Estimize Community Weighs in on Housing and Price Indicators
Core CPI and CPI
The Consumer Price Index is set to report on June 14, as well as the Core Consumer Price Index. The Estimize community is predicting an increase of 0.2% for CPI and 0.18% for the Core CPI. While the Estimize community has been fairly consistent with their predictions, both the Core CPI and CPI have proven to be volatile.
Looking at the unadjusted 12-month values for CPI, food has increased by 0.5%. More specifically, the index for fresh vegetables has increased by 5.1% which is the largest increase since February 2011. Overall, the food at home index fell by 0.8% while the food away from home index rose by 2.3%. Energy, which includes gasoline, fuel oil, electricity, and piped gas has increased by 9.3%. Shelter has increased by 3.5%.

Housing Starts
Housing Starts is set to report on June 16, the Estimize community has been historically accurate in forecasting trends, however the degree of the growth or decline has proven to be volatile. For May, the Estimize consensus comes in at 1,237K which would be a positive break in the two month downtrend. Last month there was drop in all three indicators associated with housing construction; housing starts, permits, and completions. However, many economists are hopeful for the future, due to the strengthening job market and warmer weather which could enable new projects.
