š§¶ Jogless stripes in the round
When knitting stripes in the round, a jog usually appears at the beginning of the round. To avoid it, try this:
Work to the last stitch of the round.
With the new colour, make a yarn over, bringing it up behind the working yarn.
Knit the last stitch using the old colour.
On the next round, knit with the new colourāand when you reach the yarn over, knit it together with the last stitch of the round.
Shown here on the cuff of the StripesNCotton Cardigan.

"According to National Coalition for the Homeless, 40% of the countryās homeless youth population is comprised of LGTBQ+ teens.Ā
When New York native Austin Rivers took up knitting during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was this staggering figure that drove him towards action.Ā
āI donāt have the capacity to build a shelter, the network or the connections to help in that way, but what I can do is knit,ā Rivers told NBC News.Ā
āAnd I know that New York City is cold, so I decided I would start knitting and create this nonprofit.ā
Thatās when he founded Knit the Rainbow, an organization that distributes free handmade garments to those in need.Ā
And nearly five years after it was first created, Riversā knitting collective isnāt just serving the queer community in New York City.
Their nationwide network links local yarn stores and local nonprofits with over 550 volunteers from 45 states.Ā
As of 2024, they have collected and distributed over 25,000 winter garments ā including sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, and socks ā throughout homeless communities in New Jersey, Chicago, Detroit, and beyond.Ā
Once clothing items are shipped to Riversā apartment, he works with volunteers to unpack boxes, tag and sort donations, and pack and deliver them to local shelters that provide housing to LGBTQ+ and HIV+ homeless youth.Ā

Although the organizationās impact is wider, and the piles of mail have grown higher, Rivers still has a hand in day-to-day deliveries.Ā
āWeāre going to do it whether itās rain, or snow, or shine,ā Rivers said in his NBC News interview, pulling a handcart topped with boxes.Ā
Those clothes could be the difference between frostbite and hospitalization, especially in cities that often drop below freezing in the wintertime.Ā
But Rivers also noted that every handmade item ā knitted, crocheted, or stitched ā has a dual impact, because every piece of clothing is made with love.Ā
āA lot of the times, the reason that theyāre unhoused is because they were kicked out by their families,ā Rivers said.Ā
āWeāre not just providing warmth, but weāre also providing that love and that compassion that they so often donāt have.āĀ
To the members of the community Knit The Rainbow served, he had a clear message.
āThere are thousands of people out here that are constantly thinking of you and using their hands to make things for you,ā Rivers emphasized. āSo donāt give up. Keep going.ā
To download free knitting [and crochet] patterns, donate a garment, or sign up to volunteer, you can visit the organization's website to get started."Ā

Since I no longer wish to support Meta with my presence on Instagram due to Meta allying with Donald Trump, I am hoping to find a community where I can share my knitting here on Tumblr. I used to be on Tumblr as a teenager 15 years ago, but I made a new username now to start over fresh.
The legwarmers in the picture are my proudest knitting achievement. They are my own design, made in two-color brioche and double knitting. I am working on the pattern, and wish to organize a test knitting hopefully this spring. But I need to finish the pattern first. And I am a perfectionist.
I am looking forward to meeting new people to discuss knitting here on Tumblr.

Another double knit tapestry! This one was much smaller than my last one, using the yarn left over from that project. (did I run out and have a visible color change? maybe)
As before this pattern was free on ravelry, but I did change the bottom + added tassels to tack the edges together. I'll have to find a cool stick to hang this one on, the dowel seems a little too clean for this project lol
#knitting#my stuff#double knit#knitting pattern#the pattern could probably be adapted to crochet if soemone feels so inclined#not my area of experience tho lol

The C(r)ozier Cowl (with pattern!)

I FINALLY DID IT, and I'm so incredibly pleased with how it turned out (it's also maybe the warmest scarf I've ever knit, the Terror costume design people knew what they were doing)
Details and pattern below the cut, along with more pics!
Details:
This infinite loop cowl is a knit recreation of the scarf/cowl worn by Captain Francis Crozier in the first season of the tv show The Terror (2018).
The choice of yarn is, in my opinion, very important to the accuracy of the result. The pattern is quite simple, so getting the right yarn makes a big impact. My suggested yarn is below.
This is knitted in seed stitch at a very tight gauge, using a worsted weight yarn on size 4 needles. This produces a gauge consistent with the scarf from the show (did I measure Jared Harrisā eye and use it to calculate gauge from a photo of Crozier wearing the scarf? MAYBE SO). It makes the knitting a little hard on the hands, but the resulting fabric is DELIGHTFULāsuper dense, and since the cowl is knit as a tube it's double thick and, in my experience, nearly entirely windproof. THIS IS A VERY WARM COWL!
After looking at too many screenshots, I ultimately determined that the article in the show is in fact a scarf (you can see the edge VERY briefly in one shot). However, I have designed my version as a tube cowl, as it more easily reproduces the look of the article as worn in the show (doubled over and in a continuous loop around the neck with no edges visible). You could produce a scarf instead by knitting this flat instead of in the roundācast on the same number of stitches with a long tail cast on, and then only knit/repeat row 1 (consider adding a seldvege edge).
If you have questions or want tips, or just want to show me what you made, hit me up!! Iād love to chat.
Materials:
3 skeins (approx. 660 yards) Cascade 220 Heathers in color 2445 Shire (google it to find purchasing options, or ask your local yarn store to order it!)
Size 4 needles; either 16 inch circulars or double-pointed
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
Instructions:
Provisional CO 72 stitches on size 4 16-inch circular (or double pointed) needles to work in the round. Place marker.
Row 1: k1 p1
Row 2: p1 k1
Repeat until cowl measures approximately 54 inches (4.5 feet; 137 cm) or desired length.
Unpick provisional cast-on, placing live stitches on any spare circular needles or dpns. Kitchener stitch ends together (tutorial for doing so in pattern here).
Wear as a single or double loop.
Now go have some glorious homoerotic tension with your second in command!

#the terror#knitting#francis crozier#my knitting#knitting pattern#I have been wearing this scarf constantly since i finished it#it's incredibly warm and i also love the extremely subtle nod to the show#it makes me feel like an undercover super fan every time i step outside

Bear Claws was designed to celebrate the 10th birthday of the stacked stitch technique and the Fox Paws pattern. This engaging striped colorwork project features a large scale flame stitch motif. The pattern is relatively simple, using only a few rows of shaping in combination with color to create a distinct claw motif.

The wavy colorwork in Bear Claws is created using stacked increases and decreases. There are no loops on the wrong side and the wrap is very stretchy and drapey. The fabric is light and airy, not dense like stranded colorwork and mosaic knitting. If you're new to stacked stitches, check out my playlist on YouTube. You'll have an easier time with these stitches if you've tried increases, decreases and slipped stitches.

This pattern can be recolored in many ways, the coloring page available to anyone who wants to download it. You can use any number of colors you like, as long as they have good contrast. I recommend picking a Main Color that is not too bright or flashy in comparison to the others.

Written instructions are included in the pattern alongside a visual guide called a āstitch map.āĀ It's not the same as a traditional chart and is meant to be used with the written pattern. The rapidly fluctuating stitch count of the stacked stitches doesnāt fit nicely into a square grid. Instead, the map uses symbols and lines that bend and flow as the rows do, as they would in a crochet chart. The primary use of the stitch map is to show how each row relates to the last and to help you find mistakes and get back on track.Ā
