Hello Dolly, as we all know, takes place in 1890.

That's a 9 year difference, but that doesn't matter, Cheryl.

What I am thinking, is that Dolly helped Medda write songs for the bowery beauties (and maybe Medda herself.)

Here's my (not so good) thinking:

In Hello Dolly, one of the last songs is Dolly telling Horace goodbye. (So Long, Dearie if you want the exact song.)

In that song, there are a few lines that stick out to me:

"Don't you come knockin' at my door!

'Cause I'll be all dolled up and singin' that song

That says, "You dog, I told you so"

You know where else we hear something similar to that??

Newsies is set 9 years in the future.

Hello Dolly also takes place in New York. (Or so I think.)

Maybe they bump into eachother one day and Medda clearly needs help. Just leave everything to Dolly! (I had to. It was the perfect time.)

And that's when she remembers what she told Horace all those years ago, and turned that into a song. (Because it was too good of a song to not.)

(You know when Dolly randomly whips out a oddly specific card and gives it to Cornelius? I'm imagining that but the card says "lyric composer" or whatever.)
