“Los Lobos Native Sons” to be Released in 2025
- Trailer spotlights 50 years of “truly one of the best musical groups ever formed”
Edward James Olmos spares no superlative in praising Los Lobos.
“Truly one of the best musical groups ever formed,” he says. “You could put the Stones. You could put the Beatles. They’re right there - right in the same vein.”
Olmos is speaking in the trailer for “Los Lobos Native Sons,” a feature-length documentary coming in 2025 and documenting 50 years since the band’s 1973 founding.
“Our goal is to expose music as far as we possibly can to take it,” a young Louie Pérez says in one of the clip’s many archival sequences, “to different parts of the United States, Mexico, the world if possible.”
Soundtracked with “Will the Wolf Survive?,” “La Bamba” and “Native Son,” the trailer shows Pérez, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin doing just that as they transform from young upstarts to grey veterans. George Lopez, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Cheech Marin and others appear in the film.
“David, Ceaser, Conrad, Louie and Steve, it’s amazing what they are able to create together,” Tom Waits says.

Moonrise, Moonset
Let me say that I’m disappointed to lose “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur”, the cleverest and coolest show on the active DTVA roster by several orders of magnitude. I’m still bitter that there may forever be a “lost episode” of this show that may never see an official broadcast. And I remain suspicious that the cancellation of this series had less to do with Disney+ ratings and more to do with it being too black and too “woke” for a corporate media conglomerate operating in a far-right sociopolitical environment.
Even so, MGADD got a far better send-off than some other Disney cartoons (e.g., “The Owl House” and “Hailey’s On It!”). Lunella and her show received a hero’s farewell, but the writers took care to give solid landings to some of its side characters, and even a few former antagonists. The Beyonder completed his mission to understand humanity and, in doing so, found both friendship and family. The Good Word Warriors moved beyond mere rehabilitation to become the new defenders of the Lower East Side. Lunella’s family has fully accepted her superhero identity, even though it’s taken all of them into unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable territory. Casey, having honed her management skills working with Lunella, is preparing to expand her services to cover an entire superhero team. Every plot line, every character arc, has been neatly packaged and tied up with a pretty bow. Or… has it?
The series finale doesn’t entirely close the door; it leaves room for a potential return. It’s implied that while Moon Girl and Devil’s mission with S.H.I.E.L.D. will run until question marks, it will eventually end. This is not “goodbye forever”, but “goodbye for now” in preparation for a new adventure. Perhaps the production team has created an opening for a TV movie or a special focusing on her work with S.H.I.E.L.D. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a built-in opportunity for Lunella’s return, and one for the series itself, someday when the political climate is more welcoming. Note that daydream sequence in the opening of the finale that shows Moon Girl honored at the White House, which IRL is currently occupied by people who would take this series right off the air (and in a way, perhaps they did). Is it wishful thinking, or is someone trying to tell us something?
Regardless, I want to thank everyone who made this series the earthshaker and ass-kicker it was. Steve Loter, Jeffrey M. Howard, and Kate Kondell, the developers. Pilar Flynn and Steve again, the showrunners. Diamond White and Fred Tatasciore for bringing its titular duo to life. The legendary Alfre Woodard and Laurence Fishburne, alongside Sasheer Zamata, Jermaine Fowler, Gary Anthony Williams, and Libe Barer. Then there’s the veritable galaxy of amazing regular and cameo guest VAs. Seriously, it says something when such a variety of personalities as Jennifer Hudson, Kari Wahlgren, Mae Jemison, Method Man, Wesley Snipes, Edward James Olmos, Chuck D, Angela Bassett, Bowen Yang, Indya Moore, Jackée Harry, Carol Kane, Cynthia Erivo, Cree Summer, David Tennant, and Arsenio Hall all offer their talents to an animated children's show. Finally, there’s the team of writers, episode directors, and storyboarders that made this show what it was. Basically, I want to thank everyone who had a hand in bringing us such a powerful and brilliant series—except, of course, the suits who stood in its way.
