Rei had such great expression and personality, I hope we can see that side of him again one day. It would be such a great scene, Conan or Akai seeing "Amuro" without his usual cool demeanor, being silly, sad, shy, etc. and realizing that he was able to catch a glimpse of his true self that had been hidden away by grief and dedication to his job.

松田＆萩原のパチパチ爆弾ケーキ/Matsuda ＆Hagiwara’s Crackling Bomb Cake (translation unofficial)

was a dessert available at Detective Conan Cafe from April 1st to June 26th 2022, depending on the location, for 1760 yen including tax. Themed after the deaths of the characters, the bomb shaped cake capitalized on the popularity of the (particularly) cop-centric spin off and also promoted the franchise’s 25th mainline movie.

The chocolate cake—served on a slab—included icing “wires” and a variety of textures, with what seems to have been popping candy and blood-red dried raspberries. It also included faux-sakura representing the transience of the characters' lives, if not Hagiwara’s nationalism.

While Matsuda & Hagiwara’s Crackling Bomb Cake was the only dish of its kind on the BLOOM OF POLICE menu, the POLICE’S CAFETERIA menu represented the pair with a conceptually similar entrée, a bakudandon (literally “bomb-bowl”). As both menus ran concurrently, a dedicated customer could have a morbidly explosive two course meal.

Analysis: Why Date Misunderstand His Father For So Long

I think the plot of Date chapter is kinda awkward if you're not carefully read and understand it.

The problem of Matsuda, Hagiwara, and Hiro stayed until Police Academy because well... Their problem really impact their whole world view & family.

But Date's problem....

If we just see it on surface, it seems like a small problem, yeah? Just a misunderstanding, you can just talk! .... Something like that, probably. Even I thought so at first when reading it online

But then I put myself on Date Hanchou's young self. And it suddenly make sense.

A young boy, who horrifiedly saw his father who he really respect, bloodied and severely beaten, BECAUSE of his own misspoken words.

He may have some small resentment why his father didn't stand up to the robber, but he didn't talk about it even years later! Why?

Because he also feel some guilt.

If he didn't speak, althought his father wouldn't fight the robber, at least the old man won't be injured for a year and need to leave the police job because of that injuries.

How scary it was to see your father lay on hospital bed for a year?

He's ashamed of his father's seemingly cowardly act. And he's ashamed of himself.

If he only felt ashamed of his father, considering child Date's personality who even dared to shout to the robber, he probably would shout at his father too. His young self was kinda reckless.

But Date couldn't do that. He couldn't confront his father, because his father laid on hospital bed, and probably spent some days or weeks in coma because of his head injuries.

When Date's father healthy enough, the best time to solve the misunderstanding had passed.

It's not just because Date didn't want to talk to his father about that incident. He also didn't dare to face his father to talk about that incident.

Date's father probably clearly aware his action seems cowardly to his son, but he didn't explain to him, why?

Maybe because he thought the sight to be too traumatic for his young son. If his son didn't bring it first, then as father, he wouldn't dig the old wound too.

Because no matter the intention, his son didn't know. The betrayed and horrified feeling of Date was all real.

Maybe if he didn't end up injured so bad he need to be hospitalized for a year, he would probably explain it to young Date as a lesson in lighhearted manner, like "Police need to be aware, calm, blablabla"

But he couldn't take it easy after all. Because the result was one of the worst.

His son. His son saw him being beaten up so bad. Bloodied. Unconscious. Forced to permanently quit the police job because of that injuries.

Is he afraid his son would blame himself if he know the truth? He prefer his son to blame him, rather than swallowing in self-blame?

To explain or not, which one has better result? No one knows for sure

And so, the misunderstanding stays.
