3/30/24.
I've always wondered the backstory on Zaius Tapes (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania). I bought Camp One and the Buntingford Long Playing Record through Siltbreeze Records, but knew that the ultimate source was Zaius Tapes.
Mystery solved with the new Zaius release "Scaling Triangles". The Bandcamp notes are attributed to none other than:
Bupi Ramadhani Tanzania's #1 acknowledged periodontist Esnan Dental Center Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
The notes give background to Bupi's late 1970s/early 1980s UK life. He heard the Scaling Triangles three band LP and loved it. The release is comprised of The Petticoats, Sole Sister, and Sub Verse. The Petticoats really remind me of Young Marble Giants or Preschool (check out the song on the great "Hot, Sick, Vile and Fun" compilation on Rocks In Your Head Records). All the bands on "Scaling Triangles" have a minimal, vocal-centric feel.
This compilation is again available through Siltbreeze Records.
