It'll never not bother me that the plot of Borderlands 3 hinges on a DLC they released three months before for Borderlands 2. I firmly believe that DLC should never impact the plot of your game. I don't care if it was free for a month they're charging money for it now, and if someone doesn't know how important that DLC is and plays the game they'll be so fucking confused. Either don't make your plot DLC dependent or give players the dlc for free when they buy the new game.

all of you mentioning the pre-sequel in the tags. we are all interconnected in the fungus
borderlands is so fun when you don't have a bitch whining in your ear about how much it sucks
#- entries ]#thankfully the hate's/dislike's died down but if pre-sequel had just as much love as the other mainline games it would've#been objectively the best game in the series. no contest#i still miss laser weapons. i miss the somberness of claptastic voyage and felicity's sacrifice and gladstone's unneeded death#the tp-s! vhs are my absolute favorites; hell my FAVORITE character is a tp-s! vh. i love the gameplay and how insane it could truly get#pickle - i just realized - was the og ava. haha. wish he'd come back in some way though.#and the cliffhanger with watcher? i wish it was realized. i wish it happened#AND THE CANCELLED DLC. i made that dlc my url because i loved it like it was my relative#it got cannibalized into commander lilith and the fight for sanctuary which is. nice. but luxy's space adventure would have been so much#cooler than hector. i guess he's fine but zombies on a space cruise in the borderlands universe had me going apeshit#i would have sold my soul for claptrap cosmetics from that dlc like i am obsessed

Holy shit i just remembered i never introduced tumblr to Betrayal au im gonna change that
So basically, in betrayal au, Maya doesn’t meet the raiders till much later. Before that happens, she also experiences way more betrayal trauma, assassination/murder attempts and overall discrimination than in canon. In fact, pretty much all she lived from interactions with other people ended up being negative, or at best, neutral, either on the short or long run.
So naturally, instead of being open to form new relationships, she starts to distance herself from others. (Cauz yk. Who would want to try to socialize again after over 27 years of perpetual negativity from people? You try keeping your cool after that) By the time she finally meets the raiders, things are different than in canon…
That was the short version. Long version is under the cut
(I shall post a part 2 on bl3 BAU cauz theres a few important things to say about her and if i cram it in here the post will just be. Interminable.)
When she gets on Pandora, instead of directly joining the raiders, Maya is instead approached by a different group of so called « vault hunters » who offer her to work together to open the vault.
As time passes and she gets to know her teammates, even though the betrayal from the order of the impending storm still deeply affects her emotionally, she learns to trust and care for those new friends.
(For reference, the impending storm plot twist™️ also happens earlier, so she also gets to pandora sooner)
Well surprise! Turns out this was a trap too! The « vh » team lured her into trusting them so they could get their hands on a siren, after all. Plan devised by a commander in Hyperion, fyi.
In an act of self defense, she had to kill the very people she thought she could trust. Once again, it wasn’t her who was welcomed with open arms in a family. This whole time, all they cared about were her powers.
Now, this had happened twice, and this time, she nearly died. A part of her did die that day.
Every time she trusted people, it was used against her.
And how about the strangers she had met so far, well, in her life? Either avoided her, visibly feared her or tried to kill her. At best, they just went on to live their day.
So, she started to believe that maybe she was doomed to be left behind every time she tried to follow others. To get hurt every time she showed vulnerability. To be hunted. Feared. Hated.
And can you blame her?
I mean, after all, when was the last time people genuinely cared about her?
…
Did that ever happen in the first place?
So, as Pandora just seems to keep proving her fears are justified, she learns to become distant.
After making the same mistake twice, she wasn’t going to let people deceive her again. Now she knew that if she wanted to reach her goal to learn about sirens, it wasn’t by entrusting others with her help.
At some point, the crimson raiders offer to team up. But she won’t let her guard down so easily now. She refuses. I mean, what’s stopping them to just take all the info they need from her hands once they don’t need her help anymore?
So, led by nothing but bits of info and a mysterious voice in her head (As much as she’s real hesitant to follow the advice of the so called « ai » talking to her somehow, she’s the best lead she’s got.), she leads a one woman hunt for the vault key.
But things don’t go exactly as planned (as always). The moment she’s finally close to get the thing, guess who shows up? That’s right! The crimson fucking raiders, and they want the key too!
Lilith confronts her. She gives her another chance to work together, but Maya just can’t take that kind of risk a third time. So, siren fight ensues, and things seem to be going well, until Lilith decides enough is enough and uses eridium. However, instead of killing the fellow siren, she knocks her out and gets her to sanctuary.
Held captive by the raiders (You can thank Lilith for that btw. Homegirl can’t get herself to kill a fellow siren just yet) a deal is eventually made (working with other people may be the last thing she’d do under normal circumstances, but she has no choice. They caught her.)
So against her own will, she learns to know the people she works with, thinking that after the key is acquired, she’s just get the info she needs and then fuck off. But once again. Didn’t go as planned. These guys are way more loveable than expected-
Goddamn it.
She has one hell of a crisis when she realizes that not only she’s feeling herself starting to care about those people, but that this odd feeling she has whenever she’s with the odd one who screams about meat might be romantic attraction. (And it is)
It takes time, but the raiders eventually prove to her that this time, it’s mutual. Things get better after that 💜
(She’s still more of a bastard than canon tho. All this time of the intimidating distant facade taught her how nice it feels to be a lil mean. As a treat)
Another noticeable trait is the massive scar she has on her face. It was inflicted by one of the members of the fake vh team the day of the betrayal (it still brings a load of bad memories and she hates it) I shall post how the scar looks pretty soon.
(Other note, i would like to thank @rando-lesbo210 because her Fallen Heirs au is what inspired the creation of Betrayal au)
#basically what you need to remember is:#1- Maya is grumpy and distant due to emotional dmg#2- The raiders find her and go wow what a pathetic stray cat on a woman and just catch her#3- Distinct Psyren dynamic that i love just as much as canon Psyren#4- Maya and Lilith dynamic that basically just#this bitch is annoying/edgy#but the moment someone else goes yeah you’re right she’s such a bitch-#done for. killed. Only i can say this about her#Also Maya finds and adopts Angel#theres two sub aus depending on Angel’s psyche#one where it’s basically just me friends Fallen Angel#one where Angel is super sweet and Maya goes this kid is way to sweet i cant not adopt her#feel free to ask if ya wanna know more cauz i feel like im just cloggin up my tags here#borderlands#maya the siren#borderlands au#au: betrayal au#au: BAU#my post

BORDERLANDS CHARACTER OF THE DAY #4!!!!!!
Today's Borderlands chatarcter is *drumroll*
CLAPTRAP!!
That's right, today's character is the robot himself, Claptrap! This little robot is the first character you meet in each Borderlands game, making him the obvious choice for best NPC. His jokes are pretty funny, and his design is, while simple, really good! He can give you side quests, and in Borderlands 2, even give you high-fives!
OTHER VERSIONS OF CLAPTRAP:
Claptrap can be found in the Tiny Tinas Assault on Dragons Keep DLC as a wizard:
He also shows up in the Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt DLC as himself:
And he's in the Commander Lilith's Fight For Sanctuary DLC
In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, not only can you play as him, you also can go INSIDE him during the Claptastic Voyage DLC

And finally, in Borderlands 3, During the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC, he is sent off to find a thought to be fake item which was made up by Gaige, but he returns with said item, believing he had saved the wedding.
FINAL NOTES!!!!!
If you know any obscure characters, or just want to suggest someone for Borderlands Character of the Day, then feel free to use the AMA thingy on my blog to do so!

Something I've been wanting to draw for a long time: title cards for Skies if she appeared in the games. From top to bottom, Borderlands 2, Tales From the Borderlands, Commander Lilith DLC, and Borderlands 3. If you're interested in when her cards would appear in game, check out under the cut!
Borderlands 2: Skies is a boss fight, the third to final boss before Jack and the Warrior. When the player enters the Vault, Skies is waiting for them at the start of the tunnel and says ‘Sup.’ *Title card*.
Tales From the Borderlands: When Rhys and Vaughn get separated from Sasha and Fiona during the moonshots from Helios, and they’re waiting in the desert for Yvette to send them a car, they get attacked by a pair of skags. But thankfully, a mysterious one-armed person sweeps in and saves them, killing the skags. Turns out this person is a female Psycho, or at least that’s what she looks like. But when she takes off her mask, Jack recognizes her as Skies, and Rhys exclaims, “Skies the Bodyguard?” To which Skies replies, “Ex-bodyguard.” *Title card*.
Commander Lilith DLC: After Sanctuary has been taken by Colonel Hector, and Mordecai has been poisoned by Hector’s gas, the Crimson Raiders are in The Backburner, discussing their next moves when Skies walks in. She sees Mordecai, sick and unconscious on a couch and says, “bummer.” *Title card*.
Borderlands 3: When the player is helping Zer0 fight Maliwan soldiers to get to a weapons depot, a smaller ship flies in, taking out the Maliwan drop ships with ease. A woman jumps out of the small ship and swiftly takes out the surrounding soldiers with her assault rifle. A Pyrotech Heavy tries to attack her, but she dodges his flamethrower and smashes her bladed fist through his helmet and right into his face. Blood sprays out around her as she smirks wildly. *Title card*.

Well I've woken up to quite the reception and I don't know how many of you saw the first bits of the au but here's more
Tma x Malevolent
+demon Oscar
Dennis "The Butcher" Collins has been "assigned" more, so a permanent arrangement to be bound to Oscar
Oscar can command him, but most of the time, he just has him help around their sanctuary.
Dennis will never admit it but he has a soft spot for Martin, and is the one to teach the boy to properly fight and use weapons.
Dennis also helps out when killing is necessary against any creature that tries to attack or on missions to stop cults.
......
Kayne dropping off Arthur only gave him a brief description of what he needed to do in the modern era.
"Stop future apocalypse, find out what these fear entities are, and don't die."
The old ones, the elder gods like KiY or Kayne, aren't aware of supernatural besides their realms because they have no sway over them, so why bother to learn or understand.
Martin looked unassuming, so Kayne just threw Arthur on him and went, "lol good luck"
Arthur, of course, is in rough shape, clothes not from this century, bloody, beaten, and barely lucid to understand what is going on.
John manifests to try to scare off Martin from dragging Arthur to the hospital.
Martin tilts his head staring at the ethereal form of John. "Are you hurting him?"
John sputters clearly out of his depth. "How dare you!"
"No hospitals, but I'm still going to take him to get help." Martin picking up Arthur.
"We don't need more questions!"
"And where I'm taking you, we won't report you to any police." Martin sighs. "You don't need to shout either. I'm taking you to the sanctuary. Well, it's a church, but not really."
"You're being too nice."
"I know what it's like to be hurt. Why would I want to make others suffer as I did?" Martin frowns as the form is silent. "What I mean to say is that everyone deserves another chance to be better."
"You are odd for a human."
"Never said I was human."
......
Tim's already at the sanctuary talking to Oscar about what Martin's up too he's a newly turned werewolf of six months so far, and Martin helped him get connections and help him during the full moons.
Dennis is the one to intercept Martin. "Boyo, what's with the half dead man in your arms?"
John is horrified. "The butcher." He uses his ethereal form to obscure Arthur from being recognized.
Dennis chuckles. "A bit young to know who I am."
"Was." Martin corrects.
Dennis huffs. "I suppose, but you didn't answer me."
"They didn't want hospitals, and obviously, they aren't human." Martin frowns. "Lilith is in, and I know she can help."
"You're too kind for the hatred that raised you." Dennis motions for him to follow. "I heard you're supposed to be following up on a case."
"They were kind of dropped on me on the way." Martin sighs following.
"Well, your friend is already here, the pup." Dennis opens a side door and shouts and a small woman rushes in grabbing Arthur and John despite protests.
........
"Aren't you supposed to be following up on the Vittery case?" Tim crossed his arms, trying his best to mimic Oscar's disappointment, then freezes seeing the blood. "What the fuck man?"
Oscar rushed forward, looking around Martin, and is stopped by Dennis.
"It's not the boys' blood." Dennis grabs Oscar's arm and pulls him away.
"That doesn't make it better!" Oscar frowns.
"Dad, I'm fine. Some guy who floated around dropped an injured guy on my way to investigate, but I wasn't going to leave the guy to bleed out." Martin sighs. "There's two in that body, so I didn't think a normal hospital would be wise."
Tim nods. "Yeah, I wouldn't want to wake up in a vets office after a full moon."
Oscar sighs. "Ok, I'll check on Lilith and how that is going. Martin, stay here. You can pick up the investigation with Dennis later."
Dennis crosses his arms. "He doesn't need a babysitter."
"This proves otherwise" Oscar waves him off.
"To be fair, he does make a good point." Tim shrugs.
"Shut up, pup." Dennis sighs heavily.
Martin smiles softly. "You don't want to help me?"
Dennis narrows his gaze. "Never said that."
.......
Oscar followed the sound of shouting, mostly from Lilith telling both voices to stop arguing. He enters cautiously. "Lilith are they alright?"
"Ah, Oscar, it's lovely to see you." Lilith is standing over a man lying in the bed awake and an ethereal figure connected to the man's shadow. "He's all bandaged up, and I fixed him the best I could considering the circumstances and tried to explain to his friend that his influence is changing the body of his so-called landlord. Ah, the ethereal fella kept calling Collins the Butcher, which, as you know what that means."
Oscar sighs. "Right right, can I speak to them, or do they need more rest?"
"They aren't demonic nor angelic or anything. I'm used to not trying to kill us like mindless drones, so he falls under yours and Noel's category. John's a bit protective over Arthur, so just be cautious."
Oscar smiles. "Thank you, Lilith." He waves as she leaves. "It's nice to meet you both, and I apologize. Lilith can get very controlling, but it's only because she's been a healer for a long time."
John's voice was slightly awed. "Oscar?"
"That I am." Oscar hums. "Could you move so I can see the man you're attached to? I would like to speak to both of you."
"You should be dead." John doesn't move.
"And how would you figure that?" Oscar raised a brow stepping forward. To see the man lying down in bed, who never looked directly at him.
"You should be missing that arm as well." John sinks back into Arthur seeing Oscar's eyes flash a black as he stiffens.
"Who are you?" Oscar relaxes himself, holding his right arm.
"Arthur Lester." Arthur pushed himself up to sit, finally able to move again.
Oscar stared stunned. "Arthur?" He tilts his head and sighs. "So this is where you vanished to? Don't worry, Noel told me about John and what he is. My it has been ages." He pulls up a chair and sits. "I hope it wasn't too awful getting here."

What do you think is the best order to play the borderlands games in for someone who knows jack shit about it but has 1,2,3 and the pre sequel?
Borderlands 1 (and all dlc)
Borderlands 2
BL2 DLC except for Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary
The Pre-Sequel (and all dlc)
Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary
Borderlands 3 (and all dlc)
Chronologically, TPS takes place in-between 1 and 2, but it will give you some very bad ideas about things if you play it this way. It was released after that, and the story pretty much assumes you have played BL2 before it.

(So since so many of you have been unbelievably kind to me about my Obey Me/Diavolo x MC lore, and I was hyped about sharing it anyways, here is some more.)

In the heart of the Devildom, a prophecy unfolds as the Exalt, beloved of Diavolo, steps into destiny's path. Chosen to command the Prince's Knights, they confront an ancient and elusive adversary threatening to plunge their world into chaos. With Barbatos and Solomon by their side, an unlikely alliance forged in the crucible of danger, the Astrals rise to defend the Devildom—and protect Diavolo himself—from unimaginable peril. Empowered by arcane forces long dormant, the Exalt and their loyal band of knights wage a courageous battle against foes unseen for eons.
As ancient powers clash and destinies intertwine, the Exalt leads the charge, their courage and love igniting a heroic saga that will determine the fate of the Devildom. In their thrilling adventures, they must confront not only external threats but also the shadows within, forging a path that defies the odds and secures their place in legend.
Instead of having all of the MCs related to Lilith, I’ve had them all secretly blessed by Lilith’s spirit. Allow me to explain.
Even though a certain arrangement between Lucifer and Diavolo had her begin a new life, a part of her spirit remained behind. Out of undying love for her family, she sealed a part of her spirit inside of a celestial jewel. Tasked with awakening special guardians in the event of unspeakable peril, the jewel was laid to rest in a sanctuary she knew wouldn’t be disturbed. Lilith wanted to make absolutely sure her brothers would be protected, in the event she would no longer be able to protect them herself.
Even though the Exalt is intimately linked with Diavolo, Lilith extends her blessing to the Exalt as well. Because all of the Astrals forge close, unbreakable bonds with her brothers. In a role similar to Queen Serenity’s role, Lilith’s spirit guides the Exalt and Astrals throughout their adventures.
Does anyone recognize the spirit as Lilith? No. Except for Barbatos but he knows everything anyways. Lilith doesn’t reveal herself to anyone, let alone her brothers, because she doesn’t want to reawaken old wounds. She doesn’t want anyone, especially Lucifer, to mourn the way things happened.
(In other words, I have a team of MCs that transform into celestial soldiers because I’m a Sailor Moon nerd. So they pretty much transform and fight like this. Male MCs included.)

// Character Study Drabble: The Meeting
“MY DECREE IS LAW. YOU BEING MY SPAWN DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM IT.”
The other nephalem sheltered behind him, basking - trembling - in awe at the angel that had invaded their sanctum. The light of Inarius’s wings was blinding in the dark of the underground temple, and it seemed that Linarian was the only one who could handle his intensity. He could not blame his students, however. They were younger and had not blossomed to their potential, and Inarius was an overwhelming being to behold.
His father’s intentions were hard to sense, but he felt rage; a rage unlike any he had empathized from the angel prior. And he had felt so much of the negativity Inarius had bottled over the years. This was… new.
Lilith’s betrayal had cut what remained of his father's heart deep.
“Father, I am but a humble scholar. I-” “SILENCE.”
He would obey. For now.
Bowing his head in a show of respect, Linarian’s eyes would glance behind him, his fingers wrapped around the youngest of his student’s - a raven-haired male no more than a decade of winter’s age - to assure him of something. Anything. He could not confess, nor show, that this had unsettled him deeply as well, and to say that it would be okay was a lie he was not willing to give.
“THIS ORDER OF YOURS SHALL DISBAND IMMEDIATELY.” bellowed Inarius, his hand gesturing over the small band of students, “YOUR FOUL MAGICS ARE A RISK TO THIS WORLD.”
“A risk?” Linarian sputtered, “I-I am a healer! How is any of thi-” “I COMMANDED SILENCE AND OBEDIENCE , WHELP.”
And silent he would be once more.
News from the surface found its way underground quite swiftly, and the recent happenings after the death of the ancestors was no exception. Inarius had already spilled the blood of the First that had defied him, and should he speak out of line, he could likely be next. It was surprising that he was not the first, however. The angel held no love for him despite having helped birth him, and he could sense no love nor hesitation even now. Linarian’s stomach churned with anxiety about the angel for the first time in many circles of the moon.
“It shall be as you wish, father.” he would lie hushed. Normally, he would protest, but not at the risk of the others. This was not their typical disagreeance over the matters of Sanctuary, this was something far more dire, and he could and would only press once they were alone.
All he could do was turn to offer his followers a reassuring smile, a gentle nod. The eldest of the group would know his intention - they had spoken of potential emergencies prior - and the rest would come to know and find where to gather away from prying eyes. All that mattered was allowing them to escape, even if Inarius seemed to have no wanting for them.
The sound of metal striking stone reverberated through the sanctum as Inarius stepped forwards instead of simply flying, stopping to stand beside Linarian without expression. The holy one’s cloaked face, devoid of anything as with all angels, would glance down upon the child that clung to Linarian’s side, and he would let out an echo of a sigh — long and exasperated.
“IS THIS ONE OF YOUR BLOOD?”
A terrifying question. The child shook, and Linarian could do nothing more than hold his hand to comfort quietly. Even a mere question intimidated himself at such an age.
“No. He is not. None of my children are here. Nor my partners. I am the only one of my family here.”
“GOOD. THE RABBLE MAY LEAVE. I WISH TO SPEAK TO MY SON, ALONE.”
The communal tide of relief was euphoric.
But the sensation of goodbye? He could feel it from some of the others as their eyes met his, some with tears welling. He did not know that as he bowed his head, his too were dampened with confusion and fear. For goodbyes were not supposed to be hard for their kind, and yet, this one felt as if it could be more than so. It was so very hard to tell.
He would fight with words to ensure it wasn’t.
Ushering the child towards one of his most trusted, he would watch as they scattered. Some went the direction of the surface, and others would make their way deeper into the caverns under the temples. It did not matter where so long as it was not here. They would find their way, and so long as they obeyed his father, he would not come to harm them. Inarius, much as his mother, enjoyed their worship, at the least, and would bask in it for as long as possible.
It was once the scurried footsteps ceased that Inarius would speak once more, prompting Linarian’s mournful state to melt to a blank slate of sheer apathy, mentally preparing himself for an exchange he knew would be far more pressing than their former ones.
“THE WORLD IS MINE AND MINE ALONE NOW,” the angel would begin, his arms and wings outstretched in celebration, “AND THAT MEANS IT’S FUTURE AND YOU AND YOUR OFFSPRING’S SURVIVAL HAS COME TO MY DECISION,”
A horrific statement, but Linarian would listen without any acknowledgement.
“YOUR STUDY. I HAD PAID ATTENTION, CHILD. YOU ARE OF THE WORLD, AND THUS, THE WORLD STONE AFFECTS YOU JUST AS IT AFFECTS THE WORLD.” What had he done? There was no possible way to mask his curiosity — a brow cantered, and his head would nod just once. He had discovered that, yes. They were dirt, as Inarius had so called them several times; molded from the very clay of Sanctuary itself. It was the most basic of observations, and one of his first dealing with matters of their deaths.
“IF YOUR KIN ARE TO THRIVE IN MY WORLD, THEY SHALL NOT HOLD POWER THAT WOULD ATTRACT EYES FROM HELL NOR HEAVEN. AND THUS, I HAVE ENSURED IT TO BE SO. YOUR KIND HAS BEEN SPARED BY MY BLESSING.”
“...what… did you do?” Linarian questioned with a rasping hiss, his heart pounding with a swelling anger that rivaled the angel’s own from just moment’s prior.
“YOU DO NOT PAY ATTENTION. THE WORLD STONE. I HAVE USED IT. ARE YOU TOO DENSE TO HAVE NOT NOTICED HOW THE POWERS OF THE OTHERS HAVE CHANGED? ALL BUT YOU AND YOUR SIBLINGS."
He had noticed. And he had noticed the deaths of some his siblings as well. He had felt the sting continually through the week before the news had been relayed to him from above, but the reason had not reached him until not long before his father’s arrival. Death happened, and he mourned each time he had felt it over the years when he could not visit, but it was clear Inarius was to fault. The betrayal was not unexpected, but he could not show the pain outwardly, and suppressed it even now for his own welfare.
“Yes, father. But, what good is stripping us of our power for? That is our birthright, and all we have built is-”
“YOUR. SAFETY.”
“I do not understand. Is this about your fear of being discovered? Again, what good would having us be weak do? Are we not to defend ourselves? What is there t-” “YOU DO NOT LISTEN WELL, AS USUAL. YOU ARE ALL ABOMINATIONS. IF YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN BEASTS, YOU WILL NOT IRK THE IRE OF-”
“Who? Yourself? Are you to say that all of your kind, and all of mother’s, would find us as revolting? If we are even to be found?”
The searing heat of Inarius’s golden wing wrapped around his torso, lifting him from the ground as if he were nothing more than a doll. He could easily tear through the tendril and free himself - his strength had not diminished in the slightest - but he did not. He chose not to. There was no sense, at this time, in struggling. The nephalem’s anxiety still stirred within him, but he would not show it still, he could not.
“IF. IF YOU ARE TO BE FOUND, YOU ARE TO SURVIVE. THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. THAT IS WHAT YOUR DAMNED MOTHER WANTED, AND DESPITE HER BETRAYAL, I WILL HONOR HER LAST WISH AS IT IS ONE AND MINE THE SAME.”
The grip tightened. And it was a grasp far more intense than any he had been held in prior during the angel’s bouts. The crack of rib would make Linarian wince in pain and bleed from the mouth, enough to signal for the angel to drop him to his knees. There was no aura of regret for the seemingly accidental exertion; Linarian would heal, and he did as he always had. It only took seconds for him to regain his breath, and for the bone to mend under flesh. It only took a moment longer for him to resume his argument after spitting aside the blood, trying not to distract himself with the taste of it lingering.
“I understand that-” “GOOD.” “But what of my kind? What of me? Am I not to aid my kin? And of my studies, I am so close to breakthroughs! To understanding how our souls work!” “NOT WITH YOUR POWERS. TEND TO YOUR POISONS AND MEDICINES IF YOU WILL. WATCH YOUR DEAD ROT. I CARE NOT. YOU WILL DO NOTHING THAT INDICATES THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER YOU DO. I WILL NOT ASK AGAIN.”
“Bu-”
It seemed that Inarius would not debate him this time, even for entertainment and the chance of lecturing him as was in years past. Two wings would unfurl this time, one wrapping around his neck and the other his ribs again, and a sword of light would be summoned to his hand with an instantaneous flash and hum. It pointed at him, unwavering. And as the tendril seared exposed flesh, Linarian felt death approaching him, his eyes settled on his father’s blade with a dread that he had only felt through other’s before in their final moments.
Inarius fully intended to kill should he not submit. But kill him he had not. The angel kept his son in the torturous state for seconds that felt like minutes, tossing Linarian this time to the cold ground with monstrous force. It was a warning, and one that he was now listening to closely.
The nephalem felt himself grow limp; he was left paralyzed in a pool of his own blood, even if only temporarily. His thoughts grew quiet. Nobody, not even he, could continue under the duress of such pain.
“I WILL DO UNTO YOU AS I HAVE DONE THE OTHERS THAT HAVE DEFIED ME. DO NOT CONTINUE TO BE A DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME, CHILD.”
And with that, it seemed Inarius was done. The sword would disappear from whence it came, and the angel would turn his back, taking one glance back upon his child, who in turn, could barely manage to make out his father’s actions under the haze of blurring vision. Linarian would attempt to reach forwards without thought, but could not muster more than a twitch as the angel’s wings outstretched once more, propelling him forwards to leave the temple, and his son, in complete and utter silence. The debate was over as quickly as it had attempted to be began.
The first thing, other than pain as his senses began to spur once more, the nephalem could feel was more death from the far distances of their world. Inarius had gone to speak to the others.
And arguments were ensuing, and ending swiftly. One after another. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Actually I'm going to put this in a reblog instead of a reply.
My recommended order:
1. Borderlands 2 main story
2. Optional: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep (BL2 DLC)
3. Optional: The Pre-sequel main story
4. Tales From the Borderlands
5. Optional: Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary (BL2 DLC)
All other DLC can be played whenever or skipped, they have no real impact on the main story line.
Tiny Tina's Assault isn't important to understand the rest, but it's a lot of fun (imo) and it does some really heartfelt storytelling regarding the aftermath of the main story.
The pre-sequel is mainly interesting if you want more context around the background behind the conflict in BL2 and want to know more about Handsome Jack. I think it is very good, but it can be skipped especially if you have limited time available for gaming.
Tales from the Borderlands is excellent but you need at minimum the context from playing the main story of BL2 to really appreciate it, and I think it's somewhat better if you have played the pre-sequel.
Commander Lilith picks up after the events of Tales from the Borderlands and serves as some wrap up of the consequences of that story.
"Wait, everything but the Borderlands 2 main story and Tales is optional?"
Yes. Yes it is.
Hey, i'm kind of a newbie to the fandom, what borderlands game should I play first?
I'd say it doesn't really matter that much? But Borderlands 2 is generally considered the best one, I guess, and all the later entries rely heavily on you having played it, so it's probably the best starting point.
