HORSHAM, Pa. - A Montgomery County family has been left in shambles after officials say an 11-year-old boy was killed by his own mother, who then tried to drive her car into the ocean at the Jersey Shore.

Police were called to a house 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township Tuesday when a man said he discovered his son dead in the master bedroom.

The boy's dad told police the 11-year-old had slept in bed with his mom the night prior, but the door was locked the next morning, and his wife's car was missing.

Officials say an investigation revealed that the boy's mom, identified as 50-year-old Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead, killed her son as he slept in her bed.

She then fled to Cape May and drove into the ocean until her car was inoperable. After walking to Wildwood Crest, she was taken into custody.

While inside the family home in Montgomery County, officials in Cape May alerted Horsham Police that they found Dirienzo-Whitehead's SUV partially submerged in the ocean at The Cove, just off Beach Avenue.

Dirienzo-Whitehead is a realtor in Horsham and owns a property in Wildwood Crest, according to officials.

A belt was found on the floor of the partially submerged vehicle during a search, the district attorney's office says.

The boy's death was determined to be ligature strangulation by homicide, according to an autopsy.

Documents say she told police her son had been upset and crying on and off all day about their financial difficulties. She did not want him to grow up with these struggles, so she strangled him with her husband's belt as he slept.

Horsham Police Chief, Scott Fida, said, "Our community is hurting right now. We're a relatively small, tight-knit community. Our prayers go out to the family, the GA community where this child went to school and as a community, we're going to help each other get through this."

His school, Germantown Academy, issued a statement Wednesday vowing to "honor him as he so truly deserves."

"[He] was an extraordinary child with a smile as bright as the sun… the embodiment of love, promise, and goodness, and we will never, ever forget him."

DiRienzo-Whitehead is being held in Cape May County as she awaits extradition to Montgomery County for murder charges.

A 34-year-old man was seriously injured in a stabbing in the west end of St. John’s.

The assault took place between Bay Bulls Road and Topsail Road.

Police are urging anyone with information or video footage of the area during the specified time to come forward.

2. A man from Bell Island is facing charges after being caught on 12 July with drugs in a car which was pulled over for speeding.  He was driving while his licence was suspended and showing signs of driving impaired.

3. Near miss at Braya refinery.  A Stop-work order has not been issued by the department. 

Occupational Health and Safety is investigating a "near-miss" incident at the Braya refinery in Come By Chance, involving drilling on a repurposed line that had previously been in nitrogen service.

The line was not in service or under pressure at the time of the incident, and internal analysis was conducted before sharing the findings with OHS and employees.

This incident comes almost a year after a fatal explosion at the refinery, which resulted in a criminal negligence investigation by the RCMP.

4.  Clean-up underway after an unexpected tornado in Half Moon Bay.

5. Electrically-serviced campsites in loops A and B of Newman Sound Campground in Terra Nova Park are currently without power.

OC says that the Canadian government, specifically the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), is not effectively incorporating climate change data and research into fisheries management decisions, which is exacerbating the depletion of fish stocks.

7. Candidate Tony Wakeham is releasing his healthcare plan for connecting residents with a primary provider for healthcare.

Tony Wakeham's health care plan focuses on improving access to timely care in Newfoundland and Labrador by connecting every resident with a primary health care provider and establishing family health care teams.

The plan prioritizes job offers to health care professionals at the beginning of their training to address the shortage of healthcare providers in the province.

Wakeham emphasizes the urgency of addressing the lack of access to health care and believes that waiting for the long-term vision of the Health Accord is not feasible for the province.

8. Musgrave Harbour failed to respond to two access to information requests, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner has found [per VOCM].

9. It is peak tourism for Newfoundland and Labrador right now. Business has picked up but the sector still faces challenges, including air access [per VOCM].

Kyle and Jackie O Show star Brooklyn Ross has proposed to his partner Damien, and the pair plan to marry in Las Vegas at the wedding chapel where Britney Spears married her first husband for 55 hours.

Brooklyn Ross is the longtime newsreader on Australia’s tackiest radio show. Brooklyn shared on Friday that he’d popped the question to his boyfriend Damien Dirienzo.

“After five years together with my boyfriend Damien… I popped the question to him and he said yes,” Brooklyn told Kyle and Jackie.

“At first I was going to bring him in here and do it on air. But then Jackie was like, ‘Are you sure you want to do it in here? Is that really romantic?’

“I ended up just making dinner at home. I made him the dinner that I first cooked him when he first came over to my house. A salmon fennel creation.

“I had a little spread and red roses and candles. It was just such a perfect night.

“Then I took him out onto our balcony. I was going in my head, ‘What do I say?’ but when it happened I just said, ‘Will you marry me?'”

Brooklyn and Damian also shared footage and photos of the couple’s proposal to Instagram.

On the radio, Kyle and Jackie pressed Brooklyn for details on his and Damien’s wedding plans, and he said they planned to do it in Las Vegas.

“We’re all going to be in Vegas in a week’s time, so I thought, let’s do a Vegas wedding,” he said.

Brooklyn explained he’s considering hiring an Elvis impersonator for the ceremony, and says he wants to marry at A Little White Wedding Chapel where Britney Spears eloped in 2004 with first husband Jason Alexander before divorcing 55 hours later.

Brooklyn Ross has worked at KIIS FM for a decade. He and his partner Damien started dating in 2019.

Officials in Cambridge, MA, which is known for its progressive politics, have removed the Massachusetts state flag from city hall. The flag features an image of the Native American leader Massasoit (aka Ousamequin) with the arm of Myles Standish holding a sword at the top.

Cambridge removes ‘offensive’ Massachusetts flag from City Hall as calls grow to replace it

As the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s landing approaches next year, there is a growing push to change the Massachusetts state flag because of its depiction of a Native American.

At least 30 municipalities have endorsed a state bill to remove and replace the state’s flag and motto. Cambridge, the fifth largest city in the state, went even further — earlier this month city council members labeled it “offensive” and approved a proposal to remove the state flag from council chambers.

“I found out that there is a lot of imagery on the state flag that I didn’t actually know existed,” said Massachusetts State Rep. Nika Elugardo, who is co-sponsoring the state resolution to replace the flag.

The flag features a Native American holding a bow and arrow. Just overhead is a disembodied arm with a sword. Surrounding the seal is the phrase “Ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem,” which roughly translates from Latin to, “By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty.”…

Most objections aren’t with Ousamequin, but the arm and sword overhead. They are said to belong to Myles Standish, an English military officer who helped establish and secure the Plymouth colony.

The local news program “Greater Boston” did a recent report on this which you can watch below. You’ll be astounded to learn that they somehow managed to tie this effort to the Trump presidency.......
