Longhorns will have the chance to learn how to cook simple, healthy recipes at pop-up events during National Nutrition Month. University Housing and Dining is hosting the Cook Wise Pop-Ups, featuring recipes that students can prepare where they live using basic ingredients and equipment.
Seven student ambassadors will be offering live cooking demonstrations at the pop-ups. The first 50 students to attend will receive a packaged kit containing the ingredients for the recipe so they can make it at home.

“We want Longhorns to take ownership of their health. We’re in the same shoes as them so it’s easier for students to relate when we talk about healthy eating,” shared senior nutrition major Annie Lee, who is also a Texas Nutrition member and College of Natural Sciences’ School of Human Ecology student assistant.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics launched this nationwide nutrition education month in 1973. For more than a decade, University Housing and Dining has participated with healthy eating and cooking tips aimed to help students have a better university experience.
“Eating healthy helps our students perform better in the classroom. It’s one thing to know the right thing to eat, but if it’s not accessible it’s not going to be attainable,” said Registered Dietitian Lindsay Wilson.
