I eagerly anticipated this book after reading the first book a week ago, "What Hunts Inside the Shadows" by Harper L. Woods was a fun read, but missed the mark just a bit for me.

This book feels like a regression from the first book in the series in my opinion. The mate bond, once a crutch, now dominates the plot, overshadowing a lot of the potential development of these characters. I love Caelum's passion for Estrella, but disliked how Estrella's love seemed so dim and boring. I also found the fact that Estrella couldn't grow past her victim mentality. She felt so weak, even as her powers grew.

Beyond the abundance of explicit content within the woods, I felt like this story did not progress.

In essence, "What Hunts Inside the Shadows" is a disappointing sequel, lacking depth and substance. It fails to deliver unfortunately.

Valiant by Holly Black ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⠀⠀ This was a complete disappointment, I couldn’t connect with any of the characters, Some of the plot seemed unnecessary and to top it all off there was the abuse and ultimate death of a kitten that didn’t seem like it helped further the plot or arc of any characters. Jan 29th, 2020|| 🌿bookish thoughts on The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern🌿 . this truly didn't work for me. yes, Morgenstern can write, but that's about it.... this book is gorgeous on the outside but is lacking in the inside and a beautiful writing can't really disguise how completely wanting the story is. . it’s not only that I never connected with any of the characters and didn't give a shit about them, it's that there was zero character/plot development. another aspect that also made my reading experience even more tedious was the interwoven fables/stories alongside the main storyline.... it may work for some readers but in my case it just kept pulling me out of the narrative. . i didn’t hate the book and there wasn’t anything in particular that made me dislike it (hence my giving it 2 stars instead of 1), it's just that i was completely indifferent to it.
