Kendall's coping by throwing around his authority and trying to summon "better doctors" like that will solve the problem. Shiv getting mad at the people focusing on the business end, then trying to game the system and hide Logan's status. Kendall being the sibling that knows they have to focus on the business end. Connor marrying Willa like him calling her to the hospital to the disgust of the family. The close associate (Frank and now Gerri) fired but only in words for the sake of Roman. The attack up in the private jet just like up in the helicopter.

All this time later and they're still the exact same fucking family they've always been.

i'm truly so fucking impressed by this show. they killed off the undeniable villain, capitalism turned flesh, a genuinely unloveable mean old man who's poisoned the world... and they made it the most devastating thing i've ever seen. and they didn't do it by cultivating an ounce of last-minute sympathy or any bullshit like that. they didn't show the final moment happen, we didn't get build-up, we didn't get his perspective, we barely even saw the body. they just showed us what the most potent sadness of a death actually is: the loss and grief from the people who loved them. and by god against all logic (because love is not logical, it is a force for better or worse) do his kids fucking love him.

i honestly can't decide which of the three sibling performances were my favorite. all of them were perfectly devastating. shiv's visible turmoil, roman's frustrated disbelief, kendall already trying to bear the weight of it all.

shiv and roman instantly forgiving their father while kendall and connor dont is such a good reflection of their relationship. roman always wanted his fathers attention and wouldve done anything for it. logan loved shiv as a daughter but belittled her as a successor so even tho he fucked them over at the very end she was able to separate logan the father from logan the businessman

connor realised his father never even intended on coming for his wedding while he went out of his way to go to shivs. he never gave a fuck about him. so neither did connor

and kendall. the heir. logan the businessman and logan the father were one and the same. he never treated kendall as anything but a successor -- a lousy one at that. a sharp contrast to shiv, whom logan considered his other major option of the other 3. kendall loved him. but he couldnt forgive him

the voyeuristic shots making you feel as lost as the siblings trying to know what’s going on, the closeups on their faces when they have nothing to say, the thrill of not actually believing that logan is dead because he always has some fucked up trick to manipulate his children. kendall telling his (now dead) dad that he can’t forgive him, roman in denial because logan is a fucking monster that survives everything, shiv feeling like she lost a chance to talk to him when in reality she could’ve been the first to know, connor realizing that the person who tortured and neglected him for years is now dead and trying to steal his moment since he didn’t even show up to his wedding.

all that in the third episode of the last season.

connor continuing to get married the day his father died and not let a man who was so cruel to him in life make what should be the happiest day even more forlorn. he doesn't need love but he can let happiness reign. he doesn't need love but willa, one way or another, does love him in a way that will sustain his life much more than the mal-love of his father that shaped his life.

me onstage at the emmys/golden globes/sag awards/oscars/tony's/grammys making sure that jeremy strong, sarah snook, kieran culkin, alan ruck, j smith cameron and matthew macfadyen all win every category for their performance in episode 3 of succession season 4: connor's wedding

also driving me nuts is the fact that despite the minimal presence of greg in this episode, this marked such a turning point for tomgreg. i don't think tom has EVER been so vulnerable with greg onscreen without proceeding to do something insane to counteract it. and even if logan hadn't died there would still be the matter of greg very clearly wanting to be with tom instead of at connor's wedding, and him being clearly jealous of tom's other "gregs"....

it makes more and more sense to me by the minute that this should be the season of Logan Is Dead, What Now? because when tom is no longer protected, greg isn't either, so the bond between them is put to the test. and fuck, the very first thing that tom does is be frank and honest and emotional with him. he tells greg that he's scared. he's upfront that his Protector is gone. he doesn't hesitate to give greg the information that, if he would choose to leave, would make him do it immediately.

ntm basically 2 scenes later, with a relationship that pretty overtly already parallels tom and greg anyway... we've got connor asking willa if she's only with him for the money. he seems to fully expect that it's the case. and she tells him that while it's a bonus, she is happy, and in front of about 10 people tops she still marries him. and i think that's the fucking thesis here.

By far my favorite character in Connor's wedding is none other than Connor. The drop of his eyes when he realizes that, as the oldest son, his father was never proud of him, and didn't even get to witness his wedding. The desperation with which he runs away to hide in a room on the boat, the internal battle of having to grieve on your happiest day. But I loved it so much when he sat down and talked to Willa. She offered support, reassurance, and honesty; she took his mind off the grief and decided to pull something beautiful out of sadness. Out of all the siblings he is the only one who has a support system outside of his family, a support system that isn't directly affected by family grief, someone to turn to that can soothe his pain without being clouded by that pain themselves. There is also a lot to be said about him being older and able to confront death and loss much better compared to his siblings. Him giggling on the bed with Willa made me notice that, and seeing them hug at the ceremony made me realize he really broke the family curse. He did not let the soullessness of the Roy brand suck the life, hope, and love out of him. I used to be skeptical of his relationship with Willa, because it looks sketchy from the outside (like Roman always comments on how love is dead when he sees them together), but up close I think it's a relationship that works because both of them are willing to work with it, for their own reasons.
