Browsing HyperCard stacks on our RP2350-based Fruit Jam 🍏📂

With a little more tweaking, we've got a nice big 12MB disk image loading into our Pico-Mac port https://github.com/jepler/pico-mac/tree/rp2350-fruitjam to the Fruit Jam https://www.adafruit.com/product/6200 — that 16MB of internal flash is coming in super useful now!

That means not only can we run System 6 but also install some nice software like HyperCard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperCard !

As kids, we loved playing and making HyperCard stacks, so it's neat to see that we can still navigate the classics on an RP2350. Many stacks have music or sound effects, so we'll revisit these once we get audio playback working.

avfs or how to work with compressed usb, cd and hdd images

As I needed to copy a couple of files from the Ubuntu MATE raspberry pi image to my raspberry OS 64bit installation and the steps are a bit obscure I decided to make a quick post about it. 

step 1 install avfs

user@linux:~$ sudo apt-get install avfs

step 2 download the image file

user@linux:~$ wget https://releases.ubuntu-mate.org/groovy/arm64/ubuntu-mate-20.10-desktop-arm64+raspi.img.xz

step 3 configure avfs fuse

user@linux:~$ sudo -s root@linux:~# mkdir ~/.avfs root@linux:~# mountavfs Mounting AVFS on /root/.avfs...

step 4 use fdisk and avfs to look in the partion table of the image file without uncompressing it 

Note: by adding a # after the filename we tell avfs that the file is an archive and we want to access its content. 

avfs determens the compression type by the file extenzion so make sure that's correct (.gz,.7z,.xv, .zip, .rar)

IPS TFT displays, and 3.5" floppy drives are like surf-n-turf: at no point did a lobster or cow ever meet each other before being plated at a restaurant, yet they are a tasty combination. We are testing a 4" 720x720 square display with a capacitive touch overlay using our Espressif ESP32-S3 TFT experimenter board. At this resolution, we're definitely pushing the capabilities of our lil Tensilica chip, but it's still an excellent way for us to verify the displays are good before we maybe get them set up on the ICN6211 DSI-to-RGB converter
