I'm just flobbily formulating this, but it gives me so many feelings seeing Kira, a fighter since she was 12, who probably has felt more alone in her life than she has felt companionship, being backed up by people she first thought of as a inconvenience. Sure she has good ties with Odo, but Jadzia, Julian and Miles turning up to tell her goodbye because she left an impression on them, she formed a bond with them just hits me. And the second they hear it's not her choice, the barricades go up and they all take on fighting stances. And she even manages to call them her friends!!!

Also I am now finishing season 2 of ds9 and am fully invested in garashir - (it feels so canon??)

both of them are senior officers but the juxtaposition of kira being not starfleet and jadzia being very experienced in starfleet (both as jadzia and through the other dax hosts). kira tends to deal with problems by confronting them head on while jadzia takes more time to think through a solution. kira gets personally invested in things and will often do what is right to her rather than follow rules, while jadzia takes a more detached approach. they work well together though and they get along well too.

idk i think it would be pretty interesting to consider them as foils

i'm not super into star trek novels and the beta canon and whatnot but i'm so glad that i read Last Best Hope because it really makes Picard s1 infinitely better on rewatch (and i say this as a Picard enjoyer/defender). like 100% recommend if you're even a little bit interested in Picard era worldbuilding.

listen i know TNG is deeply enjoyable & very important to me / super nostalgic (it's the one i watched the most growing up) & TOS is the original & we wouldn't have anything without it (also i had no idea how much i'd love it, i love the movies too) & Voyager is [checks notes] there? lmfao i'm kidding Voyager is stupid fun & also very nostalgic for me & there's stuff i do love about it

but i don't even think it's a gun to my head situation anymore, DS9 is so completely my favorite. i used to be like "oh i couldn't pick between the series i've seen they're all so different" but now i'm just like. DS9. give me DS9.

me in 1987 - star trek the next generation RULES, this show is doing things i've never imagined, i love it

a bunch of wierd nerds for the last 30 years - wow s1 of tng is ROUGH compared to the later show

me for 30 years without regular access to rewatch the older episodes - well i have no reason to doubt them, i was six when farpoint aired

me now, going back and loving s1+2 for how fkn WIERD they are compared to how formal the structure of the later seasons became - man what the hell, i was right the first time, this absolutely rules
