The names of streets and squares tell us a lot about the history of a city. Sometimes they refer to real people or places, sometimes to legends. To the first category belongs one of the most macabrely named places in Venice: the Riva di Biasio.

Biasio (or Biagio) was a Venetian butcher who lived in the 15th century. He had his shop on the banks of the Grand Canal and was famous for a dish he was very good at: the sguazeto, a kind of stew made with various types of meat. Biasio's had a secret ingredient that no one suspected.

One day, while eating the charchutería's signature dish, a man bit into something that looked like a bone, but on closer inspection, he realised it was a human finger. Horrified, he immediately reported it to the city authorities, who raided Biasio's pantry and discovered the secret ingredient: children's meat.

The murderous butcher was beheaded and quartered, and his remains were sent to the four corners of the city. The shop itself was demolished, but today a vaporetto stop is a reminder of this macabre story, which, although it may look like a horror story, seems to have actually happened.

The story of Biagio and his tavern is also recalled in a 16th-century chronicle where we read that all boats coming from Mestre arrived at Biagio's tavern to eat his delicious meat. Even among the nursery rhymes handed down by word of mouth and quoted in Foscarini's Canti del popolo Veneziano there is one that recalls Biagio.

Los nombres de las calles y plazas nos dicen mucho de la historia de una ciudad. A veces se refieren a personajes o lugares reales, otras veces a leyendas. A la primera categoría pertenece uno de los lugares con un nombre más macabro de Venecia: la Riva di Biasio.

Biasio (o Biagio) era un charcutero veneciano que vivió en el siglo XV. Tenía su tienda a orillas del Gran Canal y era famoso por un plato que le salía muy bien: el sguazeto, una especie de estofado con diversos tipos de carne. El de Biasio llevaba un ingrediente secreto del que nadie sospechaba.

Un día, mientras comía el plato estrella de la charchutería, un hombre mordió algo que le pareció un hueso, pero al fijarse mejor, se dio cuenta de que se trataba de un dedo humano. Horrorizado, lo denunció de inmediato a las autoridades de la ciudad, que irrumpió en la despensa de Biasio y descubrió el ingrediente secreto: carne de niños.

El carnicero asesino fue decapitado y descuartizado, y sus restos se enviaron a los cuatro extremos de la ciudad. Por su parte la tienda fue demolida, pero hoy en día una parada del vaporetto recuerda esta macabra historia que, aunque parezca de terror, parece que aconteció realmente.

La historia de Biagio y su taberna se recuerda también en una crónica del siglo XVI en la que se lee que todos los barcos procedentes de Mestre llegaban a la taberna de Biagio para comer su deliciosa carne. Incluso entre las rimas infantiles transmitidas de boca en boca y citadas en los Canti del popolo Veneziano de Foscarini hay una que recuerda a Biagio.

I nomi di strade e piazze ci dicono molto sulla storia di una città: a volte si riferiscono a persone o luoghi reali, altre volte a leggende. Alla prima categoria appartiene uno dei luoghi più macabri di Venezia: la Riva di Biasio.

Biasio (o Biagio) era un macellaio veneziano vissuto nel XV secolo. Aveva la sua bottega sulle rive del Canal Grande ed era famoso per un piatto in cui era molto bravo: lo sguazeto, una sorta di stufato fatto con vari tipi di carne. Quello di Biasio aveva un ingrediente segreto che nessuno sospettava.

Un giorno, mentre mangiava il piatto forte della charchutería, un uomo addentò qualcosa che sembrava un osso, ma a un esame più attento si rese conto che si trattava di un dito umano. Inorridito, denunciò immediatamente il fatto alle autorità cittadine, che fecero irruzione nella dispensa di Biasio e scoprirono l'ingrediente segreto: carne di bambino.

Il macellaio assassino fu decapitato e squartato e i suoi resti furono inviati ai quattro angoli della città. Il negozio stesso fu demolito, ma oggi una fermata del vaporetto ricorda questa macabra storia che, sebbene possa sembrare un racconto dell'orrore, sembra essere realmente accaduta.

La storia di Biagio e della sua osteria viene ricordata anche in una cronaca del sedicesimo secolo dove si legge che tutte le barche che venivano da Mestre arrivavano all'osteria di Biagio per mangiare la sua buonissima carne. Anche tra le filastrocche tramandate a voce e citate nei Canti del popolo Veneziano del Foscarini ce n'è una che ricorda Biagio.

[Album] Melanie De Biasio mit neuem Album!

Melanie De Biasio kündigt ihr neues Album „Il Viaggio“ für den 13. Oktober über [PIAS] Le Label an und veröffentlicht gleich zwei neue Singles. „Now Is Narrow“ und „We Never Kneel To Pray“ präsentieren einen ganz besonderen neuen Sound der belgischen Künstlerin – zurückhaltend und weich umgarnt ihre Stimme die minimalistischen Soundkulissen, welche an melancholische Filmsoundtracks erinnern. Beide Stücke sind aus derselben musikalischen Idee entsprungen und interpretieren diese einmal akustisch und das andere Mal elektronisch.

Das Album „Il Viaggio“ ist als zweiteilige Reise kreiert worden und entsprang Melanies Erinnerung an ihre italienische Herkunft, weshalb sie einen Großteil des Albums auch in einem kleinen Bergdorf (Lettomanoppello) in den Abruzzen, Italien aufnahm. Melanie reiste ihrer eigenen Geschichte hinterher, nahm immer wieder kleine Skizzen auf und tauchte tief in die eigene Gefühlswelt und ihre italienischen Wurzeln ein. Beide Album-Teile, „Lay Your Ear To The Rail“ und „The Chaos Azure”, tragen den Drang nach stetiger Veränderung und Weiterentwicklung in sich und bearbeiten diese auf einer einnehmenden Reise – Il Viaggio, wie es im Italienischen heißt.

Das Album klingt wie eine Traumreise, gespickt mit Natursounds, unaufdringlichen Momentaufnahmen von Wind, Wasser, Vogelgezwitscher sowie Kirchenglocken und öffnet so einen Raum, in dem das Konkrete kein Gewicht hat und es darum geht, rohe Musik zu vermitteln. Klavier, Flöte, Streichinstrumente, elektronische Soundscapes und Melanies Stimme vereinen sich zu einem beinahe transzendentalem Trip.
