can we fundraise to pay for kevan brighting to voice stanley parable Narrator GPS lines?
"Stanley took the next highway exit left."
[Person takes the wrong turn.]
"This was not the correct way to his destination, and Stanley had apparently not paid attention to what the GPS was saying. Or maybe he thought he knew better. Stanley was wrong."

i dunno how many people have seen it but there’s a streamer called DougDoug who plays games n stuff and he’s rly funny and cool but he did a Stanley Parable stream (archived w/ minimal cuts on DougDougDoug) with his brother Davey Wreden aka the writer of the game! i wouldn’t say it’s the best display of Doug’s general content (he’s more chaotic in a rly funny way if u ever want video reccs lmk <3) but it IS a very cool stream for people who like Stanley Parable b/c Davey goes into some of the behind the scenes stuff and there’s banter and everything, just think it’s cool :] I’m rewatching it rn ^_^
(Davey also like texts one of the head designers at CrowsCrowsCrows who developed the game Dom and like gets some of his input too, it’s just a very chill stream albeit 3 hr long but it goes into some of the behind the scene stuff plus it’s just kinda relaxed and fun!)

Mystery Of The Cable Cryptid (and a few possible explanations.)
For me, one of the most interesting additions to The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is this odd bundle of wires/cables (maybe even tentacles, if you want to get creative) near the freedom/countdown ending, just right of the catwalk.
Tumblr media
These cables sink into the darkness as soon as you enter the "facility power" room, so it's hard to get a proper look at them. This is never adressed, and to my knowledge is the only sighting of them. I've put 40+ hours of gameplay into Ultra Deluxe, yet have only recently noticed it after having it been pointed out to me. By the lack of conversation about it, I assume it slipped by most others gazes too.
[footage taken from below]
So what's the deal?
Here are some of my theories:
Let's start with the least interesting one, it could simply be a graphical error. I'm not personally too invested in this because everything seems a bit too hidden and intentional to me, but it is a possibility.
It's a little detail Davey sprinkled in there for a bit of hidden environmental storytelling, much like how he included random out of bounds speakers in the original stanley parable.
I myself am most inclined to this particular theory. If I'm not mistaken, Davey has spoken before on how CrowsCrowsCrows did most of the environment enriching details in Ultra Deluxe (papers, whiteboards, etc.) so someone on the team decided to throw something weird in the background where nobody would find it, and it slipped into the final release.
[very large thank you to @ihazmunchies91 for being the first to document this]

Something I keep thinking about and have been struggling to put into words abt my headcanons for tsp, 432, the narrator, and the “canonical timeline” is the extra meta layer of the blurred line between diegetic and nondiegetic… creation?
It’s so hard to try to summarize. Let me explain.
Diegetically, the narrator “created” the parable, the story, Stanley, 432, the skip button, etc etc. he’s a godlike entity who made a video game for the sake of art. He has full control of the parable, save for certain key moments.
Nondiegetically, a video game company named CrowsCrowsCrows made the video game called the Stanley parable, and hired kevan brighting to voice a character. The video game company developed every aspect and asset. The narrator is nothing more than a character.
And yet, diegetically, this is acknowledged in several places in story. The most obvious aspect is the Museum ending, though the Confusion ending is also a pretty big one. The new “bottom of the mind control facility” ending also acknowledges these developers who had to resolve the bug.
The clash between diegetic and non diegetic, the insertion of non diegetic into the diegetic, is one of the most beloved points of the game, since from its immediate loadin, the narrator (an aspect that is nondiegetic in most other stories that have one) is inserted into his own story. He’s breaking his own “in-story” consistency.
So you have a story within a story within a story. The narrators story/video game he is telling and trying to make, the story of the narrator clashing with Stanley/the player, and then the real world application of CrowsCrowsCrows making this video game abt all of it.
How fucking confusing is that? Me just trying to explain all of this as simply as possible. That’s why it’s been so hard to figure out how to talk about it. But all of this has to be covered for this next part to really make sense.
Because I’ve talked about how I think the implication is the narrator made 432 but then changed his story and 432 didn’t fit anymore, and this led to 432’s disappearance and their own condescension of him.
That is only the first two levels of “story within story”. The final meta layer, that I haven’t addressed even tho it’s been in my head from the start, is that technically that information, the entire above paragraph, just Is Not True.
The narrator did not make 432. The narrator and 432 and Stanley and the curator, all of them are simply characters that interact with each other, all made by CrowsCrowsCrows. They may not actually KNOW this, in their own universe, but it’s an inescapable truth.
And the only character who actually knows it, can see all the layers of narrative and truth, is the Curator. She protects this secret, she knows all they are is code and recorded lines by actors, made by a company.
The reason all of this is fascinating to me is because of how it affects my interpretation of headcanons, fanfiction, and art.
If the complex weaving of meta narrative and nondiegetic storytelling has captured people, and they know what it is (even if they can’t fully name it), and they are still writing and drawing characters growing with each other, interacting, trying to and sometimes succeeding in finding freedom—
On some level we may know and want hope that our decision to care about these fictional characters means something. That it can have an impact, an actual impact. We believe they can grow because they have an interaction with the real world and we can affect them.
That’s incredible isn’t it? Like obviously we know from our own real world aspect they are characters, solid and contained to the diegetic worlds they inhabit. We just don’t care because we love them anyway.
CrowsCrowsCrows made a game with a bunch of characters and released it into the world in the hopes people would like it, be amused by it, or even moved by it. That’s what the narrator strives for with “his” video game, too.
And that is why the whole point of The Stanley Parable, diegetically, non diegetically, and on every narrative level, is to be loved by its fans.

(Drop Some Random Info of My TSP Universe XD)
(Used the translator)
1-Delete Save Data
Deleting the Save Data is the equivalent of initializing the entire Parable world, including Abaddon.
This action causes the yellow screen to shatter, then all screens other than the green screen are rebooted and have their memories erased, including the curator's red screen and the setter's black screen, and the map is destroyed and then reloaded, during which time another yellow screen will be generated.
After deleting the Save Data all of Abaddon's memories will be erased and he will return to the state he was in when the game first started. Only other screen holders can physically hit the yellow screen. Green screen holders can cause the yellow screen to shatter at any time without needing to physically strike it.
Deleting the Save Data is also the only viable way to kill Abaddon: by preventing the screen from regenerating during the screenbreak (e.g., by stabbing the hole in the chest screen with an object), you can keep Abaddon in a "failed to load" state, where holes appear in the map and the other screens may or may not be working, but the green screen is unaffected.
A broken screen is in a sense equivalent to destroying Abaddon's brain. It would make him virtually unable to think, and preventing the screen from regenerating would cause him to malfunction tremendousl

3-First Data
There has actually been more than one save data within ANW, and in the first save data, sometimes parable would offer buttons to seduce stl, or even directly control stl's physical actions. At that time stl chose to confess to abd and occasionally let parable take the blame for his selfishness
The artist saw this and went along with it, following this lead and letting parable start pointlessly attacking and torturing, engaging in a lot of boring stuff like coerced live rape, long term solitary confinement, all this brewed out of nothing but a crazy dependent abd and a stl in a dilemma both situationally and psychologically, well there's also an angry irritated breathless curator and a psychotic tk assimilated into the stl.
With abd being pushed so hard, the chances of the curator and stl talking became extraordinarily high. The two of them exchanged the feeling that really no one can stand a little, the curator came up with a plan
The curator understands abd's character, abd can control stl, but he can't control the people off screen. Now he trusts stl and thinks that he and stl are now extremely insecure every moment in parable. The curator says you can delete the archive, it's just that no one knows what will happen, but at the very least we can start from scratch.
stl deleted the archive with further agonizing, and after confirming that everyone had lost their memories, he switched to keeping a little bit of information on the abd. The artist saw the changes and stopped torturing them both as much as before.
The new world itself didn't change because of the reboot, but at least stl made abd's mental state better, it just required sacrificing some good feelings. In fact even if stl hadn't said anything, abd knew what the Painter could do to him now, but most of the variables were currently stabilized on stl, which greatly diminished his anxiety.
Stl's experiences in the first SAVE DATA gave him a primer on people off screen and a high resistance to great trauma and death, in short mastering the ability to delete archives has made him much more fluid than he was before. It was also these experiences that taught him what he could and couldn't do in this world, when to reset and what memories needed to be deleted

Two sides of my Fernator AU 😳😳
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am so happy you guys enjoy this au sm, I want to thank yall
These two are inspired by two comments, @chronicsheepdeprivation sharing in their tags the idea of Stanley in memory zone hand watering the plant and @depraced asking for more body horror 😳😳
I actually have different pathways the au can take depending on Stanley's choices but also based on Narrator. The second one is set in an au where Narrator slowly changes Stanley's model into a plant, with each reset it hitting a bit more, eventually making Stanley unable to move from his room in the office. This au alone has certain pathways but I am too lazy to make anything more akehjshs
I adore this fandom and many AUs and hope I'll create some fanarts for those but I hope you will like this small update <3

Personal Message From The Narrator FAQs
Heya! really happy to see the positive response I got to posting the commission I got from Kevan Brighting. Many people have been asking similar questions, so I thought I could group them in one spot.
1. How much did this cost?
865 pounds, which is almost 1100 dollars. It was around 495 pounds for the script as is, and the rest was paying for licenced use on Tumblr. If you feel like pursuing your own project, price will vary depending on how long it is and whether its for personal use or public use. Price also varies based on which country you’re in, for strange and unknowable tax reasons. (VAT? I don’t understand these things at all)
2. Can I use this recording/repurpose it for my own project?
Sorry, no. The licence I have forbids me from using it for commercial projects because they want you to have a different licence if you’re going to make a profit from his work. So please don’t upload it with copyrighted music to Youtube, or anywhere that would violate that rule. I can’t edit clips from the audio either, as far as I can tell, so please don’t ask. It took a lot of money to get the commission, I can’t afford a legal battle if this gets out of hand. I have trouble reading legalese, so if something changes, you guys will be the first to know. Otherwise, please don’t touch it.
3. What’s with the mention of an ‘original script’?
The original script I sent in was different from the final project. There was a lot of mentions of elements from the stanley parable game. Unfortunately, the contract that Kevan has between himself and crowscrowscrows means that he can’t mention the game directly. Some sort of copyright issue that makes things complicated. I ended up rewriting it so it wouldn’t violate the contract he’s under. If people request it, I will post the OG script for everyone to look at. Though it may make you upsetti spaghetti, because the OG script I wrote was really cool.
4. If it was that expensive, why did you do it?
There were a lot of reasons. This was a message I needed to hear myself. Without going into too much detail, I don’t come from the friendliest of homes. While I was debating pursuing the project, a family member told me that I was dumb, and that I was lazy, and that if I had enough spare money to afford a commission like this that my job was paying me too much. She said a couple of other things, but i’ll leave it at that. I decided to go for it after that because I needed a strong and wonderful voice to drown out what had been said. and... our beloved narrator has one of the strongest and most wonderful voices around.
The other reason I did it is because I am not immune to the parasocial relationships that form on tumblr. It takes a lot for me to follow someone, so I do a lot of lurking. I recognized many people who I had come to appreciate within the fandom were struggling with various problems. You are beautiful, wonderful people, and I’m not someone who can contribute easily to a fandom space. My art skills are lacking, and writing for the narrator is very difficult because I have such a need to get his character right. My interpretation is that he’s someone with a lovely heart who’s got a whole bunch of ego and anxiety on top of that. He’s someone who desires affection and praise but is unable to directly ask for it. (#RELATABLE) I also imagine it’s difficult for him to comfort others, because vulnerability is hard, whether giving or receiving. He’s really complex, and hard to write for, so I can’t do that easily either. The amount of time it took to write the script and keep it in character was way longer than I’m willing to admit to. But posting the commission I got was within my ability. This is my contribution to the community here. I hope it helps everyone get through another day, because we all deserve that much. (maybe i’ll rant about this in another separate post, but this is already getting long, so...)
5. How were you able to afford it?
It wasn’t easy. I am a full time college student with a part time job that’s slightly above minimum wage. It’s been my dream to commission something like this since 2013. I’ve been squirreling away bits and pieces for a very long time. I am not rich by any means. Which leads to an unfortunate question...
6. Will you do this again?
Unless I get a job with an excellent salary or win the lottery, it’s a firm no. If I had the funds, I would immediately write more and more, and drown us all in comfort. I want to make it absolutely clear, Kevan Brighting deserves to be fairly compensated for the work he does. But his work is not something I can afford on a regular basis. I got lucky having the resources I have, and having the wiggle room to do this was a miracle. If he doesn’t retire by the time I’ve saved up enough to do it again, maybe I’ll consider it. But realistically, this was a “once in a lifetime” project.
7. Can you accept donations based on this project?
Nope. I am doing my absolute best to err on the side of caution for this, because again, I will not survive first contact with a lawyer. I believe donations may fall under some sort of commercial use indirectly, so we can’t do that either. You are welcome to donate to me on my Kofi, but it can’t be because of the recording.
8. Was it worth it?
Yup.
9. Are you sure?
There’s no doubt in my mind that this was the right thing to do. Based on the responses i’ve seen, this was something we needed. I’ve been listening to it on loop since it appeared in my inbox last night. Honestly, I consider myself lucky that Kevan did such an incredible job on it. I fretted and debated over the script when I sent it in, wondering if I had pushed his characterisation too far, because the narrator in my mind plays the “lovable asshole” trope very well, and it is a really hard balance to maintain. Kevan smashed it out of the park. He carried the script, making the lines I wondered most about sound believable. I believe deep down that the narrator cares for his audience, and getting that side of him to show was beautiful.
(And feel free to pop in the inbox/chat to say hi. I love ranting about this game, so don’t be shy.)

I honestly truly wish that crowscrowscrows had put a secret in the game where if you set the time to 432, the timekeeper says something about it, seeing as he is 432.
