Meta buys stake in Scale AI, raising antitrust concerns
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/meta-buys-stake-in-scale-ai-raising-antitrust-concerns/
Meta buys stake in Scale AI, raising antitrust concerns
Meta’s $14.8 billion investment in Scale AI – and the hiring of the startup’s CEO – is drawing attention to how US regulators will handle acquihire-style deals under the Trump administration.
The deal gives Meta a 49% nonvoting stake in Scale AI, which hires gig workers to label training data for AI systems. Scale’s clients include Microsoft and OpenAI, two of Meta’s main competitors in the AI space.
Because Meta hasn’t bought a controlling share, the deal avoided automatic antitrust review. But regulators could still examine it if they believe the structure was designed to sidestep scrutiny or hurt competition.
Access and fairness concerns
Some early signs of fallout have already surfaced. Google, one of Scale’s customers, reportedly cut ties with the company after Meta’s stake was announced. Others are said to be reconsidering their contracts.
In response, a spokesperson for Scale said the company’s work remains strong and that it’s committed to protecting customer data. They declined to comment on Google’s decision.
Alexandr Wang, Scale’s 28-year-old founder and CEO, will join Meta as part of the deal. He’ll stay on Scale’s board but won’t have full access to company information, according to people familiar with the arrangement.
Regulatory outlook under Trump
The Trump administration has taken a lighter approach to AI regulation. Officials have said they don’t want to interfere with how AI develops, though they’ve also voiced doubts about the power held by large tech companies.
William Kovacic, a law professor at George Washington University, said regulators are likely watching AI deals closely, even if they’re not blocking them. “It doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll step in, but they’ll keep a close eye on what these firms do,” he said.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been looking into similar deals over the past two years. Under the Biden administration, the FTC opened inquiries into Amazon’s hiring of key talent from AI firm Adept and Microsoft’s $650 million deal with Inflection AI, which gave it access to the company’s models and staff.
Amazon’s deal closed without further action, and the FTC hasn’t taken public steps against Microsoft, although a broader investigation into the company continues.
Legal edges and political pressure
Some legal experts say Meta’s approach may reduce its legal exposure. David Olson, an antitrust law professor at Boston College, said a nonvoting minority stake offers “a lot of protection,” though he noted that the FTC could still investigate the deal if it raises concerns.
Not everyone is convinced the deal is harmless. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who has been pushing for tighter oversight of AI partnerships, said the Meta investment should be reviewed closely. “Meta can call this deal whatever it wants,” she said. “But if it breaks the law by cutting competition or making it easier for Meta to dominate, regulators should step in.”
Meta is facing an antitrust lawsuit filed by the FTC over claims it built a monopoly through acquisitions and platform control. It’s unclear whether the agency will also examine its involvement with Scale.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice is digging into Google’s AI investments. According to Bloomberg, the DOJ is reviewing Google’s partnership with Character.AI to see if it was structured to dodge antitrust review. Officials are also pushing for a rule that would force Google to disclose new AI investments ahead of time.
A wider pattern
The Meta-Scale deal fits into a broader trend of tech companies using investments and talent deals to lock in access to key AI tools and people – without triggering full-scale antitrust reviews.
As more money moves into AI and more partnerships form, regulators will have to decide whether these deals are legitimate business decisions or attempts to skirt the rules. For now, the answer may depend on how much power a company gains – even without buying control.

Front Brake Speed Sensor Kits for Drag Racing – Strange Engineering

Drag racing is a competitive sport, and using quality adjustment tools is crucial to staying ahead of your competition. Small adjustments need to be made carefully in the car so that it can provide the maximum benefits in the competition. Front Brake Speed Sensor Kit is one of those important small adjustments that should not be neglected. This component plays an important role in providing stability to the driver while doing drag racing.
The Value of Front Wheel Data
Drag racing isn’t just about speed—it’s about control and consistency. Most racers are familiar with rear wheel sensors, but adding a sensor to the front brakes offers unique insights. These kits track front wheel rotation during launch and braking, offering data that helps diagnose traction issues, brake timing, and suspension behavior.
This forward-looking approach allows teams to understand how their cars behave at the most critical points of a run. Without it, you're missing half the story.
Designed for the Track, Built for Abuse
Race environments are punishing. Heat, high RPMs, vibration, and abrupt force changes mean that only the toughest components survive. That’s why selecting sensor kits designed for racing, not adapted from street vehicles, is crucial.
High-grade materials and motorsport-focused designs ensure these sensors can deliver clean, uninterrupted signals every run. From sealed wiring to strong mounting hardware, durability isn’t optional—it’s expected.
Installation and Compatibility Matter
A solid sensor is only as good as its installation. Alignment, spacing, and secure mounting are key to avoiding signal errors or component wear. Quality kits offer user-friendly setup options that work seamlessly with major data acquisition systems.
Once in place, a properly installed sensor kit will begin generating actionable insights immediately. Fewer adjustments, faster calibration, and better accuracy mean more time fine-tuning performance, and less time troubleshooting.
Smarter Data Leads to Smarter Decisions
What makes these kits so powerful is the ability to reveal patterns drivers can’t feel. For instance, consistent early deceleration on one wheel may indicate imbalance or hidden chassis issues. Without this feedback, teams might continue tuning around a problem they didn’t know existed.
By integrating this information with other data sources, teams can refine setup decisions that impact every launch, shift, and braking point.
Why Front Sensors Are Gaining Popularity
Front brake speed sensors have become more common in top-tier racing, not because of a trend, but because of results. Racers who embrace this technology often find themselves one step ahead—predicting problems, dialing in performance, and maintaining mechanical health better than those relying on guesswork.
With any racing tool, there is a matter of quality. Drag-specific kits tested in actual track conditions provide unparalleled reliability and value.
A Trusted Source for Race-Grade Components
This is where Strange Engineering continues to set the standard. Known for delivering parts that hold up under extreme pressure, they offer Front Brake Speed Sensor Kits that racers trust for performance and longevity. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a seasoned pro, having dependable data from the front wheels can be the edge you’ve been missing.
Conclusion
When you're racing for every hundredth of a second, trusted feedback becomes very important for your progress. A front brake speed sensor kit is an investment, yes, but the insights it provides can be life-changing. In a sport where control is speed, it's the silent data that tends to speak the loudest.

Why VMS Systems Are Vital for Managing the Contingent Workforce and Scaling Direct Sourcing Recruitment

In today’s fast-moving talent market, companies are increasingly relying on contingent workers—freelancers, contractors, consultants, and gig professionals—to meet project-based demands and fill critical skill gaps. Managing this flexible workforce requires more than spreadsheets and email chains. That’s where a Vendor Management System (VMS) comes into play.
A VMS system is a centralized platform that streamlines the way organizations manage their contingent workforce, engage staffing vendors, and ensure compliance. It plays a crucial role in driving efficiency, reducing costs, and enabling smarter hiring decisions—especially when paired with direct sourcing recruitment strategies.
What Is a VMS System?
A VMS system is software designed to manage every step of the external workforce lifecycle, from vendor onboarding and job requisitions to time tracking, invoicing, and performance evaluation. It provides a transparent view of your entire contingent workforce operation—whether you’re working with multiple vendors or directly sourcing your talent.
A good VMS system offers:
Centralized vendor and worker database
Real-time performance analytics
Automated workflows for approvals and invoicing
Integrated compliance and audit tracking
Role-based access for procurement, HR, and hiring managers
This kind of visibility is crucial in industries like IT, healthcare, manufacturing, and logistics where contingent labor forms a large part of the workforce.
Managing the VMS Contingent Workforce
The VMS contingent workforce refers to all temporary or non-payroll workers who are managed through a Vendor Management System. By consolidating all vendor and talent data into one dashboard, companies can quickly track labor costs, monitor compliance, and make strategic sourcing decisions.
Benefits include:
Improved visibility: Know who’s working, where, and at what cost.
Compliance assurance: Ensure vendors and workers meet legal and policy requirements.
Cost control: Avoid overbilling and negotiate better vendor terms.
Faster onboarding: Automate paperwork and approval flows.
A VMS system acts as a bridge between procurement, HR, and staffing vendors—making sure everyone is aligned and accountable.
Powering Direct Sourcing Recruitment with a VMS
Direct sourcing recruitment is the practice of leveraging your company’s brand and internal tools to source and engage contingent talent—without third-party staffing agencies. This model reduces cost per hire and gives you more control over candidate quality.
When integrated with a VMS system, direct sourcing becomes even more powerful. You can:
Build and maintain a private talent pool
Automatically match requisitions with pre-vetted candidates
Track direct sourcing performance alongside vendor-sourced hires
Easily switch between sourcing channels based on cost and availability
In essence, your VMS system becomes the control center for both vendor-led and direct sourcing recruitment.
Why This Matters Now
As businesses face uncertain markets and evolving workforce models, agility is key. Companies need scalable solutions to manage hybrid workforces that include full-time employees, freelancers, and everything in between.
Investing in a VMS system enables you to:
Scale contingent hiring without administrative chaos

it weekend now so i cant continue fiddling around with it (and most likely i wont have much time for fancy projects next week) but i was so excited to install a usb sniffer on the windows computer and see what the traffic to the spectrometer looks like. and then the stupid driver issue happened!!
#tütensuppe#also slightly worrying that the singular person ive talked to about this project#(one of the spectrometer users. not fluent in control system or the more techy stuff)#seems very convinced that this is going to work. which i am very much not im just playing around at this point#i can retrieve usb identification info (like serial number connection speed device model etc)#but the attempts at functional communication a) returned numbers i cant parse b) im not even sure what i DID there#i replugged it this morning but ran what i thought was an initializing command before#and it started audibly moving something inside so i think i was accessing the slits/shutter instead#in the long run it WOULD be preferable to integrate it into the control system but my skills are questionable...#aside from the driver issue it would also help w the work bc you can make properties record the history#rn apparently they have to manually record what settings they use when and if someone forgets you can throw out the data.#plus: less clunky remote control and easy integration into their data acquisition tool#it would be SO COOL but its harder than expected weh weh

When Drag Queens Were King
With the conflicts about LGBTQIA+, it is fascinating to look back at the history of gays in American history. Once, not only accepted but widely celebrated, drag was a prominent face in the entertainment industry.
During the Shakespearean period, in the late 16th century and early 17th century, women were not permitted to perform on the stage. Men played the female roles. While this wasn’t exactly “drag”, it’s possible gay men took advantage of the opportunity to express their feminine sides.
Originally, drag was not only applied to men performing while dressed as women but, any performer dressed in costumes other than their own gender. In fact, the first recorded drag contest and “ball” in America took place in 1867! Men and women performed in Harlem, New York. There were drag queens and drag kings. Notable during the 1880’s and 1890’s was William Dorsey Swann. Known as the Queen of Drag, Dorsey was more than just a drag queen. An African American, born into slavery, was known for holding secret drag balls. The “Queen of Drag”, Swann, is believed to be the first person in the United States to lead a gay resistance. He held secret drag balls in Washington, DC. One part of the drag balls included a competition known as a “cakewalk”, originally held on plantations by slaves. Couples would dance in precise steps and formation. It is believed to have been a way to subtly make fun of the formal white dances pre and post emancipation. As dance contests, the winners were awarded with cakes!

The Jazz Age (from 1920 - early 1930’s) in large cities like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco saw the popularity of drag performers rise. Minstrel shows, vaudeville, and burlesque provided drag entertainment. Unlike many drag performers, Jean (Gene) Malin was not trying to impersonate a woman. During Prohibition, the days of the “pansy craze”, Malin was openly gay and proud of it. Described as flamboyant and effeminate, he entertained audiences with a wonderful sense of humor. At six feet tall and two hundred pounds, Malin had a lisp that delighted his fans. He was capable of defending himself when needed. He performed in high end nightclubs and was featured in films and on Broadway.

In 1920 Drag Balls and contests were so popular they were even represented in film. Men were referred to as “pansies” or “sissies” and were often portrayed as clothing designers or tailors, hairdressers, or choreographers and dancers. Flamboyant and effeminate, they added humor to films. Women were portrayed as more masculine and dressed in male fashions.
There were actors and actresses who were known to be homosexual, if not to the general public, usually within their professional circles. In 1930’s, Marlene Dietrich, who made no secret of her bisexuality, had the first passionate same sex kiss in a film. However, that wasn’t the first same sex kiss in film. In 1922, Cecil B. DeMille directed a silent movie l, “Manslaughter”, that included an orgy. Although the first same sex kiss has been attributed to the later film, “Wings” in 1927, it was the earlier silent movie that broke the mold.

Drag has once again become popular in America with shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race. On the other hand, the country is in turmoil. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual+ (LGBTQIA+) community is already beginning to feel the change in the air, from the White House to every house, apartment, mobile home, hotel, or tent. The president has already signed several executive orders that will negatively impact LGBTQIA+ communities across the country. We can’t allow America to return to days of the Hays Code. We’ve too far to allow it to slip away.

Salesforce to buy Informatica in $8B deal
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/salesforce-to-buy-informatica-in-8b-deal/
Salesforce to buy Informatica in $8B deal
Salesforce has agreed to acquire data management firm Informatica in a deal valued at around $8 billion. This includes equity value, minus Salesforce’s existing investment in the company. Informatica shareholders will receive $25 in cash per share.
The move aims to help Salesforce build a stronger foundation for AI tools that can act on their own, often called agentic AI. Informatica’s software is known for helping businesses collect, manage, and organise large sets of data – the kind of support Salesforce needs to improve its AI systems’ work in different business applications.
The deal brings together tools for organising and cleaning data (like Master Data Management and data integration) with Salesforce’s cloud platform. The idea is to make sure any AI features running on Salesforce have access to organised and secure data.
For companies using AI in daily operations, having the right data isn’t enough. They also need to know where that data came from, how it has been changed, and whether it can be trusted. That’s where Informatica’s tools come in with benefits such as:
Transparency: Informatica can show how data flows through systems, helping companies meet audit or regulatory needs.
Context: By combining Informatica’s metadata with Salesforce’s data models, AI agents will better understand how to connect the dots in business systems.
Governance: Features like data quality controls and policy settings help make sure AI systems rely on clean and consistent data.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said the acquisition supports the company’s goal of building safe and responsible AI for business use. “We’re excited to acquire Informatica … Together, we’ll supercharge Agentforce, Data Cloud, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360,” Benioff said.
Informatica CEO Amit Walia said joining Salesforce will help more businesses make better use of their data.
How this helps Salesforce’s data products
Informatica’s cloud tools will plug directly into Salesforce’s core products:
Data cloud: Informatica will help ensure data collected is trustworthy and ready to use – not just gathered in one place.
Agentforce: AI agents should be able to make smarter decisions with cleaner data and better understanding of business context.
Customer 360: Salesforce CRM tools will gain data inputs, helping sales and support teams.
MuleSoft: With Informatica’s data quality and governance tools, the data passing through MuleSoft APIs should be more reliable.
Tableau: Users of Tableau will benefit from more detailed information, as the data behind the dashboards should be better organised and easier to understand.
Steve Fisher, President and CTO at Salesforce, explained the value: “Imagine an AI agent that goes beyond simply seeing data points to understand their full context – origin, transformation, quality, and governance.”
Salesforce plans to bring Informatica’s technology into its existing systems quickly after the deal closes. This includes integrating data quality, governance, and MDM features into Agentforce and Data Cloud.
The company also said it will continue to support Informatica’s current strategy to build AI-driven data tools for use in different cloud environments.
Informatica acquisition aligns with Salesforce’s strategy
Salesforce executives described the acquisition as part of a long-term plan.
Robin Washington, President and CFO, said the company targets deals like this one when it sees a clear fit for customers and a solid financial return. “We’re laser-focused on accelerated execution,” she said, pointing to sectors like government, healthcare, and finance, where the combined tools could have most impact.
Informatica’s chairman Bruce Chizen said the deal shows how long-term investment strategies can pay off. He credited private equity backers Permira and CPP Investments for their role in guiding the company toward this outcome.
Salesforce also said it plans to invest in Informatica’s partner network and apply its own sales and marketing muscle to grow Informatica’s cloud business further.
Deal terms and next steps
The boards of both companies have approved the transaction. Shareholders representing about 63% of Informatica’s voting shares have signed off and no further votes are needed. The deal is expected to close early in Salesforce’s 2027 fiscal year, pending regulatory approval and other conditions.
Salesforce will pay for the deal using a mix of cash and new debt. The company expects the deal to add to its non-GAAP earnings, margin, and cash flow starting in the second year after closing. It does not plan to change its shareholder return plans as a result of the acquisition.

Most IT Projects Fail: 75% of Projects Fall Short of Goals

IT projects are not always successful—such is the price of innovation. Yet, depending on the source, up to 85% of these projects fail, which seems astronomical. In contrast to other industries, developing information technology solutions has not decreased its failure rate over the past 20 years. The question is, what are the causes, and what can companies do to improve? Why is the failure rate so high, and what are possible strategies to reduce it? And what are the specific challenges of archiving legacy data?
IT projects often fail: not at AvenDATA
Failure is difficult to measure in IT. Many factors determine the success of a project, but there is no industry-wide terminology. According to German analysts, about half of all IT projects fail. Industry experts, noting the high number of unreported cases, put the failure rate for German companies at around 75%. This seems excessive, but Germany still performs better than many other countries.
According to the PMI Global Project Management Survey 2017, software projects in particular are notorious for falling short. A total of 14% are cancelled without any results, 31% do not meet their objectives, 43% exceed their budget and 49% exceed the agreed timeframe. Only 15% of projects are delivered as planned.
Since 1995, the CHAOS Report of the Standish Group has collected new numbers from the IT industry every two years. In 2015, only 15% of the cases examined were found to have successfully completed the project. Although this study refers to software development projects specifically, it provides an indication for the IT industry in general. Encouragingly, the report found that 66% of IT projects in Germany were generally successful. However, 19% were over budget, behind schedule or had limited functionality. 15% were considered a complete failure and were either cancelled without results or never used again.
Last year, AvenDATA was an outlier among German IT service providers regarding its success rate. The company was successful both in terms of budget and timeframe. This result is particularly interesting because legacy systems are responsible for a wide range of potential risks in corporate IT.
According to CEO Emanuel Böminghaus, target-oriented project management is the key to the company’s success: “All projects are budgeted with a fixed price in advance. Therefore, we are very interested in completing the projects on time and free of any errors”.
Why IT projects fail
A study by BITKOM e.V. found that 75% of all IT projects fail due to errors in the set-up phase. According to the study, the most common reasons for the failure of IT projects are unclear or inadequate requirements, incorrect time and budget planning, and inadequate communication between project participants. This is consistent with surveys conducted by the German Association of IT Users (VOICE e.V.).
This mismatch inevitably leads to an increasing number of organizations with legacy systems. It is therefore not surprising that 59 per cent of respondents believes that failures are likely to occur within the next three years. Respondents believe that legacy system failures will have a significant impact on the IT supply chain and business operations. This suggests that there is a growing need to refresh systems. Cloud technology is currently the best way to do this.
