I call them My Chickadees, and they probably call me Their Ape. A privilege and an honor.

Balancing act...
... the edge of the bowl is slippery when wet. Someone forgot to put out the sign. Good save, Chickadee!

Its been really rainy here so I haven’t been filling my bird feeder as much because I don’t want the food getting soggy and growing mold/bacteria... I’ve also started putting peanuts into it.
...The birds have noticed. Oh my have they noticed. So much so that they know to sit on the back porch and scold me when its sunny out and the feeder is empty. Well, not so much the finches and sparrows because they’re chill, but damn do the jays, chickadees and titmice get MAD. They probably think they’re intimidating me into feeding them with their scratchy little shrieks and trills, but the joke’s on them because I think its adorable that I get bossed around by a bunch of irate fluffballs, especially when their combined weight is probably comparable to that of a large strawberry or perhaps a small apple.

BOTD: Chestnut-Backed Chickadee
Photo: Jon. D. Anderson
"The most colorful of the chickadees, the Chestnut-backed is common in the Northwest. Inland, it may overlap in range with up to three other close relatives; but in the very humid coastal belt, in wet forests of hemlock and tamarack, this is the only chickadee present. In those surroundings its rich chestnut colors may be hard to see, but it can still be recognized by its husky, fast chick-a-dee calls."

Mountain Chickadee and Chestnut-backed Chickadee
These are both birds I saw during my trip to Oregon. (I’m still in Oregon as I type this.) I live in a part of the US with no chickadees, so I’m always happy to see them when I travel.

Out on deck, trying to get some bird pics, when suddenly....
Photo-bombed by the Wizzard!
"I know you were trying to take mine photo, weren't ya Mom?"
Have to admit, was a bit startled there....
