Match Review: Athletic Club 0-3 Manchester United

Ah this was a mint game. The stats below show our dominance.

United went 1-0 up after half an hour thanks to the magic wing play of... Harry Maguire. The fuck? He slow-mo skinned the defender, twice, whips in a cross to Ugarte, who nods on to Casemiro and heads it home.

Amad rightly ripped him with this meme above, and Onana had him as the original Ronaldo with the stupid fringe-only 😂

Five minutes later and Dani Vivian was sent off for a foul in the box, adjudged by VAR to have denied a goalscoring opportunity for Rasmus Hojlund and - through not attempting to play the ball - the letter of the law said they had to be red carded.

Vivian immediately got in the face of Hojlund who protested whilst sat in the box, and karma was fun watching his disbelief at the dismissal.

Up steps captain cool to bury the penalty, and it's 2-0 United away in the hostile Estadio de San Mamés - with so many home fans all wearing the home shirt to try and encourage their side.

It wasn't enough though, and the 10 men succumbed to a third goal just before half time: a scramble near the Bilbao box saw Ugarte back heel / back roll a ball through for Bruno to run onto and tuck past the keeper. 3-0, and the semi final was looking almost done.

United's fault, if anything, was not scoring in the second half to put the tie to bed good and proper. There's still a job to be done at Old Trafford on Thursday. That being said, Amorim was able to rotate a bit for fitness and safety.

Lets see if we can't get the job done next Thursday. Up the Reds.

Ohhhh this so hard to answer! First, yeah I totally get that. I wouldn't recommend anyone watch Athletic because it's truly a... team. But I really do love them all, for so many different reasons. I'll give you a few of my favorites (besides Unai Simon, I feel like that's pretty obvious heh.)

Oihan Sancet.

The eight ball of Athletic. Their little playmaker and dirty little bastard (affectionate). Always has a smile that becomes creepy when he sports the mustache. Tits out, even in freezing weather. Will ABSOLUTELY spring a boner after scoring. And alarmingly always in the press for either bizarre rumors or because of injury. Outside of Athletic, he doesn't get a lot of love because of how injury prone he is, but... 22 matches, 13 goals speak volumes. Of course, I'm not a numbers person, but for someone who was pretty reckless and childish on the field a year ago, he's doing much better this season. The kind of player that makes you smack your forehead, but the kind of player that is really lovely to watch because you remember how he started, and watching him grow is really special.

The Williams Brothers (Iñaki, specific.)

Obviously Nico gets so much love for being in Spain's NT and it's deserved but Iñaki is phenomenal too. He's getting up there in age, and it's tough to think how there's a day he may not be starting as frequently as he is, but until then, that's captain. He's solid and uplifting. He's a true lion. He doesn't care what team you're on: if you're facing racism, he's standing up with you. Reposted when Balde got those inflammatory comments, and if I'm not mistaken, that's not the first time he's stood with rivals in the face against hate. Defends all the other Black players on Athletic, and has never shied away from putting health first and repping that Basque identity. Amazing baller, Athletic legend. And when he's linking up with Nico on the field: it's magic.

Dani Vivian.

My man stepped the fuck UP when Iñigo Martinez left. No hate to Iñigo at all, but after his departure, the back line was shaky. Watching him fill the gap during this season has been incredible. Better with each match. Mind you, the rest of the back is several years older than him, but it's very clear that once Iñigo left, Dani took over the reigns. I literally, as a human who is only watching on the screen, feel safer when he's on the grass. He scores the occasional beautiful header, and he's a fantastic defender. Yeray is 30 and Yuri is 35, so the Athletic defense will need revamping but Dani Vivian takes on so much onto his shoulders, it's no wonder he recently got the call up to Spain and I'm proud of him.

Julen Agirrezabala.

Athletic's certified cutie pie and second shotstopper for the Basques. Humble king that should have flexed after stopping certain penalties, but simply said, "I just studied his penalties" and left the press sighing dreamily after him. Is not afraid to go visit Unai on the bench and ask for tips and not afraid to then ride Unai's shoulders while parading around Bilbao because he got them their first trophy in 40 years. Awful music taste but he gets a pass because all he does is repost pictures and stops shots. Maybe that's why his skin's so flawless.

Honorable Mentions:

Adama Boiro: a baby, first season at Athletic, but is already fitting in really well and definitely will be a future starter in the backline.

Álex Berenguer: Nico came into the club and took over the left wing, and Álex Berenguer literally said, "Okay, I guess I'll just become an attacking midfielder instead" and then did that. Leaves you spinning. Has some bizarre mental connection with Sancet. Recently became a dad, which is very AHHH.

Yuri Berchiche: Gramps of Athletic, but still signed for another year because he is that bitch. Went to Europe for a hot minute, immediately won trophies and still turned the fuck back around to Basque country, where he's loved and adored and cherished. Sick tattoos, including one on his neck that I would love to lick. see in person.

Sorry this was so long, but yeah! I love them all. I could keep talking about them, but I figure this is long enough for now, haha.

Side note: To keep yourself safe from harrassment from antis, fellow proshippers, I suggest blocking all people who use the tags, ‘proshitter’ ‘anti proship’ and ‘safeshipping.’ But also make sure to check if these people have pinned posts that may list other side blogs and mutuals and to block those as well. 

Furthermore, you may want to keep in your drafs the posts from antis to block at least one anti daily that has reblogged another anti's posts. This is what I do which is probably how I have avoided a lot of hate. That and I also block any and all antis that appear in the proship tags due to tumblr's tagging system.

You mentioned that Vlad!Clone-Dani needed a name (in your notes, I think). According to Wikipedia. "Vlad is a Romanian male given name. It is more commonly a nativized hypocorism of Vladislav and can also be used as a surname."

The feminine version of Vladislav is Vladislava. So maybe that? Jury's out on whether she'd like that name or whether she'd insist on being referred to as something else.

(We are discussing this post) You're the third person to suggest Vladislava! The other suggestions were: Vivian, Viorica, Valentina, Maddie, and Madison (shortened to Madi, so it's reminiscent of Dani).

I genuinely don't know which I like the most lol. The safest bet may be to give her a hyphenated name or a middle name, so then we get the best of both.

So I guess the question now is:
