Crochet corner
I'm back with my yarn babbling again, this time because I want to distract myself from thesis writing OTL
My current scarf project is still ongoing and I left it at home so I can't show any progress pictures since I'm in my dorm again (and I forgot to take some when I was still at my parents place), so I will talk about my past projects.
And when I say past, I mean past, as in I will go back to my crochet roots. You're getting my fiber artist history hot off the keyboard folks, so strap in and enjoy the ride.
Back to the beginnings
My crochet journey started way back in primary school, where tiny baby Lix made a small square creature in craft class. Basically we crocheted a square (easily done with single crochets, can be achieved by tiny people) folded it in half, sewed together the edges, stuffed it with cotton fluff stuff and sewed it shut. Put on some eyes, a nose and mouth plus fake fur as hair and hurray you made a square creature! I actually kept that thing for years, it was chilling on our radiator like a wonky guardian until it eventually got lost or thrown out (I can't remember which). I remember that the stitches were surpisingly neat for my age, which past Lix apparently couldn't replicate for years. Primary school me had talent... (unfortunately I don't have a picture of the wonky square creature or I would have showed you guys)
Deco for the win
While I did try once or twice to get back into crocheting again it never really worked out until! My mum found this website: Drops-Design. A German (?) website for knitting and crochet patterns (and lots of other stuff). She showed me some cute cupcake and coffe cup coasters and asked if I could make them. Past Lix - like current Lix - was filled with false confidence and answered with: "Yeah, sure I can try." So, my mum ordered the yarn over the website and my crochet adventures started from anew.
Fortunately for my sanity the patterns my mum asked for had video tutorials attached, otherwise I would have been utterly fucked, since I have never read a crochet pattern in my life. With the help of the video, the coasters were relatively easy to make even when I was confronted with unknown stitches and multiple colour changes. The end result didn't look nearly as nice as what the website showed but for my first few tries I was satisfied.
Once again I have no pictures available but if you want to take a look at the pattern it's here. There you can also see the finished product.
From this point onwards I started going nuts with making deco shit. All differnt kind of flowers, stars, snowflakes and bunnies. That site opened the crochet door for me and I was happy as a clam.
Granny square madness
However, times were changing once again, when my dear friend got me some yarn for Christmas.
200 g of yarn.
With colour transition.
I only ever used solid coloured yarn before and was at a loss of what to do with this gift.
And what else to do when lost in the yarn world, then look at youtube for help. Spoiler: Youtube helped tremendously as it introduced me to the glorious invention that is granny squares.
Granny squares are fun shit, they come in all kinds of different patterns and colours and you can make lots of things with them. I watched a simple tutorial on youtube and got hooked. I used my friends gift to make granny squares only to be confronted with another dilemma: What to do with those granny squares? I got max 20 squares out of these 200 g and let me tell you my dudes, that's nothing for a bigger project.
So I simply went absolutely batshit crazy, for I decided to make a patchwork granny square blanket.
Please let me remind you people that before this lapse of judgement I only worked on small projects aka things that I made in one day tops.
Once again I follow my motto: Go big or go home and ohhh boy did I go big. I went gigantic and here is proof:
Tumblr media
That badboy is the definition of patchwork because it's made up out of FOUR different types of yarn, since I have run out of yarn SO MANY TIMES IT WAS RIDICULOUS! I needed to rebuy yarn at least five times, I was going insane. This project took me over half a year if not longer and weaving in the ends- *shudders* horrible, dreadful, hated every minute of it.
But I like the finished product, it's now chilling on my coach at my parents place, not really used all that often but still pretty.
I didn't stop with the granny squares after that clusterfuck though. Nooooooo sire~ I made a shitton of other granny square projects since I like to suffer (none of them as big as my blanket however, thank the outer gods).
Well, I certainly rambled enough for one post, I will be back with other projects in the future!
Toodles~

Jacket Harmony: Finding Your Boho Chic Vibe
In the ever-evolving landscape of Craft Bazaar fashion, one style that has endured and captured the hearts of many is the bohemian chic aesthetic. Characterized by its free-spiritedness, eclectic patterns, and effortless elegance, boho chic is more than just a trend; it's a lifestyle. At the heart of this style lies the beloved boho jacket – a versatile piece that adds a touch of whimsy and personality to any outfit. In this blog post, we'll explore the essence of jacket harmony within the realm of boho chic, offering insights and tips on how to curate your own bohemian-inspired wardrobe.
Embracing Boho Chic: A Journey of Self-Expression
Boho chic fashion is all about self-expression and individuality. It's about embracing your unique style and infusing it with elements of nature, culture, and artistry. At its core, boho chic celebrates diversity and authenticity, encouraging individuals to mix and match pieces that resonate with their personal aesthetic.
The Role of the Boho Jacket
Central to the boho chic wardrobe is the bohemian jacket. Whether it's a vintage denim jacket adorned with intricate embroidery, a flowy kimono with floral motifs, or a suede fringe jacket reminiscent of 1970s counterculture, the boho jacket serves as a statement piece that ties the entire look together. It adds texture, color, and dimension to even the simplest of outfits, effortlessly elevating your style quotient.
Finding Your Jacket Harmony
Discovering your perfect boho jacket is akin to finding a soulmate – it's about harmony, connection, and resonance. Here are some tips to help you navigate the vast array of options and find the jacket that speaks to your bohemian spirit:
1. Embrace Eclectic Patterns
Boho chic is synonymous with eclectic patterns inspired by various cultures and traditions. When choosing a boho jacket, don't be afraid to opt for bold prints, intricate embroideries, or tribal motifs. Let your jacket be a canvas that tells a story – whether it's a vibrant patchwork design or a subtle paisley print, embrace the richness of pattern play.
2. Experiment with Textures
Texture is key to achieving that bohemian allure. Look for jackets crafted from natural materials like cotton, linen, suede, or leather. Consider embellishments such as fringe, tassels, or crochet detailing for added tactile appeal. Mixing and matching different textures can create visual interest and depth, adding dimension to your overall look.
3. Play with Proportions
Boho chic is characterized by its relaxed, laid-back vibe. When styling your boho jacket, play with proportions to achieve a balanced silhouette. Pair a voluminous kimono with fitted jeans, or layer a cropped jacket over a flowy maxi dress for contrast. The key is to experiment and find combinations that complement your body shape while exuding effortless chic.
4. Embrace Vintage Finds
Vintage shopping is a treasure trove for boho enthusiasts. Explore thrift stores, flea markets, and online vintage shops to uncover unique, one-of-a-kind jackets with history and character. Vintage pieces not only add a touch of nostalgia to your wardrobe but also contribute to sustainable fashion practices by giving new life to pre-loved garments.
5. Personalize with Accessories
Complete your boho chic look by accessorizing your jacket with eclectic jewelry, scarves, hats, and belts. Layer on statement necklaces, stack bohemian bangles, or drape a colorful scarf around your neck for added flair. Accessories are the finishing touches that tie your ensemble together, adding personality and charm to your overall look.
Conclusion: Embracing Boho Chic through Jacket Harmony
In a world where fashion trends come and go, boho chic remains a timeless expression of individuality, creativity, and freedom. By embracing the art of jacket harmony, you can curate a wardrobe that reflects your unique personality and celebrates the beauty of diversity. Whether you're drawn to vintage-inspired denim jackets, flowy kimonos, or suede fringe vests, let your boho jacket be a symbol of self-expression and sartorial adventure. With the right combination of patterns, textures, and accessories, you can effortlessly channel the laid-back elegance of bohemian style and embrace your inner free spirit. So, go ahead – explore, experiment, and find your perfect jacket harmony amidst the vibrant tapestry of boho chic fashion.

i make a lot of stuffies and doll clothes from old fabrics, and this one is the latest! His name is patchwork and he is primarily made from an old scarf, although there are bits from a real old Halloween costume in there too. Thought you might like it. :)
[Image ID: a stuffed toy with black eyes, a body made of red fabric with a white flower print, and limbs and a head made of blue fabric.]
Patchwork is really cute! I like how expressive his eyes are, and the fabric you chose for his body is pretty. :)
Stuffies and doll clothes are a fun way to use fabric scraps. Here's a few resources if anyone wants to try and make their own like Justfortalkingtofriends does:
Check out Pinterest for stuffed toy patterns and doll clothes patterns. The Sewing Loft also has a list of 100 patterns, and knitters/crocheters will find plenty of inspiration on Ravelry. Socks also make for great dolls.
(A lot of tutorials may mention making these for kids, but there's no age limit on stuffed toys or dolls. The only thing that matters is that you - or the person you're making them for - enjoy them.)

1, 2, 14 for the crochet/knitting ask game :)
1. Crochet or knitting
This feels a bit blasphemous because I was crochet-only for such a long time, but I'm going to have to go with knitting! I think it has more to do with the fact that my future project list is almost exclusively knits, rather than an actual preference. Both have their place, but I'm more interested in growing my knitting repertoire at the moment!
2. Favorite yarn type
Ooh, well, I'm not sure I do enough of either to actually have developed a material/brand preference. It looks like I've used mostly acrylics, though I've also dabbled in wool and cotton (actually, cotton might be my preferred yarn for crocheting flowers? I found that out completely by accident!).
I did make a scarf a couple years ago with some of the softest yarn! It was an acrylic called Red Heart Unforgettable, and I would love an excuse to work with it again! I guess the yarn is living up to its name XD
(Here is the scarf pattern I followed, btw. B. Hooked has been one of my go-tos for browsing cool stitches and small crochet projects!)
14. Dream project
As it turns out, I maintain a whole list of dream/future projects! Most take the form of something (slightly) practical with a nerdy inspiration, color scheme, or embellishment. I do want to grow my skills, but I also want to keep practicing the basics, so right know that means making different types of things while adding a new stitch type/technique or two. All of these projects still require a non-insignificant amount of planning, which is one reason they’re still theoretical at this point (the other reason is time/other priorities):
Patchwork shawl (Clue, Sailor Moon, or Digimon-inspired)
Decorative pillow cover (Digimon, Sailor Moon, or Utena-inspired)
Mittens (Appmon-inspired) ask me about the matching hat
Reverse engineering a couple of winter hats (one warm, fuzzy chonker with no fandom association, one that approximately recreates this hat on the left from Laid-Back Camp:)
Tumblr media
Actually, something that I was thinking about last night that would be interesting(/challenging) to do is an oversized pastel eighties sweater. Maybe something like that would help soothe the savage beast in my soul that occasionally clamors for retro pixel/vaporware aesthetic (seems rude to call it a savage beast... it's almost certainly just the voice of my inner Mabel Pines).

Thanks for the asks! You can find the original meme here.

Something Else - Trans!(O) Amajiki Tamaki x (A) F!Reader
Summary: “You’ll get there someday!” Mirio always says. “You’ll do better next time.” Tamaki doesn’t want to get there someday. And if every Alpha always does, well, maybe he’s something else then.
Warnings : Crochet inaccuracy, probably. Also, confession stress.
Feedback is welcome !
Tumblr media
(I do not own the picture)
AO3
Prologue | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
——————— Chapter 3
“I j-just don’t know w-what I should do.” Tamaki admitted, his head comfortably against the wall of Nejire’s room.
Ever since he had come out to his best friend (and a little later, to said friend’s mate), things had been going rather well. They had not really changed when out and about, as to most he was still the shy Alpha from class 3-A. He didn’t mind it too much, for luckily, though people identified him as an Alpha from his scent, it was a subject unlikely to be discussed in most contexts. As long as he could be himself around his friends, so far, he was satisfied.
Since Mirio and Nejire knew, Tamaki had taken to just leaving his nest made in his room, simply locking the door on the off chance that someone else would visit him while he was not here.
One thing bothered him, though, and that was not knowing how to behave around the Alpha that caught his interest. The thought of telling her of his feelings as an Alpha was only slightly less dreadful than that of coming out to her. He was at a dead end.
“I’m pretty sure she likes you.” Nejire shrugged. “She would probably accept any kind of confession, if it’s from you. A letter maybe?”
The shy boy shook his head, sighing defeatedly.
“She’s b-been raised t-to be the best Alpha. I have to be m-more traditional than that.”
From behind him, he could hear Mirio humming.
“So that leaves making her a homemade gift, or asking her to scent something, depending on how you want to go about it.” The blonde thought aloud.
Tamaki shook in his shoes as he remembered his dreadful attempts at any sort of crafting when he was younger. His father had tried to get him to crochet, his go-to practice when nervous, and his mother had tried to take him woodcarving; but young timid Tamaki hadn’t even known how to make the simplest bead bracelets or drawing.
The intent behind it made the craft feel so overwhelming. He had quickly decided he would wait until finding a potential mate before trying again any of these.
“Maybe I should just s-stay like this. M-maybe if I just keep spending time with her as her f-friend, I’ll g-get used to her presence...”
Nejire was quick to come grasp his hand, pouting.
“Come on, I’ll teach you how to make these cute little thread bracelets! Or Mirio could show you how to patchwork a blanket.” She offered.
The sad Omega shook his head.
“These bracelets d-don’t last forever...” He sulked against the wall.
Tamaki tuned out Nejire’s coos about how much of a closet romantic he was at heart. The obvious answer would be to ask her to scent something for his nest, but he didn’t want to come off as not making enough efforts to court her.
“Maybe you could ask her.” Mirio helpfully decided. “Tell her you don’t know where to begin, have her help you. Maybe she’ll even tell you her favorites.” He coaxed.
With a sigh, Tamaki timidly looked away from the wall.
“Y-you think?” He tried to mask the hopefulness in his voice.
The blonde Alpha and his mate looked at each other, feeling they may have finally breached the shy boy’s defenses.
“I am certain.” The bubbly Omega grinned.
.
Much to Tamaki’s relief; his Alpha friend –and secret flame– had been ecstatic at the idea of helping him in his future courtship. She had first asked a lot of questions, the kind that left him with burning cheeks and ears, as he told her he couldn’t tell her yet.
When asked why, he had panicked and said he wasn’t sure of his feelings yet, and that he wouldn’t want to embarrass himself telling her if it was to be rejected soon after by said potential mate.
She had seemed to believe his lie – as he was positive there was no one else on this planet for him but her and her sweet scent.
The Alpha had given him clues as to what he could try; saying in passing how crochet was her favorite way to go. It took time, dedication, and a lot of love for someone to go through the exercise. Tamaki immediately chose it.
Next was what to do.
“If you were an Omega.” She looked at him in the eyes. “What would you like best from your Alpha?”
The shy boy had thought for a moment, unwilling to make his feelings too obviously out in the open. Looking for words, he fumbled with the rim of his shirt; suddenly aware of how hot the day was. Had his cheeks been this flushed the whole time?
“I-I guess I would w-want something that m-makes me think of t-them... S-something p-personal between us...”
In her smile, he knew he had a given a good answer.
“The key to a good gift is to make it thoughtful. Show the Omega you’re courting that you understand their needs and can provide.”
Early on, as she made him choose what colors he felt could be best for his work, Tamaki knew what he would do. He could not identify a single fault or need in her being, but he could make something that called back to their shared history. A scarf.
He chose a soft green that reminded him of the comfort her smell brought him, and a pretty pearly white that suited her bright personality.
His Alpha chose her own colors, so she could teach him by example.
They settled in her room, in the 2-B dorms. It was the first time one of them discovered the other’s sanctum. Amajiki took in the soft colors of her walls, white and green. She had told him these tints helped to calm her Alpha down, when it proved to be restless. For some reason, Tamaki felt even more nervous to be in her den. Sure, he had already been in Mirio’s dorm room several times, and knew visiting each other’s den was something most Alphas didn’t have trouble doing nowadays...
It probably didn’t feel any different to her than showing her place to one of her Beta friends, he thought, his Omega sorrowful, as it was simultaneously ecstatic to be shown around his Alpha’s place.
The room was drenched in her scent...
“It’s not easy, but don’t worry too much. You’ll get the hang of it soon.” She reassured him, sitting on her bed and him on her chair, as she showed him how to crochet with her own project.
Her colors were a light blue, a pale purple and white.
She spent an hour showing him different simple knots, letting him decide which ones he preferred. Feeling overwhelmed, Tamaki chose the first one she showed him, internally freaking out too hard to concentrate on the others. She also showed him how to change the colors, and gave him ideas of patterns.
They started immediately; the shy boy afraid he would forget if he was to leave now. He knew he wouldn’t have the courage to ask her again another time.
His beginning was sloppy, and he abandoned his first pattern idea when he struggled to change the color on a bad first try. Still, when they decided they were too tired to go on, Tamaki actually felt proud of what he had crafted.
The Alpha hadn’t asked more questions, so neither did he, but he had noticed while working in comfortable silence that her work was quite wide. Was she making a blanket? These gifts were very popular among Omegas. Easy to scent, soft enough to be put in a nest, warm. Tamaki wondered if she was just making it to accompany him, or if she too had someone in mind to gift it to.
.
Tamaki got his answer the next day, after class, as they had agreed to continue working on their projects in each other’s presence as soon as they could. Mirio had cheered for him as quietly as he could manage, and had batted away his fear of her having an Omega in mind. All in all, after spending the day with his friends and discreetly repeated the moves the Alpha had taught him, the shy boy was quite eager to get his courting gift (he still couldn’t think the words without blushing madly) finished.
At the time they had agreed on, Tamaki made his way to her dorms, hiding his face bashfully whenever he caught the gaze of one of her classmates.
A very tired looking Alpha opened the door to him, and seeing the bags under her eyes, and her hair ruffled from sleeping, Tamaki panicked. Had he mistaken her invitation of the passed day? Should he have checked by text if she was available? Or, worse, had she forgotten about him? His inner Omega wailed at the prospect.
“Oh, come in!” Her gaze lit up slightly when she noticed it was him. “I’m sorry for the state I’m in, I didn’t get much sleep.” She yawned as she moved from the door.
Tamaki nodded, and found his spot from the day before. As he got his halfway project out of his bag (where he had made sure it wouldn’t get messed up), he noticed she didn’t.
“A-aren’t you f-finishing yours?”
A bad feeling seized him then, only confirmed by the Alpha’s bashful expression.
“My Alpha wouldn’t let me sleep until I finished it. She’s very eager to give it away.”
There was no sound coming from the third year, though he wondered how to talk over the painful crack of his broken heart. His Omega whined, the urge to nest for comfort strong as he contemplated the pitiful work he had done.
“Oh.” he simply said.
He wouldn’t cry in front of her, he decided, as the urge to felt more and more intense.
The girl apparently felt his distress, though she misunderstood its origin.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m still here to help you, and I’ve got plenty more yarn to show you if you don’t remember well the gestures.” She reassured him, voice sweet, her calming scent a bit stronger.
Tamaki eventually managed to keep on his work through the sorrow. If the Alpha noticed his sadness, she didn’t comment on it, as she read over her homework while he crafted.
The elf boy didn’t dare ask her how her mate reacted. Eyeing her when she wasn’t looking, he could see her small smile through the exhaustion. If she had confessed her wish to court an Omega, the lucky person had most likely accepted.
Who wouldn’t? Tamaki got angry at the very notion that someone might not share her feelings. She was the most perfect Alpha, even to those who weren’t her mate –or not even Omegas, to her knowledge. He knew that very well.
After some time, all his thoughts blinding him, Tamaki realized what was supposed to be the end of his scarf was now a mess of knots not even closely resembling what he had in mind.
Ruined. His courting gift was ruined .
A tear escaped him, despite his efforts not to let it upset him.
He would never be enough for her. What Alpha, or even Omega, would want to wear such an ugly thing?
The Alpha must have felt his distress in the air or in his scent, for the next moment, she was all over him, her hand on his shoulder and her cheek pressing against his hair as she leaned down to take a look at his failed attempt at a scarf.
“I-it’s r-ruined.” Tamaki choked up, unable to keep the tears in.
Instantly, she coddled him, whispering sweet nothings to make him feel batter. She pried the fabric from his hands, inspecting the place where everything had started to go wrong.
“It’s okay, Amajiki... It’s salvageable!” She smiled at him. “If you only let me...”
The boy took the thing from her, heart on a full-on crisis. What use was he if he could not even make the girl he loved a proper courting gift?
“Y-you c-can't! I-It's supposed to be m-made on m-my own...”
He saw in her gaze that she understood the real struggle. Her eyes became soft, her soothing words becoming cuddling as she took it upon herself to comfort him.
“It’s fine... It’s only the first time you’re making this, you should have seen mine when I first learnt...”
And then, for some reason Tamaki would never understand himself, he told her. He told her in a cracked whisper, voice wet and miserable from his tears and body shaking.
“I-it was sup-supposed to b-be for you...”
As soon as the secret escaped him, two things happened at once.
One, he realized the nature of the confession he had just made, his hands flying to his mouth as if it would still keep the words in.
Second, above his hurried apology, a loud, loud purr was heard.
So loud, he felt it emanating from her chest against his side; so loud, he barely could think above its rumble.
When he dared look into the Alpha’s face, confused, what he found in her gaze was nothing less than joyful excitement.
“Really?” She exclaimed, crouching in front of him to get a better look at his eyes, from beneath his bangs.
His Omega quieted its cries at the excited contentment showing on her face, and the continued purr. Tamaki nodded shyly.
She stood up, practically ran to her dresser, and came back with a grin and a folded bundle of light blue, pale purple and white that she promptly thrusted his way.
“It’s a plaid. You can use it as a loose scarf –I know you don’t like anything too tight against your neck– or as a small blanket. I thought it would suit you well.”
For the first time, the shy boy saw her expression grow bashful.
“That is, if you accept it as my courting gift.”
Tamaki’s cheeks burnt, and he felt like hyperventilating as he felt the honesty in her voice. The purr hadn’t lessened, louder than he knew an Alpha could express their joy. It took him a moment to gather his thoughts, overwhelming as they were.
“I-I do. Ac-accept it, I mean...”
A mess of jumbled words escaped him, and when he nervously stopped talking, afraid of making a fool out of himself, Tamaki only found fondness in her gaze.
“Then I declare you, Amajiki Tamaki-”
“J-just Tamaki is f-fine...” he interrupted shyly.
“-my mate. Tamaki .” She repeated his name as though to prove a point, equal parts amused and tender.
————————
I know absolutely nothing about crochet, and so, forgive me for any unrealistic detail about the making of their courting gifts. I read that a scarf could be made by a beginner in under 6h with favorable choice of yarn; as for the plaid made in one night, let's just collectively agree that she has a side quirk that allows her to crochet faster than is normal.
On a happier note : Tamaki got a girlfriend ! Yay !
PS : it's not the fact that he's an Omega that prevents Tamaki from crafting a gift, but the responsibility it holds that makes him too anxious to do it. ;)

Top 5 Print & Pattern Trends for 2021 - Blog #1
You don’t want to miss these 5 amazing print and pattern trends for 2021!
I’m sure you’ve cleared out your wardrobe this year at least once or tried to. Finding unnecessary clothes at the bottom of your closet, there’s no denying everybody has their own style, however when it comes to spicing up tour wardrobe this year, consider these striking, dramatic prints. Everyone needs a bit of added colour, this year especially.
Nowadays, there’s no right or wrong in what you chose to wear, you can be as expressive as you want. With the freedom of jazzing up your wardrobe with prints and patterns that you wouldn’t normally, maybe colourful stripes, florals or perhaps Polka-dots! With the fashion industry growing, its sometimes hard to know what latest styles, prints and patterns are coming up next.
However, if you like to (try) and stay up to date with the latest forecasted trends like me, I’m sure you’ll be interested in knowing what lively and vivid prints and patterns are forecasted for spring/summer, besides It’s not too late! With the majority of trends requiring warm weather, or … a holiday, its great to see what’s predicted whilst the weather is still a bit nippy. In actual fact, now really is the time where designers, stores and shops are approving cheerful fashion, providing a range of ideas to help lighten up dull days and tiresome outfits we’ve come habitable to.
So, what’s on the menu for 2021 prints and patterns?
Cheery Checkerboards: With Tartan, Houndstooth, Plaid, and Gingham still being entirely relevant, the visible popularity has been checkerboards. Whether the print be face coverings, skater shoes or cargo pants, it has quickly become a favourite in 2020, seen throughout Pinterest and social media. It is inevitable the graphic print will be carried throughout 2021.

Peaceful pastel scenes: With more and more of us going on our daily walks, its no surprise we all want to escape reality and live in the luscious countryside, surrounded by beautiful forests.  It’s the scenic walks that are to blame for this pastoral scene pattern.  They’re appearing everywhere on knitted cardigans and jumpers now especially. Homespun jumpers are having their time to shine for once! Perhaps its all this free time on our hands, leading us to get the sewing machine and knitting needles out? Not only is it a great, dramatic piece on its own, but modest when layering with shirts, tops or maybe even a longlined dress?

Tie-Dye: It’s to no surprise tie-dye has been seen absolutely everywhere this past year. Socks, jumpers, bags, shoes, jackets, tops, you name it, I’m sure there’s a tie-dye version somewhere. But who is to blame for this throwback 90s/2000s print?  Everyone from Jordyn Woods to Nicki Minaj has been rocking this super chic, trendy print. Tie-Dye has also played a part in the modest fashion industry this past year, worn by modest fashion influencers. Seimara Hman, who looked stunning in a sunny yellow and white tie-dye jumper and jogger set. Zaheera Mohammed paired a candyfloss pink and sunset orange tie dye sweater with baggy mom jeans and nude top knot scarf.  This tie-dye technique has similarly reached the highest fashion designers, luxury brands like Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, OFF-WHITE, MGSM, and Loewe have all experimented with the ancient technique. With the oversized tie-dye tee, matching jogger set becoming a work-from-home staple, for the fashion conscious, I anticipate it’ll be seen significantly throughout 2021.

Retro Patchwork: Loewe’s simple patchwork cardigan blew up in 2020, becoming the most recognisable item of the year. Even Harry Styles wore one, it went viral! Shortly after, creative director, Jonathan Anderson released the famous knitting pattern so that the entire world could all crochet simultaneously. Nonetheless, outside of the movement, this notorious pattern had already been seen cropping up on cool, groovy girls Instagram feeds. Estelle and Imani wore this beautiful print paired with minimalist, laid back hippy clothes, making the beautiful print stand out for itself.

Sugary Strawberries: This has got to be my favourite print from 2020. The midi Strawberry tulle dress, designed by NYC based designer Lirinka Matoshi grew to Instagram fame, after her signature Strawberry dress was danced around in by Influencer and Celebrities from, Tess Holiday and Busy Philipps 12- year- old daughter Birdie. Along with modest fashion influencer Noor styling it with a black turtleneck and matching hijab back in July 2020, describing it as ‘a dream dress’. The gorgeous dress was available in blush pink and midnight black for $490 and £ 353.35 Alongside with a chic strawberry design by Gucci and some amazingly successful berry-dotted Crocs, this fruity print will with no bout be flourishing even bigger this year.

Fashion Tips: Designing at Home
Tumblr media
Sew a patchwork quilt with Next in Fashion’s Daniel Fletcher
Creative director and star of Netflix’s Next in Fashion, Daniel W Fletcher has plenty to get on with while in social isolation, designing a collection for Fiorucci as well as one for his own brand. In his down time, he is taking up a DIY challenge to make a patchwork quilt based on a dress he made during the filming of Next in Fashion, using other designers’ leftover scraps. The design – inspired by concerns over the melting polar ice caps – is an arctic landscape.
“Ever since the show, I’ve been inundated with requests to make similar quilted items, so I thought this was a good opportunity to show people how they can do so themselves.
“You can make it from any leftover fabrics you have. This time, I used some leftover damaged denim from my studio as the quilt base. I don’t imagine everyone has that lying around so use what you have.
“Heavier is better for the base so it can hold the appliqué – maybe some old curtains or an existing blanket that needs some love. If you don’t have enough to do a blanket, you could use the same technique to make a cushion. For the appliqué, it could be old clothes, tablecloths, tea towels – anything you can get your hands on.
“I went quite abstract with my pattern, but you could come up with a more elaborate design.
“Mine took me five hours on a sewing machine. You could hand sew it instead. It’s going to be a much longer process but could be very therapeutic, which is something we could all do with right now.”
Difficulty level: intermediate Equipment needed: an old blanket (or similar), scraps of fabrics, thread and needle
How to:
“For the nitty-gritty, head over to my Instagram – my wonderful sister captured the whole process.”
A post shared by DANIEL w. FLETCHER (@danielwfletcher) on Mar 27, 2020 at 12:52pm PDT
Crochet a small rug with menswear designer Liam Hodges
Facebook Twitter Pinterest
Liam Hodges has recently moved house, so his time in self isolation has been spent unpacking and making rugs.
“I learnt to crochet last October and have found it really relaxing. For our AW20 collection, we crocheted a lot of squares as embellishments. I’ve kept it up and even tried to make a skipping rope when I first went into isolation.
“I had been wanting to make some rag rugs and started working out how to crochet graphics into them. I made the graphic in Photoshop so that each pixel represented each crochet stitch.
“I thought doormat-size was perfect. I have mine by the door to remind me to keep positive and take the [government] advice about staying in seriously.
“It took me around two and a half hours to complete and is made up of old, shredded T-shirts for the coloured section and yarn made using Wool and the Gang offcuts for the main black areas, so it is entirely made from waste.”
Difficulty level: intermediate Equipment needed: an old T-shirt, a crochet hook, yarn and scissors
How to:
“Use our how-to digital zine on Instagram, which has the pattern as well as instructions on how to crochet.”

Sew a shark mascot with designer Christopher Raeburn
Facebook Twitter Pinterest
Designer Christopher Raeburn’s team are adapting to the current situation by releasing weekly creative tasks via their #RaeburnAtHome initiative.
“This project is to make one of our shark mascots. We have always featured animals in our collections, initially as a way to highlight and support endangered species through our WWF UK partner. The Shark is one of our most popular animals; we keep it in our collections each season, but it always evolves.
“You need no more than one square metre of fabric – even less if you are conscious of pattern placement for waste reduction. Using a variety of smaller cuts of fabric is encouraged though as this adds pops of colour and texture to the final shark.
“Not only is reusing and repurposing old fabric a more interesting way of working, but extending the lifetime of garments is instrumental in reducing planetary impact. When people are spending more time at home than ever before, now is the chance to pull out those bits that we no longer use and give them new life.
“Unless you are an absolute master, it should keep you busy for about 10 hours. We only recommend a sewing machine for ease and speed – top marks for effort go to anyone tackles it by hand.”
Difficulty level: advanced Equipment needed: a sewing machine, fabric, scissors, thread and paper.
How to:
Sew a kimono-inspired garment with designer Edward Crutchley
Facebook Twitter Pinterest
Designer Edward Crutchley’s lockdown aim is to set himself a project each day. His first was to cut a pattern for and sew a one-piece kimono-inspired garment. Next up is making miniature sculptures of the kings and queens of England using modelling clay.
“How to make Japanese clothes by John Marshall is a book I have on my shelf that I thought it would be great to lose myself in during isolation.
“I love traditional Japanese clothing and now is the perfect time to study. What I love about kimonos is that they are traditionally dictated by the fabric – they are the width they are because that is how wide the looms could weave. For a fabric geek like me, that’s a dream.
“A traditional kimono pattern looks like some different-length rectangles put together, but nothing is ever that simple and it takes a lot of skill to construct a traditional kimono properly. The one I made is much, much easier.
“I used three metres of fabric left over from the last collection, but you could make it with two metres if it’s 150cm wide, or you can easily add seams to the patterns or patchwork fabrics together. Repurposing old curtains or a bed sheet would be perfect.
“It took me around four hours to complete – there are only three seams and three hems. I tried to make it as simple as possible.”
Difficulty level: advanced Equipment needed: a sewing machine, two to three metres of fabric, thread, scissors, paper and dressmaking pins.
How to:
“The pattern I made is available to download for free here. The step-by-step sewing guide is saved on my Instagram highlights.”
Make a shrunken crisp-packet necklace with Tatty Devine
Facebook Twitter Pinterest
While social distancing, Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine, the designers behind Tatty Devine jewellery, are doing daily making challenges.
“It’s amazing for your mental health and the perfect antidote to these strange and unsettling times. This so-called shrinky necklace is something we did as kids. We first made one as Tatty Devine in 2001. It was very early days, when we made jewellery from whatever we could get our hands on. We enjoyed having to eat crisps.”
Difficulty level: beginner Equipment needed: old crisp packets (not foiled or metallic, such as Chipsticks or many supermarket own brands); a chain necklace (whether new or something you already own); greaseproof paper, a baking tray, a damp tea towel (for safety reasons), an old tea towel, a hole punch, a regular jump ring and two pairs of flat-nose pliers.
How to:
Set your grill to medium.
While the grill is warming, fold the greaseproof paper to make it into rough envelope shapes and pop your empty food packets inside – one wrapper per envelope.
Put the envelopes on a baking tray under the grill. The packet will start to shrink and curl up. You don’t want them to burn or blister so watch closely.
As soon as they are shrunken enough, remove the baking tray, quickly place a folded tea towel on top of the envelope and slam your hand down to flatten your “shrinky”.
Use a hole punch to make a hole somewhere on the packet.
Open a regular jump ring with the pliers and thread the packet on to the jump ring, then put the jump ring on to the necklace and close it.
You can stop with one pendant or layer up for a charm effect.
Knit a scarf with dancer Meshach Henry
Despite having no previous knitting experience, dancer Meshach Henry has made three scarves in as many days, documented on Instagram by his partner, the Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw.
“I always said I would learn a new skill like plumbing or plastering if I ever had a lot of time on my hands. But they aren’t ideal skills to practice in this current situation. So, having seen knitting supplies in a craftshop window recently, I thought, ‘Here’s my new hobby.’
“I purchased a thick wool because it looked easier to use and less fiddly. I bought 10mm knitting needles, which I thought were an average size but later found out are strangely big – but I’m really happy with the chunky effect they produce.
“What I like about knitting is that you can see your physical product. As a dancer, I rarely get to see my own work, so to be able to see and hold this tangible thing is a whole new world for me.
“My intention is to move on to knitting jumpers. I want to create a matching jumper for every scarf, just to keep things interesting.”
Difficulty level: beginner Equipment needed: knitting needles and wool
How to:
“I taught myself by watching an eight-minute Knitting for Total Beginners tutorial on YouTube. The tutorial taught me how to cast on in the first instance. Then there are follow-up links to a second video that teaches you how to change knitting style and how to cast off.”
Make drinking glasses with former British Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers
Facebook Twitter Pinterest
Lucinda Chambers is co-founder of fashion brand Colville and online shopping platform Collagerie and was fashion director at British Vogue for 25 years.
“I was in Paris six months ago having a glass of water in the Bon Marché and I noticed the glass looked suspiciously like the end of a wine bottle.” When Chambers investigated she found a world of home crafters making their own tumblers from pre-used wine bottles.
“I found an inexpensive kit on Amazon,” she says. “Each glass is a labour of love as I sand them by hand; it’s strangely therapeutic.”
Difficulty level: medium Equipment needed: empty glass bottles, a glass cutter kit (available online, for instance from Amazon).
How to:
“The kit has everything you need to make the glasses: a stand, saw and markers that you place on the empty bottle at the height you require your finished glass to be. You can make French-style low tumblers or something taller. Once you’ve cut the bottle you need to sand the cut edge smooth.”
The internet is full of videos, such as this one, that show you more details.

The leaves have turned, the nights are dark, and before we even realised, autumn had crept up on us. This season, we’re looking at nature, escaping the hard edges and cacophony of sounds that come with city life and delving deep into the forest.
Luxuriating in homespun fabrics, heritage patterns and arts-and-crafts colour palettes, the catwalks of AW19 were brimming with simple pleasures – an argyle sweater here, a crocheted scarf there – that, in the face of an impending Brexit, felt like a retreat to a place of safety and comfort for designers. Indeed, Alexa Chung’s show notes for her collection ‘Off the Grid, But Not for Long,’ conjured up the idea of an escape: her women, running from impending attack, are “growing their own food and figuring out how to be self-sufficient,” while Molly Goddard’s trio of patchwork and mismatched knits embodied the throw-it-on-and-go attire of wild walks in the vast countryside.
But perhaps the mood wasn’t the sartorial result of a fantasist’s withdrawal from the current political situation, but instead a reflection of wellness and nature, which, thanks to technology ruling every aspect of our lives, we crave as an antidote to the omnipresent digital. Whether it’s forest bathing or foraging for mushrooms, or simply filling your flat with plants, we’re all seeking comfort in the natural world right now.
With this search comes coziness, too. For designers outside of London Fashion Week, this quiet repose came in the form of teddy bear faux fur, homely tartan, tactile shearling and a thoroughly autumnal palette of mustard, chocolate and rust. Whatever you’re escaping from this season, wrap yourself up in a protective layer of autumn’s most comforting pieces, and off into the woods you go.

June 2019 Membership Crate Reveal
It’s June already, and we have a great crate planned to send you! This month’s theme is Calico and is inspired by soft florals, tiny posies, clover and patchwork quilts (with a KnitCrate twist, of course!)
We’ve designed a brand new yarn for you to try in this crate, Aloft is a 48% Merino Wool, 32% Organic Pima Cotton, and 20% Baby Alpaca blend that is chainette-plied, meaning that each strand is like a tiny braid that gives each stitch amazing definition. There are two colorways.
Tiger Lily, a creamsicle orange:
Tumblr media
Wee Violets, a soft royal purple:
Tumblr media
The patterns this month are both designed by Susan Lowman, who is just the best to work with and we love how she reflected the textures in both patterns! First, our knitting pattern, Rows of Lavender, is a crescent shawl with a dainty picot edge, faux cables and twisted stitches:
Tumblr media
Next, the crochet pattern, Golden Afternoon features front and back post crochet stitches and plays with openwork to create neat diagonal panels across the scarf. Note: the printed booklet features the wrong chart, and the digital version (available through your Table of Contents page in the booklet) is updated with the correct crochet chart:
Tumblr media
There’s also an extra in this crate (and there will be an extra in Membership from here on out!) This month we’re sending you a fabric-covered, retractable tape measure. On one side it has English measurements and on the other, Metric. The fabric used is a print of sweet little village houses that is such a good fit with this month’s theme.
View the extras and more in this month’s Reveal Video, and then join us on Ravelry as you wait to receive your crates and begin your projects. Not a subscriber? You can find this KnitCrate here.

The technique of knitting patchwork
http://handwork-art.tumblr.com
Patchwork, a technique of composing paintings from scraps. Knitting patchwork brings a fascinating and accessible even to novice knitters class. Knitting fabric separate squares of different colors of yarn allows you to use all the accumulated remnants of yarn. Using different colors of yarn and play on the contrast, create color patterns and figure on the canvas, then the thing will become a bright personality. In this beautiful technique, you can associate the perfect plaid, the original jacket or coat, and much more.
The technique of patchwork knitting is very simple, for its execution seamstress should be able to do a set of loops, knit front loop and do the subtraction. Knitted squares are not sewn and connected in the process of knitting.
The squares can be knit to any size. For example, the width of the square is 15 loops, so for knitting the first square should recruit 31 loop - 15 15 1 - loop Central on the corner of the square. The squares are knitted front loops on the front and reverse side, it turns out garter knit. In every other make of subtraction, promazyvaya 3 Central loops together (the first loop clear, the following two provarite along the front, pull the loop through the shot.).
The edges of the squares match with knots, this 1-th loop of a number of always take, promazyvaya (thread at work), and the last loop of the row knit as all facial. After the last row of knitting of the square will be the last 3 loops, cut and fasten the thread, extending the tip through the last loop. The first square is associated.
To begin crocheting the second square do 15 loops on the needle in the classical way, and the edge side of the first square 16 loops - insert the needle over the edge and pull the loop on the needle. Then knit the second square as the first, making each second row of subtraction on the center of three hinges.
Continue to knit the first row of squares to the desired width of the scarf, picking up loops and repeating all the steps as when knitting the second square.
Linking the first row of squares, go to knit the second row of squares. To this end, on the upper side of the first square type hinges 15 and additionally 16 loops on the needle throwing air loop of the working thread.
Next, knit a square, like all the first rows without obavlenia the front loops, then the second row and on through the number, do the subtraction, promazyvaya 3 Central loops together.
For knitting the second square of the second row along the edge of the second square of the first number of the dial 15 of the loops out of the corner of one loop and on the edge of the first square of the second row 15 loops. Knit a square.
Repeat the knitting of the squares of the second row, picking up loops on the principle of knitting the second square of this number.
