REVIEW: Live - "Heaven" (2003 CD single)
REVIEW: Live – “Heaven” (2003 CD single)
LIVE – “Heaven” (2003 Universal CD single) If the goal is to review “everything” in the collection, then we must dig deep.  Sometimes you find things that you forgot you owned.  Things you have not listened to in 19 years.  Things you bought “for the collection” because they were cheap (staff discount).  This single would have cost me about two bucks.  Live were a good band once; Throwing Copper…

I’m gonna go on a little rant about this theory. (If you wanna understand the theory more, check out the tags and @thatonesongyouretryingtoremember)
If Angela (aka Jane Ives) escaped the lab somehow without getting caught (idk how she escaped) someone would’ve had to put her into the system to where she would’ve gotten adopted. And since her name isn’t Jane Ives currently (1986), I could assume that when she was adopted, her adoptive parents decided to change her name.
We see how during El’s presentation, Angela was more concerned about how El’s diorama was about her dad than anyone. I’m sure everyone was confused for a second but let it go after a while, unlike angela who kept bringing it up and how he wasn’t a hero. She must’ve wanted some type of validation from the people around her, especially like teacher and it’s pretty clear to me. She smiles and nods when Ms. Gracey admitted that she was correct.
When El first walked into the class with her project, we see her dodging different students to get to her desk. One thing I noticed in that scene was that Stacy was standing beside Angela’s desk talking to her. They didn’t even look at El until she pushed past Stacy to sit at her desk.
El probably didn’t think to say “excuse me” so that Stacy would move and just pushed her. El didn’t even realize she did it and Stacy just brushed it off. As for Angela, she gave El a harsh side eye and looked pissed. A second later, Jake blew a spit ball at her threw a straw, so I’m guessing he saw it happen too.
Here’s a vid
If you pay attention to Angela’s face she does not look happy at all. Its possible that that could’ve been the reason.
Now if i fast forward to the scene where Angela tripped El we see her make some comments about Mr Fibley and then walking away. She didn’t even try to go anywhere near her project, I don’t think she even cared that much. But we do see Jake pass Chad (blonde dude) the project before he steps on it, ruining it completely.
They all walk away until El calls Angela. Now angela didn’t have anything to do with the project being stepped on but she was still called.
El throws her hand out and screams. everyone starts laughing. We can also assume that El screamed so loud that it caused Ms Gracey to come out and check on her.
Ms Gracey saw Angela with her face down and assumes it was her who broke it, she grabs Angela’s arm and i guess took her to the office.
Angela does everything she can to convince Ms Gracey she didn’t do anything but it didn’t work.
So what I’m saying is she probably called El a snitch because when the teacher checked on her all she did was look at Angela, which told her everything. Angela could also be upset because she’s getting in trouble for something she didn’t do (breaking the project). She was the only one who got in trouble when all of her friends were involved. We can assume she got in trouble because of that. (Calling her parents, detention, ISS when they get back from break, we don’t know)
When El picks mike up from the airport, we see that both El and Mike are being fake. El is wearing make up and trying to act “cool” or “normal”, she’s trying to be like Angela. Angela wears makeup, and she has a boyfriend. At the airport, El wears makeup and she’s seeing her boyfriend. She lies to mike about Stacy and Angela being her friends. She smacks Will with her flowers when he says “what friends” mike definitely saw that, he says nothing.
At the skating rink, everything is fine except she lies to mike again saying that she goes to the skating rink a lot but Will doesn’t. That could also be interpreted by saying “Angela goes to the skating rink a lot but I do not.”
They’re in the same class, El sits behind Angela, I wouldn’t be surprised if she heard her talk about going to the skating rink with her friends. Angela also has her own skates, she doesn’t rent them.
Will calls her out for lying and El acts like she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. They all get on the rink to skate and Will is by himself, El is focused on mike and they don’t notice Angela and her friends walk in.
Angela notices El and Mike almost instantly and points them out. Jake comments about mike by calling him a “twig”. After a while, they all have their skates on now and Angela goes up to El’s side of the table.
El is frowning now and Mike is looking at Angela but also looking over at Jake. Angela introduces herself and calls mike “handsome” assumingely to sort of get under El’s skin. Mike mentions that it’s good to finally meet “Jane’s friends” to which Angela makes a face and goes along with it. She grabbed her hands and took her onto the skating rink, we see that Jake took her milkshake.
El looks confused while she’s skating with Angela, Angela stops in the middle of the rink and tells her to stay put.
The whole circle thing happens and when the skate guy says “wipeout!” Jake skates up to her and throws the milkshake, causing El to fall back.
Chad caught it all on camera and we see that it was around 2:36 (important)
El goes to hide in the staff closet and looks out of the window to see Angela and her friends laughing at the video of the whole thing.
El walks out to try and make Angela apologize and tell Mike that it was a joke (which would never work anyway because I doubt Angela would want to talk to Mike, plus that isn’t something your friends do to you). That would also mean convincing mike that they ARE friends. Angela doesn’t want to and brings up El’s “mean stare” and laughs. She says sorry for el because she can’t cry to the teacher (Ms Gracey), so she tells her to cry to daddy, which she knows el can’t do and says “oh wait, can’t do that either.” They laugh and walk away.
Now at this point, she’s brung up Hopper twice, and this is OUT of school. She learned that hopper was dead the day before and still brung it up. Angela had to have been thinking about that for a while to bring it up again.
At this point El is pissed at Angela. She criticized her project, tripped her, embarrassed her, and brung up her “dead” dad.
She grabs a skate from a random boy and walks behind Angela, who doesn’t know what’s about to happen. El finally calls Angela’s name and when she turns around she hits her with the roller skate.
El feels bad after and mike and will rush over to see what happened. Mike is paralleled to Brenner when he asks what El did.
At the beginning of the next episode, it’s dark outside, meaning it has to be around 5-7 pm. I mentioned before that when chad was recording it was 2:36 exactly, which means Angela probably got hit around 3pm. Its still spring when this happens so it gets dark fast. Like I said it was really dark outside when the next episode starts and we hear sirens outside of the skating rink and a paramedic talking to Angela.
We still don’t know who called the cops for Angela. She had a grade 2 concussion so I doubt she’d be on the phone. I think it’s more likely that when her parents picked her up from the hospital, they made her explain what happened and then came to the realization. “Oh shit, my daughter was assaulted.” And decided to press charges for assault against El.
We don’t know who called the police but that’s what is best to assume. It shows that Angela definitely has some type of issues. She won’t let go of hopper, if she’s adopted, she could be insecure about not knowing her bio father or mother. Terry can’t interact with people and Andrew (Jane’s father) died in the Vietnam war. It that case, she’ll never know her biological father and she could only “see” her biological mother. In my opinion that’s enough to fuck somebody up to the point where they start acting like Angela was.
But that’s the end of this post for now, I have much more to say but a lot of it is going to be under the tags.

ON THIS DAY, April 26th, 1994, LIVE released Throwing Copper, their third album (second under the name Live), on Radioactive Records, a subsidiary of MCA Records. Had you cast your net into the sea of alt-rock circa 1991 to 1994, you would have been hard-pressed to find many bands cut from the same cloth. The explosion of alternative rock was a melting pot of styles. Rock music fans were open to diversity, with bands of different persuasions and influences sitting happily in most record collections.
Live were an unlikely success story. They were formed in York, Pennsylvania in 1984 by guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer, drummer Chad Gracey and vocalist Ed Kowalczyk. The band went through various names, including Action Front, Paisley Blues, and Club Fungus, before settling on Public Affection in January 1987. After the members graduated from high school, they recorded their first self-released album, The Death of a Dictionary, on cassette in 1989.
In 1990, they released an EP of demos produced by Jay Healy titled “Divided Mind, Divided Planet.” Venturing outside the confines of Pennsylvania, the band began playing regular concerts at CBGB in New York City, which helped earn them a contract with Radioactive Records in 1991. In June of that year, they changed their name to Live and released the album Mental Jewellery. While that album expanded the band’s fanbase, they were far from the dizzying highs they would achieve with the follow-up Throwing Copper.
In July of 1993, the band and producer, Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads fame, made their way to rural Minnesota to begin recording. Pachyderm Studio had become a go-to recording hideout for the alt-rock crowd of the mid-’90s. Nirvana cut In Utero there in 1993, Soul Asylum laid down Grave Dancers Union in 1992, and PJ Harvey’s Rid Of Me was birthed there, also in 1993. Buried deep within a secluded old-growth forest in rural Minnesota, the environment helped quell outside distractions.
If Live’s modus operandi for Throwing Copper was to strive for a more ambitious sound than Mental Jewellery, they succeeded. Opening with the atmospheric, tension-filled “The Dam at Otter Creek”, it’s immediately apparent the band is in no rush to hit the listener with a “hook” and reel them in quickly. The song is a masterclass in tension building, exploding in frenzied chaos at about two-thirds of the way through, providing a euphoric release. A song of this intensity may have alienated the casual listener who first tossed it in a CD deck, but its masterful tension and release perfectly set up the next song.
In tone, “Selling The Drama” is the opposite of “The Dam At Otter Creek”. It’s optimistic and packed with enough jangle to rival REM. The song became a massive hit for the band. It’s clear and direct, filled with hooks pouring from Taylor’s electric guitar, Gracey’s always-powerful drum beats, and Kowalczyk’s melodic and insistent vocals. However, Dahlheimer’s incredibly inventive bass lines give the song an edge. “Selling the Drama” was the first of three singles from this album to reach #1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.
Throwing Copper coughed up five stellar singles, with three going to number 1. One song that didn’t hit the top spot commercially as a single but certainly hit a high water mark as far as quality goes is “I Alone.” Its arrangement, on paper, is a tried and true trope of 90’s alternative rock writing. By 1994, the Quiet Verse/Loud Chorus shtick was becoming old hat. Yet somehow, with “I Alone”, Live manages to wrangle searing emotional weight out of this dynamic and deliver a thrilling classic.
Opening the song “Iris,” Ed Kowalczyk is backed by a single electric guitar chord, he implores, “I liked the way my hand looked on your head. In the presence of my knuckles. But the beauty of this vision alone, just like yesterday’s sunset. Has been perverted by the sentimental and mistaken for love.” Patrick Dahlheimer’s creeping bass embellishes the song’s eerie atmosphere before Chad Gracey cracks a whip-like snare, introducing the band’s tight, punctuated roar. In the blink of an eye, they return to the spacious atmospherics. This perfectly weighted yin-yang gives way to a cinematic, big-sky chorus that soars.
“Lightning Crashes” became an instant classic. Taylor’s flange-drenched guitar chords complement Kowalczyk’s expressive vocals. It’s a story of life and death in a hospital setting. Musically, the band shows impeccable restraint and is careful not to intrude on Kowalczyk’s vocal delivery and storytelling. The band wrote the song in memory of Barbara Lewis, a classmate who was killed by a drunk driver in 1993.
“Top” opens with a succession of single-strummed guitar chords and heavy, exclamation point downbeats over which Kowalczyk does his best, Michael Stipe wails. Soon, the song’s verse locks into a gripping dark funk followed by a gorgeously vast chorus. “All Over You” is a sparkling barnburner packed with rollercoaster dynamics. A live favourite, the band tear through the songs fluctuating crescendos.
Songwriters have long written about dead-end towns and their interpersonal dynamics. “Shite Towne” is a worthy addition to that canon. Kowalczyk poetically lays out, in beautifully descriptive passages, the mundane psychodrama of ordinary life. “The Weavers live up the street from me. The crackheads, they live down the street from me. The tall grass makes it hard to see beyond my property. Hey man, this is criminal; it’s hardline symmetry of people and pets.”
“T.B.D.”, which stands for Tibetan Book of the Dead, is based on Aldous Huxley’s slow descent into death, aided by heroin. Kowalczyk was never one to shy away from the deeper side of things. On the band’s previous album, Mental Jewerley, the writings of Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti became a powerful inspiration, so too; on Throwing Copper, he delves deep into philosophy, spirituality and the harrowing beauty of everyday life.
Another standout is the Kurt Cobain/Courtney Love-inspired “Stage.” It’s a caustic ripper. Kowalczyk wails, “We are, by and large, the same. But words are too feeble; they cannot contain. He was a rock and roll messiah; she was known for her childcare.” “Waitress,” like many songs on Throwing Copper, offers far more depth than a cursory glance might provide. In this case, the humble art of tipping a waitress opens a dialogue around the hopes and dreams of everyone despite their social standing. “The girl’s got family. She needs cash to buy aspirin for her pain; everybody’s good enough for some change, some fucking change.” One suspects the “change” Kowalczyk is referring to isn’t monetary.
The mournful bass of Patrick Dahlheimer opens “Pillar Of Davidson.” The song was written about the plight of poorly compensated factory workers who were treated like machines. Their life purpose slowly eroded to make money for others. Growing up in York, Pennsylvania, a working-class town home to the Harley Davidson motorcycle factory and other industrial plants inspired the song. Kowalczyk credits the band with helping him escape a similar fate.
“Most of the kids in our situation don’t get fair shots because of the sheltered quality of life in a small town like York,” he said in 1995. “Thank God for this band; it was our ticket to see the world.”
The apocalyptic “White, Discussion” is a scathing and cynical look at political correctness. The line, “All of this discussion, though politically correct. Is dead beyond destruction, though it leaves me quite erect.” Kowalczyk’s weariness over “disenchanting discourse” found a new layer of meaning in the age of social media – a fact that wasn’t lost on the singer as he performed the song ahead of the album’s 25th anniversary.
“I was thinking that the other night onstage. We were playing it, and lyrically, it could have come out yesterday and made a lot of sense to people,” he said in 2019. “Twenty-five years ago, I was singing about these things, and twenty-five years later, they still have these themes. They’re perennial. They don’t change that much.”
Throwing Copper is a beautifully constructed, written and performed masterpiece. In 1994, nobody knew it yet, but this album marked a tipping point for alternative rock. Many attribute Live with the beginnings of the dreaded “post-grunge” era. But Throwing Copper doesn’t bear any of the hallmarks of that movement. This is an album of genuine passion, depth, and gilt-edged songwriting.
Live were alt-rock titans for a very short time in the mid-90s. The album sold over eight million copies. Fans from all corners of the alternative rock spectrum loved it. Unfortunately, they couldn’t match the honest immediacy of Throwing Copper on subsequent releases (although the follow-up certainly had its moments).
Anyone keeping abreast of the current state of the band’s interpersonal dramas and dysfunction (which would make even Fleetwood Mac blush) knows an album of this quality is probably not on the cards any time soon. Throwing Copper was a perfect companion piece for that time—a palate cleanser after the brooding, dark brilliance of the early part of the decade.
Essential…!

You're probably not going to be surprised after finding out about Live's highly interesting career in these discussion on their discs they have transformed themselves into one of the rare post-grunge survivors. Still, their tale has a detour towards their current situation in the form of The Turn. You see, Ed Kowalczyk abandoned them at one point and the rest of the group decided to continue with Chris Shinn who made Live more generic. Mind you, I am not trying to slight his singing, he does have the pipes for the genre, yet his voice floats a bit too much over the soundscapes, whereas Mr. Kowalczyk manages to be their peer. Then again, Mr. Shinn must have felt timid and perhaps he could have developed as a frontman, had he had more time to work with the collective.

Even now the world is bleedin’  But feelin’ just fine all numb  In our castle where we’re always free  To choose never free enough  To find I wish somethin’ would break  Cause we’re runnin’ out of time

Harry Hook x Reader - Haunting frights - Halloween oneshot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
=
“No, not happenin’”
It was Halloween night, and the main sets of vks all stood in the main hall of Bens castle, the younger vks, such as Skipper and Sterling, were already out in the kingdom trick or treating with Harriet and CJ, leaving the rest to mingle at Beast and Belle’s Halloween bash.
And Chad had dared them all to go to the old Gracey mansion that many of the Auradon children went to on all hallows eve night. Hoping to get scared from the supposed haunts that wandered within the decaying walls of the ‘abandoned’ mansion.
And while most of the vks were good with going, there was one particular pirate who did not do ‘scary’ or ‘haunted’ things. And that pirate was Harry Hook, dressed as a cursed (think black pearl) version of himself, his black sclera contact covered eyes glaring at Chad as the prince grinned at him “there is no way im steppin’ foot in tha’ nasty ol’ house, what if it isn’t sound anymore?”
“Harry” Uma interrupted, her tone bored “you actually jumped off a roof yesterday, what’s got you shaken about a house that is a bit creaky”
“Do I have ta’ tell yeh again Uma” Harry whined, bouncing on his heels a bit “controool, I had control over jumping and had safe landing ahead of time. Going inta’ a creepy decayin’ ol’ house has no control whatsoever”
“And here I thought Harry wasn’t scared of nothing” Mal muttered to Ben, who snickered a bit as Harry continued to push against the idea of all of them going to the mansion.
“Are you guys talking about the old Gracey mansion?” Harry felt his body flood with butterflies as your voice suddenly appeared from behind him, he turned and smiled at you, once again admiring your costume (which is whatever yall want it to be).
“uh-“ Harry tried to explain what had been going on the last few moments but Chad interrupted.
“yeah, dared em to go, but Harry’s being a-“ Chad was stopped by Harry’s hand slapping over his mouth and Harry's black eyes glaring down at him, making the prince shiver in his shined boots.
“Oh, I've been wanting to go there forever, never had the chance to” you hummed out, stepping next to harry and smiling at him “can I go with you guys?” Uma snorted to herself; Harry was putty under your hands so she was just waiting for Harry’s strong resolution to break for you.
“uh, sure. Yeh can go with us” Harry said, his voice cracking a bit, yet to realize what he had just agreed to. Uma smiled and rolled her eyes, just like she said, putty in your hands. Chad laughed under Harry’s glove and took out his phone, sending the directions to Jay who was most likely going to drive everyone out.
“have fun you guys, and don’t die of fright!” Chad teased, yelping as Harry and Mal swiped at him. Chad bolted back into the ballroom where the party was still going.
“alright” Jay sighed, pulling out his phone from his skeleton pants “I guess we're going to the Gracey mansion.” The vks (plus Ben and Jane, who were going for their s/o’s) left the castle hall and piled into one big black van, Jay and Carlos in the front while everyone else climbed into the back, you and Harry chilling in the front row with Gil and Ben. (Harry is a long boi, he gets front row privilege)
Harry curled into you as Jay drove the van out of Auradon city and into the more rouge area of the enchanted woods, and while the trees seemed to be taken care of and lush with life, there was an eerie air to the forest surrounding them that sent chills down everyone's spine.
“Okay, this is a bit freakier than I thought it was going to be” Mal muttered, pressing the side of her face to Evie’s shoulder. Dizzy and Evie hummed in agreement, while Celia was sticking her face to the window to watch the creepy trail pass her by. (girl is the daughter of  a shadow man, she doesn’t get scared by ‘freaky’ things that much)
Harry grabbed your arm as a fog started to flood the road and surrounding area, Jay quickly switched to the low beams as he slowed down on the dirt road. You absolutely didn’t mind Harry's hand on you, in fact, you moved your arm up and intertwined your fingers as you spotted the large looming shadow of the mansion coming closer through the fog. “wow” you muttered, leaning forward a bit to get a better look “its…not as decayed as I thought it would be?”
And you were right, the outside seemed almost pristine, the paint looked almost new, the gardens perfectly tended to, not a leaf on the path leading up to the main gates. It was as if someone had been taking care of the house the entire time.
Jay slowed to a stop just outside the black metal gates and turned off the car, and everyone started to climb out, Celia and Dizzy being the first to hit the dirt. You stepped next to them, eyes on the house number on the stone pillars that supported the main gates.
“nine-hundred and ninety-nine” you hummed, stepping back close to Harry and the others as you looked around the lot of the mansion “place is kinda nice actually” Celia nodded in agreement but everyone was still heavily creeped out.
“come on” Harry mutated, walking towards the gates and preparing to climb them “let’s get this over with” but before he could grab them, the metal gates slowly swung open, the screech of metal echoing across the courtyard. “okay” Harry shivered, shaking his arms a bit “that was creepy”
For once, everyone was in agreement, Celia and Dizzy clinging to Uma and Evie as the group walked into the courtyard, and your eyes were immediately caught by the large graveyard that nearly surrounded the mansion. “this place is huge” you muttered, stopping as you spotted a faint light moving from one window of the mansion to the next “is that a-?”
All of a sudden Jane screamed, leaping backward towards Carlos and Gil, the two tensing up as a lanky shadow holding a lantern came near the group “who's there, show yerself!” Harry yelled out, hand resting on his sword and hook at the ready.
The shadow came into the moon-light, his gaunt face finally Illuminated “I think I have more right to ask you that boy” the old man croaked out, next to him,  his dog wearily looked at the group. “im the groundskeeper, my job to keep the outside lookin’ like this” you glanced at the house, then looked at the windows, spotting a few cobwebs inside.
“who takes care of the inside then?” you asked, gripping onto Harry's hand as he backed away from the groundskeeper.
The old man suddenly looked afraid, glancing at the mansion. He started to shake, his lantern clanking a bit “they do” Ben looked confused at that, stepping forward a bit.
“They who?” Ben asked, jumping a bit as the groundskeeper shook his head.
“They, the ghosts, they command the mansion within its walls” he croaked out, turning to go back into the graveyard, then he stopped “you-you all don’t plan to step inside? Do you?”
“We got dared” Jay supplied, and the groundskeeper shook his head again.
“Be wary, for there have been some who go inside, who never come out, and they join the haunt.” He looked up to the mansion “for your sake, I hope you don’t meet your demise” when Mal was going to ask him what he meant by that he walked away, his lantern disappearing behind the hills of the graveyard
You jumped a bit as you heard the sound of horse hoofs and a moving carriage, and you looked around, continuing to grip onto Harry's arm “yeh hear tha’ too?” Harry whispered, his now contactless free eyes looking around wildly.
“yeah” you muttered, pulling Harry along as Jay started to walk up the path to the mansion. “let's go” Harry nodded, moving his hand up to grab your hand and following after you. He stood on the bottom step with you as Jay went to open the doors, finding them surprisingly unlocked. “ye’d think a place like this would be locked?” Harry said aloud, the group nodded in agreement and walked into the mansion, where you found the inside was much more…. decrepit than the outside.
Cobwebs, dust, spiders, rats, bats, faded wallpaper, ripped furniture, broken mirrors, long melted candles, rumpled carpets, chipped and peeling paint. It was just…haunting.
“I guess we start from here? Try to stay together” Ben announced, taking out a mini flashlight and clicking it on, but he only made it a few feet before it quickly flickered out “uhhhh, that’s not supposed to happen” Ben muttered, using the moonlight streaming through a dusty window to take out the batteries, blow on them, and put them back in. But as he tried to click the flashlight on, nothing happened “these are new batteries! I just bought them yesterday.”
Mal frowned, looking around the main foyer they were in, and grabbed a candelabra. She waved her hand just above the candles, and they ignited with flames. “there” Mal muttered, handing it to Ben “that can’t be drained of power”
Ben smiled in thanks and continued down the main hall, the group entering into a large room with four portraits that decorated the walls surrounding him. Gil let out a small whistle, admiring the gargoyles that were stationed above them. “cool room” he mumbled, stopping as he noticed the door they had entered through had disappeared. “uh guys?”
Uma and Jay turned to look at him “the doors gone” Ben spun around at that, Harry rushing towards where the door had been and slamming against it.
“WHAT THE FUCK” Harry yelled out as Ben looked worriedly around the room, maybe coming here wasn’t such a good idea if they were going to get stuck in one room.
Welcome, foolish mortals; to the haunted mansion.
Everyone screamed as a sudden disembodied voice echoed around them, Celia and Dizzy clinging to Uma as you and Harry slammed into each other, wrapping your arms around each other tightly “w-what the fuck!?” Carlos yelled, whipping his head around to possibly find a speaker “okay if this place is actually haunted I’m going to kill Chad!”
I, am your host; your… ghost host
The disembodied voice, the ‘ghost host’, chuckled sinisterly, and the gargoyles candles suddenly flared to life, sending everyone into another screaming fit. Mal’s eyes glowed bright green with panic, and Uma’s shell began to glow as well.
Our tour begins here in this gallery, where you can see paintings of some of our guests, as they appear in their…corruptible, mortal state.
Mal clenched her fist and it ignited with green fire, about to blast her way out of the room when Uma stopped her “girl you’re just gonna burn the whole place down and us with it! We have to think this through” she tossed Mal's hand down as the fae glared at her “we don’t have time for rash decisions if we want to make it out unscathed, so no fires.” Mal just bared her teeth a bit and pouted to Ben, who offered a single sympathetic pat.
Jane screamed a bit as the room suddenly started to stretch, the group staring in horror as the paintings turned from creepily charming, to hauntingly horrific.
Your cadaverous pallor betrays an aura of foreboding. Almost as if you sense a disquieting metamorphosis.
The ‘ghost host’ chuckled again, and the paintings continued to stretch along with the room.
Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination? Hmm? And consider this dismaying observation; this chamber has no windows and no doors.
Which offers you this chilling challenge! To find a way out! Hahahaha~!!
Of course, there's always…my way~
The room went dark and from above a man, no a corpse, was hanging from the rafters which you could see through the broken glass ceiling. Suddenly, the room seemed to drop, the group screaming as a high-pitched scream echoed along with you. The room crashed into the ground and the lights flared back to life, and a secret door on the opposite side of the room creaked open.
Oh~ I didn't mean to frighten you prematurely~
The ‘ghost host’ chuckled again as the group rushed out of the room, desperate to get out of that death trap.
“oh really?” Uma muttered sarcastically, holding Celia and Dizzy’s hands as Gil was busy huddling with Jane and Carlos. “hard to believe.”
The real chills come later. Now, as they say ‘look alive’. And we’ll continue our little tour. And let's all stay together, please.
The group wearily walked down a dark and cold hallway, shadows of dead trees, that were definitely not dead outside, dancing across the walls. You looked up at the portraits decorating the right side of the hall, and you could swear you saw them change into a monstrous version of themselves. You regripped Harry's arm, and continued along with the group, shivers running down your spine as you felt eyes on you.
Harry glanced to the side, glaring at two stone busts that seemed to follow them. But that was impossible…right? He huffed, wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you back to group that had gone ahead slightly “don’ leave us behind” Harry gruffed out, Gil reaching out and grabbing Harry’s other hand as he caught up with them.
Harry jumped as the ‘ghost host’ began to speak again as they walked into the main stairway, the marble flooring and stairs that were once shiny and new, was cracked with dust and decay.
There are several prominent ghosts who have retired here, from creepy old crypts, all over the world. Actually, we have nine hundred and ninety-nine happy haunts here~ but there's room for one more, any volunteers ~?
Jane shook her head with a prominent ‘nope’ slipping from her lips, Jay slowing down a bit to look at the top of the stairs after a shimmer caught his eye, he tilted his head, trying to figure out if he had imagined it or not.
If you insist on lagging behind, you may not deed to volunteer.
Jay squeaked and bolted forward to catch up with his friends, feeling something following close behind, but he dared not look back. He slammed into Mal, who stumbled to catch herself “that’s what you get for falling behind” she wheezed under his weight, Jay shook slightly, looking back down the pitch-black hallway.
“I hate it here” he muttered, climbing off of Mal and hurrying to step beside Ben “let’s get out of here, quickly”
“I think we might have to take the tour first” Ben whispered worriedly, lifting the candelabra higher to get a better look at the new hallway they were entering.
We find it delightfully unlivable here in this ghostly retreat, every room has wall to wall creeps~ and hot and cold, running chills~
You entered another long hallway, and to your right you saw another hallway, freezing as you noticed the floating candlestick on the other side. “uh, Harry?” you whispered, pressing yourself further into his side “um” he looked to where you were looking and froze as well, wide eyes locked onto the candlestick that was moving around with no human holding it.
“fuck that” he whispered, grabbing your hand and starting to move down the hall away from the floating candlestick but was stopped by the suit of armor suddenly moving and attacking the rest of the group.
Ben and Mal screamed, Ben grabbing Mal's hand and the two bolting off in the direction of the floating candlestick hall. Evie, Uma, Celia, and Dizzy running down the main hallway where you had been heading and disappearing into the darkness. Carlos, Jane, and Gil ran off back towards the main hall, all screaming their heads off.
“fuck fuck fuck” Harry squeezed your hand and ran after Uma and the girls, taking out his lighter and quickly lighting up another candelabra before taking it and running with you again, hand clenched tightly around yours.
You passed by a room with a coffin inside, a corpse inside trying to get out, a hallway full of doors with haunts and monsters behind them trying to break through, a clock that spun constantly, and haunting mini portraits.
Finally, you burst into a large room, with a floating crystal ball in the middle, a woman's head inside as she seemed to be summoning spirits from within the house.
‘Serpents and spiders, tail of a rat; call in the spirits, wherever they're at. Rap on a table; it's time to respond. Send us a message from somewhere beyond. Goblins and ghoulies from last Halloween: awaken the spirits with your tambourine. Creepies and crawlies, toads in a pond; let there be music, from regions beyond! Wizards and witches, wherever you dwell, give us a hint, by ringing a bell!”
As the woman spoke, bells, tambourines, knocks, and music started to play from the blackness surrounding the room “is it just me or does she sound like Mal’s mom?” you whispered, not wanting to disturb the woman’s séance. Harry nodded in agreement, if anything, she also sounded like Dizzy’s grandma. (lil fact; Madame Leota is voiced by Eleanor Audley, who also voiced Maleficent, and Lady Tremaine)
You continued out of the room, jumping as the ‘ghost host’ began to speak again after almost half an hour.
The happy haunts have received your sympathetic vibrations, and are beginning to materialize
“Beginning?” Harry muttered, glancing back at the pitch-black room you had both just excited and walking onto a large balcony hallway that hangover what looked like a mid-sized ballroom.
They’re assembling for a swinging wake, and they’ll be expecting me. I'll see you two, a little later.
As you looked over the rails, you spotted maybe more than 25 haunts partying down below, along with them seemingly celebrating a birthday party, if the old woman ghost blowing out candles was to be of any hint. your attention was directed to a group of dancers and a man playing a large organ, skulls flying out the top where the notes echoed from.
“looks like they’re having fun” you muttered, taking Harry's hand again as he started to walk down the balcony hall “where do you think Uma and the girls went?”
“I have no clue, lets jus’ find a way out” he muttered, lifting the candelabra towards a flight of stairs that seemed to lead to a large cold room illuminated in a soft blue glow. He turned to the left, where the hallway continued in pitch-black darkness. He sighed, grabbing your hand again and creeping up the stairs, ready to grab his hook and sword if need be.
You slowed down as a heartbeat started to echo from the back of the attic you were entering, the cold wind from a broken widow sending chills down your spine as you looked around the room. it was littered with decaying wedding gifts and wedding portraits, the husbands changing to have their heads gone then reappear every few seconds. “creepy” you muttered, freezing in place as a woman's raspy voice started to echo from where the heart was beating.
‘Here comes the bride... For better or for... worse,’ the woman laughed, a cruel, sinister one that left you with a pit in your stomach ‘We'll live happily ever... after, Till death... do us part...’ as you rounded the corner, you both froze in fear as you spotted the ghostly form of a bride, staring the two of you down with a sinister smile on her face, her eyes black with a horrific past. ‘oh, a new husband’ she purred, floating towards you and Harry as you started to quickly step back to avoid her ‘don’t worry, I’ll take good….care….of him’ she laughed again, that cruel laugh that had ominous intentions behind it.
“over my dead body,” you muttered, grabbing Harry’s hand and running out of the attic, the bride picking up something metal and chasing after you and Harry. Harry dropped the candelabra, the lit candles thankfully extinguishing as they hit the floor. You raced down the attic steps and took a hard right, away from the haunting party and into the dark hall, the bride still hunting you down.
You looked behind you and screamed, her black eyes glowing yellow as she held a sharp hatchet. “run, RUN” you yelled out, Harry gripping your hand tightly as you rushed down a set of stairs that left into the hallway of doors, the ghouls behind it even louder and rougher this time as they continued to try to escape.
‘Here comes the bride~’ the bride taunted as you ran into the main stairway area from earlier and ran forward into the hallway on the other side. Harry panted as he skidded to a stop and pulled you through an open door, going down the steep steps with swift footsteps and keeping you close.
You shivered as you ran into a wall of cold, looking around the darkness you realized you were in the crypt. ‘there you are’ The bride appeared behind you and you and Harry screamed in fear, collapsing to the floor, Harry protecting you in his arms as the bride raised her hatchet to the sky. ‘till death, do us part!’
“Harry I just want you to know I have the biggest crush on you!” you yelled quickly, tears pricking at your eyes as Harry held you close.
“same here!” Harry yelled back, closing his eyes in preparation for feeling metal about to be embedded in his head.
Behind you, through the exit of the crypt that lead to the above-ground gave yard, the sun began to rise, beams of light shining through the hall. The bride, just as she was about to swing down on Harry’s head, disappeared as soon as the first beam hit her. She screamed in frustration, having been banished back to the attic until the next nightfall.
A cold blast of wind blew across your bodies, and you opened your eyes to see the bride gone “Harry” you patted his chest quickly, sitting up with his arms still around you “she's gone” you turned, smiling as you spotted the beams of light “its day!”
Harry snapped open his eyes and sat up, smiling and laughing as he turned to see the sunlight “we made it!” Harry cheered, you both hugged so tightly, Harry falling on his back as you both laughed.
“We didn’t die~!!” you cheered, sitting back up and cupping his cheeks “I’m going to kiss you, okay?”
He didn’t answer, just grabbing your face and pressing a hard passionate kiss to your lips. You tossed your arms around his neck and held him tight, tilting your head and deepening the kiss as best as you could.
You split after a few moments, you pecked his lips one last time and stood, holding your hand out to him “let's get outta here” you smiled, Harry grinned back and grabbed your hand, the two of you bolting out of the crypt, with a tiny little ghoul waving you goodbye from down below in the crypt. Along with the ‘ghost host’ calling goodbye.
You rushed out into the sunlight, gasping in relief as you saw the rest of your friends standing in the courtyard arguing over something. As you got closer you heard Uma talking over the rest of them “(y/n) and Harry is still in there! We need to go find them!”
“that place is a maze!” Mal countered, crossing her arms “I say we stay out here until they-hey there they are!” Mal pointed behind Uma to you and Harry, who were running up to the group.
“HOLY SHIT YOU TWO” Uma screamed, bolting over to you and hugging you and Harry tightly “we lost you so early into the night! I thought you were gonna be in there forever!”
“so did we” you chuckled weakly, sharing a smile with Harry. That bride…if it had been a moment longer to sunrise, you’d probably be without a Harry. Gil joined the hug a moment later, rubbing the back of Harry's head.
“dude” he pulled away, grabbing Harry's shoulders “there was this ghost, and its head disappeared into its box”
“We saw a woman’s head inside a floating crystal ball, and a crazy bride with a hatchet.” Harry said back, Gil laughed and hugged Harry again as Uma clung to you.
“How bout we all get out of here, never come back, and get some sleep …and food” Ben offered, the group immediately agreed and started to walk out of the courtyard, Ben offering a courteous wave to the groundskeeper who looked surprised to see you all alive.
He waved goodbye and watched the van drive off, you and Harry cuddled in the front, holding hands as the mansion disappeared from view.

Our evening started off with a long walk to the venue, due to the long queues that stretched for meters past the entrance to the casino.
We eventually arrive with quite a good view from the Golden Circle. I was eager to see what the opening band would be like, especially since I know that they have a female lead singer. The name of the band is The Sweet Resistance and they are a South African alternative pop rock band, but the lead singer Tash hails from Canada. They released their debut album in September 2016, titled “Where There Is Hope”.
The band opened up their set and the crowd was silent, trying to gauge the band’s performance. It didn’t take me long to realize that this band was a solid unit and not intimidated by their position as the supporting band for Live’s Reunion Tour.
The Sweet Resistance performed an impressive cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive”. View their performance here:
The band ended their set and I was so glad that I got introduced to them as I would definitely go and watch a performance of theirs if I get the chance.
The crowd naturally couldn’t wait for Live to take to the stage. You could see the happiness on each of the band members’ faces as they came on, grateful to be doing what they are doing, together again.
Live currently consists of Ed Kowalczyk on (lead vocal, rhythm guitar), Chad Taylor (lead guitar, backing vocals), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums).
The band  brought along two touring band members Zak Loy (rhythm guitar) and Adam Diaz (drums). The two drum sets on stage were a real treat and I can honestly say that I haven’t been to a live performance with a similar set-up.
The excitement in the air was tangible as the band opened their set with “All Over You”. The sound was incredible and honestly the best sound quality I have experienced at the Grand Arena.
“Pain Lies On The Riverside” is such a melodious song, due to the skillful layering of each instrument that the band plays and it translates so well during a live performance.
The band performed the ever-popular “Dolphin’s Cry” early on in the set, to my surprise and utter delight. Personally I think hearing this song live alone is an honour and worth every penny of the ticket price. It is such an iconic song of my youth and one of the songs that my generation use to relate to the band.
“Selling the Drama” did exactly that, the breakdown when the chorus hits is magical and it is a great song for the band’s guitarists to indulge in.
Live even treated us to their cover of Johnny Cash’s “Walk The Line”, which was a refreshing addition to their set and certainly one I didn’t expect.
Live performed “Sh*t Towne” which is about the town where the guys grew up and hated it at the time. The excitement on their faces was evident when they played that song and you could see the bond they share over that song. They like visiting their town in the current day, because there is more life there now in comparison to when they were growing up.
“I Alone” has become one of my all-time favourite songs and I can’t get the song to play loud enough. It is a raw and powerful song on all fronts, lyrically and musically. The song emits an energy, which you can only convey when you mean every word of what you are singing. I find that this song is more aggressive in nature in comparison to many of their other songs and it is one that will defy age. I was privileged to witness this song performed live and I couldn’t absorb that moment long enough.
“Lakini’s Juice” is a delightful, gritty piece of music, with that signature rift threaded between the lyrics and drums. A song that hits you right between the eyes and doesn’t let go until the last note.
After another song, the band left the stage and the audience had instant separation anxiety and started chanting for the band to return.
Ed lead the encore on his own for the first part of “Heaven” where he forgot the words to the song, it was an endearing moment and the audience actually seemed to enjoy it. I felt for Ed, but he handled it extremely well and I’m selfishly glad that I caught the moment  on video.
“Run To The Water”, is an invigorating song and one of the highlights of the band’s discography. I always find the song refreshing, because it is about seeking solace.
The band performed a tribute to Chris Cornell with a cover version of Audioslave’s “I Am The Highway” which was touching.
After the encore, the crowd could not wait for the band to play “Lightning Crashes”, because I heard quite a few audience members becoming impatient. Once the band played the first few notes of that song the crowd went hysterical.

It was a fabulous night of quality performances!

She 💓💕 Today's featured artist is Elvis Costello She may be the face I can't forget The trace of pleasure or regret May be my treasure or the price I have to pay She may be the song that summer sings Maybe the chill that autumn brings Maybe a hundred different things Within the measure of a day. She may be the beauty or the beast May be the famine or the feast May turn each day into a Heaven or a Hell She may be the mirror of my dreams A smile reflected in a stream She may not be what she may seem Inside her shell. She, who always seems so happy in a crowd Whose eyes can be so private and so proud No one's allowed to see them when they cry She may be the love that cannot hope to last May come to me from shadows in the past That I remember 'till the day I die. She maybe the reason I survive The why and wherefore I'm alive The one I'll care for through the rough in many years. Me, I'll take her laughter her tears And make them all my souvenirs And where she goes I've got to be The meaning of my life is She, she Oh, she. Live differ from their peers within the oft-maligned genre of post-grunge by being more resilient than the vast majority of them one could claim thanks to their opus. You see, they could have stopped at any point, but they decided to keep going despite the fact they ended up like the bands of their ilk, i.e. they became delegated to the label that makes them the destroyers of alternative rock. Yes, I agree, the hyperbole that was used on the groups in their vein felt a bit too much, but Live probably took some of that. I mean, Songs From Black Mountain feels a more subdued affair for them. While there are still traces of their arena rock wishes, they intend to be calmer this time around. Of course, one could understand this as another response to their previous LP.
