These were me and Clint when we were 7 and 5 shot at our backyard garden in Barra, Dipolog City. I feel nostalgic looking at it especially now, after years of portfolio projects and advocacy works for Clint and me jumping from different jobs from local government, to electric coop to airport logistics to hotel engineering, we're pulled back once again with his agri- science and technopark project and me in its sustainable agritourism and destination development component. Pooling the talents and skill sets of closest people, we will go beyond tambuwali, kalamunggay and amargoso. Perhaps this time, we will migrate from backyard to an entire region. #sustainabletourism #agritourism #ecotourism #technopark #USTP #strategicplanning #CultureAndArts #heritage #culturalmapping #USTPClaveria #UnSToPpable #vision2030 #agropolis #agropolissprint #backtowherewestarted #DipologCity #whenwewereyoung (at Ustp-Claveria) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDPus5pBjx_/?igshid=1h2x6mccvri0a

As part of our fieldwork for the second module of the Cultural Heritage Mapping Workshop, which was on built and intangible heritage, our group visited my alma mater - Samar National School (SNS). SNS is the first secondary public school in the whole island of Samar, which traces its foundation in 1904. The main building also called the Gabaldon Building, was inaugurated in 1917, which actually celebrates this year its centenary anniversary as an enduring beacon of hope and knowledge. It was nostalgic to be touring and gleefully recalling our fond memories about my school, which some from our group actually graduated from there as well, collectively telling our shared Samariñan experience. Thank you to my groupmate Maam Thelma (shoutout to my barkada @renessachua) for the kind assistance in providing the necessary documents needed in our assignment and for touring us around my Samar High. We have been informed that a national funding has already been approved and has actually started the procurement process for the rehabilitation of the whole Gabaldon Building, which actual works will commence next year to bring back the former glory of Samar’s first secondary school. Heritage and for this group work, a built heritage, and its protection and preservation is very important for this generation and to the next should not be just for the stature or reputation but mainly for its shared memories. In protecting and preserving our built heritage including intangible cultural properties such as drama, music and craft techniques among others, we are safeguarding the history that describes the former generation, we are protecting the identity that distinguishes us, and we are ensuring the generations to come with the awareness and the consciousness that will define this country. #sns #samarhigh #heritagePH #samarhighschool #catbalogancity #captivatingcatbalogan #kadaankatbalogan #kulturakatbalogan #culturalmapping #sparksamar (at Samar National School (SNS))

Sometimes I wander around NewYork using a Milan street map—a deliberate experiment in shifting perceptions and challenging paradigms. The disruption is jarring yet illuminating, revealing how easily we can be led astray by the wrong mental framework. Now imagine living your entire life that way—walking around with the wrong map. The influences of family, school, religion, workplace, friends, and moral ethics shape an invisible blueprint in our minds, defining our parameters and paradigms. Let’s break free. Let’s step outside and see the world with fresh eyes.

The Origin of my Barangay
Barangay Milagro was a sitio of Barangay Dolores named Sitio Pikas in which no one is living there. According to folks, there were two siblings named Vicenter and Olegio Togunon who looks for firewood near the river. While they were cutting the tiny branches of trees, Vicente felt that something was thrown to him. He asked his younger brother to stop flingin on him. But, Olegion refused to agree he didn't throw anything. For the third time, he noticed that it was coming from the Anagasi Tree. He curiously ran into the Anagasi Tree, he was surprised when he saw sparkling object like the size of a match stick. He get the object and hurriedly brought it home without bringing any firewood at all. They let their parents Mamerta Sumaya and Alipyo Togunon know about it. But, when they saw it, it was an image of Sr. San Jose. It was kept at the kaban of the couple.
At night, Mamerta had a dream in which Sr. San Jose introduce and confirm her that he was the image brought by her sons Vicente and Alipyo. Sr. San Jose asked her not to be kept inside the kaban since he felt scorching. Mamerta nervously woke up and quickly opened the kaban. In her surprise the image was gone, she looked for it everywhere until she found it in a shoe. They decided to make a box case where Sr. San Jose will be laid.
From then on, the miracle story about Sr. San Jose spread from neighboring barangays. Lost of people from different places visited the place since the image of Sr. San Jose did miracles such as healing sickness, they offered candles and prayers. Later, the story was known to the city named Ogmok. Alipyo was arrested together with the image of Sr. San Jose by the city Tenyente since he was scattering false miracle and deceiving people. He was imprisoned at the Casa and the image of Sr. San Jose was burned. After the incident, the person who burned the image was paralyzed and image remain undestroyed. The paralyzed person got mad an dtested how the image did its miracles. He talked in bitterness to the image and made a deal to it. If he can walk again, he will walk by kneeling in going to the chapel and release Alipyo from being imprisoned. Days later, the person healed from being paralyzed. Then, he commit to walk by kneeling in going to the chapel and released Alipyo from being imprisoned at the casa. From then on, the place was called Milagro.

2014 Wikipedia Cultural Heritage Mapping Volunteer Program
Maybe this is my biggest break with my involvement in Philippine heritage since 1st year college. A once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of a comprehensive team of heritage experts + largest online encyclopedia in the world. I'm wishing for the best, although the road towards being an official cultural heritage expert is tough and tiring.
If there's a will, there's a way. If I manage last year's storm, I'm pretty sure that I can weather the 2014 storm. High hopes for myself, for my family, for my country.
I would continue to do my best, to be part of this momentous project until the very end. So help me God. All for the love of heritage!

Two fields, two certifications. What a better way to highlight my decade in government service than by receiving a certification for our nine-month work on cultural heritage mapping from DOT, DepEd, UST, and Samar Province; and a national certification from TESDA and training institute for our ten-day training plus assessment on tourism promotion services. My sincerest thanks to all our mentors, coaches, officemates and colleagues for the support and trust. Two quotes that I will always remember from these two milestones are: “Heritage conservation is not just about the study but an action,” as shared by Prof. Eric Zerrudo of UST Graduate School; and “One objective of tourism promotion according to Salah Wahab is to make the message more attractive without being dishonest,” as shared by Sir Enzo Merez-Caling of Access Link Skills Training Academy, Inc.. Here’s to continuously improving ourselves in order for us to improve the quality of work we do and in turn improve the lives and the communities we touch and serve. #catbalogancity #culturalmapping #tourismpromotion #ncii #instatrain #grateful #thankyou #adorhurtado (at City Tourism, Culture, Arts & Information Office)
