Why isn’t there more love for Pete’s Dragon (1977) on this site.
Nora, played by Helen Reddy, is flipping #goals as far as Strong, Smart, Compassionate female characters go. Seriously, one of my favorite female leads, I want to be her.
It’s a story about a boy with an imaginary dragon friend, and as a kid watching it’s all about everyone believing in the dragon, and how the adults finally see that Elliott is real and deserving of love. But when you become an adult yourself, you see it’s all about Pete finding a home and a place in the world - he’s the dragon, and it’s really his story.
Jim Dale as the extremely zany and rather disgusting villain
Mickey Rooney as the wonderful, slightly insane lighthouse keeper, aka an iconic example of “that weird Disney trope of having at least one token drunk character for laughs??”
It’s a fun musical?? Like “Candle on the Water” and “Brazzle Dazzle Day” and “There’s Room for Everyone” are sooooo good. With technology how it is today, and the new Pete’s Dragon movie being so well-received, can we get a Broadway production of the old Pete’s Dragon up and running, write some new songs and reintroduce the world to these old gems??
Did I mention the primary set location is a lighthouse?
“Candle on the Water” sung by Helen was nominated for an Academy Award
Don Bluth was the animation director, and though it didn’t score very well with critics, many of the animation processes used were breaking new ground in uncharted territory - see, “yellow screens” as opposed to the well-known green screen.
The score is of Irwin Kostal’s creation (also Academy Award nominated btw), a genius who worked on composing/arranging/directing for other films such as West Side Story, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Fantasia, and The Sound of Music, among others. (also, the Broadway shows of West Side Story, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Gigi, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, etc)
This movie was such a big part of my childhood, even if it was out before I was born, I love it so much, but I know like seven other people who even know it exists and it makes me so sad.

Note
I'm an older female auditioning for ensemble in Hunchback of Notre Dame. I'm also alto, any good song suggestions (Disney themed??) Thanks for your help
I’d suggest the title song from Beauty and the Beast, The Age of Not Believing from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Candle on the Water from Pete’s Dragon, Feed The Birds from Mary Poppins, and Living in the Shadows from Victor/Victoria.

My name is OMI. I am Xiaolin Dragon of Water! (Well, I am still in training, but shhh....I am destined to become one, soon. Tomorrow will not be soon enough.) I team up with other Xiaolin Warriors: KIMIKO, Xiaolin Dragon of Fire, a super girly fireball with fierce upper body strength (it's true, I personally tested it). RAIMUNDO, Xiaolin Dragons of Wind, whose charming smiles mask deadly tornado spins that can blow a 800-pound evil baddy far far away just for giggles. CLAY, Xiaolin Dragons of Earth, a gentle cowboy with gentler Tai Chi moves that pack a not-so-gentle wallop. (Baby goats love him!) And PING PONG, Xiaolin Dragon of Wood, my mini-me admirer who has a long way to go since he just joined the temple. Together, we must join forces to protect the SHEN GONG WU, sacred objects that hold mystical powers, against the dark forces of evil for whoever that controls all the Shen Gong Wu will win. So there is no time to waste on the chitty-chatty, especially when JACK SPICER, evil boy genius mama's boy is forming off/on convenient alliances with WUYA, the ancient floating ghost lady face, to aid in his world domination fantasy.
What's the most fun for me/us? The SHOWDOWNS for certain! And in this theatre, we are featuring DOUBLE SHOWDOWNS! This means Double Happiness for all of us. Yippee! This is part of the Special Edition from Christy Hui the creator herself!
What's next? It is my most sincere hope that we start work on more Xiaolin! All of us Dragon Warriors are super HOT on a continuing Xiaolin saga! We live for our mystical adventures. (Well, it is also my day job.) It is wondrous, just like eating ice cream all day every day and not get fat or brain freezes! (I have a special way to control my chi.)
Here is the bottom of the bottomest line—Support our Xiaolin Temple Theatre for this is the first baby-goat step on our journey to make more Xiaolin happen.
WATCH, SHARE & GIVE US MANY MANY STARS! Let's go DOUBLE SHOWDOWN!!!
Yours truly Omi.

I'm still doing my RRR adjacent dragons. In this case, we have Kusa (From Jai Lava Kusa) as a wind dragon -hence his wings are feathered- and Chitti Babu (From Rangasthalam) as a water dragon. They love each other very much.

As I keep drawing my dragons, here are Chitti the water dragon with Lava the tree dragon. His horns bloom when he's happy with different flowers. Roses means he's in love.
