"The entire country has witnessed with deep emotion his prolonged and patient struggle with painful disease, and has watched by his couch of suffering with tearful sympathy...The great heart of the nation that followed him when living with love and pride bows now in sorrow above him dead, tenderly mindful of his virtues, his great patriotic services, and of the loss occasioned by his death."
-- President Grover Cleveland, Proclamation Announcing the Death of former President Ulysses S. Grant, July 23, 1885

I respect the right of anyone on here to not read about horrifying shit on Tumblr.
To that end:
Anything pertaining to or about our current president will be tagged Grover Cleveland 2.0
Anything pertaining to the crazy shit happening as a result of this current administration will be tagged these precedented times
I hope that everyone reading this is doing their best to be informed about stuff but my stupid blog or Tumblr in general doesn't have to be part of how you do that. Block the tags at will.
If you want anything else tagged so you don't have to see it any more, let me know.

Pocharapon Neammanee at HuffPost:
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed that the U.S. economy was beginning to ramp up amid a nationwide panic following President Donald Trump’s so-called “liberation day” tariff announcement. “GREAT NEWS! The economy is starting to roar with a strong 228,000 jobs added in the month of March — well ahead of the market’s expectation,” Leavitt wrote on X, formerly Twitter, citing data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released Friday. Despite the anxieties surrounding the Trump administration’s deep cuts to the federal work force, approximately 228,000 nonfarm jobs were added in March, according to the survey. Unemployment rose slightly, from 4.1% to 4.2%, and the bureau noted that government employment declined. Leavitt attributed positive news in the labor market to Trump’s “push to onshore jobs,” but many manufacturing companies in the U.S. have laid off workers as a result of Trump’s economic policies, including steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs and automaker Stellantis, which owns Jeep, Citroën and Ram. She also mentioned “a sharp increase” in construction, but the BLS said there was “little change” in that industry.
White House Spokesliar Karoline Leavitt is huffing paint by suggesting that the economy is “starting to roar” despite the reality that the economy is in freefall due to Trump’s broad-scale tariff tax hike.

Effie Lee Morris stands as a towering figure in the realm of children's literature and library services, leaving an indelible mark through her visionary leadership and tireless advocacy. Born into an era marked by racial segregation and systemic barriers, Morris defied the odds, rising to become a beacon of change and progress. Her journey began as a public librarian in Cleveland and later in the Bronx, where she cultivated a deep appreciation for the transformative power of literature and education.
In 1971, Effie Lee Morris shattered barriers as the first African-American president of the Public Library Association, a milestone that underscored her commitment to equity and inclusion in library spaces. Her groundbreaking work extended beyond administrative roles; Morris played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of children's literature by spearheading the establishment of the Coretta Scott King Award. By crafting the original selection criteria in 1970, she laid the foundation for recognizing and celebrating African-American authors and illustrators, ensuring their voices resonated prominently in the literary world.
Morris's impact reverberated within the walls of the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL), where she assumed the role of the first coordinator of children's services. During her tenure, she revolutionized children's literature by establishing a research collection of out-of-print books, meticulously documenting the evolving portrayals of ethnic and culturally diverse groups. This collection, later renamed the Effie Lee Morris Historical and Research Collection in her honor, served as a testament to her unwavering dedication to preserving diverse narratives and fostering cultural understanding.
Beyond her professional achievements, Morris's advocacy extended into the realm of social justice and community engagement. She founded the San Francisco chapter of the Women's National Book Association and actively participated in the American Library Association's Social Responsibilities Round Table, championing causes aimed at combating racism, inequality, and poverty. Her contributions were met with widespread recognition, as evidenced by numerous accolades, including the Silver Spur Award and the Grolier Foundation Award, affirming her status as a trailblazer in the literary landscape.
Effie Lee Morris's legacy transcends generations, inspiring future leaders and storytellers to uphold the values of diversity, inclusion, and equity in children's literature and library services. Her visionary spirit lives on in the countless lives touched by her work, serving as a timeless reminder of the transformative power of literature in bridging cultures, fostering empathy, and igniting change.

How you look matters immensely to Trump, a former reality star himself who loves to talk of people who look like they were brought in from “central casting. Like his telegenic Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (brought in from Fox News), Noem fits the part, said Einav Rabinovitch-Fox, a history professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and the author of the book “Dressed For Freedom: The Fashionable Politics of American Feminism.”
According to the aforementioned WSJ report, Noem has a “made for TV” approach to the job, but it’s White House border czar Tom Homan and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller who are reportedly handling the logistical aspects of the president’s mass deportation efforts.
Noem’s recent appearances ― and her flurry of outfit changes to whatever action scene she’s dropped into ― all suggest she wasn’t chosen for this role because of her capabilities or policies, but because of the optics, Rabinovitch-Fox said.
“If her looks were different, there wouldn’t be a point of having her there, as according to the Trump logic, a man could have done the job better,” the professor said.
Putting yourself in a hypermasculine environment — prisons, wearing bulletproof vests in raids ― is one way to wrestle some power for yourself and score some points with the boss, Rabinovitch-Fox said.
“These looks communicate, ‘Even as women they can get the job done,’” she explained.
The casualness of the aesthetic ― Noem looks like a person working from home in athleisure, albeit with great hair ― may also help to indemnify the administration from blowback for the human rights abuses activists say occur in these prisons, Turner said. The blowback increased this week, as Trump was heard telling Salvadoran president Nayib Bukele that he’d like to send U.S.-born “homegrown” criminals to Salvadoran prisons, too, if he can figure out a way how. (It’s illegal to expatriate U.S. citizens to a foreign prison for a crime.)
Noem’s look is in solidarity with ICE rather than the suits around her.
“When we see videos of visa-holders getting abducted by ICE, many of the officers are dressed in plain clothes, often in athletic wear, and have very limited identifying government information ― just a hat or a jacket,” he explained.
She’s there with boots on the ground ― very shiny ones ― to show that she’s in the field with the “real” American people, Turner said.
“[Noem] is locking up the ‘fake’ or ‘illegal’ Americans, while the suits, representing the elites, stand back and watch,” Turner said. “It’s populist propaganda, to make the violence of this moment feel casual, everyday. It’s intentional.”

Steve interview - 1984 (link to the full thing at the end)
RS: Because you were brought in later on, did you ever feel like an outsider in the band?
SP: No, they did the best they could to always make me feel a part of the whole thing. They definitely had a camaraderie going on for years prior to my entrance. That still exists. I think there is a very tight allegiance between Neal and Herbie that will never go they are like brothers. That will always be there. We do all get along, it's a democracy, otherwise it doesn't work. Unless you're Sting and you're in the Police and it's not even fair to say that because I don't even know how important the other guys are to him. Obviously, it's very important soundwise as far as I'm concerned. The group is a democracy and it really has to work. There are five very strong individuals. Strong in their own right creatively and drivewise and that's what makes up what is one very strong Journey sound. Independently I believe that everybody is as strong as the Journey thing. But independently there's an infectious freedom of creativity that is easier for myself, for instance, to just go and do something or easier for Neal to hook up with somebody else. That's what a group is all about. For the most part it is definitely a workable situation.
RS: This album has more serious lyrics. Would you say that's a good way to sum it up?
SP: I think more honest, more American.
RS: Why do you call the album "more American"?
SP: Now that you've heard that term go back and listen to it again. But first, have a glass of wine, whatever else you like, maybe a cup of coffee, well, have a glass of wine or two or twelve and relax. It is an American album and I don't mean the current administration. I mean musically. America is the melting pot of not just nationalities and peoples and colours but it's a melting pot of music. This country is responsible for some of the strongest, most innovative drives musically, creatively and including the ones that are going on right now supposedly from another country as far as I'm concerned. In this country, people from Cleveland go over where the attention is and come back with maybe a different style of fashion and appearance, but they're from Cleveland! All of a sudden it's English. This country is very powerful as far as I'm concerned and something I have to call an American sound which is everything all at once. I really believe that and from that hodgepodge comes out some really incredible combinations and I think if you listen to this album you'll hear some of the original seeds and some combinations. It is an American sounding record.
RS: David Lee Roth once told me that the only difference between American and British bands is the haircuts and the shoes.
SP: I would have to agree with that 100%. I think he's absolutely right and I'd like to go on record right now. In spite of what David Lee Roth says about me, I think they're great. I like those guys.
RS: It does seem like he picks on you.
SP: Neal said something about him one time in a press review that, unfortunately, gave him a bad taste about the word "Journey". Great band, excellent live, excellent on record. I love the new record and I think they're great. I tried to get hold of Eddie to work on my album but they were busy doing this one and he never had a chance to get back to me or maybe he feels like David does! I don't know.

By Cheryl LaBash
In a welcome breakthrough on April 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration greenlighted the phase 3 study of Heberprot-P, a Cuban medicine developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) that has been shown to reduce diabetic amputation by more than 70 percent.
Why did it take so long? The failure of the U.S. to normalize relations with the Republic of Cuba has forced even urgent health initiatives like this one to thread its way through an insidious web of laws, regulations, and executive orders that only apply to Cuba.
