King Push: Pusha T Drops New Track “Diet Coke” & Twitter Highly Approves

Pusha T last blessed the world with an album with 2018’s Daytona, fully produced by Ye aka Kanye West. The king of coke bars is back with a new track titled “Diet Coke,” reuniting with Yeezy and 88-Keys, and already it appears to be a Twitter favorite. 

After a snippet of the track began circulating online by way of Victor Victor Worldwide boss Steven Victor, the hype around the track began to bubble. Most were stunned to see that Pusha T and Ye were together in the clip after chatter that Push was no longer involved with the G.O.O.D. Music label, but those rumors were shut down last month.

In the wee hours of Tuesday morning (Feb. 8),  “Diet Coke” went wide with Push and 88-Keys having a lot of fun on Twitter engaging with fans and discussing reactions. Push even took a dig at himself after Spotify’s Carl Chery tweeted, “Pusha T coming up with new coke references will never get old.”

Push fired back with, “Welp this album is abt feeding the conscious mind, I hope you aren’t disappointed…I’m growing up Carl.”

Suffice it to say, “Diet Coke” mostly references the narcotic of note during the addictive chorus from Push but much of the track is just the Virginia rapper flexing his verbal muscles.

Los mejores albums de 2022.

Por un momento pensé hacer un recap con las movidas que han pasado en el spanish rap y sus satélites este año pero al final me ha dado pereza porque es siempre la misma mierda, el 2023 será igual y como dije el año pasado, no me quiero convertir en el nuevo Terapias. Así que voy a hacer lo que siempre he hecho en internet desde que empecé con el bloggin’ allá por 2009, difundir buena música de la mejor manera que sé y que de paso de gusto leerlo y os llevéis algo para casa. Para esta ocasión he decidido invitar a gente que no suele publicar sus listas y que considero heads/melómanos con criterio y buen gusto para que me digan sus proyectos favoritos de 2022, creo que os puede resultar tan interesante como a mí.

Me ha parecido un grandísimo año para el rap a nivel de albums, he tenido que dejar fuera algunos bastante buenos. En cuanto a EP’s también hubo un nivel altísimo, sobre todo de R&B. Aquí me gustaría hacer un inciso ya que creo que el género en España está a las puertas de su mejor momento, la cantidad de artistas emergentes sacando lanzamientos de calidad es increíble pero como siempre pasa hace falta público que respalde ese esfuerzo y sepa valorarlo, da la impresión de que no termina de cuajar en España y de que hay que virar hacia ritmos latinos o reggaeton haciendo mestizajes, que a veces salen bien y de manera orgánica y natural ( Magua Con Miel ), pero da pena porque de verdad creo que puede ser exitoso y mainstream en su forma más pura. Interesante esto que comentó Maikel Delacalle.

Empezamos con mis top de mejores albums internacionales, EP’s y discos en español, todo está entre el 7- 8/10 para mí (si queréis bucear más aquí está mi hilo con cosas que se han quedado fuera). Por último va la lista de invitados y sus picks. El año que viene más ( o menos ) pero seguiré dando por saco. Arriba el nerdismo.

1. Pusha T - It's Almost Dry

Gran ejercicio de rap del GOAT de Virginia. Su voz y cadencia es tan potente y estilosa que funciona como otro instrumento y luce mejor con beats minimalistas, por eso, aunque Pharrell y Kanye & esbirros están lejos de su prime, él destaca. Y ojo, son produs sin grandes florituras pero THIS SHIT BANGS. Suena todo durísimo, está muy bien curado y trabajado. Rock N Roll es top songs 2022, una locura, tremendo banger a pachas entre 2 leyendas de la producción, me flipa el tratamiento de las voces de Cudi y Ye. El nivel de produs aquí, aún con inspirados momentos ( Brambleton ), está lejos de ‘Hell Hath No Fury’. La ejecución de Pusha es casi perfecta, as always. “Like Brady, gets better with time Didn’t have to reinvent the wheel, just a better design.” Al final es eso, es la vaina que siempre ha hecho pero con una ejecución y diseño casi perfectos, más largo que 'Daytona' y mejor empaquetado que 'Darkest Before Dawn' o 'MNYMN'.

2. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future

El primer trabajo que me gusta de este man, aquí se deja las típicas movidas rapper y se centra en él, es muy introspectivo y las produs, a excepción de algún trap banger, van por ese mood íntimo. Sonido dispar, no disperso. Hay mucho piano, suaves voces femeninas y ritmos tranquilos, me quedo con las texturas de The Smell Of Death con asistencia de Thundercat, el drum n'bass fresquísimo de Zatoichi, o las jazzys y predominantes Mental, The Ills, o Melt Session 1. Fresco y alternativo. Y otra cosa, creo que es la primera vez que este nuevo formato deluxe eleva aún más el contenido del trabajo ya hecho, las versiones con banda de jazz suenan increíbles, me las he gozado muchísimo, espero que sienta precedente, desde luego prefiero esto antes que leftovers.

3. Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes

Por fin ve la luz este esperado junte cuyo primigenio título allá por los 2000's fue 'Dangerous Thoughts'. Aunque es un GOAT incuestionable, necesitaba un LP en solitario así de grande. Danger Mouse ha resultado ser el compañero ideal. Es otra leyenda en sí misma que no producía un LP de rap desde 2005. Le otorga un aire soul vintage y classy emulando samples con coros grabados como los de Kiwanuka, Kid Sister o Dylan Cartridge. El MC de The Roots está inmenso, quizás mucha colabo y pocos 3rd verse. He encontrado ciertos paralelismos con el último de ATCQ, me han provocado sensaciones parecidas, como ese verse póstumo de MF DOOM ( y los de Phife en el otro ) que parece que lo grabó hace 1 mes y aún sigue vivo de lo bien que encaja. El tocho de Raekwon también es top. Y sobre todo que parece que trae de vuelta cierto "Hip Hop feeling" inconfundible que no se estila mucho estos días. Pelos de punta nada más darle al track 1. Creo que podría haber sido hasta mejor. Mejor producido que sus últimos EPs.

4. Jay Worthy, Larry June & LNDN DRGS - 2 P‘z In A Pod

Sonido lujoso, hay g-funk con sintes 80s y produs aterciopeladas como Hotel Bel Air que son una bomba. Raps desenfadados, West Coast lifestyle, en la línea de lo que vienen haciendo siempre. Mola mucho, perfecto para bumpear.

5. Sabrina Claudio - Based On A Feeling

Voz privilegiada que transmite emoción y sensualidad como pocas, algo así como un cruce entre Sade y Jorja Smith. Producción finísima, jazzy, relajante y delicada. Make Neo Soul Great Again. Si no la habéis visto en muchos top es porque hace unos años salieron a la luz tweets racistas suyos y anda medio cancelada, todo hay que decirlo.

6. Larry June - Spaceships On The Blade

Tiene un buen bumpeo, en su contra juega que sean 20 tracks con un desfile de producers numeroso (15), eso le quita solidez, por eso me gustan más sus 2 anteriores LPs, aunque fue ganando con las escuchas y ya no estoy tan seguro. Es otro discazo fresquísimo, igual de magnético y natural que siempre, mi soundtrack del pasado verano.

7. Roc Marciano & The Alchemist - The Elephant Man's Bones

En la primera escucha ya tiene ese aire místico de disco de culto. Ritmos sombríos, orfebrería del sampling, Al experimenta, no va a tiro hecho como en Alfredo, ambos se dejan ir. Es muy jazz en ese sentido, toma riesgos, se nota que han querido hacer algo así de libre, es algo abstracto en ocasiones, Bitches Brew rap. Roc está igual de bien que siempre con su estilo gélido, su wordplay y su delivery. Las interpolaciones vocales de James Brown en Quantum Leap ( vaya beat dios mío ), el sample de piano maravilloso del title track, las baterías duras de Buble Bath, la energía contenida en Daddy Ken ( otro de los standouts, tremendo ), el relato sinuoso de Liquid Coke a lo DOOM. Hay algunas produs aquí de una construcción sublime, Alchemist hace honor a su aka. Album notable pero que para mí no llega al nivel y status de clásico de 'Marcberg' y 'Reloaded'. Lo pondría después de esos con cierta distancia. Incluso 'Alfredo' me gusta más que este. Aunque es un GOAT y uno de los más influyentes ever, la propuesta sonora de Marciano me llegó a cansar en los últimos años y aquí siento algo de eso hacia el final, Zig Zag Zig es la única roca a la que agarrarme de ese trecho, aunque los 2 bonus lo cierran bien.

8. Freddie Gibbs - $oul $old $eparately

Reconozco que al principio me dejó frío, indiferente, me dió la impresión de ser una compilación de tracks mal secuenciada, de trabajo poco cohesionado, pero es un grower, hay muy buenas canciones aquí, Gibbs se luce y demuestra versatilidad. No es un disco que brille demasiado, su grandeza es sutil, Zipper Bagz es la produ menos Kaytranada que he escuchado y CIA de lo más accesible de Madlib últimamente. La colabos de Scarface, Pusha T y Raekwon son algunos de los mejores momentos del game de 2022. No creo que pueda competir con otros LPs bien trabajados y bien pensados que han salido este año porque si que peca algo de lo mencionado anteriormente. Los que hemos escuchado a Gibbs antes de 'Piñata' sabíamos que podía pasar esto. Anyway, es buenísimo.

9. Phony PPL - Euphonyus

El R&B funky fuera de tendencias que necesitábamos. El riff al final de Been Away, los toques dance de Try o , el bridge de Fkn Around ( puentes, puentes, queremos puentes), el solo de saxo de What It Feels Like... Si Earth Wind & Fire tuviesen 20ytantos años ahora sonarían parecido a esto. El mejor grupo que aún no conoces, ya atesoran una discografía bastante admirable. Gracias por traer el groove de vuelta y sobre todo por no hacerlo necesariamente bajo un paraguas 70s sino haciéndolo sonar actual, se puede. Discazo increíble.

10. Alex Isley & Jack Dine - Marigold

10 canciones de Neo Soul/R&B chill y luminoso que entra de lujo. Todo un descubrimiento el de esta mujer y su suave voz. 

11. Kehlani - Blue Water Road

Tras un buen debut, sus posteriores albums me parecieron hechos en piloto automático pero este me ha gustado. R&B cálido y suave, de atmósfera chill, casi terapéutico, más centrado en todos los aspectos, con un songwriting más maduro. ¿Su mejor LP?

12. Curren$y & The Alchemist - Continuance 

Lo que hace Alchemist de adaptarse al sonido de cada MC que produce y siempre con grandes resultados es una de las cosas que le convierten en un top 5 histórico. Un ejercicio de diggin sideral, quiero este junte cada 2 años.

13. Leikeli47 - Shape Up

Daaamnnn esto suena como ‘Hell Hath No Fury 2022′, un golpetazo de aire fresco que buena falta hacía, ni drumless ni jazzy ni trap ni boom bap, contracultura a base de palazos y buen hacer. Una de las mejores releases del año y su incursión neo soul es de mis canciones favoritas así que ojo. The rap shit we love.

14. Smino - Luv 4 Rent

Muy suave, chill y agradable, con un approach sonoro bastante creativo a cargo de Monte Booker, que coordina toda la producción, fusionando géneros. Me gustan sus melodías, su delivery y sus canturreos, se notan influencias de Outkast o Kendrick en el tratamiento de las voces. Nu-Nu-Soul.

15. Mavi - Laughing so Hard, it Hurts 

Wow que bueno es esto. Me flipa como transpira rap indie, esa producción abstracta y a la vez tan accesible ( no como la de Earl o Mike ) logrando plasmar buenas canciones introspectivas y conscious entre un prisma sonoro muy bien logrado. Para mí es una de las sorpresas rap del año porque no tenía fichado su debut ( con el que voy ahora ). Se puede convertir en otra de las voces importantes del ya muy bien nutrido underground yankee.

16. Ari Lennox - age/sex/location

No tenía fichada a esta tía y me ha gustado bastante, tiene un deje a Erykah Badu tanto en su voz como en detalles de la producción pero a la vez se mueve bien en el R&B más canónico. Voz potente y algunas colabos con otras reinas de esto como Chloe y Summer Walker. Produs de Elite, Organized Noize, Cardiak, Jermaine Dupri...Fichajazo del pájaro de J.Cole para su DreamVille, que ya apunta a ser el nuevo TDE.

17. Nas & Hit Boy - King's Disease III

Buen LP, mejor que ‘KD I’ y algo por debajo de ‘KD II’ y ‘Magic’, también es más largo, en los 17 tracks hay momentos increíbles y otros que podrían haber sido recortados. En 52 minutos hay más margen de error, de ahí mi reticencia a meterlos en la misma liga que los "albums" de 20 minutos. Thun,(!!) Reminisce y su desaprovechado cambio de beat, Get Light, First Time, I'm On Fire...no te retires Nasir, super OG .Además, cascarse esa minutada de rapeadas sin colabos, sostener ese peso rozando los 50 años y que el resultado final sea notable es de un mérito enorme. Llamadlo KD4, Magic 2 o como queráis pero seguid haciendo música juntos.

18. Yaya Bey - Remember Your North Star 

Es como si Knxwledge y Chris Keys tuviesen una hija sureña pero que vive en Queens y le tirase al neo soul. Autoproducido, pistas cortas que atraviesan el crisol de la música negra, agradable, intimista y con un mundo interior interesante.

19. JID - The Forever Story

Esto suena muy bien, está lleno de grandes canciones, hay buenas melodías, coros, arreglos de orquesta, es un crisol de música negra, como un hijo perdido de la Dungeon Family, tradición ATL. Un hijo de To Pimp A Butterfly como lo último de Denzel Curry. Toca demasiados palos temáticos y estilísticos para gustar a todo el mundo pero no tiene por qué ser algo malo. El tema es que la secuenciación y montaje del LP no corrige esta ambición de querer abarcar tanto y queda algo deslavazado. Es lo único negativo que le veo. Hay trap, rap y temas cantados en clave neo soul. En el apartado lírico no desentona en ninguno de estos estilos y no queda impostado. Temas como Sistanem o el cierre Lauder Too son top del año. Es lo primero que escucho de él, habrá que seguirle la pista a este man.

20. Billy Woods - Aethiopes

El concepto del album y los temas que trata son increíbles, las lyrics están en un nivel superior, muy ricas y llenas de metáforas y códigos, bien densas, de lo mejor del año. El sonido de Preservation acompaña, muy opresivo y oscuro, Def Jux shit. Lo he metido tan abajo porque para mi tiene escaso replay value, es como Arrebato, una obra maestra pero para ver no más de 2 veces en tu vida.

Girl band de UK y sonido R&B 2000s con ramalazos de Destiny's Child y Aaliyah. 5 canciones que son una bomba tras otra, frescura y descaro, deseando ver el album debut. Hot, fire, put my money on it ( Jay-Z voice ).

3. Girl Ultra - El Sur

Otra joya de la mexicana que sigue apostando por el R&B y aprovechando su cálida voz a la vez que expande horizontes sonoros. De mis trabajos favoritos de lo que va de 2022. Bombay es uno de los hits del año, vaya bomba housera

4. Judeline - de la luz 

Ojo con esto, cosa seria. Esto es demasiado bueno. Vaya voz, vaya letras, vaya pruducción fina ahí, vaya estilazo, que buen gusto. Te deja con ganas de más. Strong Chambao vibes. Ha nacido una estrella.

5. Kali Ninmah - Jazmines y Girasoles

Ya iba tocando algo de Nu Soul/Rap hecho en español. Una bendición de proyecto que desprende aroma 90s y evoca todas esas referencias clásicas del subgénero. Smooth, conscious, lleno de melodías y buen gusto. Rap sin barras  Rookie del año.

6. Nicholas Craven - Craven N 3

Una roca soulful del beatmaker de Montreal que está en estado de gracia últimamente, capaz de sacar lo mejor de cada uno de los MCs que le acompañan aquí, de lo más granado del underground yankee. The rap shit we love.

7. Mach-Hommy & Nicholas Craven - Dump Gawdz: Triz Nate

Craven es top 5 beatmakers del momento y Mach podría ser el MC #1 . Con esa premisa poco más que añadir. También recomendables los otros EP's que sacó el de Haiti este año, Triz Nathaniel y Triz Nathan.

8. Ergo Pro - Ópera Fidelio

7 tracks sólidos en los que afianza ese paso adelante con respecto a Dogma y Bone Fortuna. La griseldada buena de El Manual, la progresiva Aon Wanna Kno, la melódica La Nana De Los Morenos con Aqeel y la mejor estrella invitada que se puede tener, Ill Pekeño y Ergo Pro are the real duo kie.

9. Juli Giuliani - Gotta Do Me 

Vibes veraniegos, arreglos y produs cuidadas ( la de tiempo que hacía que no escuchaba un buen punteo de guitarra en un tema de rap, NERD shit, se agradece ). Hip Hop con luz y buen gusto, que falta hace en el game. 

10. Sabio Sport & MB Casablanca - Port Vauban

Madre mía pero esto como suena así de wavy! La pena es que solo dure 11 minutos, quiero más de esta shit. Rap de yate para los que no tienen yate. Locura.

Con asterisco pues salió el 31 de Diciembre pero tenía que meterlo porque es uno de los ejercicios de rap más técnicos que he visto últimamente en España. Una pasada a nivel lírico, mucho peso y significados en cada barra, sonido gritty y oscuro. The rap shit we love.

1. Choclock - Magua Con Miel

Con 'Bruno' hizo un R&B que bebía ( demasiado ) de fuentes contemporáneas y este nuevo LP tiene más personalidad y cuerpo, produs ricas llenas de vibes. Como el título indica, es nostálgico pero a la vez tiene luz y simpatía, es bonito y descarado. Se siente menos preocupado por la tendencia y el hit. Los skits de Cruzzi a lo Barry White, las outros con cambio de ritmo en algunas canciones, los saxos de Escandaloso Xpósito, los aires a lo JT de Flashbacksss.. Puede que sea el mejor album del género hecho en España, lo he tenido todo el verano en el carro.

2. Hoke & Louis Amoeba - BBO

Tras unos singles prometedores que le situaban como el rapper más puro que ha salido por aquí en muchos años, Hoke pasa con nota el test de su primer trabajo. Es el disco de rap más esperado en los últimos años en España, el día de su salida fue quinto Trending Topic a nivel nacional, lo cual me parece una locura porque no está en una major, es su debut, sólo había lanzado 7 temas antes de esto y es algo de puro nicho rap que siempre va a tener menos publico que el trap o la música urbana. Creo que es la primera vez que ocurre algo así y es muy positivo para el género, más aún teniendo en cuenta que son dos tíos con talento, respetan lo que están haciendo y tienen buen gusto.

El álbum es de temática callejera, habla de huir de la policía, de la vida en el barrio, pintar graffiti, fumar weed, el gusto por la ropa y el hustle, pero lo interesante es que lo cifra utilizando slang y códigos propios creando un imaginario único, que es una de las cosas que nos gusta del rap, tiene un mundo propio que engancha y es creativo. Me gusta como está tratada la presencia de la policía a lo largo de las 11 tracks, se siente como una figura opresiva, como un enemigo de una distopía sci-fi que lo hace estar siempre alerta, pero te lo cuenta muy tranquilo, muy pánfilo y despreocupado a la vez que se muestra siempre alerta. Su estilo me recuerda en cierta manera al de otros rappers como Erik Urano o Chirie Vegas en cuanto a que tiran mucho de sus códigos.

Louis Amoeba logra hacer que suene a rap de 2022 pero sobre todo suena a él, afianzando el signature sound que mostró en ‘L2POE’, su anterior LP con Ébano, un album con el que conecta tanto a nivel de atmósfera como explícitamente, dejando links y pistas, dando a entender que está construyendo un universo sonoro propio.

Es un sonido frío, gris, de atmósfera pesimista, bien trabajado, en el que destacan sus cajas, con atención al detalle, como esa interpolación del hit ‘Gasolina’ que suena en TT que me flipa; la guitarra melancólica de Automático, la más personal del disco o el comienzo épico de Ojo De Halcón. Corto de duración pero denso y de cierta profundidad. No es una obra maestra ni un disco perfecto pero como debut es la hostia y por su impacto podríamos estar hablando ya de un classic album.

3. Blanco Palamera - INTIMIDADE

Su debut fue prometedor y esta segunda entrega me parece más redonda y mejorada en todos sus aspectos, abandonan el R&B electrónico de neblina para ver más luz y tonalidades pop que beben de influencias negras. Una joya de álbum.

4. CKGK - CKGK

Uno de los albums de rap más originales y distintivos que han salido en los últimos años por S-Pain. Produs de incursión abstracta, sobrado de personalidad y buen gusto, 7N7C vibes, con raps que fluyen libres entre el tejido quimérico. Hostiazo a lo trendy.

5. Rosalía - Motomami

Ni vanguardia ni next level shit, es más mixtape que album, deslabazado, caótico y sin cuerpo pero con buenos tracks que entran muy bien. Ligerito y muy bien trabajado, libre y sin ataduras. Con la turra y las entrevistas que hizo con Pharrell y la única canción en la que intervienen The Neptunes ( junto a otros 6-7 productores más) es Hentai , hemos sido engañados, humo, todo marketing shiiiieeetttt. Está lejos de ser una obra maestra pero me ha gustado bastante.

6. SD Kong & Allan Parrish - S.O.D.A 

Muy atmosférico, vibes íntimos que invitan a escucharlo en la nocturnidad. Muy logrado sónicamente, gran ejercicio de diggin', los deliveries jaspeados y smooth hacen un match perfecto con los elegantes aromas propuestos, classy.

7. Lil Supa - YEYO

Se utiliza mucho el "parece una peli" cuando se habla de un álbum pero casi siempre es de boquilla. Aquí hay un aire cinemático tremendo y lo puedes sentir, callejero, crudo y con artillería de primera. Quiero más de este Marc Ginale. Venezuela stand up. 

8. Rap Gotti & Ontherun - The Lamb & The Tiger

Uno de los ejercicios de rap más lúcidos del año en S-Pain, ritmos sobrios, de escucha exigente, de los que demandan prestar atención al detalle, densos, repletos de códigos. A la gente le ha gustado más ‘Raised By The Wolves’ y me parece igual de bueno pero siento predilección por algunos temas de aquí como Enfant Terrible. La mandanga que nos gusta.

9. Pablic S - Flores 

Me gusta la paz desde la que escupe y el mapa sonoro del que se rodea va en la misma línea, es minimal y eso resalta aún más sus raps sabios y elegantes, de estilo calmado y reflexivo. Todo un descubrimiento, damn good. Priteo está enfermo en su cacho.

10. Juicy Bae - PTSD

La producción de PMP me parece logradísima y que escapa a los lugares comunes del trap ( GPS Interlude por ejemplo ), sónicamente es next level, el tratamiento de las voces es increíble.

Two different Daytona Beach rappers want to hang out with me when I’m back in Daytona. I feel happy

Game Six

Its that time again. 

In the 2018 song ‘If You Know You Know’ that opened the Pusha T album ‘Daytona’, the New York rapper sung the lyrics ‘When we all clickin’ like Golden State’. Words that were true at the time as the Golden State Warriors, or at least this current iteration of the Oakland based team, had won two of the previous three NBA Championships at that time. Their third would come shortly after the release of ‘Daytona’ as the Warriors swept their Eastern Conference rivals the Cleveland Cavaliers to clinch their third championship in 2018. Since For the period of 2015 through to 2018 it was clear that the Golden State Warriors were the team to beat. And yes, they were beaten in 2016 by Cleveland but three out of four victories again Lebron James is no small feat and I suppose he did deserve one title in Cleveland. Although in 2019, the Warriors did reach the NBA finals they lost the championship to the Toronto Raptors and then an injury to Steph Curry, more on him later, sent the team into a bit of a dive. That is, until 2022 when out of the cold came the three time champions (again, three times champions under this iteration with Steve Kerr) to clinch their fourth title against the Boston Celtics. It had been said before the Golden State Warriors were a dynasty and many said that that dynasty was over, particularly with Kevin Durant leaving to the what we now know was the doomed Brooklyn Nets project. But as it turns out, the Warriors dynasty isn’t done yet and as Pusha T said, the team is clickin’ like, well, Golden State. 

The relationship that I have with the Golden State Warriors is one of my more special ones that I have with my teams. Okay, granted, they all are special and for different reasons but without Golden State there perhaps wouldn’t be any other American sports teams that I follow. The Warriors were the entry way for me into American sports as when I found out I was going to go to California in 2015, I decided to find a team to support and the one that came to the surface was Golden State. I had at that time liked basketball as a sport for quite some time but I wasn’t really aware of the NBA. Sure I knew a few players but only tangentially. I was not aware of the true legacy of the league, the heroes within it and the stories that have been written both on and off the court. I picked Golden State Warriors to be my team because they were the closest NBA team to San Francisco which was my first stop on the trip and at the time I was blissfully unaware that they were on their way to creating a dynasty. Their success fell into my lap and I have sometimes wondered if I can truly celebrate it as I came to the team, whilst organically, at a time when they were thriving. I didn’t necessarily feel like I had earned that success. Well, I shouldn’t have worried as what followed was a few years of torment with Steph’s and Klay’s injuries and the team not getting to where they needed to be. I wanted to earn the victories, to feel the highs after the lows and it seems that I got my wish. Seeing the Golden State Warriors thrive now feels all the more special for me as silly as that may sound. I think I needed to stick with the team through the hard times to forge this bond and oh boy, is it there now. 

Because I went to both San Francisco and Los Angeles on that 2015 trip to the states, I do also have a soft spot for the Lakers. I do, I can’t help it. I know as a Golden State fan I shouldn’t but I do like to see the guys in purple and gold do well. That is, except when it is against Golden State as it currently is as in the Western Conference semi finals the Los Angeles Lakers with that perennial Warriors foe LeBron have a two to one lead over the Warriors. The thing is though, we’ve been here before. Hell, in the previous round we were down by two to the Sacramento Kings in that series. Down by two to the Sacramento Kings. The Kings. We can turn this around and I really believe win the NBA Championship yet again. Sure, that may be wishful thinking but with Steph Curry I think anything is possible. It is perhaps a crime that he has had to exist in the same era as LeBron James and Kevin Durant as if he was in isolation perhaps his name would be even higher up the list of the greatest basketball players of all time. For me, is he top, look. Sure, Micheal Jordan was the greatest of all time but there is something about Curry. This power that he  has and that when the Warriors are down, you don’t need to worry as you know he isn’t. He is calm, collected and capable of shooting shots that have no right to go in, but somehow always do. It is that sort of belief that I am bringing to this series against the Lakers and, who knows, maybe beyond. There is something truly special about this Warriors team and as Pusha T said, if you know, you know.
