I decided to work back into this old doodle of Denji a little. Maybe one day I'll be more comfy having more loose, messy linework but I'll have to work at that. Atm I am a painter at heart.
More thoughts and old drawing below
Old drawing is here, I still like it but I thought I could improve upon the face and make the colors more interesting, so I worked back into it over the original. I think he looks more sweaty and deranged in the old drawing though. There's no drastic difference, I mostly just did this for fun to cool down from a larger zine piece....

Denji can fool us into thinking he hasn’t changed a ton with his attitude and abrasive demeanor, but it’s stuff like this that makes me insane over his character growth/development when it comes to expressing concern.
Our boy went from this:
To this:
Denji’s regrets are constantly pushed to the side, and I don’t believe for a second that he doesn’t tell himself that it’s not worth dwelling on them. I mean, he has to have times of wondering if Aki and Power both knew how important they were to him. That maybe he should have been nicer to Aki, when Aki civilized him, and after the friction between them settled, made Denji feel like a human again. That he should have let Power know he loved her, since she craved affection in ways she never said. I mean, he doesn’t even deny that Yoshida is his friend here, when he’s called him a stalker and weirdo the whole time. It’s like, Denji has quietly learned that he can’t take people for granted, but he’s still having trouble implementing that idea into his behavior. His growth is so subtle outside of the major depression he is in, but it’s there and it’s both heartbreaking and fascinating.

The art hanging on the Devil Hunters' Bureau wall is one of the Doré Illustrations for Dante's Divine Comedy. The Illustrations by Gustave Dore (1832-1883) depict the passion and grandeur of Dante's masterpiece ― from the depths of Hell onto the mountain of Purgatory and up to the empyrean realms of Paradise.
As one critic wrote in 1861 upon publication of the illustrated Inferno: "we are inclined to believe that the conception and the interpretation come from the same source, that Dante and Gustave Doré are communicating by occult and solemn conversations the secret of this Hell plowed by their souls, traveled, explored by them in every sense."
