Chrysler Valiant Charger VJ, 1973. The Charger model name was used for a short wheelbase version of Chrysler Australia’s concurrent Valiant sedan. It had been introduced in 1971 and was an instant success at one point accounting for 80% of Australian Valiant production. However sales fell away and though the Charger continued to be offered through VK and CL model series production ended on August 16, 1978

This car is interesting. It appears to be a CL Chrysler Valiant Charger but painted in the livery of the race homologation R/T Chargers from the original VH range. More specifically the decals are from the E49 Charger which got a 4 speed Borg Warner single rail gearbox to replace the previous models 3 speed box. Wheels are also R/T spec and i would expect it to have an R/T spec 265 cubic inch hemi 6 with triple webers under the bonnet. For those unaware the HEY licence plates are a homage to the original advertising campaign where the catch cry was “HEY, CHARGER”

Chuck it in the Ute mate: Part 8 Chrysler Valiant Drifter Utility, 1977. The CL series Australian Valiant was the last to offer a ute version, the Drifter special edition came with either a 265ci in-line 6 or 318ci V8 with 4-speed manual as the only transmission option
