furious, the king sends the hunters on a mission to capture these officers' family members in order to lure the officials from hiding.
In the animation, the viewers will see the Gini Yaka hunting down the location of the adhikaram's family for capture.
-----
2. The homeowners' backstory -
The homeowners in this story consist of the following family members:
The Adhikaram (chief officer) -
He is the father of this family. Although he won't be shown in the animation, it is important to note down his character since he is one of the officers who was part of the secret alliance to overthrow the king.
Unlike his reference historical figure (Ehelepola Nilame), his reasoning to be part of the secret alliance to take down the king was valid. The reason behind the origins of the alliance was to take down the cruel king who would inflict brutal punishments upon the people who wouldn't comply to his rules and dictatorship. These officials wanted to save and protect the people. Their ultimate goal was to kill the king and rule the kingdom together by distributing power equally among each official.
However, once their discover that the plans of their alliance were no secret to the king, they went away in hiding, far away from their families, and far away from the kingdom. During this time of hiding, the adhikaram wrote a letter to his wife, asking her to take the children and run away to a secret location he had arranged for them.
The animation will take place in this secret location/safe haven (A small hut in the forest)
Kumarahami -

She is the mother of 'Madduma' and 'Tikiri' in the story and the wife of the Adhikaram. She will be portrayed as a neutral and somewhat ignorant parental figure.
Madduma -

He is the main child in the story. He will be portrayed as an energetic and joyful child.
This character comes into play when he hears footsteps from outside and rushes outside in hopes that it's his father returning back home.
Unfortunately, his assumption was wrong. He instead encounters the 'Gini Yaka' right outside the door.
Tikiri -

Based on the research I've done on Maddduma Bandara, it is mentioned that he had two sisters and one of them was named Tikiri. Therefore, I decided to add in a younger sister to this story.
I not too sure about this, but for the animation it's not required to have 4 characters animated. But the MI5014, we need to model a minimum of 4 characters. Therefore, I've added in a daughter as well to the story. She would be Madduma's younger sister.
If I were to include her in the animation, she would most likely be right beside her mother.
------
3. The story/events I'm hoping to show in the animation - (updated)
The animation would start off with a nighttime visual of the Safe Haven (a hut in the forest) with burners inside for lighting. The camera focuses on Kumarahami as she anxiously holds tightly onto a letter her husband sent her. This is a letter written to her by her husband (Adhikaram) asking her to stay in the hut with the children until his arrival.
While the viewers get a wide shot of her looking at the letter, Madduma enters the frame with playful energy.
Then we get a shot of someone's footsteps from outside, walking towards the house. This shot would make the viewers feel suspense as the feet look different compared to human feet.
Once Madduma hears these footsteps, he immediately rushes outside with glee, hoping it's his father returning home.
Once Madduma steps outside, we see a high angle shot of him look up and a large shadow appears in front of him. The viewers see how quickly his facial expressions change from joyful to fearful.
The animation will end with a low angle shot of the menacing 'Gini Yaka' looking down at the boy.

The viewers would get a close up visual of the letter written in Sinhala. This is a letter written to her by her husband who has been absent for the past couple of days.
While the viewers get a wide shot of her reading the letter, Madduma enters the frame with playful energy.
Then we get a shot of someone's footsteps from outside, walking towards the house. This shot would make the viewers feel suspense as the feet look different compared to human feet.

"And, without a doubt, that is the kindest thing you can say about life. It’s not nothing."

The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka
Just finished reading Shehan Karunatilaka's Booker Prize-winning book, and while it started with a style of writing that had the voice of a cynic trying too hard to establish itself, it eventually eases out, embraces the character well, and we get to see Sheha's Lanka in its beautiful honesty. I have recently been shooting again on film, so the protagonist being a photographer shooting on film in the 80s added a balmy touch for me. The book captures the politics, and its people, and mixes them with the supernatural in such a living, materialistic way, that you don't realise when you are with a living and when you are not.
Also, kudos to the author for never losing sight of the whodunnit angle. Shehan has gambled like a professional, serving cards in a way that would keep you guessing, and tugging at your heart just like the way Maali did at his Nikon 3ST (tried looking up this model, but I guess it's a fictitious one, but it must be a rangefinder with leaf shutter because it hardly makes a sound when taking a photo).
Lastly, I always love a book with plenty of quote-worthy lines, and this book does so without trying to dish out a sermon. Shehan's book is definitely an ace at that. Sharing some of the lines that I highlighted while reading.
_
"All stories are recycled and all stories are unfair."
_
"‘We are educated Colombo Tamils. We must be careful and not attract attention. You understand, no?’ You think of the lottery of birth and how everything else is mythology, stories the ego tells itself to justify fortune or explain away injustice. You wonder if you should hold your tongue."
_
"‘Because people are OK if bad things happen to people who aren’t them.’"
_
"‘Why is Sri Lanka number one in suicides?’ asks the girl, peering through thick glasses. Are we that much more sadder or violent than the rest of the world?’ ‘Who the fuck cares?’ says the hunched figure, as a lady in pigtails does her high jump over the edge. ‘It’s because we have just the right amount of education to understand that the world is cruel,’ says the schoolgirl. ‘And just enough corruption and inequality to feel powerless against it.’"
_
"‘God’s gift,’ the warden said, ‘His violence... God loves violence. You understand that, don’t you?... Why else would there be so much of it? It’s in us. It comes out of us. It is what we do more naturally than we breathe. There is no moral order at all. There is only this – can my violence conquer yours?’ Dennis Lehane, Shutter Island"
This one is not by Shehan but it makes so much sense when it appears in the book.
_
"‘You know why the battle of good vs evil is so one-sided, Malin? Because evil is better organised, better equipped and better paid. It is not monsters or yakas or demons we should fear. Organised collectives of evil doers who think they are performing the work of the righteous. That is what should make us shudder.’"
_
"Even on the sad days, when you have to process young children or those leaving lovers behind, you come to realise that every death is significant, even when every life appears not to be."
_

Ending with two shots I had taken during my trip to Colombo back in 2010. You can read more about it on my old blog.

The clock ticked softly above their heads.
Within those intervals, Marcy wondered how synced she and Anne were to the seconds. That one kiss equaled ten seconds, that something chaste and innocent could rival the creation of a thought. An action.
Or that when Marcy tugged lightly at Anne's bottom lip, time seemed to skip in accordance, and left her girlfriend dazed in the aftermath.
All of it made sense. Kissing meant that adrenaline and dopamine came afterward. In seeing her girlfriend react so dopey over a tiny kiss made her heart skip, and to have her heart be all silly was predictable.
However, what she didn't expect was for those moments of kissing to transform into talking.
Talking about topics that Marcy had never researched about, actually. She’d been the kind to be curious before and lay out all the details like a presentation, but to have Anne ramble silently about something always came down as a gift. A gift where — when they were both tired, mumbling little flirty nothings into each other’s ears until someone got red up the neck — Anne could comment on something new that Marcy never heard about.
And Marcy listened keenly — at how Anne breathed out facts and anecdotes from the tip of her tongue — and took in every word like a lullaby.
In this moment, Anne was rambling about Thai culture. She did it before, but Marcy never stopped eating up the moments when they came.
Because in moments like now, where Anne's chest would rumble out laughter, Marcy couldn’t help but press her ear to the other’s heartbeat. Feeling the scratchy fabric. The tha-thump, tha-thump of her favorite human being. "So yeah, we have masks for plays and theater stuff. I don't know much about the whole Ramakien part. Only a lil', and you sure you want to hear about it? Might be pretty boring.”
Marcy hummed. It was nice to listen to Anne ramble like this, in fact, it reminded her so much of the conversations they had back in their childhood. When the two were just kids in some parking lot, or lounging soundly in the Plantar's backyard. Talking. And nothing more. "I don't mind asking about it, Anne," Marcy whispered. With the dorm bed sheets slipping down their bodies, Marcy pulled them back up. All for capturing some warmth in the Christmas cold. "After all, your culture loves theatrical expression and storytelling."
"And food."
Her smile pressed to her abdomen. "They always sound so deeply embedded in your family, it's incredible. With my family, we don’t really talk about it. The traditions are all”—Marcy twirled her pinkies together—”mish-mashed with grades and respect. It’s exhausting.”
"Well, it doesn’t have to be like that all the time." Anne pulled Marcy closer to her, and Marcy couldn’t help but melt into the heat, at how Anne somehow generated more than the heater itself. Didn't help that Anne's lungs rolled slowly underneath her, almost lulling Marcy to sleep. "I mean, I talked a lot about khon theater today for someone who’s never seen one.”
“You didn’t?” Marcy whispered.
“No.” Anne nestled more into the mattress. Marcy could see that her girlfriend’s free arm now moved — now cushioned below Anne’s neck, pushing her attention more toward the ceiling than anywhere else. “I just thought they were boring so I never went. I do know a few facts though, if you want.”
“You don’t even have to ask.”
Anne’s smile looked beautiful despite the weird angle. Almost peaceful. At ease with herself. “Well, right.” She then clicked her tongue, uttering ‘uhm’s and ‘mm’s as if the words escaped her, slipping through the cracks of her grasp. “So the demon masks do have more angry expressions. There are masked heroes that save princesses from demons, and I remember my mom always telling me that the King of Lanka mask is always the most important part in a play because the guy’s a total unit.”
"Not a unit compared to the queen," Marcy mused. She didn't have to look up to know that Anne stared back at her, confused. "It's a chess joke, continue."
And she didn't have to look up to know that Anne's laugh was beautiful, and drifted softly into her ear. "I don’t know if words can do it justice, I’m not even giving that much of a good visual.”
“I don’t know, Anne, I’m imagining it really well right now.”
A hand ruffled her hair. “It’s still not enough. Tell you what, maybe I can buy some tickets for us so I can show you.” Then the hand turned into light fingers curling lightly through her dark bangs until it brushed the curve of her ear. Marcy would’ve been lying if she said she didn’t shudder. “Would make for a neat date."
"Mmm." Her fingers drifted down Anne's clavicle. To the scar clear on Anne's skin, and for a second, time seemed to skip in accordance, and Marcy found herself smiling — hidden deep in the blankets with Anne beside her. "I'd like that! Maybe going to a play can also rejog your memory about the King specifically.”
"Then I can tell you all about it,” Anne said, wiggling her eyebrows. “Show that our King is heck of a lot better than some chess game."
Marcy giggled. "Sounds perfect."

Suvannamaccha was a mermaid princess in Hindu mythology who was said to live in Southeast Asia. In the Hindu epic Ramayana the goddess Sita is captured by the demon Ravana and Sitas’ husband Rama asked Hanuman to build a causeway to the island of Lanka where she was being held so his armies could rescue her. While building the causeway, mermaids kept stealing stones so he tried to speak to a mermaid but she kept swimming away. As he pursued her, he fell in love with her. He finally met her and she revealed herself as Suvannamaccha and that she was the daughter of Rama. But when Hanuman told her why the causeway was being built she sympathized with his cause and told her mermaids to put the rocks back. Eventually her and Hanuman fell and love and had a child named Macchanu.

Asuras - a very brief crash course
this post has been made for @momo-all-the-way who asked the question
Asuras in Hindu mythology are a group of beings who’re opposed to the Devas. Originally, the Vedas classify them as “anti-gods” - their name literally translating to Not A God, or those who rejected wine. The Vedas also specify their worship. Think of them as somewhat like Norse mythology - the Devas are sky deities, Aesir; Asuras are earth deities - Vanir. Both exist to complement and counter the other and are in fact, necessary.
Born to Kashyap and his wife Diti, Asuras are cousins to the Devas, who were born from Kashyap and Aditi. They are the highest ranking in the order of “demons”, which includes Rakshasas (born from Kashyap and Krodhavashaa - ykw really everyone was just born from him), Daityas (the inferior sons of Diti), Danavas (from Danu), Pishachas (ghosts and zombies) and Nishachar (Nightwalkers).
There is a significant shift in their status in the Puranic period. Puranic period was developed in the Indo-Gangetic plains, and is known for it’s stories and glorification of the Trimurti - Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva - who played a minor role in the Vedic period. The Puranic asuras are inherently evil and greedy - they exist to terrorise humans and gods alike. A good example is the story of the dragon Vritra - Indra had once invited a deva called Vishwaroop to conduct a yajna. Since Vishwaroop was born from an Asura mother, he also gave some offerings to the Asuras. This angered Indra who killed him promptly. Remorseful, Vishwaroop’s father Tvashtra invoked Vritra, the dragon of drought and famine. Indra later defeated him with his fabled Vajra.
This tale brings into focus the shift in thinking. It rejects Vedic thinking to an extent by demeaning Vishwaroop’s birth and his act of offering the Asuras a part of the yajna. Also, deities like him and Tvashtir, who are exalted in the Vedas, are now demonized or merged with other deities in a rapidly developing religion.
Some famous Asuras include :
Ravana - Emperor of Lanka. The first kings of Lanka historically claim to be his descendants.
Kumbhakarna - Ravana’s brother. Cursed to sleep for six months, blessed to be invincible and immortal on the day he wakes up, doomed to die if woke up before.
Indrajit - Ravana’s son, also known as Meghanad. Captured Indra. The fiercest warrior after Ravana in the Lankan army.
Vibheeshana - Ravana’s traitor brother. Had his entire family killed by divulging their secrets to Ram. Later Emperor of Lanka.
Shurpanakha - Also known as Meenakshi. Ravana’s sister.
Banasura - Emperor of Asuras, son of Mahabali and great grandson of Prahlad. Had a hundred arms and was under the eternal protection of Lord Shiva. His daughter Usha married Krishna’s grandson, Aniruddha.
Vrishaparva - An Asura king
Sharmishtha - Vrishaparva’s daughter. Reduced to be a slave of Devayani, Shukracharya’s daughter, preceptor of the Asuras.
Jara - an Asura who joined the two halves of a baby and thus birthed Jarasandha, Krishna’s legendary enemy and Emperor of Magadha.
Bhasmasur - accidentally burnt himself to death
Mahishasur - shape-shifting buffalo demon slain by Durga
Swarbhanu - drank the Amrit duringn Amrit manthan, and was thus killed by Mohini when told by Surya and Chandra. His head became Rahu and body became Ketu, both responsible for eclipses.
Tarakasur - killed by Kartikeya, the god of war, Shiva’s son
Tarakaksh, Kamalaksh and Vidyunmali - Founders of the legendary Tripura. Slain by Shiva.
Mayasur - architect of the Asuras. Ravana’s father in law.
Mahabali - the greatest Asura ever. only immortal asura.
Prahlad - Mahabali’s grandfather. Saved from his father by Narasimha, Vishnu’s fierce half man half lion avatar.
Hiranyakashyapu - Prahlad’s father. could not be killed by any single creature, a creature born from a womb, neither in nor out, neither at day nor at night, neither up or down, neither at land nor sea, neither by any weapon nor by any magic.
Hiranyaksha - Hiranyakashyapu’s father. Abducted Bhoodevi, the earth goddess, and hid her under the sea where he raped her. Killed by Vishnu’s boar form, Varaha.
Narakasura - Bhoodevi’s son through Hiranyaksha. Cruel emperor of Asuras and King of Pragjyotish (modern day Assam). Slain by Krishna and his third wife, Satyabhama.
there are so many more but this is all i remember sorry
hope this helps :D

The Hanuman Chalisa – Translated and Explained
Love is the nirvana of the buddha and the samadhi of the yogi. It is the miraculous power of Hanuman, devotee of the hermit king, Rama.
A poem of love and devotion, dedicated to the mighty hero and monkey-god, Hanuman and to his Guru and God: Rama. The poem is replete with praises for his supernatural prowess, his incredulous strength and intelligence, his childlike charm and cunning, and above all for his love and desire to serve Rama, the hermit king of Ayodhya.
This ancient poem, consists of 43 verses, describing a part of the lives of Sri Rama (the perfect indwelling spirit) and Hanumana (prana or the life force) son of the wind god, his devoted disciple and servant. He serves not out of necessity, but from choice, from love. For prana finds its fulfilment only in the perfection of the indwelling spirit. While we spend our lifetime pursuing illusions upon illusions, intoxicated by our own selves as well as the world around us, our prana grows weaker and weaker. But mighty Hanuman, growing from strength to strength, remains exclusively in service of the perfect Rama.
The poem speaks of three types of beings, their places in the world and their relationships with each other.
The three being: humans, demons and between the two are all the others, called the monkeys. All three types have divine and unlimited potential, with the monkeys having the most difficult access to this potential. Humans are those who follow dharma or righteousness i.e. strive to rise above the instinctive nature and succeed, in howsoever small measures. Demons, those who strive for the same and succeed in greater measure than the humans, which gives them superhuman skills. But the ensuing power intoxicates them and instead of freeing them, buries them deeper in the pursuits of the primal brain.
In between we have the monkeys, also a metaphor for the restless mind. A mind that can never rest on anything, like a monkey jumping from branch to branch. It is far easier to capture their attention and domesticate them than the humans or the demons. This limitation lies not in their bodies, but in their forever distracted minds.
Ancient India has always laid more emphasis on the mind than on the body. From this research and years of dedication were born the paths of yoga and vedanta. Recently the west has started to devote a lot of research to the mind, through neuroscience, psychiatry and psychology among other fields.
Ancient epics, myths, legends, poems and stories, explain the mind and its mysteries in a deep and profound manner. They are often woven into the everyday tapestry of social life, so much so that they have naturally lived in peoples hearts and minds since the past thousands of years and are often considered folklore.
One such text is the Hanuman Chalisa, dedicated to the very popular monkey god, Hanuman.
Being a text of devotion and love, it is often dismissed by the more rational as a story about magical impossible people, creatures and events. But it so much more than that. The poem speaks eloquently about the unconditional love of a disciple for his teacher, of a devotee for his god.
The science of yoga devised four paths towards enlightenment, for the different character traits that humans possess. Devotion which is one of them, is said to be the fastest and safest path. Often we admire someone who we see as perfect. They may possess qualities and virtues we would like to have and that admiration naturally blossoms into love and devotion.
The poem starts with a prayer to the sacred dust that lies at the feet of such an enlightened being: Rama – Hanuman’s god and guru. So pure and virtuous is Rama, that even the dust at his feet, says Hanuman, has the potency to clear the disturbed mind, turning it into a perfect mirror reflecting only the divine.
It is said that the very intelligent and perceptive monkey Hanuman recognises Rama’s divinity the moment he sets eyes on him in the forest. Rama, known as purushottam or the perfect man is the very personification of dharma (righteousness). Hanuman recognising this, surrenders his entire life to his service in that very instant, his heart overflowing with love.
Unmatched in strength, and full of divine attributes himself, Hanuman fights Rama’s battles, leaps across the ocean, carries a mountain of sacred healing herbs from the Himalayas to the south of the country, and above all, locates Rama’s estranged wife Sita, to whom he becomes Rama's messenger. These are just some of his feats. Highly popular in his native country, there are thousands of temples dedicated to him across the length and breadth of the country and far beyond, in Thailand, Indonesia, Burma etc.
In this poem, the path of love or Bhakti Yoga is glorified over all other paths towards enlightenment. All other paths require the perfection of techniques and many hours and years spent in practise. But love requires no such thing. It is sufficient unto itself and comes naturally to every being. True love is unconditional love, expecting nothing in return. So great is the power of Hanuman’s love that it outlives even the avatar’s themselves. While avatars born like Rama and Krishna, must return to their heavenly abodes once their work on earth is done, Hanuman is a chiranjeevi or immortal.
Legend says that he can still be seen attending spiritual gatherings where the name of Rama is sung. A special place is always reserved for him. For nothing outlives love as all else faces decay and must perish. But love being the very nature and source of the cosmos is eternal. It needs no nurturing, nor sustenance, instead it nurtures and sustains, asking for nothing in return.
Being desireless is what gives Hanuman his magical powers and strength. All human action, is geared toward the satisfying of desire, whether done consciously or unconsciously. Desire, a tenacious mistress remains forever dissatisfied, forever demanding, thus consuming life relentlessly.
Yet there is another path few are able to see. That of sublimating desire. Where nothing else but love is desired. It is the mighty hero’s path. Only for him or her who has conquered the senses and gone beyond their intoxication. For love is sufficient unto itself and needs no other sustenance. It is the nirvana of the buddha and the samadhi of the yogi. It is the miraculous power of Hanuman, devotee of the hermit king, Rama.

Mika's assignment 2:- 'Lodger' character profile development
28/01/2025
Lodger Design:- [ I hope to do a digital sketch of him during my free time ]
Before answering the H/W questions, I have 2 reading materials to look through. Hopefully, I should be able to give the 'Gini Yaka' a solid personality.
I will be making notes on important points from each reading material.
I decided to read through 'story by Robert Mckee'. These are the notes I wrote down.

Research on the character :- [Not complete 100%]
29/01/2025
Lodger back story:- (I'm thinking of giving him a different name)
( I just taught about the titans being part of a separate clan that lives seperately from the king. So the king captures these titans and uses their powers for battle. ) - Indigenous people
[ I'm thinking of having the titans as a separate clan that lives in the forest, hidden away from the king. I would also like to imagine that these titans are connected to the spirits of the forest, and they perform their rituals to chase demonic spirits away. That's why you see the Gini Yaka dressed in a similar fashion to a Kandyan dancer.
The 'Gini Yaka' possesses both human and titan traits. His father was a titan warrior for the previous Lankan king and his strength and fighting skills helped the king's army win many battles against invaders. [ Like the Chola - King Dutugamunu's period] His mother was an ordinary village woman.
After the previous king's passing, a new king took over the thrown [ A king similar to Sri Wickremeragasinghe ] This king was a vicious king who was hungry for power and dominance. He sent many of his strongest soldiers to fight gruesome battles, and many of them died in the process. Unfortunately, the father was one of them. [somewhere in the story, the much tougher invader enters Lanka. Like the British]
Even though many of his soldiers were dying, the king didn't care. He recruited more young soldiers to fulfil his selfish desires. The king found out about the Gini Yaka's titan strength when he was a teenager, and he was assigned to the king's army.
Another thing I want to mention is that this king not only sends his strongest men to battle, but he keeps some of them reserved to punish the people that goes against his orders [ e.g. the way the Kandyan Adikaram plotted against king Sri Wickremeragasignhe ]
(1798 - 1815)
Once the 'Gini Yaka' was captured, he was assigned as a punisher. He was trained to carry out the role of hunting down people who went against the king's ruling.
Homeowners-
The homeowners have a similar story to Ehelepola Nilame (father), Ehelepola Kumarahami (Mother), and Madduma Bandara (son).
The father who's an adikaram to the king is part of a group that has joined hands with the invaders to overthrow the king.
The king learns about this organization and sends the 'Punishers' to hunt down the members. However, they are unable to find the members as they are in hiding.
After learning this, the king orders the punishers to hunt the perpetrator's families instead.
This basically leads to the story that takes place in the animation -
The Gini Yaka is basically sent to hunt for the Adikaram/father's family.
The mother and son eagerly wait for the father's arrival, hoping the king hasn't killed him.
The son hears footsteps from outside the house and assumes it's his father returning after days of absence.
The son cheerfully calls out to his 'Apachchi' while rushing outside. However, once the boy steps outside his house, he sees the 'Gini Yaka' standing in front of him with a dagger/ Sword/ Kaduwa.
Below is a map to understand the various groups in the story :-

New Odia Book Sundarakanda By Dr. Ramachanra Sarangi
Sundara Kanda, literally "beautiful episode book", is the fifth book in the Hindu epic the Ramayana. It depicts the adventures of Hanuman. The original Sundara Kanda is in Sanskrit and was composed by Valmiki, who was the first to scripturally record the Ramayana. Sundara Kanda is the only chapter of the Ramayana in which the hero is not Rama, but rather Hanuman. Hanuman's selflessness, strength, and devotion to Rama are emphasized in the text. Hanuman was fondly called Sundara by his mother Anjani and Sage Valmiki chose this name over others as this kand deals mainly with Hanuman's journey to Lanka. This app contains 12 chapters of Sundarakanda Story in Telugu Launguage.
The Sundarakanda forms the heart of Valmiki's Ramayana and consists of a detailed, vivid account of Hanuman's adventures. After learning about Sita, Hanuman assumes a gargantuan form and makes a colossal leap across the ocean to Lanka after defeating Surasa, the mother of the Nagas and Sinhika, who is sent by the Devatas.
In Lanka, Hanuman searches for Sita and finally finds her in Ashoka Vatika. In the Ashoka Vatika, Sita is wooed and threatened by Ravana and his demon mistresses to marry Ravana. Hanuman reassures her, giving Rama's signet ring as a sign of good faith. He offers to carry Sita back to Rama; however, she refuses, reluctant to allow herself to be rescued by any one other than her husband. She says that Rama himself must come and avenge the insult of her abduction.
Hanuman then wreaks havoc in Lanka by destroying trees and buildings, and killing Ravana's warriors. He allows himself to be captured and produced before Ravana. He gives a bold lecture to Ravana to release Sita. He is condemned and his tail is set on fire, but he escapes his bonds and, leaping from roof to roof, sets fire to Ravana's citadel and makes the giant leap back from the island. The joyous search party returns to Kishkindha with the news.

Aranya Kanda of Ramayana
Aranya Kanda (the book of Forest) is the third book of the Valmiki Ramayana, which is one of the two great epics of India (the other being the Mahabharata). The book consists of 75 sargas
Shri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana, met Shurpanakhaa, killings of Khara and Dushana by Shri Rama, kidnapping of Sita by Ravana, Jatayu (slain by Ravana) dying on the lap of Shri Rama and meeting with Kabandhu and Shabari. Rama, Sita and Lakshmana journeyed southward along the banks of river Godavari, where they built cottages and lived off the land. At the Panchavati forest they are visited by a rakshasa woman, Surpanakha, the sister of Ravana. She attempts to seduce the brothers and, failing in this, attempts to kill Sita. Lakshmana stops her by cutting off her nose and ears. Hearing of this, her demon brother, Khara, organizes an attack against the princes. Rama annihilates Khara and his demons. When news of these events reaches Ravana, he resolves to destroy Rama by capturing Sita with the aid of the rakshasa Maricha. Maricha, assuming the form of a golden deer, captivatesSita's attention. Entranced by the beauty of the deer, Sita pleads with Rama to capture it. Lord Rama, aware that this is the play of the demons, is unable to dissuade Sita from her desire and chases the deer into the forest, leaving Sita under Lakshmana's guard. After some time Sita hears Rama calling out to her; afraid for his life she insists that Lakshmana rush to his aid. Lakshmana tries to assure her that Rama is invincible, and that it is best if he continues to follow Rama's orders to protect her. On the verge of hysterics Sita insists that it is not she but Rama who needs Lakshmana's help. He obeys her wish but stipulates that she is not to leave the cottage or entertain any strangers. He draws a chalk outline, the Lakshmana rekha around the cottage and casts a spell on it that prevents anyone from entering the boundary but allows people to exit.
Finally with the coast clear, Ravana appears in the guise of an ascetic requesting Sita's hospitality. Unaware of the devious plan of her guest, Sita is tricked into leaving the rekha and then forcibly carried away by the evil Ravana. Jatayu, a vulture, tries to rescue Sita, but is mortally wounded. At Lanka, Sita is kept under the heavy guard of rakshasis. Ravana demands Sita marry him, but Sita, eternally devoted to Rama, refuses.Rama and Lakshmana learn about Sita's abduction from Jatayu, and immediately set out to save her. During their search, they meet the demon Kabandha and the ascetic Shabari, who direct them towards Sugreeva and Hanuman.

Hinduism in Xena: The Warrior Princess
Before I begin, I would like to state that the show’s creators did admit that they took liberties with Hindu religion. This show is about a lady named Xena trying to make up for her past evil deed by defending the innocent. She had a companion, Gabrielle.
In Season Four, Episode Fourteen, Gabrielle and Xena arrive in India. There they walk around and see the sights. Then they watch a magician’s act, and an accident happens. An evil demon by the name Tataka possesses the magician’s assisstant Maya. Gabrielle drives the demon out, and the local priest, Vikram, accuses Eli, the magician, of bringing demons.
Xena, the magician Eli and Gabrielle run and hide in a temple. There, Eli tells them that he once cast a demon out of a guy, and is trying to do it again, and learn about his powers. Later on, the priest is found dead. When Xena and Eli enter the town, Gabrielle’s bodyguards and worshippers vanish. Dogs attack Xena and Eli; Xena escapes, and Gabrielle scares the dogs away. The trio go into another temple for protection, and there Xena sees a painting of Tataka, a blond haired demoness, who posed as a healer.
Gabrielle poses like Tataka. Gabrielle throws healing water on herself, and the two realize that Gabrielle is not the devi. When Gabrielle’s head bodyguard attacks and Xena has Eli throw the holy water on it, it burns it. Eli is actually the devi-he drove away the demons. Eventually, after some events, Eli drives Tataka out of Gabrielle, and the three split up temporarily.
In the next episode, Between the Lines, Xena saves Naiyima from being thrown into a fire. She has mehndi lines on her that attack Xena and slice her into a million bits. The mehndi lines go back to Naiyima, sucking Xena into a Karmic tunnel.
At the end of the tunnel, Xena is in a ruined village. There are swordsmen and villagers around. The leader, Khindin, addresses her as Arminestra, the great Peacemaker. Xena’s reflection is that of an old woman. Xena’s soul is in her body; during a battle, Xena sees the soul of Alti in Khindin. Alti is an evil shamaness.
In the past, Naiyima tells Gabrielle Xena is in the future, to defend her soul and the Karmic cycle. Naiyima teaches Gabrielle about Mehndi, which will help Xena return home. To defeat the evil, Xena must fight evil in the present. So Gabrielle goes through the Karmic tunnel, inhabiting Shakti. Xena sees this, and also makes the connection that Alti has gotten the spiritual power she had in the past. Alti and she have a little chat.
Gabrielle as Shakti mounts her attack. Xena tries to kill Alti, but because she is Arminestra, a follower stops her. Xena looses the box that both need to travel back in time. Alti captures Gabrielle and Xena.
Alti now wants their souls, and is preparing to sacrifice them. While she’s gone, Xena and Gabrielle paint some Mehndi on themselves, and when Alti returns, the two use the Mehndi to bring themselves back to the past.
Alti deals a near-death blow using the past lives of Xena and Gabrielle, and tries to crucify Gabrielle. Xena stops this by slicing off Gabrielle’s hair. Naiyima intervenes and chucks Alti away, then encourages Xena and Gabrielle to fight some more. Gabrielle binds Alti’s wrists and Xena, after two unsuccessful chakram throws, combines the two and kills Alti.
Unfortunately, Alti’s soul will return. Luckily, Xena and Gabrielle will be there to continue killing her when she appears.
In the next episode, the Way, Xena and Gabrielle are sauntering along a reiverbank when demons attack. Xena gets a cut on her arm, but they get to interrogate one demon. Apparently, an evil demon king has sent them to prevent the two from meeting the Avatar, a deity in human form who will save humanity.
Along the road, they meet the avatar, Eli. Eli greets them, but he’s still a little unsecure about his new healing gifts. Xena hears a noise, and hunts around for it, but finds nothing. The band gets back together for the time being, to provide maximum security against the king.
Another thing follows them, this time, Hanuman. Hanuman has helped many avatars before Eli, and takes them to the temple of Krishna.
Along the way, Eli talks to Gabrielle about his Way, the way of non-violence, about reverence of all life. Xena asks Hanuman about this, and he says that there is one one Way per person, and to be caught between two is bad.
At the temple, Eli persuades those who want to fight for him not to; fighting would corrupt the soul. Then enters Indrajit.
Indrajit kidnaps Eli and Gabrielle, and returns to Lanka, the demon land. Hanuman persuades Xena to enter Krishna’s temple before pursuing Indrajit.
Xena prays in the temple, and after awhile, Krishna comes.
Krishna says that Xena is confused. He says that she needs to do what she must now so it will be possible for other things to happen now. Krishna says to call his name whenever Xena is in dire straits in the battle against Indrajit, and she will have the strength she needs.
Eli and Gabrielle meditate, from where they are captured. Gabrielle sees Xena chained up and attacks, but it’s an illusion, courtesy of Indrajit.
When Xena and Hanuman enter Indrajit’s palace, Xena chops off Indrajit’s hand; he is holding Gabrielle by the throat. Indrajit transforms into a six armed demon, and duels Xena until both her arms are cut off.
Xena calls out Krishna's name, and he transforms her into a four-armed goddess, Kali. Kali defeats and curb-stomps Indrajit, and Xena returns to normal. After the battle, Gabrielle tells Eli she's failed the first test for the Love Way. Eli encourages her to keep trying, then goes back home. Gabrielle flings her staff into the river, accepting the Love Way, and Gabrielle and Xena set off on their travels again.
I will now talk about the depiction of Hinduism in Xena. It seems to me to be patchwork, almost. Certain things were depicted, others not, maybe because India was only featured in three episodes of the show.
Nonetheless, here are the accurate bits.
Indrajit, in Hindu mythology, was the son of Ravana. Ravana wanted his son to be immortal, and so commanded the planets and stars to align just so, for this to happen. Saturn did not, among all the planets, and Indrajit was destined to die at the hands of Rama. He was arrogant, and evil. Neither of those things has changed in Xena, and it’s no great stretch to assume once Ravana died, Indrajit would inherit the kingship. The dresses are similar, except for I believe one such as Indrajit would be dressed in outfits far more LOUD than what was portrayed in Xena.
All through the episodes, various characters wear flower garlands.
These flower garlands are used in Hinduism for weddings, religious purposes and more. In a wedding, the bride garlands the groom, bestowing half of her spiritual energy, and the groom garlands the bride, bestowing half of his spiritual energy. This symbolizes the union of their two souls. In addition, the groom often wears a garland of money, symbolizing that money has no value compared to that groom. The bride wears a wreath of native flowers around her head, perfuming her hair and representing her auspiciousness.
For religion, each god has His or Her own flower, and no temple ever has a god without a garland; for example the god Ganesha likes grass garlands.
Leaf garlands are used for medicinal properties. Often, Neem leaf garlands are offered to Kali, because the plants is known to ward off disease. Finally, lime garlands are offered to the goddess Durga, who removes evil spirits.
Hanuman is the devotee of Lord Rama, and a main character in the Ramayana. He is a popular Hindu god, and versions of him are found across Asia. A popular story of Hanuman is that, while a young boy, he tried to eat the sun, thinking it was a mango. In Xena, while Hanuman is portrayed differently, he is still a devotee of Rama.
What do others think of this depiction of Hinduism in Xena: Warrior Princess?
